Rondegat Cottages

Accommodation is offered in well-equipped self-catering cottages, with stunning views over the dam, and a 3-bedroom private Lake View House. The smallest cottage has its own private plunge pool, and the other cottages have access to a shared swimming pool. Bedding is supplied, however, not towels.
In the springtime, visitors can delight in the sight of thousands of beautiful flowers bursting to life in Clanwilliam, the Biedouw Valley and the surrounding areas. This area is a bird watchers paradise, and one can often hear the call of the osprey echoing over the water. A 15 km 4x4 trail winds through the fynbos, and affords beautiful views over the mountain and valley.
Boats can be launched, at no extra charge, at Rondegat. There are also 2 canoes available for guests' use for free, so don't forget to pack fishing rods. ( Note that we have low water levels during late summer, please enquire if boats can be launched.) Guests can bring their own mountain bike or boat, or simply relax at the poolside and enjoy the silence at this family resort.
Rondegat is just 14 km from the historic town of Clanwilliam, and is the ideal base for day trips to the northern and southern Cederberg, Lamberts Bay, and Elands Bay.

115 guests' feedbackExcellent view, and very neat unit. I'm not sure what the other units at Rondegat look like, but this one was brand new and had everything we needed. We had a very nice stay. An issue with the brand new microwave not working properly was followed up and resolved very quickly.
We had a very nice stay. Clean and tidy. Would go there again anytime.
Very, very nice and peaceful. We will definitely go again.
Peaceful accommodation in quiet surroundings at a quiet time of year.
Best getaway we've had in a long time. The owners are very friendly and the accommodation was clean, more than enough utensils in the kitchen and lovely beds to sleep on. The setting just about took your breath away, and perfect timing with all the flowers out too. Our 2 boys rode MTB, canoeing and were just never bored. Already forwarded to our friends and planning our next visit.
Except for the 14km dirt road, everything was beautiful. We had to drive out to school every morning but I think for a quiet quick getaway (without driving around) Rondegat is perfect! Very peaceful, beautiful and you have everything you need.
Our house had 2 bathrooms, which is great when travelling with friends. It had all you would need, except you had to take towels. A perfect braai area with a stunning view of the sun setting over the dam. You can walk around between the daisies.
It was beautiful, peaceful and extremely safe.
New and clean cottage. Everything worked as it should. Great view of dam and very safe and comfortable surroundings. Most enjoyable overnight stay.
It was a very beautiful place. Would love to go again, just suggest that if staying more than one night they should offer cleaning services. It really is a very neat place to stay.
Kind of. Just remember your own towels and soap.
Not a bad stay for the price. The Algeria road to the accommodation is very bad, the road from Clanwilliam is much better. The accommodation itself is limited but has the necessary. For a place where it touches 40°C plus, one would expect aircons. The chalets are about 400m from the water where you can launch your boat. The road down to the dam could be improved a bit. There are many horses on the farm and therefore also very many flies, so take fly candles etc. Wood and ice can be bought on the farm, which is very convenient. If you want to get out of the busy city, it is very nice.
Beautiful surroundings. It was very peaceful. The accommodation is very outdated - the bedding definitely needs to be replaced. There are no extras like hand soap, toilet paper, and they even require you not to use double-ply toilet paper. There wasn't even coffee, sugar and milk for the first night. All guest houses definitely provide this to make you feel extra at home. They also did not provide matches for the gas bottle.
Our only complaint is a relatively small one but we found it very strange to be told to bring our own towels. We have stayed in many self-catering, guest houses and B&B's and this is a first. Also the very first time we have been asked to pay a deposit in cash which will be refunded at a later date to our banking account.
The accommodation was neat and comfortable and we loved the stoep with its beautiful view over the dam. Unfortunately, we were so busy driving around, we would love to relax on the stoep and enjoy the views and big variety of birds. I will love to book there again.
Nice and quiet, neat and comfortable. Close to the dam and could go for a nice walk.
Small but well-equipped cottages with basic furnishings. Clean and comfortable for a family of four.
It was nice and clean, if there is what you need. Owners are very friendly and pleasant.
Great paddling on the dam. Nice barbecue spots on the shore. Neat and clean.
Solar lights that can work during loadshedding can be recommended. Pool deliciously warm and just the right size.
