388 guests' feedbackHad a nice stay. Only the cold water from the bath is very slow when it enters. You need to run it for more than an hour. Also pleasant.
Yes, thank you. Very peaceful in nature.
It was very nice, will definitely go to Out of Africa again.
Peaceful, clean and cozy.
Peaceful, fun and relaxing. Great bushlife experience. Safe, easy-to-follow hiking trails.
We really enjoyed staying here. Wow! What a wonderful and beautiful place. Excellent location in the Hartebeespoort area. Close to Dinokeng, but not in the reserve, so no daily conservation or self-drive fees are required. Their property has beautiful walking areas and gardens. Nice place to take a leisurely stroll, beautiful gardens and a pretty little pond with ducks. The unit is beautifully laid out, very clean and easily one of our favorite places so far! Private braai area, a great bath in the unit. Everything was just awesome! We will definitely be back!
It was very comfortable and the place inside and outside very very clean, and it was value for the money I spent.
Stay was wonderful. Would absolutely stay again.
We had a very nice stay. Our chalet was clean and comfortable. The reception is friendly and helpful.
Yes, it was nice and peaceful.
It was a very nice stay. The only thing I'd recommend is getting a fan in the hut, as it is extremely hot. I forgot mine at home. Other than that, no complaints.
Very nice and very peaceful.
Very nice, very peaceful.
Was great and will definitely go again.
You get what you pay for, worked very well for us, as a group of 10.
Friends from Germany were visiting SA and I accompanied them to a few of the “things to do” near Hartebeespoort dam. Out of Africa Lodge is very central and near the most important "must do's". We enjoyed our braai every evening, sharing stories around the fire. A suggestion was made that the lodge must upgrade facilities a bit, i.e. providing WiFi, replacing linen and towels. Overall, a good rating from all. All the best, Helena.
Had a great stay. And lots to do and see around the corner.
Very nice, was wonderfully peaceful and safe!
It was great, nice little quiet bush experience. We really enjoyed it. The toilet gave us a bit of issues in regards to flushing. Just have it checked, please.
Our stay was a great experience in the bush, was very safe & peaceful.
We had a pleasant and easygoing stay with minimal issues. The owners and staff were all very friendly and welcoming, constantly engaging and always ensuring that we were happy and enjoying our time there.
It was a very pleasant experience, really got a feeling of being in the woods. All complaint is that on the last night of our stay there was no water from 4 o'clock in the afternoon and it didn't arrive until around 3 o'clock in the morning and we couldn't get hold of anyone to report it (there was no one at reception not, doors were locked and contact number didn't even ring).
Our stay was fantastic; the staff are very friendly.
Lovely stay, cute place with animals roaming around the resort. Would have preferred there were more blankets available in the unit as we were there in the winter and the unit was quite cool. Other than that it was very pleasant!
Clean and tidy accommodation near Harties. Enjoyed the bath! Will recommend.
We stayed overnight for a wedding we attended in the area but weren't in the cabin for long other than when we got ready and then came back to sleep. The service was incredible, they even let us check in earlier to get ready for our friends' wedding. The only issue we had was that the entire cabin smelt of creosote, the smell absorbed into our luggage and clothes, and my partner experienced troubles with his throat because of how strong it was. Luckily we had the aircon on throughout the evening to try and neutralize the air, but it was extremely strong. We decided not to stay an extra night, and our clothes were tainted with the smell so we had gone home instead. Other than that, would recommend!
The place is amazing. I would definitely come back. The staff is very friendly and the location is so perfect. But the pool is so small. They should consider creating more pools.
It was very nice. Just a pity the pool was green.
In the surroundings of Out of Africa there are many things to do for young and old. Nice central location.
Definitely value for money. Unfortunately 10 km from the dam. Would love to stay near the dam. And there people played loud music until late. Would think the place doesn't allow loud music.
Grateful that our complaint regarding the noise was dealt with and sorted out without delay after hours.
We had a very nice stay. Everything was neat. All that was missing were wine glasses.
Please call me to discuss concerns.
We took a little break for the weekend to relax. We were looking forward to the game. When we got there, we were warmly welcomed. The next day we went to ask about the game and the restaurant that was advertised. The lady said that there is no restaurant or wildlife trails. She said the wildlife would be at the cottages. We saw 1 giraffe in 3 days.
Very basic and all what we needed for the two nights. Comfortable and clean. Strange was the water saving notice, then we had these huge jacuzzi style baths.
Couldn't use the pool because it was grass green. The outdoor shower was lovely, but there wasn't enough privacy. The boards and steps outside were a bit dilapidated. There was no place to hang clothes. Outdoor chairs for the barbecue are recommended, there was no place to sit outside.
Everything was lovely; I really enjoyed the accommodation. The only irritating thing about our stay was that we had no hot water throughout our stay and no plug to wash dishes.
We really enjoyed it.
We had a nice stay but the answer here could be yes or no if we stayed longer.
There is a lack of lights or candles for loadshedding times. It was very dark. Roof fan was broken. Fridge kept leaking water and floor was constantly wet. Hot tub not at all suitable for a romantic getaway. Bedding was clean. Spots need upgrading.
Very basic rooms. Most chalets do not have showers, only baths. Good for an overnhght stay.
We enjoyed our stay. The lady was very friendly during check-in. The giraffe came close to the rooms. It is safe. The hiking trails were a little confusing. Please fix the hot water; it's no fun trying to bathe with cold water in winter. The geyser was leaking.
Had a nice stay, general maintenance not up to standard.
Only slept there 1 night. Shower short curtain. Bathroom facilities in both rooms, needs some work. Also pleasant.
Basically just slept over, didn't even walk through the lodge but generally clean and tidy and affordable.
A few items not in the unit, braai utilities. Pool not in working condition.
Mattress in cabin 1 needs to be replaced. Springs sting you when you sleep. Water leak reported in bathroom at sink.
There was a problem with the room given, but it was cleared up very quickly. Photos of rooms are slightly misleading. Although the unit is very cute, the maintenance of the unit is very bad. Walls and doors are unbelievably dirty, windows are broken and cannot close (unfortunately there was a windstorm and the window was banging all night). Curtain arrangements were hung from the rafters by wire. No coffee or sugar was put out. The worst for me was that the towels that were put out were full of holes. Unfortunately I have to say, we have stayed in much better maintained places for less. With soap, bathroom spray, coffee and sugar in the unit, as well as plenty of different sized towels laid out. Unfortunately we will not stay here again.
I know that load shedding is an issue but there must be some way to provide electricity to the units through a generator. In the summer it is very hot and no electricity means no fans. The water pressure to the bath was so bad that it took 20 min to fill a 1/4 of the bath.
The water was cold, and they also didn't turn on our geyser until 8 o'clock in the evening. The jacuzzi's drainage was very poor, water washed into the chalet. I fell, and may have broken a rib, very weak the way it is built! Would not recommend.
The floor was dirty, sheets not washed, no hot water.
The stay was fun, but there was hardly any hot water - the geyser was leaking very badly. Nothing was washed before we got there. Plates, cups, etc. were dirty.
I love that you get your own privacy and you do not have to share a braai stand. The staff is friendly and patient.
Thank you very much Jaun for the kind reception. Thank you for accommodating earlier check-in. It is appreciated. We were lucky to see giraffes. Great restaurant and bar area.
