We had a wonderful stay at Lynette's place. The guest house's rooms are beautiful and unique in their decor. Lynette was a wonderful hostess and the breakfast was delicious!

It was lovely, the single bed in the room was a bit lumpy, but for only a short stay it didn't bother me at all. The Aunt's kindness and extra effort made up for it.

On arrival, Lynette gave us a warm welcome to your home. She went out of her way all the time to ensure that we felt at home and her place and decor are fantastic, very nicely done and tidy too. She and Buddy are the best hosts we have ever met and will definitely go there again if we are in Kimberley. She accommodated us also with extra accommodation for my little brother and we spent a very nice time there with her.
We travelled from Gauteng back to Cape Town and overnight at this warm and friendly guest house, what lovely people, can definitely recommend there place, price is reasonable and your vehicle is save. We will definitely stay there again.
We only arrived late, that was no problem for the owners. Very hospitable, felt like being at my own home, everything was open for us to use, will definitely highly recommend it to other travellers. Felt safe. Owner offered us delicious cooldrink on arrival (after 10 at night) so yes, highly recommendable.
Barries went the proverbial extra mile to welcome me and make sure I was looked after as a pensioner. My accommodation was comfortable, like a home away from home, and will recommend it to any traveler who needs a good night's sleep. Safe parking and comfortable bed.
Accommodation is spacious and very neat. Air-con in the room with DStv, owner very involved with Paljas and Kandas. It makes it very pleasant. Nothing is too much trouble. Nice garden with a swimming pool. Parking is outside but it seems to be very safe and the street is very quiet.

Affordable accommodation in a safe area.
Upon arrival at Paljas & Kandas the hostess, Mrs Linette Pieterse, didn't have our booking. This despite the fact that the last confirmation by Zenobia was done on 29 July. My original booking was for 2 family rooms with en-suite bathrooms. What we eventually got was 2 economic rooms and a bathroom on the other side of the passage that we had to share. I don't have a problem to share the bathroom with the rest of my family - but we realised that it is a public bathroom for everyone upstairs - including guests of the ground floor who make use of the dining hall. When I asked Mrs Pieterse about the person in the bathroom on the morning of 6 January she chased him out. There was no space to hang our towels in the economic room and no carpets in front of the beds. The rooms are full of "romantic" things that makes the space overcrowded. The TV in the rooms were old and not very effective because we hoped to make use of the communal TV in the lounge. The two carpets in this room was probably cleaned about 10 years ago. I haven't seen such a dirty carpet in a while. We payed R50 per person for breakfast and for this amount we didn't have any options. The breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs with sausages, bacon, mushrooms and chilli with a dry roll. We weren't asked if we eat it, if we want it or something like that. I don't eat bacon, sausage or chilli at all and my daughter and I don't eat scrambled eggs on bread. The sauce bottles on the table was very dirty. I don't think it would be so much trouble to wipe these bottles with a wet cloth once in a while. The staircase needs a proper rail.
There were hairs on the pillows from previous guests. Owners come in at 12 o'clock in the evening, kick out their staff right in front of the room and feed their dogs with great noise right in front of our room at midnight! We had to travel back to JHB with insufficient sleep. Very noisy place and vehicles are not safe because there are no fences in front.
Thank you Lynette, it was our first time in Kimberley and Paljas and Kandas made us feel very much at home. For people who like lots of fireplace frills and character, this is a very cute guest house. Felt like we were staying with a family.

I can recommend Paljas and Kandas to anyone! The breakfast is out of the books, we ate like kings, and we were taken around the whole house to tell us the story of every room in the house. Our visit was fantastic, and we felt at home and at ease straight away.

I was not impressed with Paljas and Kandas. There are 6 rooms and 1 bathroom, and only fans in the bedrooms. The people were very friendly. I would not want to stay there again.
The single garage that has been converted into a room with shower and toilet (without door) also in the room is nowhere to be seen in the photos. The dogs chew bones and meat on the mat right in front of the room door that you have to climb over. The room is cold and right next to the social area and bar and you hear every sound. It is not suitable for small children and babies - large dogs that just come into the room and smoke that comes in from outside when people smoke. I will keep my comments on the style of the bedding and finishes to myself as tastes vary. We moved out after one night and forfeited our deposit because we didn't see a chance of sleeping there again. I can't put my baby down there because the dogs are a problem and I myself stepped in a screw on the floor. Previous guests' items they left behind are in the closet (aftershave, papers, etc.). It is also good to know that this is like an outside room to the owners' house and they themselves live there too. You feel like you are staying with people and have their animals and everything in your space. We will definitely not be visiting again!

The guest house is located in a quiet area close to tourist attractions and business center. The spacious rooms and quiet atmosphere make you relax from the moment you walk in. Lynette is a beautiful hostess, and prepared the most delicious breakfast for us.

We are satisfied with the place and the owner is very helpful and offer an excellent breakfast. The house is neat and full of beautiful old furniture and at night a guard looks after the place. One must, however, take note that the owner is a dog lover and one must not be afraid of the dogs in the backyard.
We were immediately welcomed and made to feel at home. Good security throughout the night which was important to us because you don't want to unpack your whole vehicle if you're just staying overnight in a place.

Facilities were pleasant and comfy with fabulous air con. Lynette was friendly and helpful and willing to assist in anyway! Good value for money. I think that a little more attention to general upkeep and cleanliness would go a long way to improving the overall impression. Although we felt very welcome and appreciated their attention to us, we are quite private people so would have appreciated being left to do our own thing in our own space but I do understand that most other people would love to have their hosts join them for a chat etc - we were just not in that kind of space that evening!
Lynette and Barries, thank you very much for the good service for me and my family who were able to get away from Lichtenburg for the first time in years. It was worth it to be able to spend the night with you and enjoy Kimberley's hospitality. Paljas & Kandas is a nice place to sleep over; it feels like the place belongs to you. The dogs are so well mannered; i wish my dogs were like that. Keep the place as it is and good luck with the changes.

Beautiful place with beautiful antiques, especially for me who loves History it was a very pleasant place. The fact that there was a kitchen, dining room & living room at our disposal was very special as few guest houses have such facilities. We were personally received by the owners and treated very kindly

This was a home from home. There are 5 rooms upstairs in the house and the owners live downstairs. The owners were extremely friendly, shared some of her freshly baked bread with us and was very hospitable. The linen was of very good quality, HUGE bath sheets, and best of all a feather duvet. I slept so well. We had a good breakfast. I would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting a friendly B + B and very good service.

We overnighted at Paljas and Kandas enroute to Johannesburg from Cape Town. We received friendly and efficient service and were served a delicious meal upon request. It was great to relax and have a good rest before the final stretch of our journey the next day. It was like visiting with friends.
