The cottage is situated just 900 m from the popular Pot n Plow restaurant and pub, and 9 km from the quaint Haenertsburg village with shops, restaurants, and a pub or 2. There is also the Phoenix Farm Meander that takes you around the farm and you can enjoy the pine plantations and the vlei along the Helpmekaar river. There are a variety of tourist attractions for visitors in the area, such as Thomac Essential Oil Tours to learn how essential oils are distilled, Wegraakbosch Dairy selling cheeses, Magoesbaskloof Canopy Tours, hiking and mountain biking trails among waterfalls and beautiful views. Sanfern Downs also has a factory shop with natural healing products for sale; the healing products are made on the farm.

Beautiful accommodation, beautiful gardens with walking routes. A wonderful local restaurant, walking distance from there. Customer service was fantastic. Actually got more than we expected. This is a simple self-catering unit with something of everything. Will come back.
Fantastic and very interesting hostess. Delicious treat with warm bread, fresh butter and yummy plum jam on arrival.

People were very friendly. We were there a little earlier and they were already ready with the room. We were able to check in immediately and relax.
For what you pay it was value for money. Comfortable bed and hot shower. Nice treat with farm bread and butter.
The bed was very comfortable and the bedding clean. The home baked bread was a great treat. Unfortunately, the unit is in urgent need of attention and maintenance. More than 12 hours (19:00 on Sept. 27 - 8:30 on Sept. 28) without electricity. Due to load shedding?

Basic facilities but with all the amenities you might need. We were treated to a freshly baked bread on our arrival! Great personal touch.
On our arrival we found a warm bun and bottle of fresh milk in our fridge. Everything needed was there. Before the thunderstorm she warned us that the power could go out, which happened, and the next morning she came to make sure everything was okay. It was a lovely and special overnight stay "in the forest".
On our arrival there was homemade bread with homemade butter and jam. What a delicious treat!
The hostess was very friendly and the cottage was perfectly clean and comfortable. The path is very rough on small cars though, so be sure to travel a bit more sturdy. Location is safe for walks and very private.

Would have been nice to enjoy the surroundings more, but the outside area is, just as inside, minimally appointed, so for a one-night stay it is lovely, I would not stay longer.
Sanfern Downs Cottage is delightfully situated not too far from many activities and attractions. Megan is very hospitable, easy to talk to and the delicious freshly baked bun with butter and jam was a great treat. The boiler was switched on straight away before anything else was unpacked. We will definitely stay there again, it's peaceful and quiet but you still feel very safe. Our little Yorkie thought she was in "doggy heaven" with all the nice walks we took just like that on the farm. And then of course important - accommodation there is affordable for us "locals" who also like to visit the beautiful places in our country and cannot pay the price of a farm for accommodation. Thank you very much.
The host was friendly, but the cottage needs a lot of maintenance and deep cleaning. The bathroom is full of black mould. Very uncomfortable bed. Close to the pub next door that plays loud music till late. The host made fresh farm bread which was a nice touch.
Megan is a wonderful host! On arrival we recieved a freshley baked loaf of farm bread with butter and home made jam. The cottage was clean and tidy, we will surly make use of this accomodation again when we visit again.
Surroundings are quiet, peaceful and very pleasant. It's a beautiful place to go to for some peace and quiet.

We had a great stay. Everything was in working order. We will go back there any time. Nice in the middle of the forest with the most beautiful flowers everywhere.

Brilliant communication with Megan. By arrangement, we were met and shown around by her capable and friendly son. The cottage was welcoming with special touches such as the homemade bread, butter and jam, fruit etc. The accommodation was spotless, comfortable and homely.
Loved the Farm. Great place for a gateway from the city. The Trees, loved my morning walk. The reception was great. They even made a fresh pot bread for us, how cool is that. Definitely going back.

The accommodation was pleasant and our hostess even gave us fresh bread. It is located in a very nice part of the country and I can definitely recommend it. It is close to Haenertsburg which is also a very pretty town. The directions to the accommodation can probably be better.

Megan is a fantastic hostess and she made us feel so welcome. When we arrived she had a delicious freshly baked bun ready for us as well as homemade jam and butter. It was a nice surprise and so unexpected. She even offered to light our fireplace so that when we return the night after a wedding, the room will be nice and warm. Which was the case. We will definitely knock on it again if we are in that area.
If you love nature this is an ideal place to relax. Visit all the beautiful places nearby!
Sanfern Downs Cottage is beautiful and cosy with a lovely indoor fireplace. Beautiful area close to all the attractions. Really enjoyed our stay and would definitely book there again whenever we travel in that direction again.
