This accommodation is fantastic and great service.
Very happy with the unit, and good value for money.
Fantastic service. Very helpful and luxurious with underfloor heating, fireplace as well as in the bathroom. Very close to everything. Stop at accommodation and can walk the rest of the trip.
It was very nice, we would love to come back again for many more nice visits.
Was wonderful! So central in the middle of where everything is and happens! Will definitely stay there again next time!
Have a nice stay for sure.
What a lovely place. My daughter, her husband, and my friend enjoyed the house with the beautiful views. Very comfy bed, spacious kitchen, and the most comfy lounge seats. Sitting on the patios relaxing with all the beautiful birds around us, looking at the mountains and the occasional visit by the Zebra was the part I enjoyed the most. The photos do not do it justice. This was a dream holiday for us and I can only thank the accommodation with all my heart.
Very neat and perfect location. Fireplace was special.
For residents who have trouble sleeping with noises, prefer to book the rear rooms. They can have a yo-yo tank and pressure pump installed to have water available all the time. We had a wonderful stay.
We parked and walked all weekend. Was very nice. Wasn't on the road so late at night the streets were busy but we didn't hear it and it was quiet. The balcony view was the best. Cleaning services were available and friendly. So it was a real rest weekend.
Had a great sleep on the way to our holiday.
Very nice, nothing wrong.
Thank you very much for a safe haven when the small town of Clarens was so busy during the cherry festival. The lovely stoep with a beautiful view was the perfect place to visit.
Rooms were tidy with underfloor heating switched on. Fireplace was packed, ready to light. Will stay there again!
Just two pieces of advice. Put a longer coal tong by the fireplace. The two loose mats, one in the room and one in front of the bathroom are very loose and slippery. Slipped on it 3 times. They just rolled up and put away, but otherwise it's really a very nice place. It's beautiful, clean and the reception very friendly and helpful.
Can walk anywhere.
Great. Was convenient for me.
Centrally located, nice and tidy place. Just a pity about the water problems that harm the environment.
It's located in the center of the town, clean and comfortable.
I loved the space, it is so close to everything. Will definitely recommend.
Friendly reception and comfortable with excellent location but the curtains and duvet need serious attention. I also passed this on to the receptionist.
Have a nice stay, beautiful nature, nice weather, lots to do.
For the high rate paid, one would expect to have hot water. A cold shower in the Free State is not advisable!
The unit offered everything we needed. Violet, at reception, is very friendly and helpful. We would stay there again anytime.
Good location to everything.

It was a wonderful time with my husband. Bathrooms available everywhere which is convenient as there is a lot of walking. Restaurants are great and enjoy all the shops.
The TV. No rugby. Everything very neat. Well located and within walking distance of als. Restaurants close to accommodation and within walking distance.
Nice place to stay, easy accessibility to town, we only stayed one night.
What a fantastic night we had there. I wish it was longer. Firstly the photos don't do the place justice. Secondly, check-in was an absolute breeze, reception even organised someone to assist with our luggage. The place was massive, we booked for 3 adults and 1 child. We got a whole apartment with 2 balconies in town centre. They even provided coffee, sugar and milk. It was beautiful, with free WiFi. Heated floors and the most comfortable beds. Cant wait to go back and make it a long weekend or more.
The service that Red Mountain House provides is always open and honest. They make trouble if you can't check in before 5. Staff are very friendly and open to help where they can. The room is nice and tidy and contains everything for a summer and winter Clarens, I personally love a fireplace and am always amazed at how it can make the room feel. Only concern I have, but it is looked after, is the parking, the countryside is a bit different from the city but still you would like to find a place to lock your car or motorbike. There is, I must say, a guard who looks after the vehicles, which also gives you a lot of peace of mind. I would go back to the destination again anytime and if someone asked me would always recommend them first regardless of the one concern I have. It's my second year and my second time here, it has already become something that is put on our calendar and I don't miss my end of the year for anything. Hope to stay in Clarens again in 2023 at my favorite destination!
Red Mountain is literally on the main square of Clarens, so you're close to all the shops and restaurants, but the rooms themselves are quiet and tidy, with lovely views of the mountains from the balcony. Jessica was very friendly and helped us check in early. Our room had a nice fireplace, and we had a good time visiting and sleeping.
Really enjoyed our weekend in Clarens, lots to see and do, and had a great stay.
