Accommodation is offered in self-catering Chalets and Safari Tents. Each chalet sleeps up to 4 guests, is air-conditioned, and equipped with a fridge-freezer, mini-stove and oven, cutlery and crockery, linen and bath towels. Each chalet also a private outdoor shower, a bathroom with either a Victorian or a spa bath, a separate toilet, a private boma with braai facilities, use of a central boma with DStv, fire pit and additional cooking facilities and use of a communal splash pool.
Each Safari Tent sleeps up to 7 guests and is equipped with fans, a fridge-freezer, cutlery and crockery, linen and bath towels. Each tent has its own private bathroom facilities with an outdoor shower and toilet, a private boma for cooking with a 2-plate gas cooker and braai facilities, use of a central boma with DStv, viewing deck, fire pit and additional cooking facilities, as well as use of a communal splash pool.
The Pongolapoort Jozini Dam is home to hippos and crocodiles, and elephant, buffalo and various other wildlife can be spotted on the shores. The dam covers approximately 16,000-hectares, with a river stretch of approximately 5 km. The Pongolapoort Dam is the only dam in South Africa which is home to the fighting tiger fish, and Nkonkoni supports the catch-and-release method. Fishing takes place from boats, as well as from the shore. We have our own launch site.
Tigerfish can be caught all year round although fishing is best during the warmer months. The annual Tiger Fish Bonanza is held in September on the Pongolapoort Dam and attracts anglers from all over the country.
This area is also a bird watchers haven boasting over 400 species of birds, including less common species like the Heuglins robin, pink-backed pelican and osprey.

48 guests' feedbackExcellent, lively place, well organised.
We stayed in a 4 sleeper chalet overlooking the Jozini Dam about 1 km away. The chalet is clean, well maintained and very comfortable. We enjoyed the outside shower with a view of the surrounding bushveld. Birdlife is plentiful in the camp and it was a pleasure to watch the tame Nyalas passing through the camp in the evening. Keep an eye out for the 2 elephant bulls that roam in the nature reserve in which the camp is situated.
Our third time staying at Nkonkoni. We will be back! Peaceful, safe, comfortable.
We love this place as a stopover on our way to St. Lucia. I have caught tiger fish every time I've stayed here. You often see crocodile, hippo, fish eagle, warthog, waterbuck, impala etc.
Had a great stay, an excellent overnight stay.
Had a great experience at Nkonkoni Fishing Camp as a stopover en route to our final destination. The tent was well equipped and suited our requirements perfectly. Cooling off in the pool was delightful as it was very hot (46°C) at the time. Definitely recommended. Kids (16, 16 & 14) loved it.
Leigh called us and made sure our stay was excellent.
It was truly a wonderful experience. Will definitely check in longer next time. We really enjoyed the scenery. It's the perfect place for a getaway and if you want to see some wildlife. Very good braai and kitchen facilities. Bathrooms were very neat and clean.
Staff were exceptionally accommodating!
Very good value for money. Nice quiet, beautiful nature, warthogs, nyalas every morning and afternoon on our lawn.
This was a second visit because it's such a beautiful and quiet place. Lovely chalet (better than photos!), well-equipped with everything we need for a relaxing self-catering retreat. The animals graze in front of the chalets and the pool area is a great place to chill out. Highly recommend Nkonkoni.
I really appreciated that Lee called me ahead of time to see if I would need firewood and ice. It's the little things that make a big difference.
Attractive camp with visiting animals. It is a great place to relax and find peace. The boma is an added bonus, as is the outside shower. It would have been nice to have a tea tray supplied. I was surprised to pay for our first bundle of wood.
Great destination for a family holiday, loads to do for everyone. We saw lots of game and caught plenty fish of all species. We will be there soon.
Everything was clean and tidy. Chalets are serviced daily, including the braai area. Most of the often forgotten fishing gear is also sold there.
Was a peaceful environment and got to see some animals close up.
