50 guests' feedbackWe spent 4 nights in this idyllic spot with a beautiful view of the Orange River and surrounding mountains. Stayed in Cottage No 1, which was clean, well equipped (only complaint would be that a bread knife would have been useful) and comfortable. Jenny and her husband are wonderful hosts and we were even presented with a delicious freshly baked loaf of bread on our third night there. We made use of the kayaks, although like some previous guests, getting out of the kayak from deep water onto the bank proved quite challenging! The accommodation is right next to the reserve, so it was easy to take walks into the reserve to enjoy the beautiful Richtersveld scenery.
Although rustic, we found the accommodation to be very comfortable, and we enjoyed our stay immensely. The only small gripe is that it is very difficult for us in our mid seventies to get in and out of the kayak. A rope attached to something solid would have helped. We enjoyed walking into the Richtersveld National Park, which is less than 100m away. The stunning beauty was such that we could not help but stare.
If you aren't religious before you drive here in a two-wheel-drive car (in our case a 1989 Nissan 1400 Bakkie), you will be when you hit the road – but heaven awaits the traveller. Riversun Retreat is a piece of paradise! My hubby and I are veteran road-trippers and this is one of the most stunning places we've ever stayed at. An exquisite location and one of the most well-appointed cottages we have ever stayed in, with a charming, hospitable hostess! Overnighting doesn't do the experience justice. Next time we'll stay for a week! Thank you.

Friendly reception. Clean and tidy with very good taste. The most beautiful view of the Orange River. I will visit the place again and again and can recommend it to everyone.
The unit is located in a fantastic location, but the dirt road to get there is challenging when you drive a car that is not a van. The water wasn't hot either, but after I let them know that this was a problem, it was quickly looked into. We arrived there very late in the evening and the hostess stayed awake to receive us kindly despite the late hour. The view is amazing over the Orange River and I will definitely try to book a river view unit next time. We did look for a place just through the border and didn't realize it was so far from the border, but for a holiday destination I would definitely recommend it.
Peaceful break from busy city life, plenty to keep yourself busy and explore.
We had a great stay at Riversun Retreat. Units were neatly furnished. Only unit 2 needed bathroom facilities and a pool.

We really enjoyed our evening at Riversun! Most beautiful location with sunset over the Oranjeriver! The road from Vioolsdrift to the farm is a dirt road. Very clean facilities and Jenny was very helpful!
It's really a place in peaceful beautiful surroundings, to rest, enjoy nature, and recharge your batteries, away from the normal hectic life. The unit has everything needed to be comfortable and the hostess of Riversun Retreat is great and very helpful. Makes you feel at home right away.

We were well received and enjoyed the two evenings there, many places to see in the Richtersveld and along the Orange River.
The road to Riversun is a problem. Condition of road is understandable, but branches of thorn trees hanging in the road scrape vehicles.
Good communication with friendly owner from day one. Accommodation has everything needed and tidy with a nice air conditioner which was needed for our February stay. Our place of residence had a nice braai area and we could buy wood there. Wifi reception was good. For those who appreciate the natural beauty of that area it will be a delightful escape. At the entrance to the Namabieb Nature Reserve. Road is rough in some places but those who know the Richtersveld's roads will not find it strange. Won't just drive the road with a small car. Especially 4x4 guys will find this place ideal.
Was kindly received, was immediately offered to go rowing. We enjoyed it very much. Environment is very beautiful. Suggest staying more than one night to really appreciate the surroundings.

This is a lovely little spot sitting on the banks of the Orange River. Jenny was very friendly and helpful and the setting was very relaxing. We travelled with one 8 year old and one adult child and the bunkbeds were fine. There was a small splash pool in the little courtyard and a braai. We didn't use the splash pool, as it was cold, but this would be quite welcoming in summer. The kitchen is well equipped. WiFi is via satelite so slower than fibre but it was absolutely fine for looking a few things up and checking mail etc.

This was our second time back, this time with friends, and we had the best time. Jenny is so friendly and welcoming, the kitchens are fully kitted out and the splash pools are a great way to stay cool. We really love going to River Sun, we always leave feeling calm and rested.
Good value for money, friendly host, beautiful nature scenes and sounds (Fish eagle). The gravel road is a bit rough but otherwise, it is perfect.
Small convenient apartment. Would next time definitely choose No 1 or 2 as they have a beautiful view of the river, which we missed a bit.

The WiFi was awesome, better than all other guesthouses we stayed in regardless of the location. I'll definitely recommend Riversun, just don't make the mistake of going with a Mercedez-Benz. The Kids enjoyed the play area.
Nature is breathtaking. Accommodation is top notch. If you want to recharge your batteries this is the place. Jenny and her family are excellent hosts. Will definitely be going back there sooner rather than later.

What could be nicer than a peaceful atmosphere for a relaxing break away? Riversun is clean, tidy and safe. Even the children could go for a nice walk and play safely. The service is absolutely great! I would definitely highly recommend Riversun to any traveler who wants a break from the city, and the noise!

Wonderful stay at the entrance to the Richtersveld World Heritage Site. We enjoyed the lemons from the old tree in our gin and tonics.
The owner is friendly and helpful and it is secluded and peaceful.
We had so much fun around our braai fire and cooled off in the pool. The river and mountains are picture perfect. We rested well.

For people needing a break from all the hustle and bustle this is the place to go.
To witness historical surroundings such as the drawings of the khoi-san.
Neat, clean facilities, well furnished and very friendly service. Barbecue packages with quality meat and even side dishes were presented carelessly. The 21 km zinc-plate dirt road is not the nicest path.
Free internet is indicated. However, the internet connection was so poor that we could only communicate with family via WhatsApp. No calls. The bathrooms are also not en suite. You had to leave the accommodation to get to the bathroom. The 21 km dirt road to RiverSun Retreat is in extremely poor condition, even for someone like me who grew up on dirt roads. Well beautiful surroundings.
It was just the place to recharge dead batteries. The hospitality of the landlady was wonderful.