Keep up the good work.
I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.
Lots of space, quiet, friendly host and beautiful nature.
Very nice place, to go away for a few days. Very quiet and calm. Worth the money you pay and it also has a nice restaurant and bar. Only thing I would recommend is a light at the braai area outside and a braai container.
Out of Africa Lodge is value for money, excellent location and all the staff maintained great customer service. Rooms are tastefully furnished and facilities are clean and tidy.
Beautiful sunsets and sunrises, great walking trails, and a restaurant a few feet away to go play a game of pool and have a drink. Loved our stay and everyone was helpful and accommodating! Will definitely recommend!
See stars.
Very friendly reception and service. The food in the restaurant was delicious, thank you.
The place was different and enjoyable, had a walking trail and was very well located too. I recommend this place highly and the Price was awesome.
Sien sterre.
The Bushbaby unit was very nice in the forest in nature. Very cute outdoor shower which was very nice. Footpath is very well marked and very nice views. Would definitely recommend this place to everyone.
The place is very well located near als and rondavel has everything you need. Bath is open in front of the bed so it must be a couple, because it's not very private, but perfect for a couple.
The place has everything one needs.
Friendly reception and very well furnished. Always a pleasure to stay here!
The staff is very friendly and willing to help. The place is beautiful and located in an area with beautiful nature.
Nice stay, quiet and private with all necessities in the unit.
It's just awesome! Will definitely visit there again! They put us in a bigger room when we arrived.
Won't say you're only an hour from Pretoria. Kids had so much fun. Perfect place to sit and relax. The perfect getaway. Sit by the pool and read while the kids swim, and nothing beats a braai with the South African sunset. End the day with a nice relaxing spa bath.
Warm welcome, friendly staff.
Needs a big container to put hot food from the braai in. Braai utensils, please.
It lacks a little maintenance on small things, but it's not serious.
Friendly service and good location.
The place looks like the pictures. When we got there all the paperwork was already done. Very friendly and professional. The lady just confirmed who we were and handed over the keys with additional information. We ordered meals from the restaurant that were delivered to us.
Accommodation and restaurant very reasonable prices. Conveniently within reach of all the attractions. No noise and owners very hospitable. Will definitely stay there again.
Stay was nice, however, we experienced some poor treatment from other guests.
There were a lot of ants in the kitchen and the bathtub.
The place had been peaceful and comfortable. The place could do with maintenance, the towel rail was loose and the fan made a lot of noise. We had to build a fort around him for more silence. Room was still not ready when we arrived at 4 o'clock. Owner was helpful.
It was nice. Can we have a bigger swimming pool and big pots for larger groups?
We will go again. It was peaceful and quiet and very centrally located. It was really good value for money. Would definitely recommend it.
Good value for money, friendly and helpful staff. Bar and Restaurant on location for convenience.
Value for the money one pays.
Thank you to the staff for their kindness and for being very helpful. One of the nicest places to spend the night and delicious food.
Even with Saturday's wedding guests, didn't feel crowded. The cleaners are very subtle. The jacuzzi in the rondavel is a winner!
We were very surprised that there was a bar on site. As it was not advertised. Had a great time relaxing and making new friends. Will definitely visit again with more friends.
Enjoyed it a lot. The rondavel was very beautiful.
We enjoyed our stay. It's quiet and peaceful.
Very peaceful atmosphere. Maintenance can only be stepped up. Also very nice stay.
Place was clean and tidy, could take a nice hot bath. Woke up to two squirrels living in the roof, and giraffes grazing not too far from our cottage. We had breakfast at the lodge's restaurant, which was really value for money. Will want to stay a little longer next time to tackle one of the hiking trails.
Owner and reception/barmaid fantastic who have guests' interests at heart.
The bedding had a few spots/stains on it. I would not recommend white bedding. The chalet needs a bit of maintenance and TLC. The kitchen was very basic - no wine glasses and no metal to put meat in after braaiing. The bathroom needs towel rails. Small mats next to the bed would have been nice and maybe a rug in the lounge to make it cosier. Upstairs loft bedroom could use a small bedside table between the beds.
Although the rondavel does not contain the most luxurious equipment or all the necessities, there are sufficient facilities for a getaway. The bath is no longer on the floor (as in the photo) ─ it's nice and big with steps.
It was lovely. Exactly what I expected from the pictures. Friendly staff. Very warm too - using blankets and heater.
Nice Ndebele chalets.
Was a nice getaway from JHB.
Beautiful place gives relaxing vibes, they should just clarify that there is no jacuzzi available in all rooms.
We will definitely go again.
Just the place to find yourself. Nice hiking trails, clean pool. We loved the wildlife that walks between houses (come to drink water early morning and late afternoon). Because we are animal lovers, we really enjoyed Milo's visits. He stopped by every morning and afternoon to make sure we were okay, and of course got a treat. Thank you for your hospitality and will see you again for sure.
The Jacuzzi bath did not work. The OpenView TV was not good.
Linen and towels smell like old shoes. Place really needs maintenance.
People were very friendly, restaurant was very bilik and the food was very tasty.
I was not made aware that I'll only be provided with firewood for 1 night.
We stayed in two different Ndebele chalets (personally booked another night) and the 2nd chalet was better because the bath was newer and there was enough hot water. Unfortunately the first chalet's bath was old, painted over, stained and the paint was also coming off terribly and I suspect there was something wrong with the geyser because we didn't have enough hot water. I will still go again because we really enjoyed our stay.
Would have like that reception inform us of more things and activities in and around the venue.
It's a good overnight destination.
Reception was polite but minimal. Room clean and tidy. No information was offered/visible about: WiFi availability/access, TV and decoder operation, food/grocery options, local hike path/map. Other facilities within the grounds. People permitted to smoke in reception & entertainment area was a significant disappointment. Kitchen utensils very basic for self-catering. Maintenance of the estate looked like it was probably in decline - a significant red flag for any future visits.
My stay was nice and comfy. Out of Africa Lodge is a chilled place for clearing the mind because the houses are spaced apart, but I am not happy with their bedding. It had red stains, and the shower only has cold water.
Only 1 fan in the whole place. Furthermore, there were a few cockroaches. Clean and tidy. Other people were partying and making noise all night.
The house is cute. But the bed was so hard, might as well sleep on the ground. My friend and I both slept badly.
For the money we paid, they could honestly upgrade the place. The blanket towels... no, no. The cupboards and wall plugs are very dirty.
See stars.
No rules or information were given about location or walking routes. The houses are not cleaned properly, stains on bed bases and sofas have very old crumbs and wax is sticky. Nice stay but lack of work with cleanliness and maintenance.
The picture of the rooms was exactly what we saw. The outside was like the bushes or forest, which they never showed, only swimming pool. Room 7 on arrival, the TV was not working and we reported it, but nothing was done. They were aggressive towards us when we complained about that, telling us they paid R1300 to repair it, so what must they do! Room 5 was full of cockroaches and had a bad smell on the sheets.
Booked and paid for an extra night. When we got there in the afternoon they completely forgot about us. Almost didn't have a room. Then they gave us our old room which was not clean. Had no bedding and TV was removed. As if they were still busy and just left everything for the next day. The owner definitely did not inspect the room first. They were already out the door, closing up for the day when we got there. Very disappointed.