Very nice place in the middle of Clarens. Look out over the square. Lovely underfloor heating and fireplace. Near restaurants. Enjoyed it a lot.
Feel free to look at their shower. Very hard to get in and door is broken, definitely not suitable for a senior citizen.
Neat, clean accommodation with a lovely fireplace!
Woke up to town without water, management made zero effort to assist or supply water for our last day, could not flush toilet for 24 hours. Was met by a shrug of the shoulder.
Staff are very friendly and efficient. Rooms are more than sufficient for what is required if you are going to be on the go during your stay.
As per above expectations were not as expected.
If the roof leaks are repaired it will be even better. Better security for car overnight.
Furniture not what you will find in a 4-star establishment. WiFi should be unlimited. Did not appreciate the fact that the room was not en-suite. Shower a problem to step in and out of. Braai area in need of paint. Looks run down. Privacy is quite limited as only a hollow door divides rooms / flats for the next one. Every word can be heard from persons staying next door. Appreciated the underfloor heating and fireplace wood received every day. TV reception is a problem for those who want to watch TV. Also close to all of the activities. Safe parking. Will go back to Clarens but will rather stay elsewhere.
Self-catering unit has everything one needs, and braai facilities were fully equipped. Roof leaked and towels were provided for the problem. Receptionist Jess simply gave my private phone number to other people who checked in to call me as they wanted to park next to our vehicle. The man simply aggressively said that we have to pull the car right, because we stop badly. Although we had vehicles to the left and right of us, which were then driving. Very unprofessional. Reception should have just called themselves and asked that we move the car, on the contrary any of the 3 other vehicles could have just been moved. Shower is also small. WiFi was on and off. Then just stayed on data instead.
I would just like to state that there was a misunderstanding, but the kind lady Violet went out of her way to correct it. She provided excellent service for a special request I made to her as well. We would definitely like to visit the place again in the future and thank you for friendly, clean and tidy service.
Perfectly situated. The staff were super friendly. Lovely and clean.
Lovely close to everything in Clarens.
Stayed wonderfully cuddly. I would just like to have a full DStv package, we couldn't watch the rugby, even if you have to pay a little more.
A wonderful weekend stay. The rooms really pay attention to detail (like providing facecloths, setting a new fire in the fireplace every morning and even refilling the kettle). The rooms are very cosy and comfortable and perfect for a winter getaway. The staff are very friendly and helpful too.
Our stay was wonderful, the front desk arranged for our key to be collected after hours. There was a minor misunderstanding as the key was not left under the door as noted, but we were promptly helped and the receptionist was very friendly through the entire process. Thank you Red Mountain House. See you again soon.
The long veranda on the top floor overlooking the town square and street is perfect for morning coffee and evening wine. Reminiscent of Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

Red Mountain House was definitely a hospitable and well organized place to stay. Friendly and very helpful, would definitely recommend and stay again.
Location is unbeatable, a joy to go out for food, shops and walking. Underfloor heating and log fire every day make it lovely and cozy day and night. Great service and facilities.
Right in the heart of town. Underfloor heating was a big plus with a fireplace, 4 poster bed and bathroom heater as well as a discount voucher at a restaurant below the room.
Early morning walk with a coffee shop that opens before 7:00 with delicious coffee, the mountains that lower around Clarens are picture-perfect, natural beauty and wonderful art galleries and of course the shops too, a wonderful break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
It's perfect for people who want to visit the town and walk around. In fact, you don't have to drive at all. However, it's not exactly quiet and peaceful, because the people visiting can be heard at the restaurants and on the street. The stairs are quite steep to the top floor and there is no designated parking. You can also park at the back, but there is no security. The rooms and units are very well maintained, spacious and comfortable. Especially the self-catering apartment with its private balcony and barbecue area is very nice. The bathroom has a shower and a bathtub, which is convenient. Reception is friendly and helpful. It's nice that the units are also cleaned over a weekend. Will come again if we want to visit the town.

Had a great time, will definitely stay there again.

We really enjoyed Clarens and the accommodation was up to standard. Violet was excellent.
We were there for the weekend for our wedding anniversary. The view is exceptional and the location perfect. The rooms are neat and clean, but little things that one expects from a 4-star place (according to their website) were missing. We really enjoyed the fireplace and the room was wonderfully warm after a long day in the cold. We arrived late in Clarens and didn't find the reception open (we were aware of this beforehand), but didn't see anyone working there at all for the rest of the weekend. At check out time it was a fairly short interaction with reception, we literally handed in the key and that was it. There was no request for any feedback and the goodbye was rather lukewarm. Overall our stay was okay but I would not book there again.
