Covid and two times of flooding have severely damaged the place.
On arrival there was no parking available, because the restaurant is very popular. We were granted a table at the restaurant, because the tables are booked in advance. Margaret really went out of her way to make me comfortable and even moved us to accommodate us. Fortunately, the restaurant closed at 3pm, so all was quiet by sunset. I think at times that the restaurant is open late, it might be noisy until late. I'm disappointed that we didn't have a view of the dam wall.
We understood that all the units were self-contained and that all faced the river which was not the case.
Thank you for a nice and clean place to sleep and stay with people who make you feel welcome from day one and make you want to visit again.

The bathroom is hopelessly too small for older people who can't move around very well.
Room is standard. Restaurant is great, food was delicious.
The book in was most unprofessional. We were told that our room had been given to other guests three times and we were then taken and shown two rooms to choose from. Room was stuffy with bad airflow. The beds and mattreses were in very poor condition and bedding was grubby and dirty. The kitchen utensils were inadequate, in poor condition and dirty and there was no oven tray. Nothing to use to cook anything in the oven. We only got hot water after lodging a complaint.
Just prefer that beds are not in the kitchen

Our third time at this destination, great for an overnight (or two) stay, on the banks of the Vaal river, only negative is the gravel road is in a very poor state.
As above, very peaceful environment and good for overall relaxation.
We were very disappointed. The rooms are clearly furnished with cheap, leftover furniture and bedding. The staff was untrained and reception was simply a standing room in the dining room. The place is beautifully located and has potential, but is equipped and managed in a care-free manner.

Second visit to Plek Vanni Visarend, comfortable and value for money, great atmosphere in restaurant and friendly staff.
However, I recommend that rooms be thoroughly checked before the time to check that lights, air conditioning and TV works. Only in the third room had working lights and air-cooling. TV channels can definitely be upgraded. There were only 4 channels, 2 sports, 1 children, and SABC 1. So nothing really to look at. And since Bloemhof, except to go to the beautiful dam, especially if you are not a fisherman, there is not much to do. There was also no WiFi and today it's almost a requirement!
There is not much to do for young teenagers. And the advertising said there is a jacuzzi and there was no jacuzzi. Some of the points were in the advertising and not in reality there.
The 5/6 sleeper unit should, preferably not be rented as a self-catering place, or it should be appointed as a 4 sleeper unit. It is very small and there's only 3 chairs in the unit (we were 5 people). And there's no space for extra chairs. It would also help if guests are informed beforehand that the geysers are switched off between 08:00 and 16:00 during the day. A private appointed place where you can have a chat would also have been really nice.

Rooms are very neat and comfortable. Reception was friendly and helpful. The location is beautiful next to the river and well maintained.
However, I was slightly disappointed as I had called in advance to check about equipment in the accommodation and I was reassured that the place was fully equipped. However, we were disappointed: no barbecue tongs, bottle opener, bread knife, bread board and grill in the oven. But overall very nice stay.

A mix-up with the reservation was sorted out quickly. The shower in our unit is in the bath which has high sides and is difficult to climb over for elderly folk. No safety mat or grab rail. Quite noisy throughout the night. There was no hot water at 6 am. Very friendly staff. Restaurant prices very reasonable.
Totally disappointing. The room was totally unacceptable. There was no working ceiling fan. The air conditioning only worked for half an hour during a hot evening. Very unpleasant, it could only work at temperatures higher than 20 °C.
The rooms were not clean. It also needs a serious "makeover".
The activities advertised were not available.
Any decent accommodation by the river can be pleasant.

We had a great meal and hung out in the restaurant section. The restaurant on site is great. We really enjoyed our weekend.
This is not a four star place, but clean with a great view and good and tasty menu!