On arrival the place had not been cleaned. We were not satisfied with the appearance of the accommodation. There were dirty spots on the wall, bedding was not as in the picture. Bedding was torn in places and could tell it had been mended by hand. There are also bleach stains on the towels. The bed's bases didn't even have a base cover on them.
Upon arrival there is not a guard or any staff member to show you where to go. Signage after reception is all there is to change. There was a candle available for the load shedding. The small piece we received in the accommodation was not even 10cm long. No matches to light it with. The bedding was dirty. It had stains and there were mouse droppings in the bedding. There was even hair on the pillows. Towels provided are very old. Dirty marks were clearly visible on the towels. Some of the towels even had holes in them. The shower head was broken and was spraying water in all directions. Shower floor was green with mold. I will definitely not use Out of Africa again. This is the first time I have had such a bad experience under one of the accommodation options.
The people were very hospitable. The bed was very dirty, cockroaches and bed bugs. My 2 year old daughter and myself were badly bitten by bed bugs.
Four of us went away for the night to celebrate my birthday and we were very disappointed. The marketing on this accommodation, far outweighs the experience. We booked two separate chalets. Both were what not was expected. The website completely oversells the place. The one (more "luxurious") unit had two wasp nests, right outside the door, leading to the outdoor (poorly kept) shower. The TV did not work. The second unit was dirty. The linen was dirty, the bath was dirty (with blue stuff all over) and cracked. It was extremely unpleasant. Not one person showered or bathed as it was too filthy. We were also assured that both units had queen sized beds. The second chalet had a double bed, that had what looked like dry blood on the duvet cover. The staff was not very friendly either. And so much for no noise after 8pm (which we stuck to). There was a party within the accommodation that were so loud until about 2am. I am extremely displeased as I booked the accommodation and everyone who joined me to celebrate my big day, were unhappy. I have photos of the dirty linen and bath, if you would like them.
A lot to do and see around Hartbeespoort.
Thank you very much for a nice visit. Hope we see you again soon.
The service was awesome from the reception to the cleaners. Exquisite.
It was nice. Was there for the 3rd time now. Will come again next year.
The owner is so helpful and with no fakeness. Was really peaceful and we rested. We love the place and will go again.
It's the perfect getaway for your 31 year wedding anniversary.
My husband and I got away for a long weekend - it was peaceful, clean and close to tourist attractions. We enjoyed the time together - the place was well furnished.
It was nice and quiet and relaxing.
There was no soap. Can't remember if we had to take our own, just went to buy. Will just combine in the future to be safe. Someone's dog barked almost all night. Was quite annoying. Furthermore, we will definitely stay there again and recommend the place. Such an in-the-woods feeling. Was very nice. The 4 bags of sugar are just a little bit. My husband alone drinks 4 sugars. Will bring our own coffee and sugar next time.
We enjoyed the venue/setup. It would be a plus if there was room service and DStv. However its not a must as we are on holiday/break. Everything about the place is appropriate to the season so I'll definitely be making another booking.
See stars.
See stars.
It is a very neat and very good location, we were close to everything. Will stay there again.
It was nice and quiet. It's just what we needed to get away from the city. Was easy and quick to make bookings. I would definitely recommend it again.
The place in the photos is not the place we got, our room was much smaller, but was still beautiful.
Exactly what I had in mind for me and my husband's weekend away. Quiet, private and good for the body, soul and spirit. Everything was so easy to do, from booking to check-in and the next day's check-out. Thank you very much.
See stars.
Great place and people, would just like a microwave in the room to heat up any meals.
There is no hot water in the sink. The sink is very impractical because the water pipe is too low and therefore you can't wash your face or hair, you hit your head. The shower door was broken and the towel rail was loose from the wall. The white towels had dirty marks on them. Directions do not show on Google Map. It would be appreciated if there is coffee etc. is on arrival as well as on departure. Directions inside lodge are not very clear. Didn't know about restaurant. The stay was very nice, don't get us wrong, only recommendations for other guests in the future.
It was peaceful. Nice walking paths. Will definitely come again.
We enjoyed it so much. Staff were friendly and helpful. The 2 women who came to clean our room were so considerate. Will stay with you again anytime. It is beautiful! Ducklings came round in the morning, so precious.
We had to go back earlier because our puppy was crying too much and the owner said we could bring her next time. Accommodating in all respects.
The room/rondavel was particularly beautiful and well spaced. Loadshedding just makes it a bit unpleasant but there was always hot water. The main road is just terribly noisy in the evening but it was still a lovely stay.
Convenient because it is close to places to visit, felt very welcome and has privacy. Enjoyed it a lot.
Very nice will definitely visit again! 5/5. Good service, in Afrikaans!
It was quiet, peaceful and blissful. I had the opportunity to see the giraffes, it was so beautiful. The chalet was beautiful and had everything needed. The walk was nice and peaceful.
Great and lots to do.
Was a beautiful place, but I would advise that the bath mats be kept clean.
Was lovely. Just us and the nature.
Very neat. Everything was in working order, and as expected.
We stayed in the Ndebele rondavel - however, the photos on your page show much more beautiful than when you are there, it is dark when you walk in, because there are no windows, only wooden shutters (that can open) - but then you know you don't know what bugs get into everything. It does say on your page that there are shutters, but the photos on your page show it much better. Even with the lights on it was dark for me. The shutters do not have curtains, so when you open them, there is no privacy. The wooden shutters don't close tightly either, so we drove and bought things for mosquitoes. The spa bath was lovely, although it doesn't look good, looks like fiberglass it was fixed with, so it looks dirty and gross and not pretty at all. I washed the entire tub before we used it, so although it was clean, it looks dirty. Slept well though. There were also dishes on the drying rack when we got there, which should have been put away.
The staff is very helpful and friendly, I can even say that they go the extra mile. The place is not far from quite a number of activities in Harties which makes it convenient.
The beds were the only problem. They are so hard (the mattresses are finished), the couch was much more comfortable.
We were in Cabin 1 for just one night. Bed is damn uncomfortable, place is incredibly stuffy and hot. We also experienced load shedding while we were there. There wasn't even a candle to light.
The weekend at Out of Africa started well. It's a very nice resort, with a smart layout of the Rondawels and resort. I would therefore not be able to recommend Out of Africa to people looking for a quiet weekend away. The rondavel was neat, but dirty. We had to ask for bed linen to be replaced due to a layer of dust on the pillowcases, duvet and blankets. Both Friday and Saturday, residents played loud music at the pool, where you could hear it all the way to the rondavel. We had to call to ask if they would talk to the residents to lower the volume. Rules that will prevent loud music at the pool and at the rondavels will have to be implemented.
Chairs very full of dust.
Giraffe Chalet: front door no handle to open from inside, Jacuzzi tub not working. Cockroach nest found under bathtub.
Would just say that they take more care of the mosquitoes. It was unpleasant when the power was off with the loadshedding, we were almost eaten by the mosquitos when the fan was off, but overall it was a good place to break away.
