Rooikop @ Breede River offers a tranquil, off-the-grid retreat ideal for those seeking a deeper connection with nature. Set back about 15 m from the Lower Breede River estuary, this self-catering house is located 15 km from the sea and sits on a 25-hectare property. The surrounding landscape is characterized by renosterbos, a type of fynbos unique to the region.
The house is a timber frame type and is comfortable but not luxurious. It is almost off the grid and relies on rain water stored in tanks and it has a very basic solar panel system.
This house can accommodate 6 guests and comprises 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The main bedroom is furnished with a double bed, while the second bedroom and third bedrooms are each furnished with twin beds. Guests share the use of a bathroom fitted with a shower, basin, and toilet. There is also a separate toilet. No bedding is supplied. Guests are required to bring their own towels, sheets, pillows, duvets and blankets. A number of duvet inners, mattress protectors and pillows are provided.
The house has a kitchen equipped with a solar powered fridge, gas stove, cutlery, crockery, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. There are a few solar lights and a gas water heater, and the water supply is rainwater collected in tanks. There is a spacious dining table where guests can enjoy their meals. The adjacent lounge is furnished with comfortable couches. Because there is no 220V supply, there is no microwave, oven, etc.
The property has minimal power by solar energy and uses rainwater. It’s a peaceful escape, with the nearest house 200 m away.
For those who enjoy outdoor cooking, there's a braai area on the property. A jetty extending about 25 m into the river provides a great spot for swimming or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
Please note that in the dry season there is a huge fire risk. So, if guests make a fire or braai, they must please monitor it at all times. If it is windy and the wind is strong, the risk of veld fires increases.

Please note, that this property has a boathouse, guests can enjoy the use of a 3.1 m rowing dinghy, which is stored in the boathouse.
Melane, a nearby neighbour, holds the keys to the boathouse.
