When we arrived at reception we had to call a number. The person only gave our room number and said the key was in the door, no personal contact and/or service.

Double bed mattresses must please be replaced with firmer mattresses; slept very uncomfortably. Outside wooden chairs yearn for oil and care. Small soap and toilet spray would be nice. On arrival, no one was available, the owner informed by phone which room was open, and everything was left untidy, dirty cups next to the bed, wet towels in the bathroom. Another room was given, the owner had to come and see what was going on in the unit, but the unpleasantness makes you feel you don't want to stay there. Parking lot for vehicles very uneven with high slopes to pull a low vehicle up for parking. No fridge or microwave available, unit not tidy. Location is good, and rooms are spacious with a lovely fireplace for the cold. Thank you for the agents good customer service and help and assistance in this regard for the evening away which almost turned into a nightmare. You are iron.

We were a group of ladies who stayed there and felt very safe. Our van was supervised, the rooms were neat and clean, there was coffee and a kettle and for our purposes the accommodation was perfect. Had a great time there and will definitely go again.

The unit is spacious and clean but the bathroom definitely needs work to bring it up to standard.
Location was good, close to everything, but it's more of a place if you just want to sleep or drive quickly through town and you're looking for a cheap place to sleep. Rooms were not serviced, no soap in room except hand wash soap. Towels not matched as befits a guest house. Had one green, one brown and one orange towel. They were a little shy with coffee and sugar. Our room had been one of the "upmarket" rooms. Bed and bedding were good and bed slept well. The geyser was a small geyser that only allows 1 person to bathe, after which you just have to wait for the geyser to heat up again for the 2nd person. The soap dish on the wall by the bath hung on mercy. Dullstroom is a cold place, especially in winter, so one would like more carpets because those floors can be bitterly cold. Had half a bag of wood for the fireplace and 1 firelighter which means you can only use the fireplace on the first night. After that you just have to go looking for fire lighters and wood for the second night. Curtains could also be a bit better quality, room becomes very light when the sun rises, so late sleep is out. Most restaurants and pubs close early, so having a TV in the room would have been a plus. At least one would have expected a TV, especially at the price. At least we also had a half-burnt candle that only lasted 1 night with loadshedding and had to go buy candles. It is really a low cost accommodation with only the most basic accessories. Parking had been on the side road, but at least there was security who could watch the cars.

Unsure where to get the keys. There wasn't even a bar fridge to put milk or cold drinks cool. No TV for night time watching. Notice says to put towels on floor for replacing when dirty, but never got replaced. Nothing in room to help to clean up and no one to clean. Shower not working properly. The hot water does not close, must push in tap to close, but there were no instructions for this.
Totally different to image advertised on webpage. Cant use hot and cold water, only 1 or the other. Bathroom didn't smell fresh at all, many cobwebs too.

I would not recommend Old Transvaal. I have never been so disappointed in my life. Upon arrival we went to find the reception. Old Transvaal Inn is actually the shop's name and the so called in is The Chocolate Kitchen. An inquiry was made and we were told to just walk around the corner and call the number on one of the doors. We called the number and it was explained to us where our unit is, you can just go in, it's open. Okay, walk in, the bed is not made, dirty towels are hanging crookedly over the shower, unflushed toilet, the trash is full of chocolate papers. There are cups, sugar and coffee, but no kettle. I will not use the stay again nor recommend it.

The place is well furnished and clean enough so that you will be able to enjoy a nice place to sleep in Dullstroom. It's not set up for someone who wants to spend a lot of time at the accommodation, because there isn't actually any outside space where one can spend time quietly and privately. But very good value for money and comfortable enough for overnight accommodation.
The women who work there did not tell us that we had to turn on the outside lights ourselves if we came in at night. So we got there when it was dark and it was pitch dark with stairs etc. where one could not see anything. Maybe just draw guests' attention to the lights. Although WiFi is advertised we did not know what the password was. This is not indicated or given in the rooms. So we couldn't use it.

