We had our wedding there. The photos came out so beautiful thanks to the surrounding views, very quiet and peaceful. Lovely place.
Monk Cowl is very close. Reptile Park is worth visiting. Very nice stay. The garden is pleasant. Beautiful view. A beautiful place to enjoy nature.
We woke up at dawn and enjoyed the sunrise every morning. Pumula is such a special place. It has a very warm and homely feel. Wood was provided for the fire which was a real bonus.
The location is perfect and the view indescribably beautiful. I could just sit outside under the tree and look at the mountains for hours. Environment is not busy and you rest!
Magnificent. The views, the hospitality and the absolute tranquility were highlights.
Thank you so much for being willing to share your beautiful gem with others. It is a beautiful, neat and equipped place. Close to everything and the view is amazing!
Short covered braai facilities for when it rains.
Lovely peaceful place. Value for money. I will book again. It is a place where you can breathe and find yourself again. No complaints. Kitchen well equipped. Load shedding lights and gas stove as well as electric stove. Board games in living room cupboard and many books. Nice fireplace. It's a special place. Like no other. Read the book Pumula, it is on bookshelf in living room. Interesting. Built in 1967. We enjoyed it immensely. No TV, no WiFi. This is the break everyone needs.
They must change the photos online. The place has been upgraded with most of the things, including new linen, a new fridge, and newly painted walls. I enjoyed being in Pumula. The view is incredible, with mountain flowers and a clean yard. Erik is just a phone call away. I can recommend it to anyone.
Very nicely located and was very satisfied. Could not find any errors.
The carpets need attention. We were also not prepared for the separate fat lines. The rooms are separate from the living area and kitchen, so we had to move in and out in the cold if you wanted to go to the kitchen or rooms and move with 2 sets of keys. The view was incredibly beautiful, but not much to keep children occupied.
I can sit in that lounge and look at the view every day! Close to other attractions such as the bird of prey shows and the Drakensberg boys' choir. Also, don't miss the bakery down in the valley. Excellent value for money. Very rustic, but incredibly comfortable and has everything you need.
It was a wonderful break away. The views are spectacular. The fireplace in the lounge was amazing for the cold winter evenings.
Situated at the foot of the Drakensburg the mountains, very close to Monks Cowl nature reserve (which has some of the best day hikes in the berg). We had the most amazing long weekend. We went hiking a couple of times, had gourmet burgers and milkshakes at Kabbo down the road (an absolute must if you are in the area) and we attended a performance of the Drakensburg Boys Choir at their school (what an amazing show!). The accommodation is rustic and basic but has everything you need and oozes with character from its rich history. Every morning was a treat. Watching the sun come up with a cup of coffee at the outside table under the trees seeing the beautiful mountains appear was just awe inspiring. Our 2 boys had loads of fun kicking a soccer ball on the big lawn and exploring the property in the day and playing board games at night by the built in fire place (it can get freezing at night in winter). What a refreshing back to basic place to reset your mind from the rush the city life. Can't wait to come back.
Hot water pressure very weak.
It was really great! The view and the environment where it is is incredibly beautiful. It literally felt like every morning when you walked out you were in a cloud and when the cloud cleared it was so bitterly beautiful. Very calm. Really, really beautiful. I recommend Pumula Central Drakensberg 100%. We locked the key in our kitchen and the owner was more than willing to help.
Best break I have had in years.
The accomodation is very clean and tidy. It is situated between breathtaking mountains.
We enjoyed our stay very much as it is a beautiful situation and our need for quietness and rest was well worth our long drive. Thank you.
I realised we had to pack our own bedding as stated on the web page. I forgot and maybe it is worthwhile in the confirmation emails to emphasize such requirements.
Pumula is quite different to other places when it comes to what one is used to. It is very simple accommodation, but it comes with a ton of character. I absolutely loved the whole place - its indescribable location, the simplicity and the remoteness that allows reconnecting with basic values.