Safe place to stay overnight on the way to Mozambique.
Amazing experience and service from Lee and Manuel.
Ideal place for Tigerfish Angler.
The rooms are comfortable and clean. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to do an overnight stop or just stay and fish for a few days.
Everything is neat and clean and everything you need is there. The people are very friendly and professional. I will use the place regularly if I go that direction again. Thank you very much for an exceptional overnight stay. Slept very well and enjoyed the outdoor shower, nice hot water. Beautiful and very quiet.
Lee and Manuel were extremely friendly and hospitable. The unit was very nicely equipped, everything was neat and clean. We had the most beautiful view of the forest where we could sit on the veranda and watch birds and the braai area with its boma was also a plus. We also had a nice swim to cool off.
Clean an cater for all needs. Perfect over night stay. Owners contacted us before hand to establish time of arrival. Made us feel welcomed.
Silence in nature.
Although we were only two people, it is still value for money. If the tent is fully booked, it is cheap. Nice private, comfortable braai place with enough utensils.
Very friendly staff at this beautiful location. Very clean and cosy with a different outdoor shower. Great Tiger Fishing spot. Lots of wild animals and birds in the area. We really enjoyed it and will defiantly visit again.
This was our second return after 6 months and we are planning again for next year April. Of course, that says it all! The resort is a beautiful jewel in the nature reserve. Very peaceful and close to nature. Beautifully clean, safe and privately laid out. The staff are extremely competent, friendly and helpful. We really have no complaints. Direct access to Lake Jozini which is a big plus. Thank you very much!
Nkonkoni Fishing Camp is a fantastic, extremely well-equipped facility where one can relax and completely disconnect from the daily dramas. It is very safe, clean and tidy. The service delivery is up to standard. The chalets are extremely neat and nicely placed over the site without people bothering each other. Comfortable beds and shower under the starry sky was a highlight. Access to Lake Jozine is easy and safe. The management is extremely friendly and really cares about their guests' well-being. Thank you so much Manual for all your help and the extra mile you went to fix my boat's propeller. Much appreciated. Thank you very much.
Beautiful place, very neat and well furnished in the Jozini Nature Reserve. Will definitely visit there again.
First visit, but will visit again if we are in that area.
Nice stay here on the way to Mozambique. Would still like to explore the reserve.
We stayed there on the way to Mozambique! It was perfect, clean, beautiful nature and we really enjoyed the pool.
Good value for money.
Nice for someone who loves nature, but we would have loved to watch the T20 cricket but could not get the TV to work. Fishing from the shore was also not possible.
The experience at Nkonkoni was fantastic. Lee and Manuel go out of their way to make you feel at home, are very hospitable and friendly. Access to the camp is only 500 m from the main road. The accommodation was clean and tidy and you literally don't have to take anything with you. The kitchen is equipped with everything. Rooms and bedding clean and tidy. I will definitely go to Nkonkoni again. Thank you, Lee and Manuel, for the hospitality.
Many thanks Lee for the help with the fishing trip. Sarel enjoyed it immensely. The tent camp is definitely a must holiday especially for family reunions. We will definitely see you again.
Loved the camp. Great friendly hosts. Plenty of wildlife, including Rhinos. Beautiful setting. Will be back.
Very nice accommodation and people are wonderful. Highly recommended.
But just prefer a better boat launching pad.
It provides peace of mind while you enjoy nature, watching animals and hearing the birds singing.
See the stars.
We had a great time. It was very quiet as we were the only residents in the camp. The camp is very neat and the housing unit no. 2 was neat.
Everything was perfect, we just missed elephants, that was also our reason to book there, but there was nothing. But other things made up for it. Clean, quiet and so peaceful. Thank you very much.
Very nice, well maintained residential units.
See the ratings.
A perfect escape from our daily madness to unwind and recharge your battery. However please get rid of that mouse, it kept on scratching things for the whole night.
Very quiet and nice place. Will definitely plan a visit to them again.
