73 guests' feedbackI feel free to recommend, it is clean, tidy and peaceful. Cottages are nice and clean. Nice hiking trails, swimming pool, etc. I will check in again.
We had a great time. We spent the Saturday by the pool, and later in the afternoon lit a fire at our cottage. Later that evening we stood outside and looked up at the wonderful view of the stars. The fact that there are no lights outside at all was a plus for us. It just made looking at the stars so much easier and wonderful. Our one night sleepover was exactly what we needed, as new mum and dad, and of course baby enjoyed it just as much in the peaceful silence in the valley.
It was deliciously clean and fresh.
We had a great stay and would go again anytime.
Beautiful! We will definately come back - staff is great and accommodation just the best. Try to bring a 4x4 or fourwheeler. There is also a pond where you can swim. Super nice.
Awesome place to stay, relax and disconnect with family! Bring something warm if you are coming in the colder months as it does get chilly.
Very calm, peace and quiet. We managed well with the gas and the solar system. Cell phone signal is weak but sufficient. It was wonderful to see and hear the cattle every day. One day we drove to Dullstroom, about 60 km of which more than half was dirt road. Unit was clean and very nice.
Such a beautiful location, the chalets are distanced enough from each other that you feel like you're in your own world. Would definitely stay longer next time.
We had a great time at Ribbokskloof. They have the most beautiful scenery that just makes you relax.
Very calm and quiet. Unfortunately, a bat bothered me continuously from 02h00, every 15 min. If I turn off the light he comes back. Rather drove and left my food behind (couldn't keep it in the car). I was expecting a call but at around 14h00 I preferred to find another place to stay. They let it be known that the previous weekend's people had not complained. After about two weeks put my money in the bank for the second night, and R20 extra.
The farm is very beautiful. We stayed in Blinkblaar Chalet. We struggled terribly with the shower's water. It's either ice cold or blazing hot. The roof leaked when it rained. There were also bats in the roof that messed up one of the beds. The house has a lot of potential but needs some updating. Other than that we had a nice stay.
Distance from town not well indicated. I was closer to Bethal than Middlesburg where I needed to be in the day. Horrible dirt road. Money I "saved" on accommodation I spend in petrol and wear and tear. No electricity, solar only couldn't charge my phone. No cell signal at all - made me feel extremely vulnerable. No microwave to heat meals.
However, it is not for "squeemish" people. It's remote and with limited electricity, but clean, tidy and safe and eerily quiet. I really love the place, but there is no fuel or shops nearby. It also seems that there are places between the ridges that do not receive cell phone signal.
Great place to visit for some R&R. Not sure I had missed it but would've been great to be warned that the electrical plugs are only 12v.
The nature was amazing.
The service was very good, the environment is incredibly beautiful and peaceful, stars with the banja group.
The friendly Driekie received us so nicely! After I paid my place she immediately contacted me via WhatApp. She was also in contact with me all the time. Until I picked up the keys from her. We wanted to rest and just be lazy. Didn't even want to get up on Sunday in the rainy weather and get ready for breakfast. Then they spoiled us at our Chalet with delicious breakfast platters for 2 people at exactly 9 o'clock. We will definitely come back to hide and rest there! We sat for hours under our cloth pad and just took in the beauty. In between the rain we could have a nice barbecue. The accommodation is very private. Well equipped. And more than enough sleeping space for just 8 people! Aalwyn Chalet is perfectly located by the river and with all the rain we could hear the water over the stones all the time. Thank you very much for our nice weekend. See you again soon.
Children had fun walking and discovering by themselves. Nice environment.
Super quiet, open and peaceful. Very private, a real getaway!
What a lovely weekend. Enjoy cycling, fishing and walking. We brought the valentines and attended the braai dance. It was 10 out of 10. An awful lot of effort is put into maintaining everything nicely. It's so nice to be there, you don't even want to go home. Wish we could have stayed a little longer. This is definitely one of my favorite places to visit. This was our second time at Ribbokkloof Holiday Farm and will definitely visit again.
