50 guests' feedbackThe natural beauty is harsh and merciless, but what makes it beautiful and soft are the thousands of springboks, the many beautiful facilities that preserve history and the friendly people. The time was lost there and we didn't think about work for one moment. Thank you very much for a nice place.
Had a great stay, was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the meals.
We enjoyed every moment. From stargazing to cheetahs. Eben was so friendly and helpful. What a pleasant experience.
We really enjoyed our 2 days at Rogge Cloof. Don't plan activities in Sutherland, it's quite a distance and would recommend staying in town for a day or so. But, if you're on Rogge Cloof, you don't have to go anywhere. There are so many activities right there. Eben was a very good tour leader and took us to the Cheetahs as well as taking care of the evening's stargazing. Very knowledgeable and friendly.
We had a wonderful stay at Rogge Cloof. Loved the peace and quiet, as well as the beauty of the reserve. The stargazing and astrophotography was superb. Eben was very knowledgeable and pitched it perfectly for us novice stargazers.
We went for a little snow trip, and it was amazing. Rogge Cloof is so cozy and perfect for experiencing the Sutherland snow. The food was amazing, and the staff was so friendly and helpful.
I was simply looking for a place to stay out of town for stargazing and a little me-time and found so much more than anticipated. Upon arrival, the host came out to greet with a refresher towel and option of a welcome juice or sherry. The original farm house is certainly worth touring, especially with such passionate, proud, and innately hospitable staff. One should actually stay a few days and take full advantage of all that Rogge Cloof has to offer: MTBing, Hiking, Stargazing, Birdwatching, Cheetah tracking, Wine tasting, Gin tasting, Springbok feeding, History Tours. And you don't even need to leave the premises as catering is available (dinner-bed-breakfast package plus à la carte lunch) as well as self-catering units should you prefer. The Orion Suites are generously equipped with a gas stove for boiling water for tea/coffee or to fill the hot water bottles, a wood-burning stove for warmth (wood provided), a very comfortable bed and bedding, plenty of blankets, towels, and natural drinking water. Another little welcome sherry sets the stage on the wooden deck for a magnificent landscape view where the stars (and springbok) are visible from horizon to horizon. A really nice touch was the field guide printed out in the Suite, showing the different species of birds and wildlife in the area.
Definitely a hidden gem in the Karoo, we are already planning our next visit. One night is definitely not enough.
Amazing friendly staff in the middle of nowhere and excellent chef.
What a pleasant experience. The place is beautiful and peaceful. Our guide and host went out of his way to provide a special stargazing experience, and it was so special. An absolute effort is made to ensure that one's visit is off the books.
Had a great stay, thank you. Received personal attention from reception. One problem was ladies couldn't use hair dryers due to only solar power. Not proper bedside lights either. Also too few carpets in bedrooms and bathrooms. Furthermore, everything is very neat and well equipped.
It's an incredibly nice experience and such a nice surprise! More than we expected, would go back anytime.
Rogge Cloof was an experience in every way. Beautiful place, with staff who carry you on their hands.
It was very nice and the accommodation was also very neat and well furnished.
Had a great time, thank you!
What a gem between nowhere and somewhere, weather played along and stargazing was amazing.
Food was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. Couldn't do the (cheetah draw) which was main reason for booking there.
Certain aspects of our stay were excellent. The cheetah visit and star gazing were excellent. Their cab sav is also excellent. A big negative for me was the distance from the main road to the lodge. Because of this we only stayed for 1 night and not 2 as booked. We have activities in Sutherland and did not want to drive along the road at night. The room was also cold and insufficient free wood was supplied.
It is a beautiful place, stunning. It rained so well there. Very hospitable and their food was very tasty. Will stay there again.
Good service, stay in old barber's house was excellent.
A very beautiful and stylish destination, highly efficient and friendly staff (Cara you are an angel!). Meals were exceptional, served in a magnificent dining room with a crackling fire. Full moon overexposed the sky, without losing the magic! Well done Team Rogge Cloof, be proud of all you achieve and present.
Friendly, warm welcome. Admin was very quick and then we were on our way to our kayak for the weekend. What a pleasant surprise. Of course, the fireplace was immediately lit and not long after that the biltong soup was hot and the red wine was open. Comfortably furnished. Enough warm blankets for the brrrrr nights. Nice sweet borehole water to drink. Very strong Wi-Fi signal, no problems with it. Top notch customer service. We just wanted to suggest a few things? 1) With respect to the age of the house, we would like to suggest that the windows and the door in the room are sealed more thoroughly. The wind comes in badly and the room gets super cold. The fireplace's heat cannot warm the whole place because of this. 2) From a kitchen perspective. Just one or two more smaller pots for those who want to cook smaller (like for example for 2 people) and then just an extra pan. The sink was a challenge, but we won it. Furthermore, it was super super special, especially when the snow fell and we could enjoy the tranquility and the beauty of nature in such an awesome place. You will definitely see us again and again in the winter.
Excellent food. Beautiful location. Great staff.
We thoroughly enjoyed the accommodation and restaurant and will definitely go back to Rogge Cloof.
This was an amazing stay in Sutherland to go and see SALT. Great accommodation and the restaurant dinner was excellent. The staff were fantastic. Cara and Henry, thank you.