Let me start by saying that I realize you are paying a lower price for this unit, and to some extent you will of course receive other amenities if you pay more. It is difficult to get a good idea of the exact layout from the photos. The log cabin really provides the true minimum of what one will need. It's a one-room cabin, with the double bed that just barely fits in the room. The cabin has no insulation, and the sun baked him hot. It was cooler outside than inside. The bathroom is just a cove in the small room and does not have a door. There is no coffee, tea, sugar or milk. You only get a bag of instant coffee that already has sugar and milk powder in it. I also want to mention that there is a latch lock on both sides of the door, so someone can lock the door from the outside, separate from the lock on the inside. These are just a few things that I think one should know in advance. The log cabin is not at all what I would recommend if you have any intention of spending time at the lodge during the day - maybe if you really just want to sleep there in the evening. I would book with Out of Africa again, but rather with another unit that is more comfortably laid out and offers a bit more space.
Was there about 15 years ago too. It was very nice, the grass and buildings may just need attention again.
We arranged overnight accommodation at Out of Africa because we had to attend a wedding that was due to start at 3 o'clock. We could only clock 2 hours so our time was short. When we returned after midnight there was no hot water. When my husband went to ask reception the next morning we were told to have read something where they specified it. No idea where we should have read that. Otherwise, we were warmly welcomed at their beautiful reception and quickly checked out in the morning without any problems. Could be a beautiful place but just needs some care and attention.
The marketing of Out Of Africa is misleading, there is not a queen size bed, but two single beds that have been moved next to each other, it made sleeping a bit difficult because the beds move. The kettle was unusable because it had been cleaned with some chemical, so we had to use a pot to boil water for coffee. There was also no room service, in terms of cleaning on the Friday, I believe it was due to the public holiday. Furthermore, the marketing is also misleading because it has been said that the unit is isolated but on the contrary it would appear that the unit is on a private site. Although the owner was friendly, you still felt like you were "invading" his privacy. The lodge could also do a bit more to make the stay really more romantic for guests, the unit has potential to be an outstanding romantic getaway. However, we enjoyed our visit.
Short canopies for vehicles.
I feel that one should be informed that the highway's road noise is very bad, just so that one does not arrive there with the wrong expectation. The mattresses are in a battered condition. The attic room's beds creak so that the people sleeping directly below wake up every time someone stirs or turns over there.
Photos on website very misleading.
Geyser did not heat water and other guests were still playing loud music in the morning hours.
Apparently it's new owners. Apparently in the process of fixing up the place, but at this stage I wouldn't advise anyone to book there at the moment. After many discussions this was the 1st major disappointment I can think of.
This was supposed to be a special getaway for myself and my fiance as we work 24/7. The outside light at the braai did not work. We were in darkness. The jacuzzi bath did not work. The lodge is very neglected and unwelcoming. Staff were not even around on check out at 10 am. Very dissatisfied. Total waste of a lot of hard-earned money. Other guests were also very unhappy. There are notices that no music after 8 pm, yet the music in the bar continued till late very very loud. The website advertises DStv. Only a TV and SABC. Very unhappy. The main gate did not close at night. Very unsafe.
If your pocket is low but you need a mini vacation away from city life then this is great. There is a garage around to buy basic things you forgot to pack. I really liked it.
Will go back there again anytime. It was very nice and so beautiful to wake up in the forest and look over the trees, it's amazing.
From our arrival to departure it was a lovely experience. Would definitely recommend Out of Africa to anyone. Less than an hour's drive from Pretoria with natural beauty and silence.
Friendly and helpful service. Hannes was very helpful, he answered all our questions and carried out our requests with a smile. Great service, neat accommodation and a peaceful atmosphere. You will definitely see us again!
We always have a great time.
The staff was friendly from the time we checked in, to the checking out. The guys at the reception desk were so friendly and even recommended other places for activities. We had our Saturday dinner there. Oh my word it was so yummy. The steak was to die for, delicious. My kids also enjoyed their burgers. Overall it was a perfect weekend away.
We wish we could take in more of the lodge. Our time was hopelessly short. Will definitely come again in the future and just book a whole weekend. It was clean and tidy. Quiet and able to take in nature. Thank you very much for the good service.
Owners and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Chalet was very neat and clean.
It is a amazing place, close to everything and the place is in order, definitely going again.
See stars.
Value for money.
We had a wonderful weekend, everything was perfect. The place is very nice.
Neat rooms, nice Jacuzzi baths, tidy. Private braai area at rooms is clean braai was clean everything was great.
The accommodation is really fantastic, easy to find and would definitely go back for a longer period. Friendly and very helpful staff.
Enjoyed the giraffes.
Out of Africa is a very cute getaway in the forest with lots of goats and there is even a cave that has Bushman drawings in it. I think you have to have a 4x4 to be able to drive into the forest and see the giraffes, but for people with normal cars there are also roebucks that graze close to the houses. The cabins are also beautifully done, although there were no amenities like hand soap, it was still a nice spacious apartment for 2 people. There is also an outdoor shower for if you want to shower in nature. The people are also extremely friendly and so accommodating! We were only able to check in late at night due to a flight and they waited patiently. I am very grateful for that. It was a wonderful peaceful weekend.
We were received very kindly, the check-in was super smooth and effortless. The accommodation is clean and tidy and everything is exactly as it is described in the advertisement. The environment was also pleasantly quiet. I would definitely stay there again.
Would love to recommend it.
We have giraffes, goats etc. saw. This is the type of accommodation we prefer. Out of the city bustle and no noise. The sink is a bit awkward, I'm short and my husband is tall. The toothbrush and face wash are a bit uncomfortable. The mattress may need to be replaced.
Except for load shedding, everything was perfect.
Very limited equipment in the kitchen for self accommodation.
Uit my ervaring was dit regtig 'n lekker plek.
Had the most amazing surprise being greeted by 3 giraffes on Saturday morning. Really made our stay perfect.
We slept in the Ndebele hut. Very clean and tidy. Nice boma and braai area.
We only arrived late due to traffic. Sonja followed up on our planning and arranged for additional staff to receive us. Wood was brought specially for us and we had such a nice barbecue in our own private boma. The room was clean and tidy and had everything we needed. We went for a walk the next morning and it was lovely. I would love to stay there again, believe the swimming pools will also be used in the summer months.
Would appreciate to have the pool warm, but nonetheless much appreciated the place, one came back with a much clear and refreshed mind. Thank you.
We were a group of 15 people with a diverse background. Everyone was happy and had a great time!
Very good use of space in chalet. Small extras such as Doom for insects (you are in the field) much appreciated. The private boma for braai is a very good extra. Will definitely go back again.
Beautiful resort where one can rest and relax.
Had a great stay, hope to visit again sooner.
Very clean, tidy and safe. Wonderful people!
See stars.
We enjoyed the giraffes and hot tub.
Was a pleasant experience.
Hannes was very helpful and went out of his way to help us with other things that he didn't need at all. The rooms are well laid out and very tidy, value for money, definitely!
A lovely room, super relaxing jacuzzi bath. Great friendly and helpful service. Complaints: The room is right next to parking which was full from 5am every morning with noisy hikers arriving and the pool was really dirty and badly maintained. We ended up going somewhere else during the day to find a pool elsewhere.
Absolutely no complaints. Wish we could have stayed another night or 2. Felt like a new person when we got home. Only suggestion I would make is to specify which DSTV package is there. We were there on the weekend of the Currie Cup final and were under the impression that we would be able to watch it there. But we will definitely come back again. Incredibly nice stay.
