Travelled with 3 family couples. Booked self-catering (1 family unit plus 1 bachelor unit). On arrival, we were shown 2 rooms inside the house plus a bachelor unit, all with a toilet and shower built into the room in full view of the beds. Horrific. The manager lied to us about the family unit being damaged. Yet we saw a student conserve in occupation. There was no self-catering to speak of. Filthy braai and a hostess that hovered in our private space all the time.
Great, friendly, warm hosts. Great, good value food. Ideal location for Cathcart, right in the middle of town. Recommended for stays in Cathcart.
Room was beautiful and clean, hosts were very helpful in organizing our barbecue. Very friendly and helpful people who run the B&B.
I doubt you will find better in Cathcart.

It was very quiet and we slept well. Breakfast was five star. Very friendly hosts. Highly recommended.
It was a wonderful experience, the old sandstone home, with the old furniture and the countryside's peace. Hospitality is some of the best, rooms are spacious and you have your own bathroom with a communal kitchenette. Very peaceful neighbourhood. We recommend the Van Zyl's B&B to anyone looking for peaceful accommodation. Breakfast is very nice and complete. It is the small extras that make it worth it.
The room (one of the outside rooms) was very basic but met all the necessary needs. The best part is that you can eat delicious home-cooked meals there in the big beautiful old house. The host and hostess are excellent and very helpful.