The first stay in Clarens without electric blankets and adequate heating. The underfloor heating definitely does not provide enough heat to warm a south facing room in the dead of winter. A broken shower door in our unit.
Restful. Cleanliness. Cozy atmosphere.
I was greeted by a very friendly warm lady at reception. Check in was very fast and efficient. The accommodation was top class and very clean. Position is great you in walking distance to everything. My weekend was wonderful and relaxing.
Received an excellent reception, could not ask for more. Als is tidy, room is cleaned daily and staff is friendly and helpful. Can recommend Red Mountain House for sure. 100% for the lady at reception, she is a star.
Reception was very friendly. The room is very neat with everything one needs. There is a roof fan and a standing fan to make it nice in the summer. Everything was convenient. It was nice to be able to stay close to everything and just walk where you want to go. I would definitely recommend it.
Towel rail has fallen off, and I can see it has been siliconed more than once. Furthermore, we had a great time, thank you!
Would have liked an air conditioner. Ceiling fan helped somewhat with the heat. The standalone fan did not work.
Thank you, it was a privilege. See you again soon.
WiFi is not secure and very weak. No desk facilities in the rooms.
Right in the center of town, walking distance from all the restaurant and shops. Had the best stay! Would definitely recommend Room 1, it has a private balcony.
Red Mountain House is very centrally located and very close to restaurants and shops. The room is nicely furnished and generally well equipped. You get breakfast vouchers that you can use at 3 different restaurants - The Courtyard is amazing. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay there again.
Very beautiful and spacious.
Lovely place with friendly people! Red Mountain is really great!
Great location, spacious and clean unit, just very cold because of tiles. However good quality bed linen and fireplace in lounge made up for it! Although we've had to go out twice to buy more wood as the wood supplied (even extra delivery) was not sufficient to keep the fire burning long and hot enough to keep us cosy on a cold Saturday. But I will definitely recommend it, had good service from Violet. Lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance (actually everything in Clarens is within walking distance!). Everything in the unit was spotless, all crockery, cutlery, cookware were available, as well as towels. The feather-down duvet in the bedroom kept us very warm at night.
We had a good time, slept and always felt safe.
Very professional, perfect location, friendly reception, clean rooms that are serviced daily. Breakfast options (choice of 3 places) with the room was a bonus. They will definitely see us again.
Very cute place where you get more than you expect. Will definitely stay there again.
We enjoyed the stay and everything is within walking distance. Even though it is located in the town, it is very peaceful.
Nice rooms. Central. Friendly people.
I went to ask the Big Question at Red Mountain House. The place is beautiful and you get exactly what you expect. But so much more the customer service that went above and beyond every step of the way! Very nice place.
The location is the best in Clarens. We rented no 1 and 8 together. The 2 balconies worked great. The place is thoroughly cleaned and the bedding is absolutely clean. The only negative is that there is no chair on the stoeps to sit comfortably. These are these metal upright chairs.
It was a wonderful experience for me and my girlfriend. The rooms were neat, clean and also nice and warm. There was a cleaning service every morning. Will recommend it to anyone.
We liked the different options for breakfast, a choice of 3 restaurants. The room was lovely and well equipped with shower and bath. We are pleased to learn that secure parking will be provided, the only gap at present.
Always good at this destination. Good service and a beautiful place. Value for money.
Outstanding. Actually wished it was even colder so we could light the fireplace.
Nice and spacious. Very centrally located in town. Just walk where you want to be. Rooms are very comfortable with TV, bath and shower, WiFi available.
Was 3 adults, the unit was divided into 2 and we got the back part. The 3rd person had to sleep on a small pull-out bed. Will work for children under 6. No privacy. The other part is only separated by a doorway. The unit should certainly not be shared. This caused us to leave 3 o'clock in the morning, because we could no longer handle the noise. Very disappointed.
Very neat. The room is tastefully furnished and take precautions for any weather conditions. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Very safe.
We've been to Red Mountain House quite a few times since 2008 and we've always been very impressed by the neatness and service. Great place and the location is vekry convenient because you can walk wherever you need to go. Thanks so much to the staff.
We were kindly received even though it was after hours at the back door. Rooms are clean and tasteful. Location is perfect if this is your first visit to the beautiful village. Definitely go again.