Was just very nice. Would love to go again.
A lovely long weekend getaway. Not far from Joburg. Rustic chalets were clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Just what we needed.
What a lovely getaway. Sometimes you just need the beauty of nature around you to recharge. It was peaceful and quiet. We had fun fishing and great cycling. The weekend was unfortunately just too short for us. Will definitely visit Ribbokkloof again.
This is really the ideal place to come and relax. It's wonderfully quiet and the house is very neat and well equipped. The footpath is pleasant, but not reason enough to come here. Rather, you come for the beauty and serenity. Unfortunately, the footpath is also completely full of knapsack guys who will stick to your clothes. Remember your own towels and a blanket to sit outside under, because the evenings get cold!
Friendly service from everyone. Beautiful place. Lots to do.
Very pleased, accommodated ourselves with a unit without stairs for the young children. Clean and tidy, just couldn't locate the fire extinguisher in the cottage.
Great place, really enjoyed it.
Mara-Lee and Chris very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the hiking and had a nice MTB ride on farm roads.
This is a stunning getaway!
In general, it is a very nice place with beautiful scenery. A few problems we encountered were the photos still show people sitting in front of a fireplace, but no fireplace may be used anymore. There is now gas heater that you can rent for R200 which is not the same. A deposit of R400 must be given for the key, but you may not do it in cash and if you check out and return the key you will not get your money back immediately, it will only be paid back to you later. The solar battery was empty the first night we got there and it was clear that no one had checked it before we checked in. We then had to make arrangements for them to come and put in other batteries. None of the management or staff wore masks for Covid-19 and we feel they could perhaps improve this. Safety may be a problem if there is a farm attack, because the cottages have almost no signal and there is no panic button or security gate either. The thatched cottage has only one entrance (door) which might be a problem during a fire if one had to flee from the house.
Very peaceful. Lapas need attention.
On arrival we were pushed into Aalwyn and after I called, moved to Stinkhout. Also for 12 people, very small. Very steep stairs with only 1 bathroom. It was not at all what I had hoped for or expected. We had 5 small children, was very impractical. The caretaker was very nice and helpful. I will not stay there again.
We as a family really enjoyed it. The beautiful nature and the tranquility did us good.
We thoroughly enjoyed it. The tranquility, The calmness of the river stream that swept past us, the great variety of birds singing and waving through the air. Pitch black nights due to no electricity. Here we found ourselves again and got to know our souls. Had great conversations with each other and with God. Would recommend Ribbokkloof to any camper. Just make sure the road is not wet when you travel there, as only a four-wheel drive vehicle will find the wet road passable. Otherwise, it is quite passable to tow a caravan there.
Very nice place with no signal or power to shut off from the outside world and just enjoy nature.
Will definitely book here again for me and my family. We were a big group here for Christmas and it was really nice. No TV, just us and nature. It was very nice.
If you want to get away from the noise and hustle and bustle of life, you go to Ribbokkloof. The silence in the gorge is deafening! If you are used to every luxury, Ribbokkloof will not work for you. You use gas or battery or solar power. There is no power point, but we have taken care of that. The place was spotless and tidy. We slept very comfortably. It might not be suitable for families with teenagers who can't live without technology, but for us it was heaven on earth. We even saw a pair of Ribbok goats when they came to drink at the stream. Fresh spring water supplies the cottages with the most delicious water. We will definitely go back again.
We had absolutely wonderful 3 days at Ribbokkloof. Rested well! Very neat and clean. We will definitely return.
Ribbokkloof is a fantastic weekend visit - this was our second visit to the farm. We had a great time, enjoyed the walking routes (with 5 and 9 year olds walking together). Our only criticism is the pool which was terribly dirty, sand and soil on the bottom and water brown (turbid). The farm had heavy rain two days before we checked in, and the river washed into the pool - that's understandable. We would like to see the pool made more accessible to guests as soon as possible, because with young children the pool is a constant attraction.
