38 guests' feedbackIt was a very special experience, beautiful place and outstanding staff who are 'amazing'. Will definitely want to go back again.
Beautiful nature around.
Friendly service and beautiful place.
A little gem just outside Port Elizabeth, great for a quick getaway. The suites are clean and comfy. The fireplace works amazingly. There are stacks of game to see right from your door. The camp area also looks great for bigger groups. The meals at the restaurant were very very good.
Nicolene really spoiled us with the most delicious breakfast every morning. It was a real getaway with a great rest. Each room had its own bathroom, actually a bath hall. Would definitely recommend the place.
Hubby and I booked a night away for New Year's Eve, just to have a time-out from kids and visitors. We arrived, had a swift check-in and went straight to our Honeymoon suite. We were happy to find a fridge now in the room (it wasn't listed on their website) as we had some ice to keep in the little freezer to enjoy a few glasses of whisky on the stoep. Thanks to the welcoming bottle of bubbly and treats! The restaurant closed at 14h00, but we were advised of this before arrival, so we brought our own snacks along. They also allowed us to check in an hour early so we could order takeaways if we wanted to from the restaurant on site. The room was spotless and had everything we needed. The view out of the huge sliding door and windows is beautiful and just draws you out into the surrounding bush and grass. We could see some ostriches and small buck grazing below. It rained through the night and we were wonderfully cozy on our king-size bed, being lazy and watching series on the free WiFi. I would only recommend that they have firelighters and matches alongside the fireplace should somebody wish to use it when it is colder. The next morning we had our included breakfast at the restaurant (R100 allowance per person) - we couldn't even finish it as it was very filling! We then took a drive through the fynbos valley to the viewpoint at the end - beautiful and plenty of bokkies around! All in all, a wonderful stay!
Pabala Private Nature Reserve is a beautiful place with amazing views. First off, the place was not perfectly clean. We had to wash any kitchen items we used, especially cutlery, even items taken out of the cupboards. Secondly, we had problems using water as they only use Jojo tanks and their pump was faulty. Taking a shower was frustrating. My husband was shown by their staff how to manually switch the pump on when it switched off, which happened every 2 minutes. There was also a pipe leaking under the kitchen sink. They did offer us free breakfast and a small game drive to compensate for our bad experience.
Definitely want to go back and stay for longer. We also met amazing people during our stay and the restaurant at the top is absolutely awesome, with nice food. The Pabala staff and owner are very friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay there.
The weekend was absolutely wonderful. Most beautiful scenery and the unit was very comfortable. The restaurant on site had terrific food and service. Overall a fantastic getaway.
Thank you very much Nadine and staff for the excellent service you provided. Keep up your good service Nadine it was really appreciated. Will definitely camp with you again. Greetings Lance.
I would like to suggest that the step down into the kitchen be clearly marked.
Lovely peaceful place.
Place is ideal for families with young children. You don't need to take anything with you, the lapa is fully equipped. Children could play and run around safely and we could watch them from the lapa. Saw many goats from the lapa. Dirt road is not suitable for a very low vehicle. Restaurant on site was great. Good value for money. Children really enjoyed the bunnies, chickens and peacocks at the playground.
The first and biggest gripe is that the camping sites are not level. This resulted in our very heavy camping trailer (Jurgens XT 160) running away out of control from my husband, hitting a tree and only narrowly avoiding careering down the hill, as there was a bit of a mound at the edge of the campsites which stopped the trailer. However the damage to our trailer amounted to just under R2000, so this was rather upsetting. Not to mention that my husband had to return to PE to buy a new jockey wheel for the trailer without which we would not have been able to return home. We also felt that to charge R350 for a self drive game drive around the farm is a bit steep. We are used to camping on farms where one can drive around and see the game for nothing.
We had a nice stay at the Klipkothuis. Everything one needs, right down to matches and fire lighters. Beautiful view of the mountains. Also close to the road if you want or need to drive somewhere.
It was peaceful and the children really enjoyed it.
The bathrooms are wonderfully large too. Just be aware the house is 20 km away from the main camp.