Beautiful location surrounded by excellent fairy mountains. Quiet. Restful. Hot. Peaceful. Every day is a different painting-beautiful experience. Rustic. Not luxurious at all. Old. Enjoy reading the history of Pumula. Well located. Close to many activities.
It was one of our most enjoyable vacations! With our three children, we played cards in front of the fireplace every night and played cricket on the large lawn during the day. The milky way in the evenings and the open mountains during the day I can't put into words.
Pumula is well situated with incredible views of Champagne Castle and the plains of Natal.
My family missed a shower, but the location is outstanding. One really feels at home - wonderful place for a family holiday.
A beautiful, rustic place. It was so peaceful, with exceptional views of the mountains, birds and flowers. A place that you don't want to leave and can't wait to get back to. So many places to visit and enjoy.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with a bowl of holly from the lovely Diana and a panoramic view of Cathkin peak and surrounding mountains. Pumula is more rustic than we expected (with no rubbish collection even in the area) but we loved it and embraced it! You really do feel like you're in another world being so close to the Drakensberg Peaks. Sounds of the river at night, misty mountains in the morning, baboons running past in the afternoon. It's a wonderful location. Close to hiking trails, shops, lots of firewood stops and restaurants. Pumula would be perfect for groups of family or friends who enjoy hiking! P.S. I fell in love with Pumula's book collection - each one felt perfect for the Berg and gave you a sense of the owners, as well as the interesting history of the mountains.
Has everything you need.
Pumula is a rustic log cabin at the "foot" of the Drakensberg, just perfect for my adult daughter and son, my wife and I to break away from the fast-paced living and smog of the big city. Diana (the owner) is very friendly. Even though the weather at times was very cold, the cabins were warm, and we could snuggle up in the sitting room in front of the fireplace. More than enough room for a number of adults. More than what we expected. Lots of bird life. The sunrises against the mountain were beautiful and the evenings with the stars above was awesome. Almost a sort of home-from-home. The rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and sitting/dining room was well kept and cosy. We were very disappointed when it was time to go back home to Pretoria. We would definitely like to go and holiday there again.
The house is rustic, but nice and big, the kitchen is very well equipped. Just bring your own toilet paper. All that's missing is a shower. The garden is beautiful and the view breathtaking. Different hiking trails are easily accessible. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend the place anytime.
If you are looking for luxury accommodation and comfort - look no further. If you're looking for peace and quiet in silence, drop in here. Rich in history with fantastic views for the nature lover.
Warm welcome, nice place to be, very clean.
The house is very old but very clean. The living room sofas are at the end of their life and will soon need to be replaced. If you are going for luxury this is not your place, but the location is very good with views of the valley and the mountains. Diana is very friendly and hospitable!
Nice stay, just a bit impractical if you are a family of 5, as the 2 bedrooms are not close to each other (there can be 4 people in one, and 3 people in the other), and the kitchen and living room -area is completely in a different building than the bedrooms. It is also not said in advance that the maid did not wash the dishes, but you must leave your R180 there for the cleaner as soon as you leave. A big problem for us was the garbage that we had to throw away somewhere when we left and no one knew where to do it. If you drive a vehicle in which there is no room to transport a black bag of rubbish, this can create a problem - we came from another holiday destination and our vehicle was quite full. The nice lady who received us, Diana, said that they were going to drop off their rubbish at Winterton, about 34 km from Pumula, at the other ash bins. Even the tourism board has not yet sent any feedback about it.
Peace, stunning surroundings, we will definitely go back!
Well received by the caretaker. A very comfortable house with three bedrooms, two bathrooms (just a pity there is no shower). An old house but very neat. Would recommend for families.
We really enjoyed the stay. Facilities are basic, but you it's all you need. It was refreshing for the soul.
Remarkable location and building history.
Large lawns for the children to play. Beautiful gardens. The most beautiful view of the Drakensberg. A very well equipped kitchen and lovely sitting and dining room with a warm atmosphere. Will definitely visit Pumula again.
