Located on the banks of the river with everything you need! The staff and owner are lovely and very willing to help. The amenities are adequate, our room was cleaned every day, and the view of the river is wonderful. There is a large lawn for children to play on (especially if they have been sitting in a car all day). We will definitely stay at Riverbank Lodge again. Thank you very much for the wonderful three evenings!

We slept there on the way to Namibia. Everything was very neat. However, the beds are a bit worn out and really not suitable for guests in this price range.
As a four-star establishment, we were not impressed at all. We booked a river-front room and were given a dingy little room next to the pool. If you wanted a view of the river, you had to walk down to the river. On arrival, we were met with the ironing ladies in reception doing the linen. This was quite shocking and the first impression was not good at all. When asked if there was no other room available as this is not what we booked, we were told they are full. We just arrived on motorbikes, were hot and thirsty. There was no water in the rooms, or available to purchase, and we were told the only way we can get water was to go into town and buy it - and this from a 4-star establishment! We said that we would complain and would not stay after all as it was nothing close to what was advertised. I assume one of the Managers or Supervisors came to see us and said she had a possible room available for us. You could not compare the two rooms at all. We decided to take the room, phone Mr Delivery and got water and food delivered. The setting was lovely, right on the river and why we were not offered this option goes beyond me. We travel extensively, and this was probably one of our worst experiences.

The reception at Riverbank Lodge was very good. The room was better than expected despite the lack of privacy due to the thin walls. The lodge is well situated on the river bank and this adds to the peaceful atmosphere. Breakfast was adequate and service was prompt and thorough. We will sleep at Riverbank Lodge again.

Riverbank Lodge is on the banks of the Orange River. This suited us as my goal was to take photos of the river.
Good river view from the property, and breakfast is not to be missed. Unfortunately, the aircon was replaced with a small panel heater, but the electric blankets saved the night!
Only stayed one night but service is excellent.
On a hot afternoon on the way home from the Kgalagadi, we were happy to find the Lodge to be an oasis of green. Crystal clear swimming pool, well-maintained lawns and a garden with lots of shade, efficient and friendly staff, and a clean and comfortable room.

There was some confusion about the rooms booked. We needed a room with twin beds for our children, although this was sorted out quite quickly. Lovely garden with a view of the river, great for eating your takeaway dinner.

We enjoyed our time in Upington and largely the Riverbank Lodge served its purpose - a base from where we could see the NC. However there were some big concerns! Given we traveled during Covid one needs to give lodges and places of stay the benefit of doubt but when it comes to cleanliness being greeted by dirty rooms, stale food from previous occupants in the fridge and cockroaches isn’t a great thing! Then to be told we can’t extend our checkout even by a bit because the cleaners will leave by 10am wasn’t a great end to an already disappointing stay. Get the feeling the manager feels she does visitors a favour by giving them a room (has to ask for the wifi password multiple times before she decided to give it to us, unapologetic about battery for gate not working, state of the room, never once asked if we needed anything - had to ask for cutlery, dishwashing soap; also mentioned there was nothing about Upington she knew about and couldn’t help us when we enquired about sight-seeing! I think she needs a little training - it may go a long way in increasing the lodges popularity!
This is the second time we have stayed at River Lodge. The place gives you just that tranquility that you can't find in the city. Will definitely stay there again next year. Food is fantastic and the staff makes you feel very at home.

Beautiful garden, secure parking. View of the river disappointing - not at all like on the web. The general image of Riverbank Lodge created on the web is misleading. The unit is small, bathroom small, bed uncomfortable. Reading lamps give poor light. Breakfast very basic - little variety in menu.
Payment was done and they didn't even have my reservation. Room's curtains don't even close everything, pool was dirty.

We came very tired from the road, the first thing that greets us is the beautiful swimming pool and the 2 friendliest dogs. We had a pretty good swim. Not to mention the delicious breakfast the next morning.

There were stumps in the ashtrays that hadn't been emptied and the pool was full of leaves and insects. The lodge really has so much potential, but I really think it needs to be managed much better. That place's location is wonderful and with the right management, attitude etc. can they really make it a top quality lodge. Don't miss the opportunity. We stayed there on Christmas Day and we were on our own as the lodge was empty. It's location on the banks of the Orange River is absolutely beautiful and River Lodge has so much potential that it actually makes me sad to see the management not letting the place reach its full potential. Small things, cigarette butts in bowls that are not thrown out, swimming pool full of leaves etc. is and bedding bring the place down. You have a beautiful gold mine - just mine it the right way.
The location is great as it has a large lawn overlooking the Orange River (great for braais and picnics). We enjoyed the peace and quiet, sitting in the gardens watching the river. The rooms are a bit dated and are in need of serious redecorating, including the bathroom which had 'rustic' plumbing (i.e. surface mount copper pipes). The furniture is a bit random; i.e. not of common theme. The breakfasts were good but did not have a wide choice, but it was of acceptable standard. Plenty of secure parking, we felt safe. The lawn sprinklers' timing needs to be reprogrammed as they came on at 17:00 in the afternoon, a time when a person will be having a braai or sitting watching the river life. I would in future try another guest house in the area for better value for money. I think it is somewhat overpriced.