Nice view. Breakfast very good. Rooms very spacious.
The cottage is perfect and the farm atmosphere is there. Exactly what we where looking for. The game drive expenses were the full price for children and are a bit too much, but worth it! We loved the nights outside and the fire wood is top of the range.
Enjoyed the peaceful and calm atmosphere.
Enjoyed being in a location so scenic from every angle. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Especially NJ who took us on on a 4x4 drive of note. Tents were comfortable. Kitchen well equipped and ablutions ok.
We had a great time. Unfortunately there was no hot water.
Please tell me how do the bikers get there with their bikes? I want to come and have breakfast but don't have a 4x4.
The stay at the cottage was lovely. Very secluded which gives you that morning coffee and silent thoughts opportunity! The road to the cottage is a quite a long strip of unkept gravel so low riding cars will have an issue getting here, but if you can manage the road, the stay is very worth it! NK (the game ranger) was very accommodating and was on the scene whenever needed.
We enjoyed our stay and the beautiful view, quietness of nature. Made bonfires every evening and watched the stars.
We were preparing for a camp outing, but we got the full glamping outing. Lovely getaway, just around the corner from the city.
Warm welcome, everything neat and comfortable. The scenery is awesome. I highly recommend the rides. Milla, the meerkat steals hearts.
We all liked the location of the place and found no fault with the reservation at all. However, on night 2 there was no water. I called the number provided and a young lady came to sort out the problem. What all felt insulted by being told that we used all the water up after showering. She then told us we would not have any water until the following day. That meant no shower, toilet or water in the kitchen. This was totally unacceptable. We then got told to go shower at the camping area some kilometers away. Surely paying in advance for this reservation the whole water situation should have been sorted before we got there.
We had a wonderful stay at the Farm house in Pabala Game Farm. The views over the mountains were incredible, with an array of wildlife right on our door step. The staff were friendly and accommodating, taking care to ensure our stay was perfect.
It was excellent and everyone was so friendly. Thank you very much for a nice weekend.
If you want to escape the city rush, this is the place! The tranquility, nature, views and service were excellent. This is a very special gem that we discovered. They will definitely see us again soon!
Big surprise. Home from home. Will definitely go there again.
Excellent stay. However quality of road to campsite is challenging with a sedan car with a trailer.
We will definitely stay at Pabala Game Farm again. The shortest old vacation, but packed with tranquility.
Quiet and very close to nature. Ablution facilities were clean and tidy, could have just had a little more space.
It had been a wonderful stay for us, just a shame it was so short. Ben was very helpful and friendly and was always there for us. Thanks Ben. The Farmyard cottage we lived in had everything we needed. I couldn't believe it when I saw that the wild goats were just grazing between the tents. Wonderful. In the evening you could hear nothing but the silence and the evening sounds. It is a pity that there is no mention on the website that there is a swimming pool. We didn't pack any swimwear. Would also have been a problem if we had booked the tents because the road down to the camping place is terribly bad and will definitely need to be upgraded. We will definitely come again and book the tents this time.
The host is a little absent. No instructions for service of unit. Difficult to get in, had to call them every time. Promised us a little printer but never got it.
I was surprised how much I missed technology on the first night, but after a lovely night's rest this feeling was completely forgotten. Breakfast is served on the patio with the whole valley, koppie and mountains surrounding you. You can feel the stress leaving your feet like water. Next time I will be sure to pack binoculars. The peacock and striped field mouse came to say good morning. Common and silver guineafowl and a host of different bird sounds greets you in the morning. Braai facilities and game viewing opportunities are available. We took the sunset game ride and it was wonderful. The owner, Wernich, is very friendly and has great plans for the farm. The stars was a feast without any light pollution, except for a fire burning in the distance. It looked like diamonds on black satin. The unit is well equipped with everything you might need. There are beautiful tents for those who enjoy "glamping". My next choice I think. I believe children and their parents will also enjoy it as they offer a nice balance of being close to nature and a comfortable place to stay. All in all, we will definitely be back and we have already recommended them to some friends.