See stars.
It's my third stay here, and every time I really enjoy it because it's clean and central. Staff were friendly every time. Since they don't serve breakfast themselves, one has to wait for 8 hours until one of the three options is open.
Expected more. No windows and no airconditioning.
I will have to search if I want to critique something. The unit is very neat, clean and pleasant to stay in. One gets the impression that management does everything to make it pleasant. The staff are very friendly too. Breakfast was delicious! Thank you very much for a wonderful couple of days.
We had a lovely stay, the fireplace was fantastic and the breakfast delicious.
Very relaxing weekend, enjoyed all the arty shops, interesting items on sale. Delicious food from restaurants.
The room was very comfortable and clean and has a good bed and comfortable chairs. Beautifully, tastefully decorated. One can see they are focused on the cold, with the fireplace and the wood ready to light. Also a heater in the bathroom. But we were there when it was 30+ degrees and there is no air conditioner. It was very hot in the room. If hot summers continue in this part of the country, air conditioning would be great.
Had an absolutely fantastic weekend in Clarens, just a shame the mattress needs urgent attention, it has a bump in the middle of the bed, not very comfortable to sleep on.
Red Mountain House is well located and close to everything. The facilities are excellent and the breakfast top notch.
Everything was top notch. The breakfast was delicious. The rooms really are comfortable. The noise from the restaurant was a bit of a hindrance, but it doesn't last until too late in the evening.
Friendly, helpful, good room/apartment. Highly recommended.
The room was very neat with a fireplace and underfloor heating. Walking distance from almost everything!
Very friendly reception, comfortable rooms with a nice view of the mountains and excellent location. Because of location with restaurant downstairs it can get a bit noisy but the atmosphere makes up for it. Would recommend it. Only criticism is slow service during breakfast but otherwise very good.
Stunning place. Very busy. Interesting shops. Nice eateries.
New paint doesn't work. Look at the before and after photos for yourself.
The room is very neat, but it's very small and cramped. The DStv's sound didn't work very well and the bed wasn't very comfortable. Seeing as it was above a restaurant it was noisy until late. The included breakfast was very average and it's not on the normal restaurant menu. Not value for money, way too expensive!
Very comfortable with friendly service.
We stayed off season (end of August) for one night at Red Mountain House, and it was a lovely place to stay. It's a lovely location and we had a beautiful room. Very friendly service!
Red Mountain House is the best room I have ever had the privilege of staying in. From the beautiful antique furniture, magnificent carpets, décor, excellent use of space to the perfect bathroom I felt welcomed and spoilt from the moment I stepped in through the stained glass door! Truly it made the rooms in The Protea Hotel – Clarens look like they were 10 years old with absolutely no personality compared to here. Red Mountain House completely surprised me – real value for money! It start my 2015 off in the best possible way. Thank you very much and keep up the excellent work!
Very clean, comfortable place to stay.
Didn't get cold at all because there was enough provision made against the cold! Vito's food is top notch. Breakfast every morning was delicious and enough variety to choose from.
Red Mountain House is definitely worth its four stars. It is within walking distance of everything. The restaurant's food is some of the best in Clarens.
The location means you can walk everywhere in Clarens without using your car.
Very pleasant experience. Fireplace, wine and chocolate - nice welcome. Good service, good stay.
We got ready for a freezing cold weekend. Great was our surprise when the room was deliciously warm. The underfloor heating had a nice cozy feel and the fireplace was lovely. We could choose between a large variety of options for breakfast and the men who served us were so friendly and spoke good Afrikaans. This is definitely a place to recommend!

The fireplace was so appreciated!
We ended 2013 in Red Mountain House. It's quite nice when the staff greets and welcomes you by name upon arrival. The accommodation was extremely clean and very well furnished and equipped. The location is ideal - walking distance to the whole town. It was so nice to sit on the balcony early morning and late afternoon - almost like Christmas! We would definitely recommend Red Mountain House and visit again ourselves. Our grown children are planning to stay there for the Bierfees in February.
We enjoyed our stopover here,,it is so central and well managed.
Excellent location in Clarens. Room needs a little attention (TV stand and a dresser would have been awesome). Otherwise it's fantastic.
It was nice to spend the night in the center of town, close to everything.
Friendly staff and a spacious room with fireplace. Clean and beautiful view of the mountains. Will live there again!
Very pleasant stay; would recommend it!
