72 guests' feedbackIncredible views and so peaceful. We will be back soon.
Fantastic peaceful weekend!
Just beautiful. Simple but everything you'd need for a break from the everyday. Would just recommend taking along some additional warm lighting, maybe even some cute candles.
South Africa's Alps with wooden houses. Like Heidi felt in the mountains. Special natural beauty.
Words cannot describe how beautiful it is there. We will definitely go again.
We had a great stay, a much-needed escape from the city. The accommodation itself is really nice with comfortable beds and couches, and a great little indoor fireplace. The dam, however, was very low (3m out of 12m) and I understand that it is the end of summer, but it was a little disappointing to be on the edge of a pit with some water at the bottom, which also acts as an echo chamber so you can clearly hear the conversations of the other cabins. Also, I am an avid fisherman and the dam could use a restock on bass and carp if they want to advertise the fishing. We also did the hike up to the waterfall. Very physically demanding, but a nice hike. The trail is in much need of maintenance though. It's very easy to get lost and quite a bit of bushwhacking was needed; the recent storm might have affected things. We would love to return, hopefully with a fuller dam.
It was disappointing that the lake was empty, otherwise it was a really beautiful location. The hot water in the shower took a few days to work properly, and we couldn't get the oven to switch on. Other than that, it was a really great weekend. Will definitely recommend.
Terribly disappointed and feel aggrieved as what is advertised online is not what is factually available.
We are still stunned by the absolutely fairytale-like surroundings and the enchanting high mountains that paint the most beautiful background for the beautiful and comfortable wooden houses. Photos do not do the cabins and surroundings justice at all. We can't wait for our next visit.
Exceptional location and privacy. Plus the log cabin is stunning.
Lovely cabins surrounded by mountains next to a dam. Very peaceful and only the sounds of nature around. The cabins were well-maintained and looked after. Queries are immediately attended to.
Just sit back and enjoy nature and the stillness of Platbos.
Neat wooden houses that are well equipped. It is by the dam on the edge of the farm close to the mountains, very beautiful surroundings. Road to unit is better ventured with a 4x4 or bakkie, sloops filled with water too deep for even taller cars. We did have a problem with the hot water and there was no power. The owner was very helpful and helped us. Better bring ice and lights just in case, otherwise we'll definitely be back, lovely!
The smoke doesn't smoke the way it should with the fireplace, so you can't use it at all. It was still somewhat usable when we put the loose glass in the door, but then the loose glass didn't hold and broke. I was shocked that the things that are a big draw for the cabin are not fixed. If you fix it, I would love to stay there again!
Could have been imporved if the fridge and shower were working. Advise guests to bring ice and wood.
Our 4x4 gave trouble on the way to Platbos. Lisa was kind enough to drop us off at the cottage with her bakkie and pick us up again two days later. What a nice gesture!
Lovely stay with friends, relaxing and taking in nature.
Accommodation was very neat, clean and tidy. The facilities were adequate for us, the quietness and mountains were beautiful. Loved everything about the place, would recommend it!
Perfect place to relax.
Would have appreciated only WiFi, but some internet connection "rushing" to check e-mails.
Perfect place to relax and unwind in a tranquil setting. The cabins are comfortable and the view from each room is exquisite. Very private, as only three cabins are positioned around a large dam. Definitely going back!
Wonderful getaway destination. The unit was clean, and we didn't see any other guests for 2 days! Heavenly. a few small changes can make the experience even better: a rowing boat or canoe for each unit will keep the kids (and adults) occupied for hours, the solar panels can be slightly enlarged to charge the batteries earlier and faster, and the hot water in Kliphout was a problem.
Had a great time! Bit expensive, but nevertheless a beautiful spot. Only gripe we had was the hiking trails that weren't marked out clearly.
Fantastic location.
Surroundings, location and distance from Cape Town were all perfect. The pond is breathtaking when the wind is calm. We were surprised by the water turtle's visit under our deck.
There should be more hiking trails. The fireplace does not work effectively when it is cold, this is a vital item to warm up the place.
It was an incredible weekend. The scenery is indescribably beautiful. Maybe just slightly expensive?
