Lovely hosts that you give you personal attention and care. For our family of 4, it was like having our own private little home. The electric blankets and heaters were fantastic in the very cold Sutherland weather. Rooms were clean and spacious with everything you need for your stay. The breakfast was lovely and enough to keep us going till supper time, which says a lot when you have teenagers with you. Denise made our dinner reservation and arranged our planetarium visit for us as well. Fantastic stay, thank you. Highly recommended for families with teens.
Was very kindly received as well as during the time we stayed there. There was a problem with the shower but it was fixed immediately after we replaced it. It was not the owner's fault. The room we stayed in was very neat, clean and nice and warm. We will definitely use the accommodation again when we go to Sutherland again.
Would have been better to know in advance the en-suite bathroom is a shower in the corner and the toilet in the converted but literally the wardrobe. In the end it was classic and funny and okay.

It felt like I was visiting family! From the moment we stopped, we were welcomed like family. Recommendation for dinner and delicious breakfast was served, while we are still visiting. The stay was too short.
The hostess is very friendly and the double room was neat and clean. The shower in the corner of the room and the toilet in the built-in cupboard are very strange. The shower is also only suitable for tall people, because the faucets sit particularly high. The breakfast was elegantly and tastefully served.

The Star Road alone was worth it and there are various additional side-dresses available. The guided tour of the old church is very interesting. Good places to eat, nice town. At Primrose Cottage, Denise and David looked after us well and gave us good advice. And a first class breakfast.

Quiet location in town, on a large plot, with covered parking for our car, and easy access to the house. Hostess, Denise, was warm, chatting and helpful, suggesting venues for dinner and reserving a table for us. The host and hostess of the cottage are the most heartwarming, caring and hospitable couple, from the moment you arrived. They treat you as royalty because of their background. The breakfast was every morning made and served with much love. They went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one and surely we will return soon. The guests' area was nightly warmed with heaters and electric blankets. The temperature was undesirable cold. It was winter! They also guided us on which to visit and when to visit. We will definitely book at Primrose Cottage again.

Beds are excellent. Hospitality is excellent. Breakfast is excellent. Bathroom for room with 2 single beds has only a bath and is across the hall. Bathroom for room with double bed is inside the room and very interesting. You must have a sense of humor. This is a great option for Sutherland!

Great place to stay and do star gazing as part of your travel plan. From Sutherland one can travel over the Ouberg Pass into the Tankwa and on to Ceres. Will recommend as a must-do trip over the Ouberg Pass from Sutherland as you then descend into the Tankwa Karoo.
She could answer every question we wanted to know. She also turned on our warm blanket while we were out stargazing on a windy cold Monday night. Had a wonderful stay.
Friendly atmosphere, extremely homely feeling, although hostess is English speaking, she goes out of her way to show her respect for Afrikaans, water/electricity/safety for car, everything to our taste. You sense good values.
The number one place to stay overnight. The hostess is a stately English lady who provides a high standard of service and is extremely competent. Just what you can expect from such a person. Gives good advice regarding restaurants and attractions and her other half is a great source of informative information. All needs are met and everything works well. Is stretch recommended.

The hostess makes you feel at home immediately. I just mentioned to her that it was my husband's birthday the next day and she made his day exceptionally special. Can't wait to go there again. Even their normal breakfast is very tasty. The room is neat and warm. Warm blankets are put on early in the evening and the sherry is topped up daily. The special attractions are also recommended. Ek moes hierdie resensie al lankal geskryf het. Ons het een nag by Primrose Cottage in Sutherland oorgeslaap in Februarie 2021 tydens ons motorfietstoer deur die Tankwa Karoo. Dit was ook ons eerste keer in Sutherland. Ons het heerlik gebly. Die gasheer en gasvrou is ongelooflik gasvry en vriendelik en hulle weet alles van Sutherland. Dit was ook seker die lekkerste ontbyt roereier wat ek in 'n lang tyd geëet het. Die huis het baie karakter en mens voel sommer dadelik tuis. Ek sal dit nie as luuks beskryf nie, maar alles is netjies en skoon en daar is alles wat mens nodig het. Ons sal verseker weer hier bly!

The host was amazing (English and us of course Afrikaans, but the chats in between were invaluable). It was a bit strange to sleep in someone's house type (the guest room) but wow, all in their place, lots of antiques and there are very fine details that have been thought of. Really enjoyed it and the host made arrangements for a stargazing excursion with no effort. Would definitely recommend, so will visit again.
Hosts Denise and Dave were so very helpful and informative, we so enjoyed learning about Sutherland and the SALT from them. They also gave us great recommendations re local attractions and eateries.