Nice place to break away to.
Everything you need for a nice visit is there. The hostess is helpful and was in contact with us before the visit. After the many rains, the road was not good, but an ordinary car can drive it. The horses eating in front of the cottage was a big bonus for our little girl and there are easy walking trails down to the pond. Would love to visit again in the summer.
Really nice 2-bedroom cottage with everything you need. There is a field with horses as your view in front of the cottage. We went in April and would have been nice to have some water in the dam.
Good place, lovely sunset view.
The setting was wonderful and beautiful. One can have a nice walk, feed the horses grass and go out on a canoe. Our bed was just very hard and creaky, the pillows were all very high too.
I would not recommend it for a "last minute" choice. The surroundings are beautiful, but the value for money falls short. The biggest advantage was that we could take our dogs with us. And there is a cash deposit payable of R400 if something breaks. It would have been great if there was a bag of coffee. The hostess did provide us with towels and a pack of matches for the primus. Also take your own life jackets with you if you are going to use the canoes.
Very spacious unit, ideal for 2 families. Nicely furnished. Dirt road I would not recommend with a car!!
Location nice, but the dirt road very bad.
We landed and had to pay a deposit of R400 in cash. They did not ask for our bank details for reimbursement, nor did we receive them back. Four horrible, orange, rock hard, old towels, and they claim we stole one. Who wants this present?! Our friends from Belgium were just as disappointed! And what a way to introduce our country to them. All 5 other places were off the books. All that was beautiful was the view. The road to get there is horrible. No coffee, sugar, tea or biscuits like at all the other places. I would not recommend anyone to go there, and the owners attitude towards us was so negative.
Absolutely lovely stay at Rondegat Cottages. The cottage we stayed in was clean and very well-kept. The farm itself is also very well-kept. The host is very friendly and helpful. To the inexperienced (like myself), just a little heads up, the cottage is on a 14 km dirt road. Make sure that your car is okay to handle slightly rough terrain. Plan your stay and what you will eat/drink every day that you are at Rondegat. Make sure that you pack enough food/cooldrinks and essentials so that you don't have to take unnecessary drives to the shop for a few things. It's a far drive and it will be a waste of your time spent at Rondegat Cottages. You could be relaxing by the pool or river instead! PS: Rondegat Cottages does sell wood and ice. Make sure you pack in mosquito repellent. Rondegat Cottages will definitely see us again.
Environment and people very friendly, hope to visit again soon. Particularly beautiful view of the dam from my porch and braai area.
We were 6 people in House no. 2 (3-bedroom for 8 people). Everything we needed, very nice and clean, with a lovely barbecue area outside. Very friendly reception. Was lovely to be able to walk down to the dam, and paddle the canoes as a bonus. Another bonus is the wood and ice that you could pre-order and then deliver to your home. We will definitely stay at Rondegat again. Thank you very much!
My friends and I enjoyed a wonderful three night stay, spending time at the dam and at the house where the pool and braai area was immensely enjoyed. The sunsets over the dam are particularly spectacular.
We stayed 2 nights at Rondegat Cottages as a group of 5 adults. Upon our arrival we were warmly welcomed by the owner. Spacious rooms and best of all was cooling off in the pool after a hot day with the most beautiful view. Will definitely book there again. Thank you very much.
Our cottage had the most amazing view over Clanwilliam Dam. The sunset was something special and must be experienced! AnnMarie our hostess went out of her way to make our stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Our family of 4 had a great time and would stay there again.
All problem we had is the grill outside. It was not very clean. We had to clean it before we could use it.
The pool, trees and lawns certainly helped with the heat.
They were helpful and make me and my fellow guests feel welcome.
Great to be able to paddle around the lake, see the horses and interact with the dogs. Not ideal as an immobility venue, but great for people who can walk easily.
The area where Rondegat is located is very beautiful and peaceful with a lovely view of the dam, but the self-catering unit needs a bit of attention, as well as the linen needs a bit of an upgrade. Unit is also not supplied with towels. I would suggest that the owner also look into alternative power supply. We were without power for over 12 hours and the owner didn't even make contact to find out if we needed anything or indicate what was the reason for the outage. Only the next day we were helped with a small gas bottle to at least be able to drink a coffee. On our first night, the sink in the kitchen packed up and wouldn't drain.
