Very cute place and friendly and helpful people. There is everything you need and beautiful gardens too. The only thing to note is that the 4-person cottage doesn't really have a kitchen - only a small fridge, microwave and kettle. There were cups and plates, but no bowls to e.g. canning salad, nor bowls for breakfast porridge. But very nice place otherwise and at a very reasonable price.

We stayed in the farmhouse. It was wonderfully spacious and very comfortable. Well equipped for self-catering with a braai on the covered verandah. Everything we needed was provided. Milk in the fridge, coffee, tea, etc. True South African hospitality. The garden is lovely with plenty of birds. The house is filled with reminders of a bygone era. Less than a kilometre or two from the N1. Ideal for those like us who enjoy the journey through our lovely country.

The photos on the page are not accurate. Although the places are very clean and tidy, they are very old fashioned. There is also a terrible smell in the main house, probably from all the bats that live in the house and fly around. With all the farm murders taking place, we also tried to set the alarm as there are no burglar bars in front of the windows, but the owner called us late at night and asked us to please set the alarm. have to put out.

Incredibly neat. Old farmhouse with thick stone walls very nicely converted into this guest house. We had a nice time under the big trees in the garden while we could watch wildlife and livestock.

Lovely setting and practical location. We were welcomed by the farm foreman. The stoep room is comfortable but small and has no opening windows or privacy. Over-priced for what we got and in comparison with similar stays.
When we arrived, nobody was there to meet us and the phone number just rang. Eventually, some farm workers directed us through a back gate and we found someone with the key. The unit we booked, however, had no water in the kitchen and no cutlery. To their credit, though, we were moved to another bigger unit which was well stocked. It is a lovely bunch of old farm houses and, but for our problems, would make a nice stopover.
Would be nice to have rooibos tea available. Better info is needed on directions from the booking agent.
Interior decoration good and very clean interior and grounds. However, units are dark and bats in roof space which raises health risks. We also did not feel safe because neither the owner nor the manager stays on the premises, fencing does not offer much protection and it happened that the alarm system did not work during load shedding.
We stayed in the 2-bed cottage, which is very spacious and well equipped for overnight stays. We were warmly received upon our arrival and enjoyed the beautiful garden. We were the only guests for the night and felt very safe. Will definitely stay at Riversford again in the future.

We had such an amazing time. The most beautiful farm house with a beautiful kitchen. We booked the farm house and therefore the full farm kitchen was at our disposal, which we were so grateful for. The maid was so kind to make us a nice breakfast on Saturday morning (with our own products that we bought) she even offered to iron our clothes for us before our wedding. Which of course we were so grateful for. Our boy is 18 months old and there is more than enough play space. He could run around without us having to make sure he was safe. There are cute geese, kittens and goats that we enjoyed so much. It is incredibly safe. Just make sure to turn off lights in the evenings and keep windows and doors closed, otherwise you might attract a bat or two. This place is worth its weight in gold! Their service is absolutely superb. If you have a wedding at De Oude Kraal Country Estate this is your closest accommodation.
Beautifully furnished rooms and especially bathtubs are beautiful. Gardens and the surroundings are pleasing to the eye. Farm is very close to the N1 Safe and peaceful with the most beautiful scenery.

The cottage is lovely as are the gardens. The beds are very comfortable and the location to the N1 is very handy. There is a need for a curtain across the front doors to provide privacy. Others have commented similarly. We are international travellers and were caught short with load shedding not knowing its local timetable. Place a printout at reception for you to photograph which is handy. Finally, an improvement upon entry would be a gate entrance procedure, please. I would stay there again when passing.

Riversford is easily the best overnight place that I have ever experienced! Altus and Marieta (sorry if I got your name wrong), made it very very pleasant! Lovely dinner! It is fantastic to stay over on such a farm! The room was top quality and lovely and spacious! Lots of animals for the children to see, space to cycle, water to swim in, space for walks. Really pleasant!

It is a lovely quiet environment and very close to the N1 which is very convenient, because we had to hit the road again early in the morning. Our host, Altus was very helpful and friendly. Everything was nice and clean and in its place. We slept over in the cottage and the decor is certainly pleasing to the eye. Very pretty. Will definitely stay here again and would also recommend it.

Finally we found an ideal place to stay: beautiful homestead and gardens on a farm near the N1.
Visited many guest houses. Why are there dry flowers and little boxes/ornaments, as one only wants a super clean place, without dust collectors. They take the space of my luggage and toiletries. We had to sleep with outside lamp on, shining through glass door. Couldn't find switch. Most frustrating, when you need to drive again next day.
A beautiful working sheep farm, with a lovely 2-bedroomed cottage set in a pretty garden, just off the N1. A perfect overnighter not far from Bloemfontein.
Bathroom light didn't work, struggled with my 2 year old as there was only a shower. There was a terrible strong smell in the room, polish or something but it immediately closed our noses and gave us terrible headaches. The bathroom drain stank. There were no porridge bowls. And the place was terribly small. Because it didn't have a kitchen and wasn't self-catering and there was no place to eat on the premises so we had to drive 30 km into town to be able to eat.
Very neat and refined accommodation on a working farm. Altus provided excellent service. Also upgraded our stay at no cost. Breakfast and the evening's barbecue were delicious. Very well located from N1. Will definitely recommend.

Attended a wedding at De Oude Kraal, Riversford is perfectly situated for overnight accommodation close to the venue. Clean and comfortable room, friendly staff! Breakfast was average for the price.
The unit we stayed in was neat. However, there is only a room and bathroom, so it is definitely only a place to sleep and not a place to visit. It was quite expensive for what we got. For example, if we had stayed in a hotel in Bloemfontein for the same cost, there would have been a bit more amenities. However, if you are looking for a place that is clean and tidy and very quiet to sleep over, this is the right place for you.