We really enjoyed staying at Old Transvaal Inn. Price is reasonable and is accessible for people in wheelchairs. It is the perfect overnight stop for people who tour around from early morning until night. The place is centrally located and easy to find. We slept nice and warm under the cuddly duvet and the fireplace was a bonus for sure. The bedding is of good quality. Shower is a bit too small though. Old Transvaal Inn will see us again for sure. If I can make a suggestion, a better arrangement can be made regarding the payments between the website and Old Transvaal Inn, we already paid the full amount earlier in the week, but on Saturday morning at a quarter past 6 one of the staff was at the through to collect the money. It was not a nice way for me to be woken up.
Feel free to put a plug on top of the table to be able to boil the kettle.
The facilities are really nice. However, at no point did we see the owner. Key was handed over by worker only on arrival. The bath was far too small for my husband - but at least he is 2.1 m tall. It is not a very quiet place to stay. One can hear your neighbors every time they turn on a faucet or use the toilet. However, what was the worst is that we had to lie the 2nd night and listen to the neighbors shouting at each other in their drunkenness. Decent spoons at kettle would have been appreciated too, plastic spoon broke first time we tried to take out tea bag.
Both times we stayed at the Inn, I had to ask neighbors to please be quieter. The drinking, swearing and fighting was too bad this last time. It's a shame because the Inn offers quite a bit of value for money.
Rooms are not cleaned, serviced and restocked when staying for more than one night with toilet paper, firewood etc. The cosy restaurant with fireplace and TV was a highlight during previous stays and has now sadly closed down. This was a big disappointment as it was the main reason for choosing the Old Transvaal Inn.
Unit consists of one room, was under the impression it was a 2 bedroom unit. No fridge, wifi or microwave. Unit needs attention (TLC), dual power plug was faulty and unsafe, bulbs need replacing. Unit is not value for money when compared to other accommodation in Dullstroom.
The Inn is not what we expected and we would not recommend it to friends or family.

We had a great stay at the Old Transvaal Inn. The room is very comfortable and more than enough for what we paid for it. The cars are almost in the street, but there is a security guard on duty in a house that is right next to the cars on the sidewalk. Can walk straight into room doors from the road. There was a knock on our door 2 times during the night by people walking around.
First, a mix up with payments, I paid in full and they said that I needed to pay again which I refused and showed them proof. No one was there when we arrived. We had to phone and waiting a while to get in. Bath is so small, I could not fit so I could not clean up.
No fan/air cooling or any other standard amenities, no one received us, in other words no contact person. Your vehicle is on the street, definitely not value for money, would not recommend.

Slept very well and the costs were very reasonable. At reception it was a bit confused as a first visitor I didn't know where to go was helped later in the bar area. Was not informed that kitchen closes early so I had to go elsewhere for food. Lovely, central inn. A walk to all main restaurants. Very reasonable budget accommodation. Polly Potters and chocolate shop inside the Inn's restaurant. Just take some board games to entertain kids as there is no TV. Which we liked.

Although there was no shower in the room, the bath was perfect and water blazing hot. The room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. Quality of linen and towels was good and the bed comfortable. The fireplace and wood provided were a welcome addition on the chilly evening we were left with. Friendly reception. Overall, very good value for money.
The room we stayed in had a fireplace. No television or a bar fridge, but it was the main reason we booked there: peace and relaxation. The Old Transvaal Inn is central and makes it easy to explore Dullstroom further on foot. It was a wonderful, relaxing experience. We certainly go back.

The room was nice and clean and the location was in the perfect spot for the Mpumalanga 400 Rally which is held annually in Dullstroom.
We were very relieved with the car guard who looked after our vehicles. However, it was disappointing that there was no kettle or cups in the "budget" rooms - it is not advertised anywhere so it wasn't until afterwards that I saw the difference in the photos and paying R25 for a takeaway coffee is a bit expensive. Because that and a fireplace (which you don't use in the summer) are the only difference in the respective accommodation and the difference in rates. But I will definitely use them again.

Although we were welcomed friendly and hospitable, we were slightly disappointed in the room itself. We had a room with four single beds. However, there were only extra blankets for two beds. The room has a very cold tile floor and one would expect at least foot mats for each bed. There were only glasses available to drink water, but no kettle to boil for eg. one's own coffee. There were also no coffee, tea, sugar or milk. The pressure in the bathroom cranes is poor. The tap had to be fully opened, after which the water came out after a second or two and all had splashed. The space around the sink and shower itself was not clean and tidy. None of us therefore wanted to shower. So, although I recommend Old Transvaal Inn as an overnight stay, it is with reservation. Compared to other places for which we paid more or less the same, Old Transvaal Inn's facilities fall short.
Accommodation is basic and clean.
Disappointed, the advertisement of accommodation on website beautiful, and the real one not what you expected to get.

Travelling by motorcycle we were greeted with the words, "They steal bikes here" and we were asked if we would like to hire an alarm. Not quite the welcome that we would have liked. We parked the bikes as close as we could next to our rooms and had no problems. The bathrooms were so small, as to be almost unusable by an adult.
