The Bush Camp is a small, private getaway set above the flood lines of the Vaal River. Guests can experience the river and adventure activities, Vredefort Dome and the quaint town of Parys with its coffee shops, restaurants, antiques and art galleries.
It is best suited to active guests who want to experience nature and adventure activities.
The property is supplied by Eskom, gas cookers and geysers.
Guests are requested to play their part in managing their waste and recycling. Please bring battery-powered lights for late nights.
There are 3 A-frame thatched cabins in the Bush Camp. The communal social lapa has a fire pit, a kitchen with a freezer, fridge, 2-plate gas stove, and whistling kettle, and a built-in braai area. The 3 thatched A-frame cabins are Caracal which contains 1 double and 3 single beds, Malachite which contains 1 double and 1 single bed, and Pangolin which contains 4 single beds. The 3 cabins are rented as a unit, and have use of a shared ablution facility. There is an additional Cormorant Cabin that sleeps 4 guests.
The entire bush camp including the 3 A-frame Cabins and Cormorant Cabin can be booked out exclusively for a private group of between 8 and 14 people.
The cabins look out over a lawn towards the swimming pool and riverbanks 150 m below. The camp centers on a beautiful rock pool-style swimming pool and it is built around a ‘koppie’ with a view of the Vaal River Valley.
The hosts can tell guests all about the area and show them around on the riverbank, or advise about walking and canoeing trails. There is a shaded outlook spot at the river for sundowners, fishing and birdwatching.

14 guests' feedbackWe were 12 guys on a golf tour, stayed over for 2 nights. The people were very friendly and helpful. We had a great time staying, visiting and sleeping. We will go there again if we plan another trip like this.
It was a nice relaxing stay for us. Everything was clean. Had fun as a family with teenagers and grandparents. Great bush feeling. I would go again if their per night fee was lower.
Beautiful surroundings. Accommodation needs attention. Not very neat, even if it is in the woods. Had a nice stay.
No hot water in the mornings meant we had to take cold showers. Bathroom facilities in general are poor and dirty. The road to the units is not suitable for sedan motor cars. No pre-instructions were provided on how to enter the premises or exit on the day of departure (we had to phone to find out for ourselves). Overall, there was no customer service and it was not worth the tariff.
Sleeping area has almost no ventilation. Power was off from 22:00 to 07:30. Didn't sleep at all, was too hot in the place. Bedding was dirty.
We enjoyed our stay in this relaxed environment. All basics were in the unit. We liked the sound of the flowing river just a few meters away. Very peaceful and quiet.
The potential is there to experience the natural beauty, but access to the Vaal River is quite limited and not animal friendly. The facilities are clean, tidy and comfortable with no shortage of relaxation. The braai area could be a little more insulated, especially in winter. Definitely recommend for larger groups.
They can just upgrade their mattresses.
Great weekend away.
It is nice to be in nature.
We had a terrible start to the weekend due to various unforeseen incidents, but 10 minutes after arriving at Otters Haunt, we have completely forgotten about the past 24 hours. Beautiful surroundings, lovely walks, quiet and absolute soul-food! Just what we needed, just a pity we couldn't stay longer.
The cutlery is very limited.
Might as well replace their pots and pans with new ones. Lapa and one room leaks when it rains, but otherwise a very nice place.
