Poortje Game Farm comprises of 3 beautiful stone cottages and 2 Wooden cottages. Because of the intimate setting of the cottages, they are only rented out to 1 group of up to 18 guests at any one time, ideal for families or friends to get together. Each stone cottage contains a double bed and 2 single beds, a bathroom, and a fireplace, as well as a covered patio. The cottages are fitted with solar lights. The one wooden cottage has a double and one single bed and the other 3 single beds.
In front of the cottages, there is a spacious boma, a lapa, and a swimming pool. Guests have use of fully equipped cooking facilities and braai facilities. 12-volt lighting is provided in the lapa and washing up area.
The cottages are surrounded by ancient rock walls and kraals shaped by a vibrant history. Several species of game traverse the farm and gather in the idyllic valley leading into the Vaal River.
Poortje Game Farm offers visitors an opportunity to experience the tranquillity of the Free State with an array of wildlife on the farm, or just the simple freedom of being in a farm environment with cattle, sheep and fresh air for the whole family. It is a perfect breakaway opportunity from the busy city life, where stars fill the night sky and fresh air clears the mind. Come and experience outdoor activities like game watching, bird singing and hiking trails.

13 guests' feedbackIt was wonderful to visit in nature. Almost felt like camping. Showers not at the cottages, but were not a problem. Will definitely visit again.
With all the "forest amenities" one realizes what one is actually missing.
Beautiful and clean. A diamond for sure. Fully equipped with everything needed, very friendly introduction to the resort. We were not short of anything, the accommodation is so nice and comfortable. We are already looking forward to being able to return again for another weekend.

Poortje definitely exceeded my expectations. Gerhard and Hannelie provide excellent customer service. If you really want to switch off and just get out of the city for a short break, Poortje is just what you need! For future visitors, I have the following tips: Poortje is very well equipped. Don't waste your space by taking kitchenware, gas bottles, etc. Just take your own food, drink and as much wood as you can pack! If you go with the main goal of watching wildlife, just keep in mind that this is not a wildlife park. There is no exotic wildlife. And Gerhard is quick to tell you that too. There is only some wildlife but the main activity of your visit should not be wildlife watching. If you are someone who likes board games, come along because here is a very nice lapa where you can sit and do this type of stuff. The bigger the group of people, the better the visit! There is more than enough space here.
Were there with friends. It was great and peaceful. Very quiet. Thank you for the great stay, will stay there again.
Was great that all the families could be together at once, yet still be able to retreat to their separate accommodation units when needed. Kids enjoyed walking around the farm and making loads of fires. The pool is small and shallow enough not to be too big a concern for small kids. Large fridge helped keep food and drinks cold. And was great to be able to access a neighbouring farm to spend time on the Vaal River.
We had such a nice stay! Exactly what we needed! No phones, TV or shops! Just family time and relaxing in nature! Thanks also to aunt Hannelie and uncle Gerhard, you are lovely and always made sure we had everything we needed! We'll see you again soon!

To get away from the city's noise, Poortje Game Farm is excellently located. Just an hour's drive from Boksburg. Will go again because it's affordable.
Make people well aware of no power.
It was extremely quiet and relaxing. The owners were very helpful and accommodating. It is very well equipped. Walking and quad biking. If you are a lover of rocks you will never be bored here. Would have to say that toddlers will need supervision.

Because of the intimate setting of the 3 cottages, Poortje only accommodate 1 group of friends or family members at one time.The hot water and kitchen appliances are all provided by gas.
Please note that there is a gravel road leading to the accommodation. Guests are required to enquire about the condition of the gravel road before booking.
Note, due to Poortje's secluded location, it is not the most ideal stop and go accommodation especially when arriving at night and it is therefore suggested that guests stay more than a single night.