Only feel that the braai area at Cabin 1's stairs is too high and far from the cabin, we were two older ladies and struggled to get up and down the stairs with all our braai items, otherwise everything was very nice and comfortable.
Apartment is very neat.
It was very nice to break away to Out of Africa Lodge. We had a nice rest and the rondavels are nice and far from each other for privacy. Everything was at our disposal.
Everything very nice clean and tidy. The dishes are just OK, could be better.
The Bushbaby unit was clean and tidy with enough equipment, as well as barbecue equipment. There was a limited supply of coffee, so you have to bring it with you if you are going to make more than once. The couch was a bit vandalized and there are holes/marks in the wooden doors. The bath is nice and big and hot water was no problem. There is also a rustic-type outdoor shower and walking paths. The Springboks run everywhere and there is a small communal swimming pool. Really in a nice environment at a reasonable cost.
Was a very nice experience we had. In the beginning, the room was not right, but they accommodated us and quickly sorted it out. Workers there are very friendly and want to help out where they can. Will definitely make a visit there again.
I will definitely go there again, it's a very nice place and Pieter does a good job especially with customer service.
We couldn't find the giraffe but it's ok.
See stars.
Will definitely go there again.
The bed is uncomfortably hard and impossible to sleep on. The wildlife that is there is within private property. There is nothing to do. We checked out early and went home.
It was a lovely evening. The staff is absolutely amazing and helpful. The food was great and will definitely visit them again.
On Saturday there was a wedding and the guests parked us. The lock in the attic needs to be replaced as well as the pots. A broom will also help. The water leaked under the kitchen sink.
Was there on our honeymoon. We wanted to stay another night longer. Hannes and Pieter went out of their way to give us an extra night. The nicest people you can find. After the time we drove out to them again just to say hello and had lunch. I will be there every weekend if I can.
The Ndebele houses we stayed in did not have enough space to sit and eat. Even a plastic table would help. The hot water tap has no pressure, we had to wait an hour for a bath to drain and then the water was cold because it took so long to drain. Other than that, we had a great stay. Neat and clean. The people there are very friendly.
It was just what me and my hubby needed. The gate remote given to enter and leave on your own made all more private an felt at ease to leave if had an emergency, like kids. The bath/jacuzzi inside made me and hubby found our romantic side again. The atmosphere is so peaceful and silent. Space between other is enough and felt private and made our space our space our own quickly. It is clean inside and all needed is available, and I was sad to have the weekend come to an end. We must go again soon.
They can tell the guests what there is to do in Hartbeespoort and at Out of Africa Lodge, and that there is wildlife and the people can drive through the place to look. They could also just put up a photo of what the accommodation looks like outside so that people don't unexpectedly hear that you might be staying in a wooden house.
The owner went out of his way when we had problems with our geyser and arranged another chalet for us when it could not be repaired. We enjoyed our stay and would love to stay there again.
Unit was clean and tidy.
Unit 6 close to main road, lots of road noise (cars, trucks, motorbikes) late at night and very early in the morning. Trouble with Jacuzzi, water takes a long time to fill up. Why pay to do hiking?
Whole place very neglected, we stayed in Bushbaby self-catering unit. The back door got holes in it and swollen from rain. The plug in the bath leaks, can't stay in the bath for long. Asked reception for soap, they said they ran out so had no soap. No toilet roll for the second day so went to buy. The TV didn't work the first night. Place neglected won't recommend to anyone. Went there for our 39 wedding anniversary. Very disappointed.
Both times we have been there the front doors do not lock, so not closed to the effect we used blankets to keep cold air and the light out. Huge security risk knowing your door cannot lock from the inside it only has a small latch.
Very peaceful and nice. Positive feedback. Garden not very tidy around swimming pool and the lounge sofas were not clean. Smelled and looked like someone had vomited on them.
It was very nice. It was just a bit funny that we had to turn off the music at 8 o'clock and we weren't allowed to play music after 8.
We did not get the chalet that was advertised and that we paid for. Other guests played loud music and noise at the pool from Saturday morning until noon which deprived the tranquility of everything. There was brown filth flowing from the bath jets which was very sticky and therefore we could not use or enjoy it. Our chalet was still very nice and enjoyed it.
Receptionist doesn't know anything to do in the area.
Expected better service.
A very bad weekend. Ever since we got there the place was full of spiders and other bugs. I sprayed out 4 cans of Doom and still they were there. I didn't even sleep, too scared of the spiders. I wish they could give me my money back.
The door has spaces in between, no shower no table to dine. It was horrible.
Will definitely go back, especially to the tree house. Very upper class, up market and clean. Nature at it best.
Nature at its best I didn't want to leave.
Out of Africa is centrally located which facilitates visits to Cameleon Village, Pretville, French Toast, Jasmyn and other attractions. There are also several restaurants in the area and Brits Mall is a stone's throw away. The service was great and the Cabin well equipped for 2 people.
Great, rustige week gehad.
Was a very nice weekend to break away from the city and noise! Room was perfectly clean and well laid out and the spa bath made it even better! Little things we would personally recommend: 1. Window curtains or something so that privacy feels a little better, wooden windows would have been fine but you are looking for that 100% privacy so that no one can just look in, even the front door. 2. We were there one night, check-in times for weekend breaks maybe move to 12h00? We would have liked to walk through and explore the place a bit more and could do with an extra two hours. Other than that there was really nothing to complain about! Will definitely return again without a doubt!
Pieter and Hannes are great people and we will definitely go back
Lovely place for wedding anniversary.
We had a great stay, only the cabin we stayed in didn't have a roof over the braai area and there were a lot of bugs like spiders in our room. Otherwise it would have been a wonderful getaway.
The chalets were first and foremost clean and neat. We did not have to bring any cutlery, crockery or blankets. Everything we needed was there and housekeeping kept our chalets clean at all times. My family and I were very happy with our stay. The lighting at the pool area needs improvement. An awesome stay nonetheless :)
Loved the little things like the braai area which has table and chairs and outside light. The cave with bushman paintings, swimming pool, and the willingness to assist when asked. Cleanroom, spotless linen, and towels. Fridge, kettle, microwave. Hot water great. Suggest a shower curtain for the privacy of the cabin bathroom and towel pole to be tightened. Awesome stay.
The Treehouse we booked was neat and clean. It was nice and quiet with no noise. The pool is a bit far, and I would have liked a pool closer to the unit. But on top of that I would definitely recommend it if you want to enjoy a quiet weekend getaway.
The upper room's (loft room of Zebra) wooden floors cracked terribly and made noise, perhaps requiring little attention.
Hansie and Nadia are an excellent host and wife. Our visit was an absolute pleasure and will definitely go back again.
Out of Africa lodge is perfect for those who want to stay in great quality accommodation at very low rates. Customer service was excellent and the stay was amazing.
Place is safely located. Lots of wild life. Place is very clean and tidy. Would definitely recommend it.
Unfortunately, the Jacuzzi’s are not communal. But that is the only downside! I had a superb stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Facilities were spotless. Will be back without a doubt.
The Ndebele huts were well equipped and their Bush baby cabin. The connection to their DStv in the Ndebele huts was very bad, but everything else was in order.