No air-con in the rooms, so could not sleep over 30 degrees in the room at night. The smell from restaurant dustbins not good, and the noise from the restaurant at night is not too good. We live in South Africa where it's hot in summer - so installing air-con is a small price to pay for your customer comfort.
Would just like to have an air conditioner and fridge in the room.

We enjoyed the time very much. Good value for money! Very centrally located!
Standard service and tidy but nothing that makes the place stand out. A fridge in the room would be convenient.
Just spent a three-day stay at the Red Mountain House in Clarens, South Africa. Thank you Andrew and your friendly staff as well as the staff at Vito's Restaurant. We had a wonderful time in Clarens. Being right on the square made everything within walking distance, even some of the hiking trails just outside of town were accessible. There many choices of places to eat and the bottle store sells South Africa's superb wines for the usual affordable prices. Parking: off street, secure, behind the B&B. Rooms: We asked for a room on the back side of the B&B that looked at the mountains. We got room #4 that had a privacy wall on two sides so that you didn't see the short alley or the outside seating of the restaurant when you sat at the balcony table and chairs conveniently situated outside of the room. The staff of Vito's was kind enough to uncork (sans corkage fee) the bottle of red we had just purchased and we watched the clouds come over the mountains as we enjoyed a sundowner. Vito's also delivered a scrumptious pizza to our room. Fabulous room service! The Morris chairs were very comfortable and the canopied bed could probably use a new mattress but still afforded a good night's sleep. The bathroom fan is a wee bit loud especially when the bathroom is in use during the middle of the night. The room is made up daily. Shampoo, bar soap, a liquid bath soap, bath towels, hand towels, and wash clothes are provided. The sherry is refilled and chocolates provided every day. There is a TV but we never turned on the device. There is lots of storage space if you bring or purchase lots of stuff. On site restaurant: Breakfast is included in the price of the per person room. There are several choices, at least two are substantial and well prepared. Coffee is adequate so if you need a robust cup to start your day, go to the coffee roastery just around the corner to your left as you exit the front of the building. Dinner is Italian. Apparently pizza is one of the best choices because the ovens were going all day.

This was one of the best B&Bs I've ever been to.
It was very nice and very centrally located. The service was excellent and the people were very friendly and helpful. It was a nice getaway. We will definitely visit again. Thank you.
My other half and I were received very kindly. Because Red Mountain House is so centrally located we could walk everywhere we wanted to be. The fireplace in the room is a big plus during the cold evenings. It is quiet and peaceful even though it is in a busy area, without the noise of traffic and with a beautiful view of the mountains. We will definitely book there again.
Amazing view, fire place really made it nice and snug, thank you.
Excellent service, cleanliness, safety and value for money. Everything is as tidy as a 5-star hotel. Love the idea that the en-suite bathroom has both a bath and shower. The staff is tremendously friendly. Vito's is a great restaurant with exceptional waiters. Would recommend Red Mountain House to anyone visiting Clarens. We will without a doubt be back!!! Thanks so much.
Red Mountain House is ideally located to be able to visit most places on foot.
A very convenient and central place in Clarens - right on the square, within walking distance of restaurants and shops. We would definitely recommend it to anyone.
A very pleasant experience.
Very cute place for overnight facilities. All the necessary things you need are there. It's close to everything, very central to the town. They might just improve their breakfast a little bit.
Value for money in a lovely town.
It was especially nice to be so central in the town.
Our stay here was great. No complaints at all!
Guesthouse stay was okay, and the location very handy as it's in the middle of Clarens. Received impersonal service.
The accommodation is inconvenient as breakfast is provided by outside agencies. You either have to walk a block away in winter cold for a substandard breakfast, or you have to wait until after 9:00 for the private restaurant to open.
The view and location were fantastic and great value for money! We will definitely stay again when next in Clarens!
The hotel is excellently positioned, right in the hub of Clarens square. The rooms are clean, though air-conditioning on hot days can be challenging. The host makes you feel very welcome and goes out of his way to remember who you are; making you feel like a personal friend (guest) and not just another tourist.
Breakfast is good, the room is clean, warm and well serviced. It was a bit noisy up till 23h00, as we were in a street-facing room, but the location makes up for that! Friendly staff, and the on-site massages are heavenly!
Very clean and pleasant accommodation. Enjoyed the stay in Clarens tremendously. Lots of things to do and magnificent scenary
