We offer comfortable, private accommodation in four wooden lodges (Hoopoe, King Fisher, Loerie, and Fish Eagle). The 2 lodges are situated up on the mountainside and 2 lodges are built on a tranquil stocked dam. Each lodge consists of 2 separate bedrooms - a main bedroom en-suite and a twin room with its own family bathroom. The double sofa in the lounge can also be converted in a double bed, giving maximum occupancy for 6 people. Fully equipped with cotton linen, towels, kitchen utensils, outside braai (barbeque) facilities and private decks. For those cool winter nights we have ceramic wood burning fireplaces.
Bain's Cottage offers a historic, restored Cottage with all the charm of the Victorian age, including massive fire place. However, please note this cottage offers communal sleeping/living area only. It is ideal for couples, small groups or families who are comfortable with sharing sleeping quarters.
There are 4 spacious Indian teepee tents make up our wonderful Camp Gwaai, nestled in a pecan tree forest. The camp is ideal for individuals, couples, families & small or large groups. The camp facilities are communal creating the environment for individuals to interact and socialise. The tents are situated some distance away from the entertainment area and are well spaced for maximum privacy. There are four 3/4 beds in each tent.
There is no television, telephone or mobile reception in our valley - which makes it perfect for enjoying the bright stars and the silence of the farm. Please also note that the main access road the Prince Alfred's Pass and all other access roads to the farm are actually gravel roads.
Please remember: de Vlugt has no petrol, bank or credit card facilities, so fill up your tank and your wallets before you arrive. We grow most of our own produce and support local farmers. We cater for groups by arrangement only.

36 guests' feedbackWonderful place for escape! Very neat, boiling water and the most beautiful views. The farm kid paddock down the road is perfect for a coffee and breakfast.
The cabins were spotless and Ingo was extremely helpful. If you are looking for a place to stay on Prince Alfred pass, I can highly recommend the place.
A nice escape from the hustle and bustle - peaceful and tranquil.
An awesome place for people who want to be in the quiet of nature and its surrounds. The rondawel we stayed in was quaint and just what we liked. The lapa/kitchen had everything we needed and more. The rocket stove for hot water, including in the showers, is a wonderful idea for instant hot water. We really enjoyed our stay.
See stars.
The little house in the valley is quite quaint. We enjoyed the stay and the peace and quiet. The signage still says Outeniqua Trout Lodge, so we drove past and arrived a little later than expected, clearly causing an inconvenience for the owners. We felt very safe, even though we arrived in the dark. Little attention to detail such as coffee, sugar, tea, milk, salt, and pepper would be great. You also need to know how a gas geyser works as we could not get it going and only had cold water available. This place is perfect for a bigger family with plenty of open space. Bring your own wood, as the place has the most amazing fireplace inside, but no wood provided (not sure if you are allowed to use it). We loved the historical significance the cottage had to offer.
The unit was well located, neat and clean, but had no microwave or grilling equipment (grilling tongs and casserole), which was a disappointment.
Nature and surroundings beautiful. The house is very rustic but needs improvements. The price is a bit high for the type of accommodation.
What a pleasant experience! The unit (Kingfisher) is excellently equipped and also extremely neat and clean. The scenery is absolutely unsurpassed, especially the view from our balcony was breathtaking. We stayed 2 nights which is definitely too little, next time we will stay much longer to explore the surroundings better. Many thanks to the extremely helpful and interesting host, Ingo!
Hosts were accommodating and made sure our stay was comfortable. Everything one can ask for, will be back to spend time again.
Two friends who were traveling with us camped at Outeniqua Mountain Lodge and we stayed in a chalet there. We wanted to hang out and eat on our excellently equipped chalet's balcony (with a nice view) and the owner gladly allowed it.
Very peaceful and beautiful views, nice well-maintained lodges.
For our purpose the location was good. Nice view on pass. Would have liked to stay longer. If you want to do the Prince Alfred pass we can recommend Outeniqua Mountain Lodge.
You walk out in the morning and the horses surround you. Mosquitoes eat you and no wifi. Still great place to visit. They did ask me R50 extra, but I asked for it back on the last day and they gave it back to me.