I will defenitely tell all my friends about Out of Africa Lodge.
Was peaceful and ideal for a break away with my husband, very private minimal people who are there so you can really experience that silence
Have a nice time. Thank you very much
We had a good stay at Out of Africa Lodge. The Jacuzzi bath tub was a fun experience. Neat, staff very helpful and friendly.
Easy to find affordable
Beautiful location for our girl's trip. Close to restaurants and other activities. Had an awesome time. Spotted a few giraffes on our way in, which was a pleasant surprise. I would definitely recommend this lodge.
It was lovely, quiet and pleasant stay.
I was very impressed by the way they have accommodated us. Had an issue with my booking and they managed to sort that out with no hesitation.
The place is beautiful but the pool is too small than how it looks on their pictures. We had some electricity cut offs and owner took long to respond.
People make too much noise until 2 o'clock in the night, could not sleep at all.
It is located near the main road with traffic noise that spoiled the African Bushveld atmosphere.
Very peaceful environment and place is clean and tidy. Service is friendly.
Would just like to have hanging space for clothes. Customer service is great, especially with special requests. Every employee is friendly and goes out of their way to accommodate requests.
It is cheap compared to other places that have Jacuzzi. It was our 2nd time at Out of Africa and it certainly won't be the last time.
Very peaceful atmosphere and located very close to all the attractions. The unit itself was neat and had everything and more that one needs. The walking routes on site were very well marked and could be easily followed. The service is great and if you had a problem, the staff did their best to solve the problem.
Staff were very friendly. Would recommend it to people wanting to relax.
It was a very pleasant place and very nice would go back again anytime. Host was friendly and very helpful. I recommend the place to everyone.
Value for money. Calm atmosphere. Giraffes in front of your door early in the morning is a plus.
My husband and I decided to spend our first anniversary in Harties and a friend told us about Out of Africa Lodge. We really enjoyed our stay. The only thing we would have liked to have in our room was an aircon, it was so hot!
There were not enough knives and forks in the chalet. No salad bowls, meat bowls, pots or large pan/frying pan.
Out of Africa was very enjoyable for us as a family because you feel close to nature. Beautiful birdsong and other animals e.g. goats and giraffes. The cottages we stayed in could use a bit of renovation here and there, but we had a great stay. I would recommend their breakfast to everyone. Was delicious and value for money. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Visit Out of Africa and see for yourself.
Although there was a slip up and the receptionist checked another couple into our unit, it was sorted out immediately, and while we had to wait we received complimentary drinks. The Treehouse was everything and more than we expected. Will definitely go there again.
Out of Africa is centrally located close to all the attractions that the area has to offer. The farm is beautiful and there is a very nice walking trail on the farm during which one can admire the beautiful scenery in the area from closer. If you are a bird watcher, the farm is the perfect place, there is really a variety of bird species on the farm, even birds of prey. The place has a small swimming pool to cool off in, the restaurant is not really in operation, and the cutlery in the rondavel is a bit sketchy but otherwise everything is very neat. Cleaning services are included in the price which is a big bonus.
When we arrived we had very good and friendly service. We had a wonderful stay and breakfast was great! Thank you, Out of Africa. We will definitely stay with you again.
Our stay at Out Of Africa was pleasant. I would just like to suggest better provision for power failures. There was one candle in the family unit, but no lighter or matches. The one candle was also not sufficient light for a family home.
I read quite a few reviews before I booked the place and after the time realized that the people have not improved on those little things that people have already complained about. Like just putting in fresh coffee, sugar and milk the next morning as their cleaning. But I myself don't have many complaints and will definitely visit again!
Stayed nice, nice bedding, clean. Lighting a little dark, but lovely.
Nice place. Clean downstairs, but beams full of dust, lacks a stove, pots and more cutlery. If it rains you go to bed hungry, if it's hot you need a swimming pool. I think the price is a bit high for Tree House.
The website paint a beautiful picture of the facility, but from the arrival this picture changed quite quickly for us. The reception and "to-be" lounge are are not in use. The room has no windows, and although this is indicated on the website, one does not realise that there are only wooden panel in the place of windows, and with no aircon one cannot leave these open at all as anyone can then look into the unit. The bath had damage marks on it and was repaired really bad. On complaining about this, we were offered the Honeymoon Suite. It sounded great, unit we got to the unit. The wooden deck in front of the door was broken and one can step through the deck planks. These were no water. The ablutions are down stairs, with a room so big you can easily add a toilet on the first floor. We then ended up going back to the original unit. It is sad, but in my opinion the place looks run down and old. Would need some critical work to get this estate back to where it was 6 year ago when we last visited.
No room service. Guests do not feel very welcome. We had to go and buy coffee and milk etc. There was only provision for one day. Chalet also needs attention. Especially the wooden floors.
No activities for young people. The animals are a plus. The main road is close to the lodge, the vehicles are noisy at night.
We booked the Tree House hoping to have a relaxing evening but found that the jets in the bath are filthy and the bedside lamp had a short due to the power cable having a poor joint/connection in the cable. For the price we paid and what we got we will never go back to Out of Africa again.
Was a nice evening. The treehouse was worth it. Could sit outside and have a barbecue. It was quiet. Feel like you are away from hustle and bustle outside.
The service was very nice and they know how to welcome people. The place was very clean and neat.
Staff were very friendly and very helpful.
It's the perfect getaway from the city. It's very peaceful and private. Unit was very clean, tidy.
Would've loved to spent the whole weekend there, we had such an amazing time celebrating with my friends. I'll definitely be going back there.
Beautiful lodge! Very quiet and peaceful. Had a really nice stay.
My husband and I needed a weekend getaway and Out of Africa Lodge was the ideal place - it is so peaceful there and the people are very pleasant - we can also recommend their breakfast it was out of the books. Thank you very much for a wonderful break Out of Africa Lodge, we will definitely stay there again.
It's a great place and price is very cheap compared to other places that have Jacuzzi. We will definitely go to Out of Africa Lodge again, I can really recommend it. Their breakfast is very tasty and enough for R65. The unit is very nice and private.
Lovely bushland escape that was worth every penny. Will definitely stay there again. Fantastic to experience the giraffes at sunrise in front of our houses.
From the first moment we arrived to the moment we left, it was just friendly staff and great service. We felt welcome from the first moment we arrived. The chalet was fantastic and very well equipped. The Jaccuzi was a bonus.
We got good service, a delicious breakfast and will return again any time.
My girlfriend and I booked the tree house and it was fantastic. It was very quiet and isolated. Perfect for any couple wanting peace and quiet for a weekend. It is very clean and safe. The only complaint is the amount of coffee that was served (only 2 bags the whole weekend) and there were wine glasses but no corkscrew, but otherwise it was fantastic. Definitely value for money. Take my advice, take the breakfast they offer.
It was worth while. Unit needs some TLC like the power chords by the kettle and the wooden floors. Very neat and tranquil, perfect for a getaway and to relax. Jacuzzi is definitely a bonus.
Had a very nice stay. Would have liked to have coffee in the room.
It was very quiet, peaceful and tranquil. Slept well.
Cute place to rest, rooms were well appointed!
Good value for money, trouble with extra requests, clean and tidy, friendly staff.