Lovely for young and older kids.
Very beautiful and quiet.
Great location right by pond. Beautiful nature. Great hiking trails and canoes. Very neat accommodation with everything you need. Safe for children to run around and explore. Pet friendly if arranged.
Rondegat Cottages is the perfect place to switch off from the town or city rush.
Rondegat's houses are beautiful and beautifully located next to the dam. Although dirt road from Citrusdal and to Clanwilliam it is the only road you drive kilos and kilos along the dam. N7's people cannot perceive it.
The surroundings are beautiful and accommodation is right by the dam. It is 17 kilometers from Clamwilliam on a dirt road. However, the unit was really small with only one bathroom. We booked for six and although there were enough beds/mattresses we had to make a bed for the children in the living area. Towels are not provided either. It's not really what we were looking for, but I believe if you are 4 people with a boat or love for water sports it will more than meet your requirements.
Rondegat is conveniently located halfway up the Clanwilliam dam, between the Algeria turnoff from the N7 and Clanwilliam. It is easily accessible if your vehicle is suitable for corrugated iron roads. Spectacular setting, very peaceful.
The cottages are just too full of dust and cobwebs. Cottages are against horse stables and it's only moped flies in the cottages. You may not listen to music softly. They are unfriendly and rude.
Although we were there in December and the hottest time of the year, it was still enjoyable because you could participate in water sports and there was a pool available to cool off. Rondegat is also close enough to Clanwilliam for shopping as the kiosk only supplies ice and wood.
My husband and I went up with a friend for the long weekend, and we also took our little old doggy with us. The cottage and grounds were clean and well-kept, the kitchen well-outfitted and the braai area and seating perfect for our needs. We loved having the farm dogs, Willis and Rambo, visiting us every day - Willis even stayed late every evening so that we could throw a stick for him to fetch! They are very well-behaved and socialised and very patient with other dogs. Pets are welcome by arrangement, and our Nala had a lovely time pretending that she was a bush hound - the long walks we took every day and the fresh air made her seem so much younger than her 13 years, and it was great seeing her having such a good time in her twilight years. The dam/river tributary was beautiful and, even though we're not watersport enthusiasts, there are lovely picnic areas (and even braai facilities) at the water's edge where you can sit and unwind while listening to the water lapping and enjoying the breeze. We really enjoyed watching people waterski on the water. Anne-Marie and her husband were super kind and helpful, and it was a pleasure meeting them. Rondegat is the perfect place if you want to relax, enjoy beautiful nature and scenery, and have a little taste of farm life. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Had a wonderful weekend on the picturesque farm. The 4x4 route was beautiful. Incredible view from porch. Safe, clean and friendly help. Perfect for water sports as well as enjoying the outdoors.
The place was very beautiful, the view, the tranquility. Everything was provided. The place was neat.
It is a peaceful place. We stayed in the Lake View house and it has a very nice view of the pond.
Would definitely recommend Rondegat if you just want to get away and rest. If you have a boat, this is the place. You can have fun on the Olifants River. If the two-bedroom unit is available next year, we will definitely be back.
We were upgraded to a two bedroom unit. Was the first unit in a row of 4. Very nice. Quiet. A few horses for neighbors and the pretty pond. We were able to make a delicious braai. We felt safe.
See stars.
Kothuis-1 is nice and spacious with no neighbors. The view over the dam is very beautiful.
Nice and quiet - almost farm like Only thing is the deposit - although it was mentioned in the small print of the listing I think that they should relook this practise
I don't think it meets all the requirements. All other places we stayed at had soap and hand soap. Despite being a self-catering unit, there is no coffee/tea etc. not. Other places have it. The surprise that we had to provide our own towels was great. Not aware of it, luckily it was provided for us.
Really love Clanwilliam and it's a great destination for a family. Unfortunately there was an incident with I think the owner which ended the whole weekend on a horrible note. He couldn't introduce himself or say hello, but so nice and rude rushed us out at the dam bank at 11:00 after no one told us that we had to be away from the whole farm by 11:00. We checked out of our accommodation at 9:00 as per the rules. If you don't want people on your site at 11:00 then you have to make them tweet before you chase them away like dogs after they apologize for it.
