Beautiful peaceful Karoo sheep farm. Stay beautiful and tidy and make you long to visit Grandma Oppie's farm. Our hostess is a beautiful person who took us for a walk with the dogs in the late afternoon. Just remember the nearest shop in town and it's self-service.

We spent one night on the Rooidam farm with family. The house was clean, comfortable, well equipped (also with heating) and very tastefully decorated. Also suitable for long stays. Solar panels, water safe to drink. Magazines to read, coffee, tea, milk and home-made rusk available. The farm is peaceful and beautiful, a real Karoo experience! The hosts are very friendly, taking care of the guests. Swings and climbing wall for kids (our teenagers enjoyed it too).

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was an extremely hot day, and we were so grateful to be able to cool off at the pool. The owners go beyond great professionalism in that they go out of their way to ensure you enjoy their place. I loved that the mattresses and bedding were of really good quality; we all slept well. Thank you! We were also pleasantly surprised that there's an option to go onto the roof for star-gazing; it's such a treat! I enjoyed the reading material and the option to play a quick game of tennis.

Ideal location for an oasis in the Karoo if you are traveling between Pretoria and Cape Town. The place is beautiful and well equipped, we had a wonderful rest. Even the bit of dirt road off the highway was in very good condition for our sedan car.

One small thing - As a single traveler I chose to sleep on single bed - bed kept me awake with creaking noises when I moved. Maybe pay attention to strengthen base of bed.
An oasis in the Karoo. One is blown away by what has been created there. It's really great accommodation with luxuries like solar & WiFi. Covered parking in the merciless Karoo heat is an added convenience.

The stay was very pleasant. There is room to go jogging with, if the name didn't make it clear, a pond to swim in. Solar power is a huge bonus, so you don't have to worry about load shedding when you stay here (by the way, you don't have to feel guilty about using the air conditioning either). Very nice.
I booked the place for my elderly parents and a friend who was accompanying them. Even beforehand, the hostess was particularly helpful in meeting all their needs. But what they got exceeded all their expectations. They were received with open arms and warmth. They especially couldn't get enough of the variety of fruit and other trees. They feel that my husband and I must also spend the night there. Thank you for the effort you made.

This was our first visit to Rooidam, but it is definitely going to be a fixed overnight stop in our future trips to Gauteng, even when touring, as they also have very nice campsites. It is always pleasant when one can live so peacefully and safely with such kind and warm-hearted people in these days.
I like staying at Rooidam because the owners care about service and it's nice to go back to a place where you know you'll get nice amenities and personal attention. I once again had a wonderful stay and André and Bonquet are stalwarts - thank you very much.
We stayed two nights. It was a lovely visit on the farm. Although it was bitterly cold, we were cozy in the house. I ordered the meat package a little too late, then the hostess defrosted it for us without us asking. They put in a lot of extra effort. I will definitely stay there again.

The service is great, Andre kept me updated from time to time. Directions, code for the gate, load shedding schedule, we could even have come in the morning to watch pigeons being released by one of the guests. Got the most delicious biscuits and oranges. My children were very surprised to see oranges growing on a tree for the first time, we even went to pick some oranges for them. We will visit you again - definitely!

It is an ideal spot for halfway from the North West to the Cape. Very nice place with everything you need.
Our night in the Granaathuisie was particularly pleasant and comfortable. Braai facilities are available. One can cool off in the farm pond and walk around the farm and explore the Karoo landscape. The fresh pomegranates were a delicious experience. We will definitely stay again if there is an opportunity.

Travelling through the Karoo, this is a great overnight stay. Very central, cosy and safe. Lovely hosts. The farm has a stunning clean dam to swim in, beautiful fruit trees and Bonquet makes amazing apricot jam! Well worth the stay! We will most definitely stay with them again.

We stayed over in the charming Bloubos cottage on our way to Cape Town. Beautiful sunset and our son enjoyed the jungle gym and looking at the sheep. A note for sensitive sleepers - the fridge in our cottage was on the noisy side (the single beds are in the same room as the fridge and the double is through an open doorway).