Will definitely use Out of Africa Village again. If people want a romantic getaway, then Out of Africa Lodge is definitely the place. Hannes at reception is very professional and does an excellent job.
The people were friendly and hospitable. It's really a lovely, peaceful atmosphere.
Lovely venue, really enjoyed the nature walk, was awesome seeing the giraffe. Very close to the Hartbeespoort market and town, with lots to see and do.
Thank you, but have a look at basin plugs and plastic containers to warm things up in the microwave.
Beautiful treehouse located between the mountains. Relax in a deep bubble bath.
They advertise a restaurant and there is not, only for breakfast.
Was nice. Als was clean. Had to drive to go swimming and do something else.
The destination was not at all what was expected.
The chalets was well equipped and clean. However, the mattresses were worn out and had to sleep on the floor eventually. The chalets are also very hot, no air conditioners, would suggest to put netting in the windows and door to be able to keep it open during the evening.
No sink. Kettle black inside. Wooden floors holed and unstable. See through to lower unit.
Was very expensive for what we got. I think it was a beautiful place at one point, there is that touch missing. Everything is extremely cheap in the room, the cutlery was terrible. Will not visit again. Have stayed in better places for the price.
The Ndebele hut was not at all what we thought it would be. Windows and door don't close properly at all, and it was quite cold inside. No effective heater, middle of winter. The bedside lamps didn't work, and the bath was in terrible condition. Door lock is ineffective, and we did not feel safe at all. For 4 star accommodation I would really expect a bit more.
It cost R3 600 for 3 people for 2 nights. One of the reasons I chose this place was because it has a Jacuzzi. Only when we arrived, was it pointed out that only some of the chalets have a Jacuzzi. Mine was not one of them. You, not just the establishment, have to make sure that things like this are transparent and not hidden in the text! The stove is completely laughable. No oven and 1 hotplate for a 6 sleeper. It's a funny sunbeam with no instructions on how to use it, I needed to phone reception to get someone to explain how to switch it on. No outside furniture, although there's a huge braai area. I had to ask for chairs to be sent. The dining table/kitchen nook is bar height, but standard chairs are provided, basically you can't sit to eat at the table! The venue is lovely albeit a bit noisy from the outside road. The bedrooms and bathrooms are lovely and the linen was clean and new. I really don't think it was worth what I paid for.
Not kid friendly at all. Swimming pool the size of a fishpond. No lawn or playground. Ground thorns and stones. Very unkempt. Rondawel has no towel rails in the bathroom or by the bath. There are also no hangers on the rails. Furniture inside is very old and could be replaced. Boards in front of windows are really unsightly. Tree house is nice for overnight. This place has potential, it just needs to be exploited. However, I will not go there again.
The Jacuzzi had been fixed with fiberglass and painted over and looked creepy. Bedding clean and luxurious. Windows are wooden doors that open, no glass, so if it's very cold, you'll have to close windows and turn on lights for light. Braaier's grill was dirty and we had to ask for someone to come and clean it. Free breakfast on Sunday was very nice and a pleasant surprise. It doesn't help a place to put pictures of a Jacuzzi if all the Jacuzzis don't look like that. It was very creepy and the only place one could bathe in, so one had to use it.
Not good at all. The pictures look better than the lodge. Wouldn't recommend.
The pictures do not look like the lodge at all, we are very disappointed and did not enjoy our stay at all.
Excellent customer service.
Their pool needs to have chairs or bench next to it. Lee was friendly and helpful.
Great. We are here from New Zealand. We went back to NZ in 11 years. This was a nice place for a peaceful getaway.
Was very peaceful, just what the soul needs every now and then.
Kindly received. Chalets are tidy. Quiet, peaceful place.
We love the woodland and nature. Out of Africa was the ideal getaway we needed. It was quiet and peaceful, away from the city noise. I loved the layout of the Ndebele rondavel where we stayed. We had everything we needed. It was an awesome weekend. Will definitely go again.
Thank you so much. We had our first wedding anniversary at Out of Africa Lodge. The rooms were clean, restful and very safe and secure. We had a wonder romantic getaway exactly what we were looking for.
It was a very pleasant stay, enjoyed it very much. Was clean, they still have the room Saturday come service too. Thank you, very satisfied.
Good service and very friendly, beautiful area and very peaceful. Place is very thoroughly equipped. Place is centrally located. The only negative is the bed was uncomfortably hard, but otherwise good recommendation.
See star-rating.
Friendly reception. Rondawel very neat and comfortable. Hot tub in rondavel a hit. Constructive criticism: The TV in rondawel (Just wanted to watch rugby on Saturday night at 10pm), should be removed instead or binoculars should be provided to see it. (Dating from the previous decade). That Brakpan braai outside the rondavel, eish ... say no more.
Overall stay was good but chalets need upgrades.
The photos are misleading and looks much more attractive than it really is. Place definitely needs an upgrade. Bed wasn't very comfortable. Reception's window very dirty.
It's a tranquil area. Good for relaxation and body.
The living unit is spacious and easily accommodates 4 adults. The place is badly neglected. The master bedroom's mattress has been slept through. The place was painted but they just painted over the curtains and blinds. The shower is unfinished and broken. Outside gives general impression of sloppiness. The patio furniture is dilapidated and dirty.
The accommodation is a far cry from what they advertised. There is no shelter for vehicles. The beds are hard and don't have a proper base. The utensils are old, the microwave was ancient and didn't work most of the time. The place was a let down.
Other than that, everything else was good.
You don't advertise a service and then it doesn't exist. If we wanted a place to stay without a TV we would have booked such a place but my requirement was already television, but when we got there there was no service.
It was a great stay. I will definitely go back there. Great place and thank you for the great hospitality.
The hospitality with which we were received, the environment and our place of residence were very special. Thanks also to LekkeSlaap who made the booking hassle free.
See the stars.
Very central to explore Hartbeespoort and dam area There is so much to do and see Can recommend Out of Africa to just relax and rest.
Very central to explore Hartbeespoort and dam area There is so much to do and see Can recommend Out of Africa to just relax and rest.
I enjoyed my stay, its a beautiful place to relax and gather your thoughts, taking a walk and having a conversation with the giraffe was the best for me. Lee is such a good host, she made us feel welcomed. I am definitely going back with my friends.
Staff was very friendly. Felt very at home. Very good for that quiet getaway. Breakfast was delicious. Thank you guys! Definitely recommend the 'Couples Massage'.
Reception was professional, warm and homely. Very nice stay. Very close to dam wall, Cameleon village and more. Had a wonderful stay.
Very friendly service and host, rooms were neat and very comfortable.
It has a very relaxing vibe and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice quiet getaway.
We had a very warm welcoming to the guesthouse. They were very friendly. The only problem was the room we were booked in. The mattress is really worn out I woke up with my whole body sore from the springs that were protruding. Other than that it is a beautiful place. They just need to get new matresses for their beds.
We had an enjoyable stay. Breakfast was delicious.
We stayed in Penthouse and had the following problems: the ceiling fan didn't work and got small fan which didn't help much. The small fridge was far too small and there is no microwave oven. The coffee and tea are too little for each morning and on the last morning there was not even milk put out. However, the caretakers are very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was good - just a little bit and the same every day.