One positive aspect is the location by the dam, and the sunset over the mountains. Negative aspect is at the horse stable/camp with a lot of flies, the ceiling fans, except the one in the master bedroom did not make any impression and could definitely be upgraded. The small pool for 5 sleeping units, there were 12 people, was really disappointing.
Rondegat Cottages, very well located. My daughter had a great time frolicking in the "splash pool" in front of her guard dogs, the farm dogs - thank you Charlie and Willice - they looked after her very well. The owners were very friendly and helpful. My husband and I were able to kayak quietly and enjoy nature. My only complaint is that the weekend was over so quickly. I will definitely go again ─ this time for much longer.
Rondegat Cottages is a fantastic place to just break away for the weekend or longer. We enjoyed every moment there. We didn't even want to come back after the weekend. We intend to go back there again soon in the year.
It was a very lovely stay. The cottage was clean. If you are looking for some peace and quiet at a beautiful destination this is definitely a great pick. The hosts are very accommodating.
We had a lovely stay. The view from the cottage is great and it is so close to the boat entry into the dam. We enjoyed the free use of the canoe. The cottage is very clean and comfortable. We recommend bringing a fly catcher for extra comfort, because the beautiful horses behind the cottage may attract the flies we experienced. Other than that, everything was really great.
All the basic necessities were available and in usable condition. Stayed 4 nights and never felt it had to end now. Not even with just the moon as a source of power. Good base for exploring the area, given you have the necessary vehicle. Can also recommend it to the guys who just want to sit and stare!
Relax with the call of the fish eagle.
For the price you pay, the place needs some TLC. The showers were not clean. Furthermore, we had a very nice stay and it was food for the soul.
We made a mistake with our booking. Wanted to go to another place, but found out we booked at Rondegat. At first we were unhappy, but then we enjoyed Rondegat. We make use of many cottages, lodges and guest houses. Don't know why, but there is no tea, coffee, milk or towels at this place. First place in our wanderings that we didn't get these basics and we also had to pay R200 for breakages. Perhaps the owners may have already suffered damage by providing it, but drinking a brandy for morning coffee was not fun. However, is a very nice place.
We decided to visit the Clanwilliam flowers on a whim, and this was the only accommodation that was available - and after visiting we can see why. The location is lovely, and the place is clean. I can say that much. But this cottage advertises place for five people, and these five people would have to know each other very well. The fittings are the cheapest, the facilities are the barest minimum, the bathroom is so small that a large person cannot turn around, the luke-warm shower overflows onto the floor, the bedding consists of a coverlet so thin it is almost transparent, the fifth bed is a concrete bunk in the lounge, the cutlery is so cheap that the fork bends under the weight of the food. Most importantly, though, make sure you read the fine print of your accommodation contract very carefully. All in all, this is a lovely setting that is ruined by lackluster management, spending the absolute minimum on guest comfort while extracting the maximum profit.
The house offers a view of the dam without water. It was quite a shock! Practical house.
Excellent service.
See stars.
Nice, very peaceful accommodation next to the damn. Friendly owners. Will definitely stay there again.
Very nice location. Quiet and beautiful views all around you. Thank you very much for a pleasant visit.
Had an awesome weekend. We stayed in the larger chalet which was perfect and well equipped.
What an lovely environment.
We stayed in a beautiful cottage that was pet friendly and had an awesome little plunge pool overlooking the Clanwilliam dam. Lovely hosts and incredibly beautiful spot.
Was wonderlik om daar te bly, mense en diere is baie vriendelik, al probleem was die 15 km grondpad daarheen, met 'n gewone kar nie lekker nie, maar als was fabulous.
We really thoroughly enjoyed the holiday at Rondegat Cottages. The peaceful environment, nature, friendly people and the location were exactly what made one completely relax.
Rondegat exceeded all our expectations. It's a piece of paradise we discovered and we definitely recommend. Here you can be one with nature and take inventory of your thoughts.
Very peaceful. Cottage 1 has a lovely view and its own plunge pool. Just a pity it wasn't swimming weather. Safe area and neat, well equipped accommodation.
We had a lovely stay and owners could not have been more helpful and nice.