We were welcomed by Bonquet who was friendly and very hospitable. She showed us around the nearby farm and allowed us to use their tennis court. My teenagers loved that. Bonquet told us the history of the farm and their family. The cottage was neat, clean and well laid out. Only let down was the Wi-Fi which was too weak to use in the cottage. Cellular data was faster. Loved seeing the birds, dogs, ducks, chickens and the rooster. The rooster woke us up at 04:00 with his crowing. Lovely farm experience.

I can recommend Rooidam Cottages to anyone who wants to spend the night on a peaceful Karoo farm after a long journey. Granat cottage is very well equipped with even an electric blanket which we enjoyed for the winter evening. They had biscuits and coffee in the room for us for the next morning's early departure. We were kindly received and would like to visit there again. Maybe just stay longer so we can walk more.

Campsite is tidy with its own log cabin containing a single gas stove and kettle. Also includes gas shower, sink and toilet. If pretty neat. Can recommend anytime. There is also a very cute little house that one can book if camping does not stir your heartstrings, or if you want to camp and your mother-in-law is also touring. Feel free to swim in the cool farm pond.

Rooidam is the one place we sleep over and over again, and will always go back to. It is so beautiful and peaceful. We had a great barbecue, and the next morning one of the hens came to lay an egg in the barbecue area. It was so cute.

We and our 2 weimaraners were immediately welcomed by Bonquet Raath. The place was neat and clean and smelled nice, with the most beautiful wildflowers on the table. The most beautiful view from the stoepie to the Rooidam and the windmills. The eucalyptus trees in front block a bit too much of the view and the starry splendor in the evening, but otherwise it is a wonderfully furnished braai stoepie. Perfect for two, a bit tight for 4 or like us with 2 big dogs, but it's livable. Well recommended.

Rooidam is from now on our overnight stop when we go to the Cape. It's so comfortable to get there from the N12, and we felt 100% safe with all the luggage and bikes on the trolley through the night. The kitchen has everything a knife needs and the beds are comfortable and warm. We were able to stretch our legs after the long drive and explore the farm. Our only regret is that we didn't take a tip with us for the spotless barbecue on our porch.

Karee cottage on Rooidam farm just south of Britstown, provided everything we needed (and more!) after a long day's drive. It's cosy, neat and clean, cozy furnished and has the most beautiful view from the front door and kitchen window - I would stand there all day washing dishes. Sunsets in the Karoo bring, together with the palpable silence, a tranquility in you like nowhere else. A good bed and shower are always of the utmost importance and this was certainly the case. We slept like rocks! Thank you for your hospitable reception Andre, sorry we couldn't meet Bonquet. Hopefully we will see you again in the future!

We thoroughly enjoyed Rooidam! We enjoyed a drink on Granaat's roof with a view over the field, we swam in the stone pond, we ate some of the farm's prickly pears that André cleaned and kept cool for us! We were kindly welcomed after receiving all the necessary logistical arrangements well in advance - everything was just perfect! Many thanks to André and Bonquet.
After a long journey we were able to relax wonderfully in the peaceful farm atmosphere. We were kindly received by André and Bonquet. The neat, air-conditioned living unit is well equipped. It was lovely to relax outside under a shade tree, with the chirping of birds in the background.
This was my fourth visit to Rooidam - it must show that André and Bonquet are doing something right, eh! Very neat accommodation and the hospitality that I am already used to. In addition, it is wonderful to be able to sleep in air conditioning when the Karoosun is doing its best with a 37°C day!
Staying overnight at Rooidam is like staying for a while on the farm you've always dreamed of. From swimming in the farm pond to stargazing as the sunbag. Not to mention the wonderful birdlife and natural scenes with which one is surrounded. When you feel the creaking of the wooden floors under your feet and see the charm of the antique furniture in the cottages, you suddenly know where you come from. It's a beautiful place!

They had biscuits and coffee in the room for us for the next morning's early departure. Children loved the dogs and the ducklings. There are braai facilities and we had a great barbecue and slept well. Already left early in the morning and the whole process was extremely easy.

What a great place to stay overnight and even longer if you are touring the Cape like I did with my mum and sister. It is beautiful, clean and tidy. The campsite is so wonderfully set up that we didn't even need to unpack terribly. With your own bathroom and kitchenette, it made our overnight stay so comfortable that we had time for a walk on the farm and we could enjoy the breathtaking sunset. We were simply spoiled with cake and tea while we had to wait for a thunderstorm to pass. The hospitality is first class. The place was food for my soul. Highly recommend.

