The River Cottage is situated on a cliff overlooking the Olifants River. The self-catering cottage can accommodate up to 6 adults and 3 children, and comprises 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a loft area, and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area.
The first bedroom contains a queen-size bed and a shower en suite with a toilet and washbasin. The second bedroom contains a queen-size bed, and has an outside shower and washbasin. The loft area contains 3 single beds, and is accessed via a ladder. The loft is best suited to children.
The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering and includes a stove and oven, fridge-freezer, cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils. There is a 6-seater dining table and chairs. The lounge contains a sleeper couch, and a fireplace.
The living area opens to a wraparound deck with spectacular views of the river and mountains. There is an outside braai area.

7 guests' feedbackThe cottage was comfortable and very well appointed. Attention to details was excellent, from comprehensive and easy to understand directions, to the supply of tubes for swimming in the river and ample firewood. Access to the farm is on good dirt roads which are manageable with a normal sedan car.
What a lovely few days of rest together with fun and adventure between mountains and fruit orchards. The cottage is equipped with everything you need and the fireplace makes the unit wonderfully warm in the cool evenings. Furthermore, the hot KolKol pool is the best place to float in with a drink while the sun sets over the cliffs. Activities abound for young and old - cycling and jogging without limits, sausage grilling by the pond and even frolicking in the river with inner tubes. Even our woof enjoyed herself! We will definitely visit Visgat farm again, especially when summer comes to see the plates of spring blossoms. Thank you for an unforgettable break.
Cottage is perfectly perched to overlook the valley. Uninterrupted view from the hot tub and private swimming hole in the river. Children loved the loft area, especially as it is only accessible via ladder so mom could not go up and check on them. We will definitely be back.
However, requires maintenance i.e. dripping tap in kitchen, kitchen sink looks disgusting. Counter tops require attention, crockery cracked, pots no longer non-stick and burnt on the bottom, kettle needs replacing. Maintenance required on windows i.e. catches, double doors at entrance, toilet in shower area not secured in concrete.
Nowhere on River Cottage's website is it mentioned that there is no syn in the area. I booked with my whole family for the week, R9000 is not R900, the power was off from the early hours of Wednesday 21 July 2021 all day and night, luckily we drove into Ceres' town and then had to light candles buy, the power didn't come on until Thursday morning at 11h00. I feel only the right information should be provided to people who are interested in inhabiting the place.
We had a great stay at the River Cottage. The natural beauty and seclusion make it a particularly attractive destination.
We loved our stay and would definitely come back.