This is one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. Fantastic service, delicious meals and beautiful rooms. They also make delicious wines.
Rogge Cloof is a beautiful nature reserve in the Sutherland area. There are large herds of springbok to be seen, even inside the lodge area. The house we stayed in (Oryx) is very nice and spacious. The staff is very competent and friendly.
We just wanted to stretch out in the karoo.
Beautiful, most beautiful view from my bed. Remote, would recommend for longer than a day or two.
Staff go out of their way to make you feel at home.
Unique location, peaceful, great service, excellent food and wine tasting a must.
We were very pleasantly surprised. The accommodation is luxurious and beautifully located. Staff very nice and we really enjoyed the wine tasting, stargazing and walking. Food was delicious prepared by a young, talented chef. We were also able to watch the rugby at the main building which was nice and informal with the staff. Would definitely recommend it to people who like tranquility and beautiful nature.
We were taken care of from the moment Sumari welcomed us. Rogge Cloof has an incredible amount to offer. We did the Nature and Fossil Drive, Star Gazing and wine tasting. Cara, who took us on all the trips, knows her story and her enthusiasm is contagious. She went to great lengths (including taking us to see the cheetahs that were at the boma) and ensured that we had an unforgettable weekend.
Customer service is amazing. Thank you team and especially Cara.
The dinner as well as the breakfast were tasty. The chef knows his story. The wine from Rogge Cloof is recommended. The service is excellent. The chalet is very well equipped with a lovely fireplace and more than enough wood.
Staff very pleasant and helpful.
Definitely recommend!
We would like to say a big thank you to Andre and the staff for exceptional service and hospitality. We were privileged to experience the snow but with the outcome our bakkie could not get out of the bump which was covered in snow and Andre helped us out with his experience. Thank you very much.
It was snow time and the gas heaters didn't work so we couldn't take a shower that night. We tried again the next morning and it didn't work then either. The unit sleeps 4. We were 3. Friends of ours (two people) wanted to join. We asked if we could bring two extra persons, and were willing to pay for the (one) extra person, but this was not allowed, even though there was more than enough room to accommodate an extra person. We were prepared to bring our own bedding for the extra person etc. This in snow time, when space in Sutherland is very limited. At R4000 per night.
It was very cold but the accommodation is wonderfully cosy.
Was very kindly received on the farm! We arrived late, but Corlia was ready for us and soon made us feel at home! Accommodation is excellent with everything needed - even a fireplace in the unit that helps with the cold of Sutherland! Stars were breathtaking! Will be back again!
Beautiful place! Our family was lucky to be able to play in the snow, it was almost a winter wonderland. Management very friendly and hospitable.
My family and I were really impressed by the level of service we received from everyone at Rogge Cloof. Our game driver, André, aka Oom Piet, was really entertaining and tried his best to prevent us from freezing on the drive. Anna-Marie was very welcoming and made us feel right at home when we arrived and when we left. The accommodation was perfect, thanks to the fireplaces that we kept burning from the time we arrive till the time we departed. I really need to get me one of those fire places! Driving to the lodge/cottage through the reserve was amazing, even while driving my hatchback Hyundai i20. We're looking forward to visiting again, hopefully we'll get some snow the next time we visit!
I lost a piece of my heart in the Karoo! Rye Cloof is a piece of heaven or earth. I am very grateful and privileged to have discovered this! Will definitely be back as soon and often as possible!
It was wow from the beginning to the end! Very friendly staff, and we have to single out André. He welcomed us on Sunday afternoon 14:00 like honoured guests. We can recommend Rogge Cloof to any traveller. Clean, neat and delicious breakfast with friendly staff.
We got the best treatment from our arrival to our departure. The staff was amazing. The house is cosy. The beds are for kings. The fireplace was the high point, with more than enough wood and snow. We'll visit again.
Great management and staff. Friendly and they go the extramile for guests. The accommodation is very neat and has everything you need. Saw a large variety of game and birds. Will definitely recommend Rogge Cloof.
Rogge Cloof was an unexpected stroke of luck that struck us. We decided to go to Sutherland just a day before and then decided on Rogge Cloof. This is a fantastic place! The farm is 16 hectares and they are part of the Black Sky Reserve which means that there are no outside lights in the evening and they use solar energy. The people there are fantastic. Rather, it feels like you are visiting good friends. From the reception area where you pick up your keys, it is another 11 km to the cottages where you live. It is dead quiet and you get absolute peace for your soul. There is a lot of wildlife (mostly goats) and many paths that you drive around to see them. The cottages are fantastically equipped, with large windows to be able to experience the surroundings. Breakfast was also included in the rate, which was a pleasant experience. All the staff are very friendly! We are only sorry that we could only stay for one night! We will definitely see Rogge Cloof again soon, but next time it will be for longer!
A place away from the rat race. A place where you can find yourself away from your mobile phones etc.
Excellent people, excellent location, but expected more for the price they charged for this place. Having visited hundreds of similar places before, this was truly the most expensive offering for what we got. Nothing wrong with it - Amanda and Andre specifically was great as well, breakfast was excellent and the location is superb, but not worth R3800 per night for 4 adults. No gas heaters available in unit either.