Friendly and helpful hosts. Room small and basic, part of owner's residence with improvised wash (shower in corner of bedroom) and toilet (in closet in the same room). Functional but expensive in relation to other alternatives in town or our other accommodation on our trip.
Staff talk an awful lot. Toilet is built into the built-in wardrobe and shower in another corner, sink does not have hot water and a hot water bottle is provided. Staff keep asking you about what you're going to do and what you've done. Too bad they never see us again.

Denise from Primrose Cottage is a very thorough, stylish hostess. We had a wonderful stay and were treated the next morning to a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurt, bacon, eggs, orange juice and coffee! She even made coffee late at night after we came back from the stargazing. Interesting use of space in the guest room! Shower, sink and a surprising toilet in the hanging closet! We would stay there again.

However, the bathroom facilities are disappointing: The pressure in the shower is very weak, there is no hot water available at the sink and the toilet in the cupboard is not very practical.

A cosy room awaited us, with a warm bed (electric blankets had been turned on) and a cup of tea! Denise booked supper for us the next evening at Cluster, where we had the most amazing sheep shank. It was divine after being outside in the cold looking at the stars! Denise and David had super delicious breakfasts prepared for us each morning and were always such good company! I can't think of any critique to balance the positivity in this review. I usually try to keep it mute, but this couple is outstanding.
On arrival, our room was nice and tidy and nice and warm, already ready for us. There was everything and more you could think of to make the stay comfortable. We even received an extra cremation on the bedside table. After a good night's rest in -3ºC, we were nice and cozy with the panel heaters and the electric blanket. We didn't even realize that it had started to snow. After a delicious English breakfast (felt like a three-course meal), we started the road back to Cape in the snow. Will definitely stay at Primrose Cottage again.
The stay in Primrose Cottage was wonderful. The toilet hidden in the closet was quite a surprise. The hostess really thought of everything. She booked a place in advance on the tour to SALT and also for stargazing. If it wasn't for that, we wouldn't have found a place. She took care of a lovely warm bed and hot water for the sink. We can recommend the place with confidence.
We were pleasantly surprised with the friendly community. Our hosts are excellent and it was lovely to meet them. They provided us with excellent advice regarding the surroundings and the roads to Carnavon. The breakfast was the best.

We were spoiled every evening to a warm bed as Denise switched our warm blankets on early in the evening. The bathroom has a heater which helped a lot for the cold and being from Cape Town with the strict water restrictions, I loved having a hot water bath. We were kindly received, our beds already had the electric blankets to fight the cold. There was also some sherry for the inner heat. Parking was plentiful and safe. We were well trained to make our observatory experience breathtaking. Our spot for dinner was booked and we could just turn up and enjoy. Primrose Cottage really made our time in Sutherland unforgettable.

Denise and David were great hosts. Wonderful breakfast. They insisted we use their garage for our two bikes. Recommended Cluster d’ Hote for dinner which was outstanding and we ate there both nights. Primrose’s en suite room was disappointing. The shower was fine but the toilet in a closet and the small basin in a corner with only a cold tap was not expected. The beds had heated blankets and plenty of bedding. Unfortunately both bedrooms were freezing and the panel heaters were ineffective against the Sutherland winter/snow temperatures. A small fan heater in each bedroom would have made a big difference to our comfort.
Our hosts were very pleasant and the room neat and comfortable. The hosts have extensive knowledge about Sutherland and the surrounding areas and directed us to the cutest places to eat and attractions. Can definitely recommend Primrose Cottage!
Slept well and very friendly host and lady! Breakfast was tasty and well served. Only the bathroom facilities, although very neat and clean, are very impractical and not up to standard.
Owners delightful but the property is not up to the asking price. It is better located in Sutherland.

My husband and I were made to feel at home. On arrival we were met by the very friendly owner who made us a cup of tea and gave us all the info on Sutherland. The room was neat and clean and in the morning we were treated to a very good breakfast. Highly recommended. Would definitely stay at Primrose again if in the area.
I would recommend Primrose Cottage with ease. Even with his sick body, Jurg at Sterland was passionate about sharing his astronomy with us. Dress very warmly for it.

Denise, our hostess and her husband, Dave received us kindly. We wanted to have a barbecue and they were very accommodating and offered us everything we could possibly need despite the fact that it is a bed and breakfast accommodation. Denise often offered us tea or coffee.

Super clean room with a delicious breakfast. While we went stargazing, Denise switched on our electric blankets so that we could sleep warm and well when we returned. Talk about personal attention!
The shower in our room was incredibly small and the water pressure low, but luckily the towels were brilliant white, soft and clean. There were also some lovely Woolworths shower products.
Our warm reception was an indication of the friendly hosts, who made our short stay in Sutherland such a pleasure. Thanks Denise and David for a memorable weekend in the warmest town in SA.