Definitely worth the gravel road drive and loss of signal. We made it up there in an Audi A3 and spent a few nights here. The management were super helpful and friendly. Do the river walk and walk up the river to the highest point where you swim in the pools. Keep going until you think you can't go further, find a way up. There are hidden gems in the mountains filled with nature. You won't be disappointed. We'd love to come back in the near future.
A true piece of paradise. A beautiful mountain retreat.
It's far from civilization and if you don't mind driving a little far then this is your destination.
Great swimming pools, hiking trails. You can do a lot or absolutely nothing!
Give terrain warning.
I would recommend the lodge anytime.
We had a fabulous four night stay and we highly recommend the Outeniqua Trout Lodge. The hospitality by the owners was excellent, very friendly and included much story-telling! The beauty of the park, the fauna and flora, the night time tree frogs, the free-range bontebok and horses, and the interesting walks and drives all contributed to our enjoyable stay. The accommodation was perfect with a huge deck overlooking a great view. Be sure to visit the Info Centre to learn more about the history of the area. From PE we took the Wittedrif/Uniondale turn off just after Keurbooms River near Plett. This provides a scenic drive through the mountains and the entrance to the Prince Alfred's Pass. For our route home we backtracked in an easterly direction and then took the Knysna turn-off at the junction/cross-road in the middle of the mountains. It is clearly marked and cannot be missed. Be sure to take a drive through the Prince Alfred's pass through to Uniondale and to visit the Padstal just outside the Outeniqua Trout Lodge.
The dirt road is nice to the lodge from Plet's side. Lovely owners. Bains has a lovely porch and is quiet and peaceful.
My wife and I found Outeniqua Trout Lodge simply stunning. The lodge is exactly what was advertised and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed at the lodge for 6 nights and experienced true peace and quiet with friendly hosts that are there to help or make sure that your stay is comfortable. My wife and I can recommend the trout lodge without any hesitation.
De Vlugt is a very interesting place and Outeniqua Trout Lodge makes it even more special since the accommodation was excellent. The chalets are very well equipped, very clean and the view is stunning.
The Indian tents are neat, but the small entrance opening of the tents makes them very inconvenient and inaccessible! Just inform holidaymakers properly in advance that there is no electricity and that you can arrive there prepared! At the common lapa, more braai places can be installed, as 4 tents have to share one braai - so you have to wait your turn to braai! Also make sure that the holidaymaker knows that there are no card facilities and that the bill must be paid in advance, as there is no mobile reception.
What an experience to live with nature like this. Will definitely come here again!
It's ideal for people looking for something different. The location between the mountains is unique. The silence, safety and seclusion make it special. The accommodation is neat and well equipped.
Beautiful scenery! My daughter didn't even miss her tablet/TV or cell phone! Unfortunately the weather didn't allow us to swim but we walked the area flat! Cabins are fully equipped, a home away from home! I would recommend them anytime.
It is an incredibly beautiful location. The tranquility envelops you and you can completely switch off. Big plus point that there is no technology working and there is no TV. You are dependent on yourself and your people!
This place is absolutely ideal and well equipped. We will definitely go to Outeniqua Trout Lodge again to recharge batteries.
The dirt road to the lodge was excellent. Some places drove like a tarmac. The house was equipped with everything and very tidy. We had a wonderful rest and saw many birds. Glad to see that nature is being worked well with. Lovely walk in the woods. Would definitely recommend the lodge. When we get the opportunity again, we will definitely visit there again.
We found the stay of 5 nights refreshing and uplifting. The accommodation and facilities were excellent. If we were aware of the excellent cooling facilities, our shopping list would have looked forward to others.
The wooden houses are very neat and the view from the houses is very beautiful. The route after you turn off the Van Stadenspass to the cottages is not for an ordinary car, but rather for a bakkie or four-wheel drive vehicle, my car dragged on its chassis in places. The road over the river to the reception is also lined with stones and almost impassable with a normal car. There was also no trout available as advertised, because apparently it is out of season, on the contrary, no food is served!
Offering more than what we expected. Incredible value for money! Simple but with all the essentials. Wonderfully tranquility. Very good host; supplying what we needed without being intrusive.
A fantastic stay - very nice.