Our stay was very nice, accommodation is standard, neat and clean. There are no power plugs to use any appliances, be aware of that and we didn't know we had to bring our own bath towels. It was quite a story. The location is good and the break from the city is heavenly for the soul. Kids enjoyed the fishing, but the areas around the river and ponds short of clearing, we had lots of bushes and mudflats to wrestle through.
We were looking for a break. And got all that and more. We really enjoyed it.
On Friday, July 5, the day before we had to go home, there were trees being cut in the bushes. The silence was broken by chainsaws and a truck, tractor and bakkies that drove right in front of our house and made lots of dust. I also mentioned it to the lady when we checked out, it was very disappointing!
It's better to go as a group.
Such a peaceful and relaxing place! Had an awesome stay. Thank you.
We really don't have any complaints and will stay there again anytime.
We are in love with Ribbokkloof Holiday Farm! And just want to tell all our friends and family about the beautiful place. Unfortunately we went camping with two small children in a very cold time so we struggled a bit without the power and warmth and had a very cold night. But our last night there was in a cottage and we would definitely recommend it for people with small children. If the weather is warm or the kids are older, the campsite is perfect! The surroundings are beautiful with the most beautiful views!
We really enjoyed it! It was clean, tidy and had a great time.
It is a very safe and tranquil farm - we as a family enjoyed the time on the farm a lot - at night it is very quiet and the children played outside the whole day. We'll definitely be visiting the farm again. Thank you very much for everything.
It is a good place to chill and for peace but you need to specify that it is a 4x4 terrain road and if possible an addition of plugs would be much appreciated. Either way, it is a great place to be.
Friendly people, beautiful place. Will definitely go there again.
My husband, daughter (6) and I really enjoyed our time at Ribbokkloof. We stayed in Alwyn chalet. Away from city life, TV, etc. Had warm water and a great gas heater because our chalet did not have a fireplace. Remember to bring a charger for your phone or a fully charged powerbank. Great 4x4 trail.
I just want to say thank you very, very much again that we were able to enjoy a wonderful weekend there. Everything was clean and tidy. The service was great and your picnic basket was perfect! It was so peaceful and we will definitely be back!
Starry skies that you can write home about. Walking trails that will have you sweating and where you can enjoy nature. The stone house was neat, clean and everything you need is there. Relaxation by just sitting back. We enjoyed the silence and just being able to relax. Can highly recommend them.
We really enjoyed the break, because being able to be in nature just a 2.5 hour drive is heavenly! It was nice and cold in the evenings, but the house (Alwyn) was wonderfully warm with enough bedding. We were just a little disappointed that we were 6 people and only 2 large towels were provided. There had also been no chairs/table or light for outdoor barbecue and we were not informed to bring them either. We also didn't know that there were no power points, so be sure to take a car charger with you! The river had dried up, but that is understandable with our country's drought, just such a pity. Other than that it was nice.
Beautiful surroundings and a nice place to forget about the city for a bit.
Beautiful stone houses in a beautiful setting. Website said we should bring towels, dishcloths, toilet paper and dish soap...but that was all. We should have taken matches (for the gas stove) and a wine bottle opener instead. Alwyn could do with better lounge facilities. Furthermore, it was very peaceful and we enjoyed the walking route.
It's a beautiful environment and peaceful. Everything is very neat. However, nowhere does it say that you must bring your own towels and toilet paper. It is also not clear that none of the houses have power. We slept in Lemoendoring. It sleeps 4, but only 2 chairs at the kitchen table. The kitchen is very basic equipped. The double bed was very uncomfortable.
It was a nice break and we will definitely go again!
The campsite was lovely and quiet. You have to love nature to fully enjoy it. Would definitely recommend it if you want to relax.
Camp by the river, nice and warm donkey. Nice fire pit and tent pitch. Nice hiking trail.
Ribbokkloof is a real gem and it's located very close to Johannesburg. It's picture perfect, the fireplace in the thatched house is wonderfully romantic, it's just a shame that people riding motorbikes are allowed.
