The room smelt like someone had been smoking in it before us, the room is a lot smaller than it looks in the pics. The kitchen setup and cutlery and crockery are something I'd expect to find in an Airbnb. Comfy bed and great view. Long, steep staircase to reach the room.

It is a very pleasant place to rest. The unit is only very basic equipped. No easy chairs. Kitchen utensils very basic and floor mats very old and slippery. For the price they can upgrade unit. Only one fan in the bedroom. But staff were very friendly and made up for the inconvenience of unit.

Nice place to stay, location is perfect near shops and beaches. Kicked off a set with check in at two o'clock, people weren't there to check us in and when they came to check us in half an hour later the place wasn't even clean. The floors were dirty, dirty dishes were left around, beds were unmade and the bathroom was dirty. We walked again and contacted the owner with the inconvenience of a place that was not right and the late check-in, the problem was solved otherwise we had a very nice stay.
The 3rd room was too far from the others we've booked, that was a surprise.
Die woonstelletjie is heel gemaklik en gebruikersvriendelik. Ongelukkig was die plek vuil. Ons moes alles was voor ons dit kon gebruik, selfs die buitebraai se as en vuil rooster was nog daar. Het dit aangemeld, maar kon eers die volgende dag uitsorteer word. Was ook belowe dat die skoonmaker die volgende dag so inkom vir basiese skoonmaak (geen skottelgoed), maar dit het nie gebeur nie. Dit was redelik lekker, en as dit skoon is sal ek dit aanbeveel. Andersins nie.
The smell hits you when you enter. Had to buy incense sticks and burn for the smell. The curtains are moldy, the bathroom roof is moldy, the shower doesn't work, the bath water couldn't drain. Had to use plunger repeatedly. Stumps on the porch. Sofa bed very dirty and uncomfortable. Kitchen utensils look so dirty or have mold on them. Inconvenient route to get to the apartment. Was apartment A1. Was not at all how I wanted to end my last weekend of my vacation.
No cleanliness. Sheets full of marks. No towels. Dog that bites. TV that won't turn off. Geyser was down.

We will definitely go again. But will just choose a bigger unit next time.
Most of it, is the good ocean view, very cosy, and clean, walking distance to beach with 2 tidal pools. I and my wife spend very good time there and definitely will visit this establishment again. People who care for the place are utmost friendly.
Staff is very friendly. Best of all, my Yorkie child could go along. You really feel like part of the family within 2 days at Ocean Gorge and I would recommend them any day.
Although Leon and his team rates their accommodation as a 2 star, I would give them a 5 star in hospitality. We have taken our 3 small dogs along and with the space we might have missed inside on some flats, we have enjoyed this green forest garden thoroughly outside. The steps in the front down to the rocks and beach were fantastic convenient and we would recommend this stay to someone that has no fuss about 5 star an luxury. Hats of to Leon, Nicole and their cleaning staff, and their lovely four pawed friend.

Stairs to the flat were unexpected and many. Area should probably be closed, so that the pet you bring along could move around more freely.
Peaceful time, clean place. Good price, had no problem with collecting and returning the keys. Could come and go privately as we wanted. Very pretty view and nice places to stroll. Close to a nice beach. Literally didn't have any problems. Staying at Ocean Gorge made our holiday so much easier.
Can improve on customer service and cleanliness of housing units. Units really need renovation. Linen could also not be washed because the washing machine was broken.
Unit cleaning is done late in the morning. No services on holidays (other places' cleaning services work in shifts, so there is always someone there).

Fantastic location, we chilled on the balcony and saw dolphins in the breakers. The owners feed different bird species in their garden and it was wonderful to behold. Good value for money, that was the main concern. The unit had everything we needed and I will definitely be back.

Leon and Nichole are so hospitable and we felt so at home! My 11 year old son and I were there and he enjoyed it so much. We had a great stay, felt safe and there was only kindness from everyone. It's close to everything, by the beach, close to shops and 2 restaurants. Could walk to the beach whenever we wanted and go fishing on the rocks. We are definitely coming back to Ocean Gorge!
We had a great time. The garden apartment is a bit cramped for four adults. But it was still worth it.
Beautiful view. Quiet and yet enough space for children to play. Maybe they can pay attention to the cockroaches. Also dust the windowsills and kitchen, old sand and cobwebs were everywhere in the kitchen and it was alive with cockroaches. We didn't cook there, I would be too irritated with that. I bought poison and sprayed it - maybe it's better now? There was only a fan in the room. It was on a timer, incredibly hot!
A very disappointing experience. Family booked at two other local B&Bs for the same weekend, there was no comparison in terms of quality and value for money. I cannot recommend neither the accommodation nor the manageress any less.

