Had a great time for 12 days. Units neat and clean, and have everything one needs. Location is excellent for driving into the game park at the Malelane or the Crocodile Bridge gate. Pool always clean and beautiful to cool off in, and gardens beautiful. View of the Crocodile River is beautiful, and saw a lot of wildlife across the river from the lookout by the pool. a good manager of River Cottage Lodge, always helpful and friendly, and helps out with any extra requests or necessary information!
Wonderful location on the banks of the Crocodile River near shopping facilities at Malelane and access to Kruger Park. Comfortable old cottage and all necessary equipment. Lovely boma overlooking river and clean swimming pool. Very helpful friendly host.
Ideally located on the Crocodile River! See Kruger Park's animals from your accommodation. Hospitable and beautiful surroundings. The equipment in the cottage/kitchen was only limited and upgrade/construction around living areas is unfinished. Once in place - perfect destination!
Return visit. This is a great location, with a wonderful viewing terrace overlooking Kruger and a 'colonial' house with an ancient baobab! My room had a strong smoky odour, which was not pleasant, but they changed the pillows and sheets for the second night, and that was much better. The (new?) owner plans to totally refurbish and turn it into a private resort, so go there while you still can!
To get here, you pass the train tracks and a sugar refinery! What will you discover? Despite this, it is a hidden gem, with old trees, an ancient baobab, and great views of Kruger (elephants, lion, buck, crocodiles). Feels like a bit of the old colonial world--don't modernize it too much. Really enjoyed the personal touch--and many fellow guests say they return every year. Only downside: stayed in two rooms, and the second smelled strongly of smoke.
We had a great stay and the host and his wife were always friendly and helpful. The unit was tidy and regularly serviced.

Absolutely perfect for a cosy, self-catering, base camp. No reason to stay in Kruger, gate around the corner! Our host Greg was super and went out of his way, more than just the extra mile, to ensure our stay was incredible!

Very nice stay, just looking for a place to sleep for 2 nights, my son played golf for the weekend for the mpumalanga foundation, place was nice clean and tidy.
River Cottage Lodge is conveniently located. We enjoyed sitting in the garden and watching the elephants in the river. The unit itself is comfortable, spacious, clean and tidy. Tools in the kitchen were somewhat limited and it would be handy to have a cutting board and grater. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We would visit there again anytime!

No, the unit is extremely well equipped. No oven, just two plate stove. No salad bowls. No casserole. No salad spoons. Frying pan with broken handle. No egg yolk. No corkscrew. No grilling tools. No grocery store. You have to live out of a cooler. No dish drying rack. Soap holders in bath and shower are broken.
