Long-stay guests a bit inconsiderate of holiday guests - TV was on loud 'till late even though they were all on their phones. Did at least quiet down after midnight. Towels to be inclusive per number of guests.
On arrival we were welcomed by friendly staff behind the counter of a bar setup. The music is very loud with a shebeen vibe. Entering our room it was more peaceful, people chatting and drinking coffee. We booked an on suite bathroom but did not have any towels, upon asking for towels we were told that you have to pay a cash deposit R100 per towel. (I do not mind the deposit but we did not carry that much cash and was not aware of this). The music stopped just after 10pm (also not a problem, this was to be expected). We did not get much sleep as our room was right next to the kitchen/dining room and right through the night and morning loud talking, eating, drinking coffee. The room was tidy but not clean. (toilet was used and not flushed, shower not clean and bedding did not smell clean). I don't like it to leave a bad review but just being honest.
The reception with the bar counter creates the impression that one can order a cocktail there, when not.

In January I will be in Cape Town at Saltycrax again.
What a gem we found. Safe parking, security cameras, electric fencing. Lovely braai area. Use of communal kitchen. Friendly staff. We will be back. Affordable.
1. Security was a big problem. Had people just walking in during the evening. Some of our food and drinks were taken. It was a big problem because of the 1 gate that could not close. Couldn't swim or relax because the water was very dirty in the jacuzzi. We wanted to use it to cool our bodies after each day's cricket. Otherwise it was very nice. Staff, especially Sandy and Christopher were fantastic.
By far the best backpackers lodge I have been to. Where strangers became friends. Loved it.

It is a very nice place, neat and very safe.
Although everything was good, there were a few things that bothered me. People who check into backpacker accommodation are usually people who like to socialize and meet new friends. However, we were often warned to laugh more softly, our music was too loud even if we turned it down.
We had some concerns about the linen when we arrived but the staff was accommodating. The next day they changed our bedding in the room. It was in perfect condition. Especially Roombe was very friendly and not forgetting Lethu and Chris.

I was of the opinion that only the "dormitories" have shared facilities and that the double rooms are at least fully equipped with all facilities indoors.
We spent a week here and it was really nice, good value for money and everyone is always helpful.

I was warmly received. Room was clean and I slept great. Constructive criticism: Management should please. make sure there is Doom in every room for mosquitoes. The togetherness in the bar was wonderful. Would stay there again and 100% recommend everyone to support Saltycrax. Thank you.
Close to the beach, shops and restaurants within walking distance. Accommodation is neat and the staff are kind. There's also WiFi available.
Place really messy and disorganised. Didn't feel safe there. Bedding dirty, place really neglected.

I find this a great place to stay, especially for young people. There are many young people of different nationalities staying here. They have created a very safe place with great facilities. They have a nice bar on the premises and the atmosphere is very social. They are walking distance from the ocean and close to shops.
No running water in room. Contractors were re-tiling the kitchen area so I assume this was an isolated incidence.

We were received very kindly and everything was clean and tidy. There just wasn't anything for the kids to do on the premises itself, but luckily Litchi, Fred and the other dog kept them busy.

We had a very nice stay. Not even the power outage could dampen the spirit. Forgot our pillow there, contacted Shona on Monday and by Friday it was back with us in Hermanus. See you again soon.

The kitchen was dirty due to other visitors, but I would definitely recommend it to friends.
My mother and I were looking for a place to stay for one night during the festive season and considered several options, but all were fully booked. We were very lucky to get a place at Saltycrax Backpackers in their en suite double room the night before we left. At first I was skeptical about taking my mother there because backpacker lodges are more aimed at the younger traveler, but we were pleasantly surprised by the tranquility and had a wonderful stay. LekkeSlaap's service was excellent as always and there were no problems.
Friendly and helpful... room clean and tidy. We really enjoyed our time there.
My family & I enjoyed our stay @ Saltycrax. It's safe, clean and close to most Cape Town attractions. We would stay there again when we next visit Cape Town.

Super friendly, helpful staff. ZAlways a great atmosphere at Saltycrax. Beautiful garden, peaceful surroundings, yet central to all the shops and restaurants.
Saltycrax is a very chilled place, and we enjoyed our stay. I would return here anytime I have to visit Cape Town. The people that work here are very welcoming, and friendly as well.
If we had a problem, a solution was immediately sought. The people are very friendly and they spare nothing to make it a peaceful, safe holiday for you. I would use Saltycrax again anytime!
Such places make it more affordable for the ordinary visitor to the Cape: no frills, just a comfortable place to sleep.
