Very nice and lots of space.
Clean and neat, well equipped for self-catering, value for money.
It is value for money but old and run down. If you're looking for cheap, this is the place. If you want towels and at least decent linen, this is not the place for you. The place needs a makeover. No WiFi or even just toilet paper.
The roof of the front room, just in front of the bathroom door, leaks when it rains. The cleaner left a bucket there for the dripping water. Struggling with hot water in the shower. Mechanism/system needs attention. Front door has a lot of trouble opening.
Yes, we had a very nice stay. Would really recommend the stay.
Our visit to Ons Strandhuisie in Pearly Beach holiday resort was such a good experience. The cottage is well located and the whole area is safe and clean. We had a great time as a family and would definitely like to go there again but for an extra day. Thank you for your kindness and great service.
A bed in the braai room does not work because the room is very small and by the bathroom so at night the person cannot sleep if 5 other people want to visit the bathroom. The pull-out sofa in the living room is shorter than a normal bed so it is only currently available for a smaller child and a smaller child cannot sleep alone. The sofa bed has a throw over, but no fitted sheet. The accommodation is definitely not up to standard for the price, so not value for money at all. The only positive thing is that it's in the resort and it's safe to let kids ride bikes in the streets. It is very clear that the owners do not use it themselves because they will not be satisfied with the conditions themselves and clearly keep the place for the income. We approached the owners to stay later, while there was still no reservation and they were badly negotiable for one hour extra after which we had to pay pro rata extra. This is the first time I've had this experience with any booking and in my opinion very poor customer service, especially given the fact that we could only check in at 3pm and already had to check out at 10am so we lost half a day. The cleaning cost of R399 is also outrageous and is always included in a booking of the same rate. The going rate for cleaners in Pearly Beach is R250 and Ons Huisie is very small so I wonder where the money really goes? The kitchen equipment is no longer up to standard. The pots are very loose and the handles very loose so dangerous when there is hot food in them. The stove's plates are broken and the inside of the oven is dirty and weathered so not suitable for use. I don't understand the purpose of the loose gas plates on the stove and the stove could be thrown out instead, because it takes up unnecessary space. There is only one main power point under the TV with several connections. The power of the stove is also derived from it so there is a potential fire hazard. The grater is all over the wall, the plastic cutting board is dirty and smells bad and it can't be cleaned anymore so needs to be replaced. There is no bread plate and knife, so visitors use the placemats for them, which are now full of cut marks and need to be replaced. There is an old paint drum in one of the kitchen cupboards that is supposed to hold one of the broken shelves in place, again not acceptable. There is only one barbecue and it is too small to hold meat for 5 people so a bigger one is needed. The fridge still works, but has started to rust so can be replaced. There are 2 black bags and 2 toilet rolls provided for 5 people which is not sufficient for the period. There are no bath or swimming towels provided and the bed linen has already started to be fluffed up so can also be replaced. The drying rack outside the house is very rusted and painted over, but the rust keeps coming back up and will stain clothes so a new one is needed or the current one just needs to be removed.
One big negative aspect is the paper-thin mattresses, no adult person can get a good night's rest on any of this house's mattresses, it is paper thin. Otherwise very neat. Maybe they can seal the roof, in the braai room during the winter a very cold breeze gets in. Otherwise we had a very good stay.
Had a very nice time at Ons Strandhuisie. Wish we could have stayed longer. Will definitely recommend Ons Strandhuisie for a nice getaway. Very peaceful and safe.
Nice location. Cute and nice decor.
See stars.
Dining and drinking facilities could be updated and it was very dirty in the cupboards. Stove very old and dirty. Braai room was very nice.
With the intention of spoiling my wife and kids a little at short notice, this place just spoiled our weekend! The bedding and mattresses are old and weathered. The place smells like dog breath and the plastic chairs at the dining table smell of old sweat! The location and layout of the cottage is lovely, but there has been no effort put into this place for a long time. It needs a drastic revamp. At the price it is definitely not worth it. We have had a much better experience at other cottages in the resort at the same price. Just wait for the revamp before you book here!
This is our second time staying there and will definitely stay there again. The house is very neat and stays very nice. There is everything you need and is so close to the sea. The braai room is a winner. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend the stay.
Stunning house, will for sure go back. Had everything that we needed and more!
Lovely place. Walking distance from beach area. Quiet environment.
We did enjoy our stay and would recommend to anyone. Our weekend house was very lovely and clean so thanks for a wonderful weekend.
We were unsure about the place as there were not very good reviews, but it was extremely enjoyable. We were warmly welcomed, the place was exceptionally clean and tidy. The couches are a bit worn out, but are closed with throws. The idea is surely that you won't wrestle on the couches and sit properly then the throws will not come off. The best mattress and pillows we've had by far. Linen was clean and good. Yes. The power trips if you have too many appliances on. You can't make toast, boil water and have the stove on while someone showers, but it really isn't the end of the world. We had a nice stay, we wanted to stay longer. Just one suggestion: Take toilet paper and dish soap together.
We were welcomed very kindly and they were very helpful until late. The cottage has everything you need, clean and spacious. Would stay there again anytime.
Was very neat with friendly service.
Very cute and neat. Lovely!
Really difficult since we only slept there, got up and left.
It was a fantastic break from our everyday chase. On arrival we found a beautiful, clean and tidy, house with everything we needed. We were 3 adults and 3 children and there was plenty of sleeping space for all. We certainly used the braai room the most and enjoyed it so much. We slept well and were refreshed so that we could return to our everyday life with new courage. The cottage is stunning! We will definitely stay there again.
We have read previous guests' reviews and trust that said complaints would be resolved. See review 18 Dec 17. Great was our disappointment when we were told on arrival that the stove and boiler cannot be used at the same time as it cuts off the power. It then appeared that there was not enough mains power supply and that ordinary household power cables were laid from the main power board. We could only use the smallest plate on the stove for kettle boiling water and food, no oven and this for a unit that caters for 6 people, totally unacceptable. Banks' cushions are broken and insides are peeling out and are only hidden with "throws". Running toilet problem we as women had to solve ourselves as it would keep us awake because the room partitions were made of wooden panels. The double bed's one board on the bed base is broken and was fixed with wire and covered with a pillow case. No mattress protectors on any of the mattresses. At R1600 per night it was certainly not value for money or a pleasant stay. It is clear that the mentioned problems have been a problem that has not been solved for some time. E.g. the power problem could be eased by replacing the stove with a gas stove.
The house's linen and beds were extremely poor. The main bedroom's bed and headboard are broken. No wardrobes make a 10 day stay inconvenient! The sofas and cushions were torn everywhere. No headlights in bedrooms. No barbecue dish or sufficient cutlery. The stove and boiler trip the power constantly and we got no help from the owner after many messages.
The accommodation does not meet standards. The fridge didn't, so they fixed it. The stove didn't work properly as it keeps tripping the power. Poor beds and linen. The curtains were at some places held together with clothes pins. The rooms didn't have a light bulb on the ceiling. The reception was quite unfriendly.
Accommodation was not up to standard. Needs maintenance.