When we arrived at the Cabin the door was locked. I called the number the website sent me. The lady told me that we should check in at the lodge's reception which was a 15 minute drive. At no point did anyone tell me that this had to happen. 45 minutes later we were back at the cabin with the key. We specially booked there to do the walking route to the waterfall. To our dismay, the hiking trail was not accessible. After 100m of walking it stopped and we couldn't walk any further, what a disappointment.
Beautiful location with stunning views and atmosphere.
There were a few issues. Is there a shooting range nearby? On the Friday evening there was very loud gunshots continuing for about an hour (not peaceful, but I am aware not on your property). Although we were the only people staying in Platbos (the other 2 cabins empty), on the Saturday evening 5.30pm, 4 SUV vehicles with many people and many children, parked on the dam wall in front of us. They pulled out deck chairs for their sundowners, the children all swam (and screamed and shouted), they played a guitar and generally made a lot of noise. They were there for about 1.5 hours. On the Saturday morning, my daughter and I wanted to hike to the waterfall. There is a sign to the waterfall below the dam. We followed this, but it came to a dead end after about 5 m. We then walked from behind cottage no1, following a hiking sign. This also came to a dead end. Eventually we found a path and managed to follow your red dots. This was mostly fine, but the path is extremely overgrown and we got extremely scratched and cut by all the fynbos. I believe that, as you advertise this hike on your website, it should be better managed. The waterfall was lovely and worth the effort.
The location and quality of these cottages made me feel like I was sitting somewhere in Switzerland.
I wish I could add more stars for the rating, this is an incredible destination for a peaceful idyllic soulful experience. Wanted to stay forever. Will be back as soon as possible.
The place is very beautiful, you don't need anything. The fresh bun was delicious.
The fresh bread on arrival was a pleasant surprise. The cottage is very well equipped with attention to detail. Fantastic location, picture perfect. Will definitely stay there again. Only negative is that hanging space for towels would be handy, but otherwise incredibly nice accommodation.
We had a wonderful stay. The house was well equipped, we could sit on the veranda and relax. Enjoyed the Slanghoek Valley and walking around the mountain paths. Breakfast at the restaurant was delicious and the fresh bread on arrival was a pleasant surprise!
An idyllic new year/new year with a full moon over the still water.
Cabin was well designed and was found nicely arranged and clean. The kitchen cabinets were a little high and we had issues with shower pressure (water too cold or too hot).
Nice and quiet in nature where you can switch off and recharge. The views are absolutely amazing! The frogs croak all night. The cabins are very well and luxuriously furnished. We really enjoyed it and will go again.
Staying over at Platbos Log Cabins was such a wonderful experience on our honeymoon! Staying on the dam was so relaxing - the views and the peace and quiet is out of this world. We loved being so close to nature. The cabins are also very comfortable and romantic, especially if you put the fire place on and celebrate with a bottle of wine. We wish we could have stayed longer!
Natural beauty is our of this world. Lovely walks. The cabin was perfect and the fire kept us cosy.
Road to cottages needs an upgrade for normal vehicle use. Yellowwood cottage has a leak where the fireplace goes through the roof. Door of the fireplace doesn't seal 100%. Flush mechanism of the toilet is sometimes faulty and doesn't automatically stop the flush. A row boat per cottage is recommended, and will offer valuable activity and pleasure.
Truly awsome getaway, beautiful setting, very cosy accommodation.
My wife and I had an amazing time in the log cabin. Everything was amazing. We also made use of the hiking trail to the waterfall. Note: I have to report a safety risk regarding the gas system layout at the Olienhout cabin.
It's a very nice and peaceful place. A break from city life. Will definitely visit again.
Will recommend to everyone!
Fantastic facilities, beautiful nature, perfect weekend getaway
Very clean and provided facities were excellent. Very helpful staff. We had a lovely two nights there. Will go again.
Beautiful wooden houses on a dam between the most beautiful mountains. Not too far to drive, but far enough to break away.
The cabins have an absolutely breathtaking view of the Slanghoek Valley and mountains. Overlooking the dam with a cup of coffee in the morning is the absolute best! Just remember there are no plugs! Also no stove.