I am in a wheelchair and after a misunderstanding I got a wrong apartment. LekkeSlaap was contacted and the problem resolved. We were then transferred to a wheelchair friendly apartment without any problem. The people did everything in their power to help us. Pebble Beach apartment has lovely sea view. Bathroom needs some renovation, but meets basic needs. Very safe and close to beach.

We really enjoyed our stay. It's so peaceful there. Terribly beautiful view and friendly people. It's only dangerous for little ones, because there is no arrangement around the yard that prevents them from going near the abyss. Otherwise everything is great.
Although price was good, it was in comparison with another establishment we stayed at, quite terrible. Nothing was checked before we came. The first thing the owner did was offer us a room that is twice as expensive, apparently better for my mom, but it was obvious they were aware there is an issue and tried to get more money instead of offer the flat at the same rate. The bathroom door came off its hinges, the stove and oven was not working, the cutlery was only for three people yet the flat is for 4 people. I was truly disappointed.
We stayed in the honeymoon suite. It was very neat, open and cosy and very private. We did enjoy the little pathways to the rocks and the private beach when low tide and spent many hours walking on the rocks, looking at the marine life in the pools and just enjoying the sea view. There is a large tidal pool to the left side, but the weather wasn't too great so we weren't to brave to go snorkling. Close to the attractions, Balito shopping malls and the Balito beach walk ways. Thompson bay were just around the corner with the hole in the wall. Great stay all together.
Good stay, room is not "cleaned". Traveled for business and was not at the beach at all, yet the unit's floors were full of sea sand that was not cleaned on a daily basis.
The cleaner didn't do her job. There were "take-aways" in the oven from the previous people that were left there and caused an unpleasant smell. A crab's paw on the bed. No towels which would be fine if told in advance. Toilet paper which is far too little. I had to ask for more just after the maid was there. Place is good but the basics are not done right.
We stayed in Pebble Beach Flat no 1. The location is awesome and the view perfect. Close to beach and pool in complex is definitely a bonus. The apartment was comfortable but without air conditioning it gets unbearably hot. The bathroom needs attention and is very small (okay for 1 person). The DStv was on but the remote control did not work. Couldn't turn off TV and they can put more appliances in the kitchen. For the price we had a nice stay but the place needs some attention and they don't even provide toilet paper. The manager stood by the wire at the place next door and called me - very unprofessional! Cleaning service was only there for 2 hours every day which is an inconvenient time especially if you have children. The cleaner was very thorough and although they only washed floors and some cleaning on the porch, it was okay. In any case, I would only recommend the place for a maximum of 2 people and out of season when it's not that hot.

The room was dirty. We had to go and buy cleaning products to clean the room, Handy Andy and Dettol. There was still cigarette ash on the bedside table. The floor was dirty. The toilet seat was dirty underneath. The sheet on the bed had been used by previous guests. The tiles around the bath and basin were dirty. The room didn't smell nice. If you walk down to the sea during high tide you get trapped against the rocks. You cannot go left or right, just straight back up. The photos on the web is very misleading. What you see on the photo looks good, what you get is a different story. What more can I say?
Firstly we arrived at the resort where the owner welcomed us. No secure parking or gates on premises and 6 very small parking for small vehicles. The owner and his wife did not take us to the apartment as it had very steep steps. They were busy with construction and alterations to the one apartment. Our apartment was very dangerously accessed with a long wooden object supporting the window where they were busy with the alteration. Should you not be wary you will bump into wood pole. Pictures are not near what you receive on arrival. We went up to the apartment as they just showed the way. Our experience on self catering service is that the apartment gets cleaning every morning with dishes done. Bed was made although no dishes and a condom rapper was laying by our front door. The palm trees were so large that in the evening with the wind blowing against the sliding door you could not get rest. The owner had balloons on the private area where he lived - obvious occassion or party therefore his family or friends took up most of the parking space. No comfortable bed at all - very small for 2 people and to be honest you were scratching and itching the whole time, no neatness or cleanliness. The 3rd early evening 2 guests arrived in the apartment next to us. Our front door was closed, but we heard everything that was said. The owner's wife offered them toiletries and towels when she escorted them to their apartment. None of that was offered to us. We had to seek other accommodation that same night and left the resort on good neat foot, posted the apartment keys in the post box. Nobody called us concerned or to enquire why we left. We had a very bad experience and will never return nor give this place as reference to anyone. If we could rate this establishment with zero stars we would.
Leon is a real host and made us feel very much at home. The unit is very neat and clean and very accessible. One is alone but also feels part. It was truly a pleasant experience and we will definitely do it again. I think Shaka's Rock is awesome and beautiful and offers so many different options. It had been a real getaway weekend. Bedding is not up to standard.
The location is absolutely gorgeous. The views are incredible, and you are literally on top of the ocean. Beautiful place. The accommodation was rough, though. There is no living room, just two plastic chairs next to the bunk bed, the kitchen is a mess with unmatching (and dirty) cutlery, thus we had to go out to dinner every night. We also never had a chance to use the braai area, as there are no dedicated ones, it is pretty much first come first serve. The sheets and bedding are not up to standard either.
We stayed in Pebble Beach, not in Ocean Gorge itself. It's an apartment next to Ocean Gorge that belongs to the owner. The accommodation needs renovation and a decent cleaning.
Everything inside was very old and nothing was clean. I think some places really take advantage of people going on holiday, they know that everyone is looking for accommodation and then charge any rate. This place is not value for money.
Normally the honeymoon suite is something special. This one is very small, cramped and stuffy. No place to put anything, the kitchenette very under equipped and a tiny little bar fridge. Your balcony is directly above the braai area, so you get all the smoke when guests are braaing. Leon, the owner was helpful in that he found us alternative accommodation, unfortunately there was a bad leak and water dripped through the electric light fitting and also onto the kitchen counters. There was also no servicing of the units only dustbins emptied. Could definitely benefit from a good spring clean.
It was average, I wouldn't go back.
We paid R650 per unit, which sleeps 4-5 persons. We had visitors for 3 nights from Pinetown and had to pay R950 for them. Inside the unit there is a notice for R100 per person per night and R50 for day visitors. The unit was dirty and nothing matched. The linen is old and full of stains. They are not pet friendly with no fence for the garden cottage. We had to keep our dogs inside. The owner and his employees were not very friendly. The pathway to the beach has no warning signs or proper fencing. One of our family members fell and hurt her back.