What a great way to end our vacation on a high note! From the warm welcome, cooling off in the farm pond (heavenly), stargazing on the roof, a real Karoo barbecue, beautiful cottage with cool air conditioning to saying goodbye in the morning, our stay was one big festival. We will come back again and again.
We spent one night in the campsite as this was our halfway stop on our way home. We don't regret it for a second. The accommodation was wonderful! Each camp stand has its own ablutions and kitchen area and it's so neat. There is a lovely farm dam to cool off on hot days. The campsite is close to the orchards for that authentic farm feeling with the smell of fresh fruit and blossoms. The owners are very friendly and always willing to assist if ever you need anything, from braai wood, ice, to braai packs for sale. Do pay them a visit!
Andre and Bonquet warmly welcomed us on their farm. The pomegranate house was a big festival for children - especially the roof where in the evening we would lie on the roof (on camping mattresses that Bonquet brought especially for the children) together as a family and look at the stars. It was very special! Nice barbecue in the Karoo. It was all neat, clean and well furnished. We will definitely come again.

I used Rooidam Cottages as a stopover on my way to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Britstown is sort of halfway between home and our destination. The camping area is situated under huge shade trees, each site has its own ablution and kitchen, there is a Weber braai on site and there is a power point on each site. Rooidam is a working farm so I am sure one will be able to watch the goings on on the farm if staying for longer periods. There is a beautiful swimming pool which is a renovated reservoir and is sparkling clean. It is very secure and I will recommend Rooidam Cottages to anyone who is travelling via Britstown.
I wish I could stay permanently in one of those cottages. I'm in love with the Karoo and its houses and the absolute beautiful tranquility. Thank you to the owners of Rooidam for your hospitality and effort, it makes the long road every kilometer worth it.

As Australians travelling in South Africa we love the small family-owned accommodation options across the country that provide a good-value stay with a local feel. Rooidam Cottages, just off the N12, was a perfect stop. We stayed in Karee Cottage which was was very comfortable and beautifully furnished. We enjoyed reading the information provided about the farm, being able to go for a long walk on the afternoon of our arrival, and then sitting outside our cottage to watch the sun go down over the vast Karoo landscape. Andre was a gracious and welcoming host. We would love to return one day.

After a long day's travel, it is the ideal place to sleep over, but not just sleep over. Go for a walk on the farm, see how bright the stars shine and wake up in the morning with birds whistling/singing/chatting. The hospitality of the owners also always makes you feel at home and welcome.

The kitchen was adequate but not complete. Few utensils compared to other places (looked for potato masher). Could sleep nice and warm with heaters and warm blankets. The upper wooden floor was very noisy and cold air penetrated everywhere. No generator when power out. The 9 o'clock check out was a bit uncomfortable and was unnecessary for me as we were traveling long distances and getting up early was difficult. Otherwise a nice place to sleep close to the road and the town. Pleasant host and hostess. A pleasant overnight destination.

It's our second time at Rooidam. There are few things as nice as their "farm pond" pool. Andre-they are very friendly, the rooms are large, the bedding new and clean and we always feel at home. The farm is very close to the town for something to eat (if you don't want to barbecue).

I want to thank Bonguet and André for an excellent stay at their Karee unit. The hospitality given to us was absolutely awesome! We arrived quite late and still they were very friendly and helpful and had everything ready for us to braai and to relax after our trip from Cape Town. Immediately we felt at home. The unit was very clean and comfortable. We had a good night's rest with the quietness and felt very safe on their farm. The next morning we wandered around on their farm before we left. Both, my husband and I just didn't want to leave for our trip back to Johannesburg. We would definitely recommend for anyone to stay over and to enjoy. Thank you very much once again, Bonquet and André - you are excellent hosts! Very much appreciated!

Exceptional service and hospitality. Unity is just outside Britstown but so that you can experience dead silence. Air conditioning, farm swimming pool and hiking trails to stretch the legs make it nice at first. If you have to mention something, it is that the beds creak a little when you turn over. Perfect place that we will definitely visit again.