Quiet, beautiful, well-equipped. And a view you won't forget. It was fantastic!
What a stunning setting and incredible views. The linen is top class and the cabin is beautiful and it was spotless. Highly recommended if solitude and (mostly) peace and quiet is what you are looking for. Sadly the water level in the dam was low but I could still do some fishing and swimming although SUP'ing was a little pointless. Just keep in mind that fridge space is limited as it is a camper fridge.
Will recommend to anyone that loves nature and that wants some peace and an adventure.
Platbos Cabins are very neat and clean and have everything you need. The tranquility does something for the soul. The scenery is breathtaking. We will definitely be back. Maybe a consideration to change the check-out time especially on Sundays to 12h00. A weekend is too short to fully explore the beautiful place.
Very pleasant weekend, Log cabins very clean and tidy. Very peaceful environment.
The right place to recharge your batteries.
A very pleasant getaway. It really feels like you are far away from everything. We were the only people in the wooden houses, the closer two were empty, it might not be so peaceful when you have neighbours. Sad how empty the pond is. Just take to heart the high wheelbase vehicle that is recommended, the dirt road is not difficult, but not suitable for a low sedan car.
It's a beautiful place with wonderful scenery!
Dis ons derde keer in 2 jaar dat ons daar was. Daar is geen plek in die wêreld waar mens so ontspan soos by Platbos nie. Dis 'n plek waar jou siel rus en jy weer krag vir die lewe kan kry. Platbos is ons stukkie hemel op aarde. Baie dankie aan die personeel en Sakkie vir hierdie pragtige plek net om die draai.
Platbos Cabins are amazing. Beautiful surrounds. Beautiful, comfortable cabins. peaceful and romantic, will definitely be back. What a gem.
Was just really hard to find. Should give clearer directions via email. Is also not listed at a business on Google maps so can't use that as a guide. You definitely need a 4x4.
Absolutely beautiful and relaxing, everything and more that was expected, will most definitely return to the hidden gem!
The road is rough and needs attention. Still, it contributed to the feeling of being far from the city and all your worries, even though it is just a 1 hour 15 minutes drive from the airport. The huts are beautifully constructed and maintained.
We stayed at Platbos for a weekend and we enjoyed it. It's a very quiet place and if you want to break away, it's the place.
We had a lovely time, the cabin is well furnished. The fridge was a bit of a disappointment, and so were the campers at the dam who disturbed the silence and tranquility.
The nature, the location and the cabin were very good. They have to check and clean the septic tank more often. For a half of the price that we paid for our weekend at Platbos Log Cabins we received better service at some other places that we book via TravelGround.
It was awesome! My wife can't wait to go back. The cabins are beautifully built and comfortable. The arrival was handled exellently at the reception office. The cabin was lovely well kitted out, interesting, quaint and peacefull. It was very clean and we had everything we needed. There were great small but significant touches, like a bottle of sparkeling wine in the fridge and enough charcoal for two nights braai. The stars at night were bright and clear. My wife loved the place, and put an excellent post on Facebook, to which there was a huge response.
Will definitely go again and especially in winter. It was awesome, very neat and good for your soul.
The reception was great, and the house was very clean and tidy. In the evening you can sit on the porch and forget about the world outside, it's a good time to bond with your family again. Although it was summer (beginning of December) there was a nice cool breeze and you feel safe sleeping with your windows open. The climb up the mountain to the waterfall is a bit challenging, but worth it. Thanks, will visit the place again.
The place is amazing. Only problem was that at 10 o'clock in the evening we heard footsteps outside our cottage on the porch and saw flashlights. We called the emergency number they gave us and only the voice mail came up. We didn't close an eye last night and still don't know who it was. It would be good if they get some kind of security measure.
Platbos Log Cabins are great. The location is perfect and the unit itself is "great". The only problem is that there is too little hot water with very little pressure so if you are in a group it becomes a big problem. It's not cheap accommodation, so you feel you would at least want to be clean.
We had a wonderful time, thank you!
I can only sum it up in one word: "Amazing"!