This nice stone house in the middle of nature, where you can bring body and soul together again, is the perfect getaway. Away from our daily hectic existence. You can't help but just relax. The beautiful nature reminds you what life is really about. The cottage and the amenities are perfect; you don't expect 5 star when you are so close to mother nature. And mother nature is a very good "nanny". The children play outside for hours without you knowing about them. Even their little souls "connect" with the tranquility of nature. We went home, rested, relaxed and satisfied.
We really enjoyed the stay with only the hot water being somewhat of a problem, but with the help of Willem it was soon sorted out. It is a beautiful environment where one feels so close to one's Creator and truly it is close to one's heart.
Beautiful and peaceful place to recharge batteries. Close enough to JHB for a quick weekend getaway.
A very relaxing stay in nice accommodation that has everything one requires. Friendly people and nice walking trails. Use the inside fireplaces with caution, one of the other thatch units burnt down.
I would be able to recommend Ribbokkloof to anyone who wants to get away from the hectic life. I can't explain how much I enjoyed my stay there! The place is clean, tidy, beautiful inside and out, quiet and peaceful. Everything was just as I wanted it to be. The lady who received us was very friendly. I had the best time of my life, my husband and I will definitely be staying there more often for a weekend just to be able to spend some time with each other and appreciate the tranquility. Thank you very much for the beautiful place to stay. You really are tops!
From the moment we drove into Ribbokkloof's main gates, it felt like we were on holiday. We were kindly welcomed by Adrie Schutte and the formalities were quickly completed. From the office, either down the dirt road or over the hill, we are greeted by a secluded natural world where the wind blows playfully through the gorge and the red Bonsmara cattle graze peacefully between the rondavels. Don't expect to be able to use your electronic toys here, because this is where Mother Nature brings you back to earth to find your "roots" again. The earthen kettle sings merrily on the gas stove while the solar panels behind our cabin capture the last of the sun's rays for our lights for the evening. I haven't been so lucky in a long time to be in a place with NO mains electricity or annoying cell phones and emails that bother me... A barbecue fire and the sweet taste of a Rosé under the stars have the perfect atmosphere on Friday night created to ask your sweetheart the yes word on one knee! Early morning walks on the footpaths brought sore legs and muscles by the afternoon, but it was all absolutely worth it! I have probably never felt so safe and so isolated from society in my life. It was certainly not the last time we camped at Ribbokkloof and we can't wait for the next time we drive over that hill on that dirt road.
We had a great time at Ribbokkloof! the customer service were great and Adrie helped with all of our requests. nice and clean chalets with everything we needed. There were a few hiccups. one being the problem with the overflowing drain at Blinkblaar making it impossible to sit outside. ( there is also no outside braai area) the other problem was with Tolbos where there were no electricity and also very cold showers (the guy doing the maintenance did try to replace the battery pack for the solar system but it didn't work.) But it was a good stay otherwise - Ribbokkloof's cows makes it an experience that you won't forget. they are beautiful and we had fun watching them - the only problem is that they leave a messy landmine surprise behind on your doorstep. A perfect setting, and a good value for money stay.
A wonderful getaway without any electricity. Only wash one needs!
We were short of bath towels. There was only one. A coffee bodum will be great. We had 2 camping chairs with us, so we could use that on the inside to sit on in front of the fire place. Maybe they could have 2 fold-up ones.

For our chalet and camping guests, we suggest that you bring your own bath and swimming towels, dishcloths, dishwashing soap, toilet paper, torches, binoculars and insect repellent to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We do however have a small shop at the office if you need anything. Guests must remember to bring their own camping chairs.

In addition, Ribbokkloof’s beautiful horses will enthrall all visitors, young and old alike.
Ribbokkloof’s sparkling pool is set right in the midst of nature, overlooking rolling hills and untouched natural vegetation. For guests’ comfort, there is a thatch lapa as well as picnic tables located right by the pool.
