Unfortunately, we had foul weather the whole weekend, so I would love to visit again to explore the many mountain trails and to enjoy river kayaking and braai facilities. Lovely relaxing stoep and a huge variety of birds and lovely hosts.
We had a really nice stay. The hostess was very nice and helpful. The view is beautiful and we would definitely recommend River View Cottages to anyone who needs rest for the soul.
A gem of spot tucked away deep into the mountains with seemingly your own private view! Fresh mountain water, a river runs through and a wonderful sense of place. Love the minimalist but stylish taste that follows through the houses and spacious patios - immersed in nature, nature and more nature!
Definitely worth a visit. You come to a halt, learn to breathe deeply again and hear and experience nature. Please sit down just a sheet on the bed for the warm evenings. The reading material was a surprise, as were the special works of art on the wall. The cottage is functionally designed. Thank you for your warm welcome and good communication via mobile phone.

One of the best overnight stays I've visited.
We had a wonderful stay. The ideal place if you want to wash your soul clean of the modern evils (which is sometimes necessary). Thank goodness there is no TV or WiFi. We had a great time relaxing and just staring at the most beautiful mountains. The river makes it picture-perfect. Recommended if you want to rest and enjoy nature and use the silence part to make you human again. The right place to rest. Thanks to the owners' hospitality.
River view cottages is an absolute gem. The cottages are well-equipped and there's more than enough to do in the area. The bird life is also fantastic! We were sad to leave.
The location is out of this world. The animal life and especially bird life is spectacular. Romantic and breathtaking views of the mountains. The Gamka river was the first river I felt safe to swim in and could spend hours staring at it. There were no visible spiders and none in the canoes which is a big deal for me who is very scared of spiders. My fiancé and I fell in love all over again. Bronwyn is amazing! I would definitely recommend this stay to anyone who wants to connect with nature again. Thanks, Bronwyn!
Incredible scenery. Cozy accommodation for 5 days in front of the fireplace. It was cold outside! Cottage has everything we needed. Delicious fresh bun treat. Bronwyn and her family are extremely friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Beautiful scene with the Gamka river which was in flood. The fresh clean air is wonderful. Bronwyn and her family make you feel very much at home!!!

Beautiful well-equipped cottage with breathtaking views over the Gamka River and Swartberge. Peaceful close-to-nature experience. Lovely walking routes up the headlands and swimming and canoeing facilities down in the river. Beautiful bird life. We'll be back!
River View Cottages offers all you might need. The river and koppies, walks and wildlife, offer a most serene and relaxing environment. No cell reception or Wi-Fi was bliss. Our host was very hospitable and kind.
The perfect getaway between mountains, next to the river for silence to recharge body, soul and spirit. The 'cottage' is clean and tidy and very tastefully furnished with good quality crockery, cutlery and equipment. The personalized welcome note on the door sums up the detail. Bronwyn is the ideal hostess and communicated well from the booking and made an effort with information and photos of the unit in which we booked. She specially came to get acquainted and made sure everything was comfortable. River View Cottages is everything and more than the photos and description convey.

We enjoyed our stay at River View Cottages. No Wi-Fi or cellphone signal. Only for those who want to get away and spent quality time together.
Very neat, well-equipped cottages for two. There are 3 residences, each with a private porch and braai. Wonderful romantic atmosphere, with the hammock, fire and bright stars. The river is close by and there are canoes, barbecue, jetty and grass to sit on and have a picnic. Nice for the hot days! Calitzdorp is about 20 minutes drive away (including a 7 km dirt road). Hostess also sells ice and wood if required.

The view was breathtaking, the cottages are beautiful inside and very well equipped. Nice hiking trails to do. I would recommend it anytime for the best getaway weekend!

The ideal break away from everything that is everyday. Surrounded by mountains, frolicking in the river with canoes, there are 3 hiking trails, fishing is delicious and relaxing. Stars shine at their brightest. No connection with the outside world. No WiFi / Internet or any signal. It's exceptional. Go with enough stock in terms of food and drinks.
Everything was perfect. Bronwyn and Jock (Jack Russel) received us very kindly. The special care taken for lovely picnics along the river is wonderful. The hiking routes and look-out points are an experience. It is a place to feed one's soul. The stars at night and the silence are food for the soul.
Our weekend at River View Cottages is highly recommended for fellow travelers who love artistic and earthy accommodation in South Africa's beautiful nature. The beautiful cottages with numerous amenities, an indoor fireplace for colder evenings, interesting books and a verandah from which one can spend hours looking out over the winding river and mountains, stole our hearts. We could also have a nice barbecue among the aloes and bacon trees. Thank you very much Colin, Bronwyn and children for sharing your beautiful place with so many.

Best place to enjoy time with the love of your life. Can have a nice swim on the hot days in the river or go rowing in a boat. You feel part of nature.
I am really very sensitive to noise. For me the water pump at the river was a real disturbance. I could never sit down at the river with this noise and even at the cottage it was for me not pleasant. But I am sure for most people it would not be a problem.
River View Cottages is surrounded by mountains and breathtaking views! The place is clean, tidy and very comfortable! Definitely value for money and I would go back any day!

Bronwyn and Colin put so much thought into the cottages. Not only are they super comfortable, well equipped and beautifully designed, but we could not have asked for a more beautiful setting.
River View cottages get a gold star for cleanliness. Everything you need to cook and grill with. We especially enjoyed the fireplace in the room. It's quite a rough dirt road that one ventures on, but it's all worth it to recharge without cell phone reception. All I can recommend is that wood be included because you cannot necessarily bring wood with you.
River View Cottages is really worth it, excellent accommodation and value for money. Quiet an peaceful and magnificent view of the river and mountains. We will definitely call again, and hopefully "Jack" the Jack Russel will be there to welcome us again. Jack made sure no food was wasted.
River View is a piece of paradise where one can relax and calm down again. Beautiful view, quiet environment, good place to forget about the city and get quiet. Calitzdorp is nearby if you need anything. Would love to go back (and stay longer)!
You have to make sure you have everything you need before leaving Calitzdorp. Your directions have to include that the turn-off is with the board Matjiesvlei. Otherwise you pass it first and then have to turn around. The dirt road is not too bad, with a sedan it would have been slow going. The house's amenities are very good. Bed a bit hard but the water was warm and the view wonderful.
It is the best accommodation. The cottage is perfect and it has everything you need. Clean, neat and simple! Would definitely recommend it! Bronwyn and her family are very friendly and helpful. There is so much to do and to see here. It really is a piece of paradise! Will definitely go and relax there again.