We were truly unprepared for where the unit was located!!! At high tide the waves were so loud that we had to close the sliding doors to hear the TV!! There is a lovely sea view, although it is a pity that the palisade obstructs the view, but this is for safety. The unit is clean and tidy and everything you need is there. The tidal pool is amazing for snorkeling, with great variety of fish. The owners are friendly and helpful. We will visit again anytime!!

Quiet and close to everything with safe beach and tide pool.
The view over the sea is breathtaking. You can even see the sea from the bed. The paths down to the beach are beautiful and very good exercise. Small dogs are also welcome. My Pixie enjoyed her own hole out.

We could not walk from our flat to the beach as seen on the pictures on the website, there is a place where can go through but the gate was locked and we had to walk more than 2 blocks further on the outside of the complex to reach the sea.nnOn tv there are just the basic SABC TV channels (1.2.3) and Etv ... we just think for the price they charge, there could be some more luxury. The rate we had to pay R795.00 per night, but we understand that is the rate and we as people can decide whether to book our holiday there or not.n nOtherwise the stay was fine, just too short but we could rest.n nThanks

Lovely spot, everything was in good working order (except the can opener). Bed linen was nice and clean. Would recommend that the tile floor gets a good deep clean to strip the grime away. Overall a very nice stay, thank you!

There is an open-plan lounge and kitchen area, the kitchen is equipped with a fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, stove, oven, cutlery, and crockery. The lounge has a TV with local channels and a sleeper couch. The lounge leads out onto a sea-facing wooden deck. Pets are allowed by prior arrangement only. Please note, that pets are not allowed on the beds or furniture.

Prices quoted are for specified number of guests only. Extra charges will apply for any extra guests or day visitors, who are allowed by prior arrangement only and at the sole discretion of management.
Guests are required to supply their own towels, beach towels, toiletries, dish-washing liquid, all other consumables, and plug point adapters.
A basic cleaning service is provided such as making of beds, removal of refuse, and cleaning of bathrooms only. Please note the cleaners do not work on Public Holidays.
A maximum of 2 small and well-trained, socialized dogs are allowed in all the units, except the Honeymoon Suite and Pebble Beach flat. Dogs are to be kept on leashes at all times. There are 2 Chows and a cat who live on the property, and are both accustomed to small well-behaved dogs. Dog owners are expected to clean up after their pets. Please note that pets are not to be locked up and left unattended in the units.
A refundable breakage fee of R 2000.00 per unit, for the Granny Chalet, Garden Cottage and Honeymoon Suite, and R 3000.00 for the Captains Cabin applies for student and Matric bookings. This fee is refunded after inspection of the units and if there are no breakages.

Accommodation comprises 4 apartments, 3 of which are pet-friendly on prior arrangement, allowing guests to bring along 2 small dogs. All units are fully equipped and have spectacular sea views from the patios. Please note that the units are not air-conditioned.
Free Wi-Fi Internet access and braai areas, in the garden, are available. A coastal path can be followed, at own risk, from across the front garden leads to the rocky shores, superb fishing spots, tidal pools and Morewood Cove, a defunct coastal coal mine on a private beach.
The chalets are within 5 km from major shopping centres, and situated 4 km away from the newly built Ballito Junction regional mall, pubs, clubs, gyms and several restaurants. It is approximately 24 km from King Shaka International Airport and a 30-minute drive from Durban.
