Oude Wellington Estate
Oude Wellington Estate
Oude Wellington Estate

Accommodation is on a Cape Holland Estate from 1790, with traditional white walls and gables, as well as a rustic restaurant in a working distillery, and rooms where the old charm is combined with comfort. Most rooms have air conditioning, DVD player, smart TV, wine fridge, microwave, free Wi-Fi, a wall safe and tea and coffee-making facilities. Each room has its own private entrance.
Besides the luxury graded 4-star guestrooms
there are 4 basic self-catering options for 1 to 6 guests, some with a braai or a fireplace. These are serviced but only available for two nights.
Guests with disabilities can be accommodated in a comfortable room on the ground floor.
The cosy restaurant is a separate business on the estate, please contact them directly for reservations. open from Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner and on Sunday a very nice lunch buffet.
The new spa offers excellent massages, reflexology and hot stone treatments, please book in advance, also to use the Sauna within the spa room.
The swimming pool has an automatic pool cover. Parents are responsible for their children. Please note that the dams on the farm are not fenced.
For entertainment, there is pétanque, billiards, a swimming pool, outdoor tennis table and a large chess set. There are also three friendly dogs, cats, and a plethora of exotic parrots and alpacas. The alpacas are friendly animals and will approach if you call. Visitors should please respect them; they are not pets.
The estate is also home to a fine Arabian horse stud. Unfortunately, no outrides yet.

57 guests' feedbackPleasant host. We had a nice stay. Very nice environment and guest house!
Delicious breakfast and good service!
Service was also very good - the lady who received us was very friendly. Breakfast was also nice and filling.
See stars.
Restaurant and distillery were closed. No more wine is made. Call ahead of time to find out if the new restaurant is already open and in operation. Only VIP rooms have power with load shedding.
The accommodation is neat, clean and the bed is comfortable. The unit could be better equipped because it is offered as self-catering, but has very limited accessories. Would be nice if provision could be made for load shedding, especially at the price per night.
Some of the upgrades and color schemes don't match the "old" world charm. Attention can be paid to the overall care/cleanliness of the gardens and buildings.
Very disappointing. Unit needs attention and needs cleaning.
We were well helped with our baby and nanny when we had to check in early for a wedding. The place is beautiful and wish we could have stayed longer. Breakfast 10/10. Thank you very much.
We only stayed for one night and we wished we stayed longer. The accommodation is absolutely beautiful, and the hosts are super friendly! Had such a wonderful time seeing all the different animals as well! Would highly recommend!
This is a beautiful destination with amazing views. Thanks to the staff for ensuring we have a good experience staying over.
It was a wonderful experience to be able to sleep on such an old farm. It is clean, tidy, wonderfully quiet. Dinner was delicious as was the breakfast. We also had a massage with the lady. Can recommend it and the place for sure.
Enjoyed my one night stay here. I think the main feedback is the lack of access to taxis. The hosts should have some taxi numbers on hand to assist guests. Thanks.
Thanks for the place to sleep. The surroundings are so beautiful and it feels good to be able to breathe fresh air instead of Gauteng air. Tranquility is wonderful.
Although Margaret did her best to receive us warmly, the owner's wife was really inept and curt. Even refuse to make hard-boiled eggs instead. scrambled eggs because there are more than 10 guests. It's definitely not a 4-star guest house. Too few pillows and no soap in the bathroom. Duvet was lovely and warm. The place is badly neglected and needs a lot of attention. The garden/farm also looks bad. Parking and entrance are very sketchy. Restaurant was also not open in the evening over the long weekend.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, but they are definitely not 5-star, even though they are advertised as such on Oude Wellington's own website. The breakfast is substandard and although there was a bottle of Oude Wellington's own MCC in an ice bucket displayed on the side table, with glasses and orange juice, we were later informed that the MCC was not included with breakfast and an extra R250 was therefore payable in advance. The placement of the bottle on the display table was misleading and moreover R250 is very expensive for a low quality MCC. It's a gamble and we were not impressed.
Old Wellington is nestled against the beautiful mountains of Wellington and quite safe to visit, unfortunately that's where the good news ends. As a family it was supposed to be a highlight after a fun tour of the West Coast that included stays at Yzerfontein and Club Mykonos. At more than R3000 per night, we should have stayed longer at any of the previous destinations. Parking was a problem due to a wedding being held there on the Friday night. The advertised restaurant was not available all weekend and we therefore had to drive to town for breakfast and dinner. The advertised distillery is no longer in working order and could not be visited. The Alpacas that are shown so beautifully in photos are just one white and one black one standing so far away in an unmaintained camp, so my kids showed no interest because they could barely see them. The unit itself was full of dust and basic kitchen necessities were not available. Air conditioning is advertised in some units and although it was not needed due to the weather we had, you would expect the most expensive unit on the farm to have air conditioning, which again was not the case. The pool was inaccessible on Friday and Saturday afternoon although it was cleaned on Saturday morning. The farm as a whole needs significant repairs and one gets the impression that the owners just don't have any interest in keeping it in good condition anymore, which is a great shame.
Stay was bad!
It is disingenuous to claim it is a four-star establishment, when the separate cottages/rooms are not four-star, a fact that is only shared on arrival. Also, the restaurant was closed, there were no spa facilities available, the TV wasn't working and the animals were specks in a distant field. The rooms were also not very clean - lots of cobwebs, and dust under the beds. It is over-priced for what you get and not more than 3-star at best. I would not recommend it at the current price.
Breakfast not as desired.
We were kindly received, had a delicious wine and brandy tasting with Magret, enjoyed a delicious breakfast and the guest house is located in a very beautiful location!
Have a nice visit. Got what I paid for.
Very relaxed location and nice for walks.
I enjoyed my stay very much was so relaxing. Thank you for a stunning breakfast.