Just another thing is needed: A shower for the larger people, undercover parking for the cars when the hails strikes, a light at the braai area, and a splash pool will be nice... otherwise it was awesome. Will definitely tell family and friends about your beautiful place.
Magnificent area. Spacious accommodation. Bathrooms very old and dirty. Cutlery in kitchen was dirty and had to be washed before we could use it. One of the rooms has a sponge mattress, bad, one of the kids had to sleep uncomfortably on it. The place has a lot of potential but needs some attention.
Water was a problem that needed fixing.
Quiet, great escape, no disturbances. Lots to do in the area if you don't want to sit still.
It was a wonderful 3 days. Breathtaking view from the unit. Close to beautiful hiking trails. I would very much like to visit there again soon.
Take yourself back to a time you visited with your grandparents. Log cabin in the truest sense, built from local materials, with a nice hearth. The kitchen is simple, yet fully equipped with everything you need. Enough sleeping space for 7 people. No shower, but not the worst thing in the world. Diana is friendly and helpful. There is so much to do in the area. Pack sneakers for hiking to waterfalls! View is fantastic. Just one thing, you have to take your non-recyclable trash back with you.
The mountains are on one's doorstep. Diana is very pleasant and helpful. Pumula has so much potential, but one can see that maintenance is lacking. The furniture is comfortable but very old. Value for money but could do with refurbishment.
House has a lot of space and large lawn for children. Home's interior needs some upgrading. No heaters in the rooms (a must for winter). Price is a bit high compared to other places in the area. One has to remove all one's own garbage - not what one expects. Need to make more provision for power outages.
Excellent place to relax in a stress-free environment. Other people may prefer shower facilities although my wife and myself were satisfied with the facilities provided. Loved the clean mountain air and the scenery viewed from the log cabin. The log cabin presented a homely welcome cosy atmosphere.
Great views. Relaxing. Quiet. Well kept. Best equipped kitchen we've ever encountered. Many things to do within a short drive. Even our 3 teenagers didn't mind the fact that there wasn't a TV! Two "nice to haves" we'd have loved: A guest toilet in the living area and a warning that the water for drinking might be a problem (but that wasn't a train smash at all.) And, Diana, thank you for all your trouble and the little chats. You & Lenah are stars!
It's a shame that you have to take your own bedding - especially if space in the car is limited AND the fact that there is no shower - the bath is not always suitable for everyone. The beautiful, good and beautiful location makes up for it and the azaleas were incredibly beautiful!
Pumula is very well appointed in terms of kitchen equipment and furniture. New carpets in the bedrooms and a new kitchen floor carpet would be an advantage.
We thoroughly enjoyed out stay at Pumula, what a spectacular view! Stunning huge lounge/dining area with fireplace and large windows all around to show off the lovely mountain views. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. The 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms are in a separate building. Bedroom 1 (2 x 2 adult single beds), Bedroom 2 (2 x kiddies single beds) and Bedroom 3 (2 x adult single beds and 1 x kiddies single bed). Bedroom 3 has it's own en-suite, while bedroom 1 and 2 share a bathroom. The men would have liked a shower (there are only baths here). Also, the beds are a bit small and I would recommend exchanging the kiddies beds for the adult single beds, and perhaps getting a queen size bed in the 3rd bedroom. Otherwise no complaints. Pumula is wonderfully located, so close to everything! We will definitely be back, and recommend Pumula to our friends and family.
We will come again.
It is a beautiful setting, awesome views and not expensive. It is a wonderful peaceful place. The only thing bothering me was the inside of the houses. It is very old (it didnt bother me) but some people may find it a bit freaky. We had a very long drive and when we went to bed, the beds were not made. There were no sheets, only blankets - luckily for us because it was very cold. It will be an awesome place to stay if they just give more attention to the inside of the houses. A nice, clean bed is a must!
Nothing to do after dark, so the unit needs a TV.