The confirmation showed 2 GPS coordinates which is confusing and which made us totally late with our time planning for a wedding. Accommodation was tidy but toilet leaked water.
Accommodation was neat and beautiful and very peaceful.
It was a great break - the refreshments (teas & coffees) were not enough- but then again I guess that is why its called self catering. All in all a good stay - will definitely come back. It was a very nice surprise to see the wildlife - we had a pair of giraffes visiting us and they spent about 15 minutes just outside our lodge - great photo moments!
We would have appreciated more privacy. Breakfast could also improve.
We stayed in the guesthouse with magical views on the terraced garden. Big rooms and very clean. The couple that runs the place are so friendly and enthousiastic. Would certainly recommend this place. Giraffes and zebras on the premisses. Simple, but good breakfast. Lovely pool. Home away from home!
Well packed breakfast packs, as we left early that next morning. This was only a stay-over. We however had one of the worst nights ever in a guesthouse due to the lack of a cooling fan, At least, it was tremendously hot in the room and consequently had to open the windows. The mosquitoes was plentiful. We could not sleep at all, especially from 10 pm onwards. I tried to look for a fan, but could not find one. Please make sure to place a fan in the guesthouse or room for your guests. Guests definitely does not want experiences like that and it was really disappointing for us. On the positive side: the rooms and guesthouse and location is great. Sometimes it is the smaller things like room maintenance, practical necessities (like a fan at least) and a special, nice breakfast that would put the “cherry on the cake” of a good guesthouse.
Don't think the rating is right. The breakfast is made ahead of time and then just reheated in the microwave oven. The portions for men and women are exactly the same. Although the unit is partially self-catering, there is no work surface. There was a room above us with a wooden floor and we could clearly hear every dear movement. There was no ice in the freezer and we had to drive quite a distance to go shopping.
We booked the penthouse. No air conditioning. Roof fan not working. Stand fan supplied with two-prong plug, but no "adapter" for the wall. Refrigerator cannot open properly and does not work adequately. Floorboards broken. "Skirting" falls off the wall. Toilet is open and exposed to the wall with no privacy. No, for R950 per night I've had much better. Lee did move us to the honeymoon suite. Much better, but still no air conditioning and no fan. Faucets do not all function. Sliding door's lock is gone.
No power plugs in the room to boil the kettle. No cold water in faucet at sink in bathroom. Beds old and shabby with lumps. Place needs attention.
Not full cooling and not value for money. Not at all happy with the customer service.
This is false advertising. I would never recommend Out of Africa to anyone. We had no idea we were going to be completely alone in the bush. There was a terrible storm and the tin roof was making a din. The toilet was leaking. We had to request a second fan. One of the single beds was coming apart. Due to the severe storm my two kids (18 and 13) ended up sharing our double bed. Ants were everywhere, we had to get supper twice. The female (Lee) who is in charge is not friendly at all neither is she very helpful. After my husband phoned her and complained she did not even offer alternative accommodation and yet she knew our second night's paid accommodation was going to be forfeited as we informed her we could not stay the second night. This was supposed to be a Christmas gift to our children. We all had been through a very stressful two years. This was our first overnight stay. Next time I will think twice because my home is so comfortable. I would never recommend Out of Africa to anyone.
We got a terrible room with no balcony. Room didn't even lock properly. The breakfast was also horrible.
The silence of the forest is wonderful. The room is not the same as advertised (for the price). No air conditioners or fans, moving from one room to another due to a room above us with wooden floors. Every movement, conversation, sound, something falling was heard so clearly that we couldn't sleep! The interior of the rooms is definitely not worth the price. The electricity box is not hidden, the lights do not have screens on them, breakfast is created in advance in plates and as guests arrive it is heated in the microwave. So the toast is rock hard and tough!
The people are unfit and the rooms are full of fleas. My legs were full of flea bite marks. There were no fans or air coolers. The fan that was in our room tripped everyone's power.
The place was not what we expected at all. The entrance road to the reception area is bad, not all of us drive 4x4's. The pool was green and there were no activities on site at all, we specifically asked beforehand if there were and was told there's lots to do. There was no airconditioning or proper fans and the place is hot as hell. There is no proper parking at the cottage. It is definitely not value for money. We did not even stay 2 hours, would not recommend this place to anyone that wants to have a good holiday.
Upon our arrival we noticed that there were people at the pool using alcohol. People from the same group were also later spotted driving around the premises in a white Opel Corsa van while consuming alcohol. We noticed that the people at the pool were under the influence and as a result we were not comfortable taking our children to the pool area. So we didn't get any benefit from the pool and surrounding area. It was very hot. Neither of the two rooms we were allocated had a working air conditioner or fan. We had to drive to Hartebeespoort and buy one. One of the two rooms we stayed in had a very small fridge. The door of the small fridge is bent and it is leaking water on the floor. There was no control from Out of Africa Guesthouse management over the guests. The same group of people we mentioned above occupied the pool area late into the night, all the while consuming large volumes of alcohol. My wife and I slept in the "Honeymoon suite", which was located in the main complex near the pool area. We hardly slept. There was a party all night until sunrise the next morning. There were what looked to us like communal bathrooms in the main building. Some of the guests use these bathrooms without closing the door. On Christmas morning we got up and got ready for breakfast which would start at 9am. We walked into the lounge area, which was located right next to the dining area, around 8:45 AM to wait for breakfast. We couldn't sit anywhere as there were some of the other guests who had spent the night on the lounge sofas and were still lying there sleeping. There was no sign of the management anywhere and there was also no one at the reception so that one could report it. We noticed that the table was not prepared for breakfast and there were no staff present in the kitchen. There were only guests present. There was also no electricity. So my wife couldn't take care of her hair either. We find it hard to believe that a guest house does not have a generator as we all know in South Africa that we deal with load shedding and power outages on a regular basis. As a result of the above points, the situation at Out of Africa guest house became unbearable for us and we decided to return home. We loaded our luggage into our car and could not hand in the keys at reception as there was still no one present there. A man who introduced himself as Sterling walked up and asked if we needed anything. We told him that we wanted to leave the place and he took the keys from us. We don't know if he works on the premises, but he didn't ask at all why we wanted to leave the place, nor about our well-being. We are not at all happy with the service we received at Out of Africa Guest House.
I would use Moeple Tree again as a weekend getaway with my family or friends. Will stay in the guest house and invite all my friends to come visit me for a nice weekend away!
We would just like to know which part of house is permissible and which is not. A small fridge in room or access to kitchen would have been great.
The people were very friendly and the suite was very clean and comfortable. When we experienced a problem, the owner immediately focused on it and sorted it out in no time. The breakfast was also delicious!
Peaceful and relaxing. Only disappointment was that the pool was not working.
See the stars below.
I was a bit disappointed with the toilet facilities as the water bowl for flushing did not fill up after use and we had to use a 375ml bottle to fill it up so the chain could flush. Otherwise, the stay was pleasant and the place very clean and tidy. There was also no communication from the reception about what time breakfast was the next morning, with the result that we missed it.
A beautiful area, but driving around you feel unsafe with all the vendors looking into your car to see what's there. The water in the taps was very green and undrinkable. The room was clean and the view beautiful.
The bathroom is old with no shower. The breakfast is ONLY available at 9:00, otherwise you are simply missing out.
