The lodge is run entirely on solar lighting, lanterns and gas with individual lights in the cabins. Each unit has its own open-style outside bathroom with running water and conventional toilets. Hot water is provided in the traditional bush method with a heated donkey boiler that supplies to all the showers. Situated close to the decked bar area is a refreshing splash pool, ideal for those hot summer days. A shaded, secretive hide overlooks a popular waterhole, providing great game viewing.
A fully equipped kitchen including refrigeration and gas stove compliments the ambiance of this secluded hideaway. There are braai areas for those who love cooking around an open fire. Although electricity is not available in the camp, there is the opportunity to charge cameras and phones during the day by means of a small generator.
Please note that the bar is not operational or stocked, it is, however available for use.

Off Beat Safaris is a delightful getaway not far outside Hoedspruit. Cabins are small, but clean and well serviced. The communal kitchen is fully equipped. The living area and recreation area are clean and tidy. Hot water is provided according to your choice in the morning or evening or both.
We enjoyed meeting Millie and staying in her lovely camp, just all too briefly. We would wish to return for a few days longer to wander into the honey badger's abode and to just listen to Africa talking in the calls of its birds and the hyena and maybe to meet the leopard. Pity about the train.
I will recommend this lodge. If you are looking for a rustic place to relax you can go there. Eveything was neat and the service was great.
What does bother is the bad corrugated iron road the last 8 km to the lodge. Then the lodge is located next to the Phalaborwa railway line which is a bit of a nuisance at night when trains pass by.
Great spot, beautiful scenery! Would recommend more lighting around the chalets though.
Except for the train that stopped next to the campsite three times a night (it disturbed my sleep), the mattresses were very comfortable and the room well equipped. The place is very off beat and it wasn't possible to put hairdryers or cellphone chargers next to the beds. There was solar energy available. I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you don't find cellphone reception important. Lovely, peaceful, typical bush accommodation.
The rooms are so open through the door, floor and the open bathroom without a door. No, you stand in the wind and you plunge into cold water because by the time the fire is made you have driven out early to go eat somewhere and just drove around. We both have runny noses because neither the room nor the bathroom are without openings. The cots we were given to sleep on were really not good. The first night we slept pretty well but the next night we lay awake at night listening to music on our phones because your back hurts so much from the beds. Can't imagine if you book the room for 2 adults they give you 2 single beds to sleep on. It really wasn't cool. My husband's back hurts so much from the bed he struggled to really get out of bed and you lie awake most of the night talking and listening to music because you slept very uncomfortably.
Very cute place to stay in the forest. No mobile reception, Quiet atmosphere, hot water tank, outdoor shower and toilet. If you want to completely switch off now, this is the ideal environment.
This was a highlight of our holiday. We were alone in the camp and we enjoyed every moment. The love that the people and accommodation facilities show towards nature is incredible to experience. If you are a forest person, this is a must!
Was very pleasant stay to get back to the basic and into the bush.
Lovely time with the family, nice and in the bush, very quiet and well equipped. Would have liked the shower to be a bit hotter! Had a nice time round the fire, everything was very clean and good service. Maybe a bigger signboard at the entrace to say it is also the lodge? We drove past, but I have to mention that it was raining very hard! Definitely recommended if you like the bush and spending time with your family!
If you like to be in the woods without the 'trappings' of walls and fences, this is the place for you. We enjoyed it immensely!
We stayed for three nights during the week and had the whole camp to ourselves which was very nice. The only problems we experienced was with the shower - the water was too hot on one day and too cold on the other two days.
Nice, quiet life and peaceful.
It's lovely in the forest.
From our arrival to our departure, I lost track of time. Truly a unique place to recharge your batteries and find peace of mind.