It was a special experience that we could share with our kids. The accommodation was neat and the owners were the friendliest people we've ever met. We really enjoyed our time here and would recommend Rooidam Cottages to anyone. Would really consider going back to stay for longer.
It was such a nice, beautiful, clean cottage. You don't even want to leave, wonderful hospitality and we even left with a little Dachshund (we're calling her "Karoo"). I'm already planning my trip for December 2017, and will definitely stay at Rooidam on my journey. I really recommend it! Lovely wood and Karoo chops for the braai (buy from owner), wonderful farm dam for the heat. Good for your soul to wake up there.
It was truly a home away from home. My daughter, her friend and I were on the farm on our way to Cape Town on Christmas Eve. And it was wonderful spending the night in the beautiful Karoo. Firstly we had a nice cooldown in the farm dam, and then I took to the veld for a walk, later we braai'd some meat, drank some wine and just appreciated the beauty of the Karoo. The hostess also went out of her way to make our stay pleasant. Thank you so much once again.
I spent many holidays with my grandmother in Britstown as a child so it was a very good experience for me. Apartment was neat and clean. And the air-con helped a lot with the worst heat.
I would recommend Rooidam Cottages anytime if people are on their way to the Cape. The children especially enjoyed swimming in the farm pond and also the horse riding. The service from André was excellent and we were treated very hospitably. I will definitely use them again.

The guesthouse is well located right next to the N12 and only 10 km from Britstown. You don't need anything else when you stay here. The silence on the farm is overwhelming! Lovely. We had a great dinner at the hotel and marvelled at all the interesting things in the restaurant.

Rooidam is ideally located between Johannesburg and Cape Town and that's the number of times we spend the night there. With a beautiful view of the dam, the moaning of windmills, and birdsong early in the morning, one rests wonderfully. Hopefully next time we will arrive earlier so that we can take advantage of the delicious barbecue area on the covered porch of Karee, the unit we stayed in. Wish we could stay longer.
It is a lovely little house, very neatly and tastefully furnished. The peace and quiet of the farm ensures a good night's rest after a tiring day on the long road. You are received with such hospitality that you feel more like friends and not strangers. We would love to stay there again, maybe just for more than one night!
It was incredibly hot. We traveled with my family and grandmother and immediately they offered "grandmother" to sleep in the cottage with air conditioning instead. The teenage daughters were involved with their children and that evening they went fox hunting and went swimming in the farm pond. What a great experience. You really can't spend the night just one night anywhere. Definitely going to sleep there again and again. You will not be able to find better service and hospitality. We drove from Glentana to Pretoria and decided to book over at Rooidam. Luckily there was still room for us after a hectic peak season. There was always good communication with Andrè and we arrived without problems. Of course we were tired, hot and hungry, but we quickly went to cool off in the farm pond near the cottages. André then arranged a whole dinner for us with barbecue packages and 2 different salads. The braai facilities are easy to use and we soon got a nice fire going. After dinner, the children could watch a story on a full DStv package. There was fresh milk in the fridge, coffee and tea also available on the kitchen shelf. We had a nice shower and the children really enjoyed the bath. The surroundings are very peaceful and quiet and we slept well until the rooster announced the dawn. There are magazines to read and books about the environment for those who like history and all kinds of unique features of the Karoo. We would like to visit Rooidam again and would not think twice before making a reservation. It is simply a must!

This is a wonderful stop with everything you need. We had a great overnight stay. The cottage (Karee) is well-equipped with warm blankets on the beds and heaters to keep the cold at bay. We received a friendly welcome and we were shown around. We also learned a few things about the history of the farm. I would definitely recommend Rooidam and will stay there again.
Accommodation on a farm not too far from the N12. Under green trees with peaceful night sounds that can be appreciated. The accommodation itself is clean and very nicely furnished. Our hostess warmly welcomed us and made us feel at home. Will always stop there again for an overnight stay.
A lot of effort was made to make sure I knew the location of the farm and cottage. I was received very friendly and hospitable and I immediately felt at home. I grew up on a farm. If people like simplicity, they can spend the night at Rooidam at any time. Not much is offered, apart from a clean place to sleep and bathroom.
We enjoyed swimming and cooling off in the lovely clean farm pond the most. The children played in the sand, they enjoyed playing with the puppies. There are orchards of fruit and grapes around us and we could pick delicious lemons to pour over our chops, and eat them just like that with soft peel and all. There were delicious biscuits, some houses had biscuit ovens and biscuits. (Last time there were cookies and the children couldn't wait for us to spend the night there again for the cookies, then this time there were only biscuits...) The houses were clean and full of character with antique furniture and full of love. Everything is special, the shower even has shower gel in it. There is soap, hand soap and hand cream in the bathrooms. We got delicious braai wood. The lamb chops and sausage were delicious from the farm. We would like to make a suggestion that if we spend the night there again that we will pay for delicious home-baked bread and butter and scones, or even nice porridge and gravy. It's a long way and you're tired when you get there. The farm took us back to our childhood with grandfather and grandmother on the farm. RED DAM IS THE BEST!