Breakfast was not as ordered.
The buildings and grounds are well maintained and aesthetically pleasing. Enjoy a delicious breakfast on the porch. We had a great time relaxing and enjoying the visit.
Experience living in the historic residence, so much nostalgia. Room well furnished, delicious breakfast served. Restaurant is to be recommended: friendly reception and the food bears witness to that of a top chef! You just feel at home.
The host and wife, along with their staff, went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Add to that the old world charm of the historic buildings, Crystal the Husky on his regular patrols, and the best Brazilian black bean soup served with farm bread ─ a great weekend getaway!
Loving reception in a fairytale ambience. Too bad there isn't a sort in this water-poor country. The water was not warm either. But we enjoyed the stay in the house of 1795. The wine tasting was cool and the dinner unbeatable!
The rooms are clean and neat with crisp white linen and towels. The best is the spacious bathroom which had a bath and shower. Would have loved more self-catering facilities such as cutlery, dish towels and ice, but the overall the stay was very enjoyable. The only suggestion is to really reconsider the way the restaurant operates, especially the menu, quality of food and service.
Oh no! Don't want to be reminded of the place again. All that was excellent was the restaurant Bar Bar Black Sheep, John and Susara provided excellent food.
We were kindly welcomed and immediately felt at home. The unit was clean and tidy and had everything we needed, even a hairdryer. There is an information sheet in the room with a list of local restaurants which we found useful and also historical information about the farm and the animals which my children really enjoyed. There is lots of space, the children really enjoyed the farm feel with the animals, pool and pond. The feeling is predominantly one of "sit back and relax". The kitchen staff are very friendly and accommodating towards the children's dietary needs.
Neat and clean. Pleasant atmosphere.
The buildings dates back to the 17th century and they are truly amazing! Friendly staff. They walk the extra mile ensuring that you're confortable and happy.
Just what we were looking for. Some place quiet in a beautiful area.
Very charming and nicely located.
It has the potential to be a great place but our room and the main house where breakfast is served were then covered in dust and cobwebs. It hasn't been cleaned in months - not the floors, furniture, thatched ceiling or under/behind the beds. It's a real shame, because the clean white linen, dressing gowns, nice breakfast, etc. disappeared in a proverbial cloud of dust.
Delicious breakfast. Restaurant on premisses recommended.
The host was very welcoming, I can only give this accommodation 100% and hope I have the opportunity to stay there again.
It's now Thursday and we still talk every day that we just want to go back! The old-fashioned charm of the buildings and decor with the incredibly hospitable Collin made us feel so at home here. The breakfast was delicious, especially the bacon! The on-site restaurant is quite expensive, but the food was like art and the portions were more than enough. For city lads, it was really a treat to find such delicious food here. Thanks for the wonderful time Oude Wellington!
We really enjoyed our stay at Oude Wellington. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The guest house is well located.
There was no hot water when we arrived and the next day the water was not hot enough to turn on the cold tap. Either the temperature is set too low, or the element is too small. Our neighbors who shared the geyser with us also complained. The heater's one wheel was broken. The waste container in the bathroom pedal is broken. The phone didn't work. The eggs were baked as hard as frisbees - not at all "easy over" as requested. The place may look like a 4 star, but it doesn't deserve it.
The cottage was well located and clean, but there are only solar panels that provide hot water and on a cloudy day there was only cold water. If you showered in the evening, there was NO hot water in the mornings ─ so bad! Staff not professional either, although easily available on SMS.
It was truly a pleasure to arrive at Oude Wellington and be welcomed with open arms. I stayed in a single room which fully met my needs - it was comfortable, cool (despite the Boland October sun) and clean. Definitely a place I will visit again.
It was a particularly beautiful place for us; the homestead, the cozy suite where we slept, the food, the wine, the hospitality. It was definitely value for money.
We immediately felt at home in the peaceful farm atmosphere and surrounded by the historic buildings. We were kindly received and quickly taken to our room, which we appreciated as my husband was very tired and dirty after hours on his mountain bike. The room offered everything we were looking for. The breakfast was delicious and was served by friendly staff.
Nice place with an excellent restaurant, beautiful location quiet safe and real value for money. I can really recommend the place, will stay there again.
The place case is very cute and clean. It is also safe and you can park near your room. The breakfast we got was also very nice. The only aspect that needs improvement is the communication between the management and the restaurant. We were hoping to do a wine and brandy tasting and the manager gave us the feeling that he didn't want to do that. He later confirmed that we could go to the restaurant who confirmed that the only person who could help with that was on leave.
Very nice farm with the right atmosphere for guests who want to get away from the busy city life. Close enough to explore the area. Although the restaurant's menu and food are very good, it is a shame that they do not provide light meals and guests have to drive back to town for them.
The farm is beautiful. The location is good, close to the airport and Cape Town. However, we were welcomed very quickly, and given very little information about the setting and other amenities. Wasn't aware of the restaurant on the farm either. The rooms are nice, but not extraordinary. The prices are affordable.
The place is a little run-down. The owner or managers had a huge fight with each other while we were there, somewhat uncomfortable ... Only one DStv channel works. But the room is quite nice, with old victorian style fittings.
Something different for the inland person who does not know winemaking and distillery. Good restaurant.
Old Cape accommodation, exactly what the doctor recommended for our large group. We had people from Canada and England in our group and were handled comfortably. Advantage is the restaurant on site, we could just visit there and the food was excellent. Directly opposite Kleinevalleij wedding venue, we stayed for 6 days. Rooms cool, big and beautiful.
The ancient buildings and rooms' decor is stylishly done, unfortunately it was like a freezer when we walked in. Fortunately there is temperature regulation, but it took a few hours to become livable. Otherwise a pleasant stay and tasty breakfast.