Loved it. Would just have been nice to be able stay beyond 12 noon/13h00 on a Sunday!
Clean, peaceful, very beautiful.
From our arrival it was all peace and quiet. Ann-Marie and Charl exceeded our expectations and we thoroughly enjoyed our few days. Even our two dogs made friends with the 2 farm dogs and went everywhere together. See you again soon.
Convenient house and nice around the fireplace. We were social on the last evening. Very hospitable and friendly.
Baie lekker ontspan.
Reception was friendly and able to go to our homes immediately, even though we were there earlier than the normal check-in time. View and surroundings breathtaking. We had a good rest and the pool is top class. There is just enough of everything in the kitchen, if you are looking for more feel free to take it with you. Bedding a bit old and slept on our own bedding instead. Thank you very much.
Stayed in chalet no 1. Neat, clean with sufficient equipment in kitchen and braai area. The view over the dam is incredibly beautiful. Although you are not at the dam, the splash pool makes up for it and you can cool off in your own private pool. You can walk down to the dam where rowing boats are made available for you to use. Wasn't impressed with the refund process for the break and key deposit as it is only refunded to your bank account a few days after your departure and one wonders what will happen if there is a dispute. You are not provided with a list of items that are in the chalet, so you cannot check items on arrival and departure to avoid possible disputes. Something the owners might look into. Also suggest that the owner or someone accompanies you to the chalet to show you where everything is. It makes it just that little bit more special, otherwise it just feels like a business transaction. It is also possible to look at the arrival time. 15:00 is a little late and you feel that more than half of the day has already passed, for which you bear a full day's cost. Apart from the little things, it was very pleasant and I will visit the place again.
Expected more, the interior of the unit definitely needs more attention. Furniture and linen are definitely not up to standard. No extras. Can't recommend.
I have nothing to add, except that, despite initial assistance with our car breakdown and calling people in town, the hosts were particularly unaccommodating when we asked for further assistance. The road to the venue is particularly bad and there was no fore warning. The swimming pool looked rather unclean.
Wouldn't recommend staying there if you are a large group of people. We were there for the Red Bullet Sport Week and the owners were not very accommodating when our friends from Lebanon (campsite next door) to braai with us. The 13 km dirt road was also not very pleasant to drive every day. There is also no water in the dam, so boating is out.
Very beautiful, peaceful and ideal for any person or couple.
Wow! Can highly recommend Rondegat. Worth every penny!
Had a good rest. Beautiful place. Really grew to love those 2 dogs.
The 2 sleeper cottage offers a nice peaceful and private getaway that makes you feel like you are far from the busy city. It also has a nice view over the dam and the sunset over the mountains.
See stars.
We really had a lovely weekend getaway. The cottage was perfectly located, fantastic view! Great playground for children, pooja played every night! Would recommend to any family.
Owners can consider putting a fan or aircon in the rooms.
Unbelievably great accommodation. The little house's private splash pool is so nice. You can really relax here an dthe view over the dam from the swimming pool and the patio is amazing. The check out time could be moved with about an hour and a half. 9:00 is very early.
Friendly reception and immediately checked in. Accommodation was very convenient and has a stunning view. Will go relax there again.
Quiet environment. The kitchen was very well equipped.
We really enjoyed the silence and friendliness of the owners. The dam is breathtaking and beautiful to look at. We really enjoyed the accommodation and facilities.
Reception was pretty good. The unit is nice and private and comfortable with everything you need except TV reception.
Very nice and comfortable.
I enjoyed my stay. The view is amazing. The cottage is basic but functional and clean. The bedrooms are dark due to the material blind. I would have loved to open my blind and enjoy the view and still enjoy privacy. A practical vertical blind that allows sun and a view and at the same time privacy is a better option. I hope the owners will consider this suggestion. A coffee percolator or plunger would be a welcome added bonus.
The accommodation was comfortable but it was noisy with a water pump going close to our cottage almost all the time and also as the cottages are in the front part of a big barn any sound the neighbors make it echoed. I also still have not received back my breakage deposit but this is probably due to the public holidays. The owners are very friendly and the dam and pool are lovely to swim in. It's also really nice to make use of the canoes provided by the owners. Great for bird watchers. Didn't catch any fish though.
See the stars.