It was so lovely to stretch out after our trip from Somerset West in this true oasis in the wonderful Karoo. Incredible hospitality - we received fruit from the orchard as well as freshly baked biscuits. The luxury double-storey apartment is equipped with a double bed and two single beds upstairs and one single bed downstairs. The beautiful bathroom has a shower and a bathtub. Upstairs is a toilet and sink. There are steps to the roof to witness the starry splendor. If it is not cloudy, one can climb up to the roof with the little ladder in the bedroom and enjoy the starry sky. Next time we will not only sleep over, but stay an extra day to drink in the peace and quiet (and the absolute silence at night).

We enjoyed the stay very much. The Host and his wife were very friendly and helpful. The accommodation (Bloubos) was neat, beautiful and very clean. All facilities were available as well as milk, home-baked biscuits, tea and coffee. Furthermore, all facilities available. We have used their places before, but will definitely stay there again.

It was wonderful to be able to experience the sheep shearing and wake up the next morning to the chirping of thousands of birds at dawn.
The second visit was again delicious. The cottage is comfortable and tidy and the host and wife were friendly and hospitable. We found absolutely nothing we needed, because everything was provided for.
The place is very nicely located, perfect for an overnight stay halfway to the Cape. Would highly recommend it to anyone who needs the quiet of the Karoo, but also only overnight facilities. I can even spend a holiday there with the kindness of the people. The children also really enjoyed it and want to go again.
We stayed here on a trip down to Lainsburg and it was a great stop over with a 9-10 hour drive from Pretoria and then a 5 hour trip the following day. Super friendly owners who let me pop in a Kudu hind-quarter in the deep freeze on the way back, yes we booked with them both ways and I'm glad that we did. Beds are great, facilities were spot on and everyone (including our 3 and 7 year old) had a good nights sleep. I couldn't fault it. We'll be back.

To travel with dogs is not easy, and include two city kids in that total it certainly makes the mix all that more interesting. Rooidam was just what we needed to regroup before hitting the city. The plaas dam was the first to be enjoyed, our hosts were friendly and we really enjoyed our stay! We had everything we needed for a perfect stop over!

We were kindly received and encouraged to stretch our legs and experience the Karoo. We went for a short walk in the field, then grilled meat (wood is provided), watched the Springboks' victory over Australia on TV and just had a good time in the silence of the Karoo.

Very clean and tidy accommodation! The warm blankets and heaters were just the right medicine to ward off the icy Karoo cold. The delicious donuts and rusks are really appreciated. There were nice braai facilities that we had to use despite the freezing cold wind.
We had a great time and rested. The braai meat wood started burning right away even though we only had sausages to grill. The rusk was welcome when we had to leave early in the morning, so no breakfast problems. Beddesn must crack because it is a farm- nice. We will definitely stay here again next time.

Good living in the country side, where you can almost touch the stars at night! Relax with a cold one, light a nice fire and enjoy.
The room was pleasant and cool after a long drive, but it is definitely not worth a 3 star rating. The price is also not completely overpriced and therefore I have no complaints. The bedding was very neat and clean, but the main bedroom bed cracks because the base is not a full base but a spring bed. It bothered me. Furthermore, I had no hot water for showering, although it was so hot outside that I found it pleasant. Don't know about the winter months though. The reception was really very pleasant and I would definitely recommend the stay to people because it was an old farmstead and you have to experience it in that context.
We had a pleasant stay. The owner was helpful and friendly, and my son really enjoyed his swim in the farm dam! Two small points: the bathroom curtains were too long and hung in the bath; more should be done to accommodate a breakfast and/or supper for guests as there is virtually nothing available in Britstown. Other than that, simply wonderful.
