38 guests' feedbackI had a particularly nice stay in Rhodes at the hotel. Will want to go back again, one night is not enough. Want to show my wife and children the most beautiful town in SA. Room was comfortable and food was good. Atmosphere was fantastic and the bar is something to experience. The hotel is not just a place to sleep, it's an experience, an incredibly nice experience.
Quaint little village, friendly hosts and a gastronomic feast!

We stayed for 2 nights, Rhodes is nothing like any other town in SA. The countryside, views - all spectacular. The hotel fits right in with this.
Absolutely awesome. Sandra and Arnie are fantastic hosts. Very friendly with great wholesome food. The revamp of the hotel is going to be amazing - so much has already been done and Sandra knows just what she wants! Great place.
The stay was great. Lovely hosts, comfortable, and great meals.
Wonderful country hotel, farm hospitality in an amazing mountain setting. We always love visiting Rhodes and staying at the hotel.
Beautiful hotel, very accommodating staff. Highly recommended and will definitely be back.
The hotel room was basic, but it was nice and clean. The shower needs some renovation. Upon arrival at the hotel, the bartender checked us in and showed us to our room. The hotel is a beautiful old world hotel with many antiques throughout the building. It was really cool that we could watch the rugby in the bar, and the landlady offered free refreshments for everyone watching. We also enjoyed our meal there, which was delicious. The next morning we enjoyed breakfast in the hotel's dining room, where we got a nice freshly baked sandwich among other things. We also bought fuel for our vehicle from the hotel.
Hospitality and excellent food.
The hotel has so much character and history. It has been nicely restored and retains its character. The 5-course dinner will take your breath away! Breakfast is just as delicious! Keep it up!
A special experience.
We made an overnight stop here while returning from Cape Town to Durban "the pretty way" and are very glad we did. Rhodes is a beautiful, peaceful place, with a strong community spirit which keeps everywhere clean and tidy in a nice old-fashioned, casual way. Everyone at the accommodation was exceptionally helpful and friendly, the accommodation has great character, and the dinner and breakfast (included in the price) were superb.
The atmosphere at Rhodes Hotel is very pleasant! It was a lovely visit, thank you very much!
Although the hotel needs some work, it is a great place to stay. The owners are friendly and helpful, and the food is real home cooking. Electric blankets are very welcome.
When you visit Rhodes, you are stepping back into a previous century. It is therefore appropriate that you should stay at Rhodes Hotel, which is also stepping back into a previous century. Savour the experience, enjoy good service and everything else that goes with a bygone era. While Rhodes is accessible using a normal car, it does become extremely challenging/dangerous if there has been heavy and continuous rain.
Arrived quite late but was received hospitably by owners and at least could shower before dinner.
The owner goes out of her way to receive guests kindly and warmly, the food is excellent. The hotel is very popular with tour groups. Due to circumstances, we were unfortunately not accommodated in the hotel itself, but the stand-alone cottage we stayed in was sufficient.
On my own, on my way to look for the snow falling on the mountains. Had lovely food for dinner and a tasty magwinya breakfast!
My parents spent the night there and had a very difficult day on the way there. The room was wonderfully warm when they arrived and they ate and slept very well. Thank you very much!
Hantie and Sandra are wonderful hosts. They provided us with all the information we wanted about the area. The meals were fantastic and their hospitality second to none. We will definitely visit Rhodes again.
Loved the fireplace and pub too. What a great place to visit if you want to relax, read a book, do photography, enjoy fresh mountain air, do 4 x 4 trails and enjoy some walks! We loved the extreme 4 x 4 trip to the gate of Tiffendel and the tasty 4-course meals, which Sandra prepared for us! The village is very quaint and picturesque!
Prices were very reasonable. Breakfast and dinner were included in the price. Dinner was a 4-course country food feast. They made us feel like family.
For departing guests the 8 am breakfast start was too late as this meant we were only able to depart after 9 am. Would recommend that a 7 am breakfast would be more suitable for departing guests.
The hotel is old and as it was closed for many years it does require some renovations without losing its old charm. The owners acknowledge this and have already started a renovation program. A very good experience in a beautiful small town.

The town of Rhodes' location and setting is absolutely a time capsule. One goes back 100 years and more. Architecture, look feel and way of life. Beautiful and truly special. Sandra and Handre, old generation farmers and now also owners of the 1888 year old hotel do an incredible job. Hospitality and warmth in the first instance and then a refinement regarding the decor and cuisine that surprise you every time. Well done!
Very nice stay, thank you. Rural peasant hospitality at its best and this in a charmingly restored hotel from yesteryear.
Very nice stay. Friendly staff. Nice food.
Interesting historic hotel with loads of potential - and probably getting there, slowly. There is no excuse for dusty furnishings in public areas and filthy tablecloths outside. However, the rate for dinner, bed, and breakfast is very good. Not all rooms are of the same standard, even though they are charged at the same rate.
Nice stay. Delicious. Will go back again.
Friendly hosts, good food and a comfortable room.
They were totally unprepared for us. According to them, they had no feedback about our visit. The result: substandard accommodation. Happy wonderful meals.
Time stood still here. Most beautiful nature, friendly owners. Farm food Nice beds. We had to leave early and got a discount for missing breakfast.
This was an absolutely amazing experience. It was a pity we could only stay one night. We are definitely looking forward to coming back soon. Note to the world: just watch the weather before you head over there. In difficult weather conditions, it certainly helps to have a capable 4x4.
Rhodes is a beautiful historic town with hotel centrally located in town with old world atmosphere, as there are no shops nearby I prefer the hotel to self-catering when we visit Rhodes.
Lovely place that brings you back to the old days. The breakfast, dinner and service was outstanding.
Great bed, great food, amazing little town. The hotel was better than expected. Awesome value for money. The food was excellent and the hosts were great. We will definitely be back!
