The food, which we chose, was delicious bobotie with vegetables and dessert with the freshly baked bread and farm butter with thick home-made apricot jam, which for me put the crown on the meal. We also had a great time with Melanè, our hostess; it reminded me of gatherings around the table after dinner from my (much) younger days on the farm. Thank you, we hope to see you again.
What a wonderful place! The hospitality of Meloné was exceptional, it felt like we were visiting old friends. The farm is lovely and peaceful, and the silence will do any city dweller good! The cottage is well equipped, with lovely, comfortable beds and top quality linen. Fresh farm milk and home-baked biscuits were a very welcome bonus! We will definitely stay here again when we hit the long road.

Lovely stay at Plaastoe Gastehuis, there was plenty of private space for our family. The rooms had lots of personal touches that made the stay very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the complimentary homemade lemonade, a wonderful surprise and most welcome on a hot day. Meloné was a wonderful host.
Melonie is a wonderful host. It was a great experience on the farm. It's a real farm with geese, chickens, baby lambs and two horses. The kids swam and fed the little lambs and explored. Don't leave unless you've tasted Melonie's delectable venison pie and homemade bread. We enjoyed a feast with venison pie, salad, vegetables, homemade bread and baked dessert. Her homemade rusks are a winner too. I highly recommend this guesthouse. Super comfortable beds and hotel quality percale bed linen always do it for me. It's comfortable and spacious with details reminiscent of a bygone era in farmstead homes. We'll definitely visit again.
Special farm, so beautiful and peaceful. Meloné is an exceptional hostess who goes out of her way, and she is the best cook. My only suggestion would be to consider a dish with a faucet or a small sink as a kitchenette to wash baby bottles and cups, but we would definitely stay here again. Thank you from the accommodation for sharing your farm with our city lads.

What a wonderful experience! The hosts are exceptional people and went out of their way to make us feel at home and made a lot of effort for the children to enjoy it. What a nice time on the farm for us city lads. The children had too much fun playing in the furrows and farm pond. The animals were all greeted and it was nice to see how the lambs were fed. The children had a great time with their friends. The homemade, ice-cold lemonade waiting in the fridge made all the stress of the long drive melt away. The delicious fresh-from-the-farm dinner not only magically soothes hunger, but also feeds our souls.

Plaastoe is beautiful farm accommodation. There are two rooms but room for 6 guests. Everything is very nice. The dinner was out of the books and we were treated to delicious farm food. We could really rest and catch our breath after the long drive from Cape Town. I would recommend it for sure. We had a lovely reception and Meloné showed us around the farm a bit before we left again. I think a family with smaller children will enjoy it, because there is a lot of play and running around place after the long sitting.

It was a unique experience that exceeded expectations. The accommodation is very traditional, but clean, tidy and comfortable. Feels like visiting family on the farm. Our children had a wonderful time playing with their children on the farm and completely forgot about the long road that was behind them. Next time I would just like to arrive earlier so that children can experience more of the farm life. A delicious, genuine plate of cooked country food that would make your grandmother jealous. It's a little out of the way, but worth it.

This has probably been one of the best overnight stays we have ever had on a long trip. We were able to relax and the hosts were amazing. We had our dinner at the guesthouse and all I can say is wow. Every single detail was perfect, the rooms, the farm experience, the friendliness.
Upon our arrival, Melone warmly welcomed us and we immediately felt at home. It was so nice for us to exchange the hustle and bustle of the city for a night on the farm and slept very well. We will stay there again if we are in the area.

Great stay. They have a bath and are very family/child orientated. Great renovated pool to relax in after a drive, dogs to keep you busy and entertained; a full farm experience with cattle, fruit trees, large lawns. The furniture is authentic farm style. Homemade rusks and biltong to enjoy as well. Mel is a great host.
We had a great time at Plaastoe Gastehuis on the way to George. It is about 15 km from Gariep itself, but the road is very good. The rooms were well appointed and very clean. There is a double bed and bunk beds in the master bedroom and two more single beds (one in a separate room) - so ideal for a family. There is a nice farm pond for the children to swim in. We ordered the dinner and the food was incredibly delicious with homemade bread and jam and meat and vegetables, salad and dessert. We may have eaten too much! Was a really lovely start to the holidays!
We were hospitably received by Meloné. Was able to walk around sheep farm and enjoy sunset. Delicious game pie, freshly baked farm bread, farm vegetables and date pudding - great treat!
Very friendly welcome and found everything that was needed. Meloné served a top-class dinner, real peasant food, cozy in the dining room next to her kitchen! The road there is easy if you remember to follow the route to Bethulie via R701.

We immediately felt welcome. Our children quickly made friends with the owners' two children and soon had fun playing together. The stay was like a home away from home. The hostess saw to it that there were delicious biscuits and freshly baked Christmas cookies with the provided coffee, tea and sugar. Nice farm milk and lemon syrup rounded it off. It's very nice because the road is long and the town a bit far to have to wonder where to get milk for that nice cup of coffee. We were able to go for a walk in the field and were free to move around and appreciate the beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed a very pleasant dinner of pudding at the large kitchen table. It's a beautiful world, it does your humanity so well.
Not far from the N1 is this very peaceful farmhouse. Friendly reception from Melone who shows you the comfortable rooms and then asks you what time you want to have dinner (she called us earlier in the day and asked if we wanted some). The bobotie was delicious and the freshly baked farm bread was top notch. I can definitely recommend Plaastoe Gastehuis and can't wait to spend the night there again.

Dirk and Meloné were caring, gracious hosts. The accommodation is gloriously historic, larger than anticipated and most comfortable. If you don't order dinner, you will miss out on the most delicious South African culinary experience ever. Meloné is an amazing chef. Even little Pieter and Markie brightened up our stay with them. A word of advice - get there hungry!
