Sani Valley Lodge
Sani Valley Lodge
Sani Valley Lodge
-
The reserve has a very limited number of secluded luxury lodges designed to accommodate couples, families and small groups, all with the choice of full board or self-catering accommodation. These lodges can accommodate between 2 to 6 persons and consist of separate bedrooms with private bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen to prepare and cook meals, a living area with a fireplace, and a deck with braai facilities for guests to use.
A few of the lodges boast a Jacuzzi on a private deck. For those who do not feel like cooking, hearty South African meals can be arranged.
Within the valley sits one of the largest privately owned lakes in South Africa; the lodges are scattered on the edge of the lake, which is often visited by a variety of antelope, zebra, baboons and other wildlife. This is one of the very few animal reserves in the Drakensberg, further enhanced by the vast lake which attracts unparalleled birdlife as well. The fishing is well renowned, with regional records being attributed to the size of the lake.
Guests can indulge in a pre-booked massage, be taught how to fly fish, go otter spotting by canoe, be taken game viewing on horseback, drive a 4x4 up the famous Sani Pass, or hike to the Bushmen paintings, to name but a few activities.

21 guests' feedbackIt was a fantastic experience. With snow as a bonus. Gareth was a perfect host. He even switched on the generator for us at 23:00 so we could watch rugby. Not his fault that Eskom was out of power due to not a snowstorm.
We had an incredibly nice stay! The lodge is excellently equipped, neat and clean!
We had an amazing time! The location is peaceful and we enjoyed the activities that involved our son. The staff were super friendly and accommodated us in every way.
Relaxing and enjoyable, would like to stay longer next time.
We have enjoyed every moment!
We had a great stay, the only small thing was that the wood they provided for the fireplace was still wet and struggled to burn.
We stayed in number 2 Sunset Lodge. The views of the mountain and dam were spectacular and there was loads of game and amazing birdlife. One thing to note is that there are 3 units at Sunset in one building. Unfortunately, we had people staying upstairs which was quite noisy due to the wooden flooring. The outdoor decking is in much need of maintenance, but that is a trade-off for the location, I guess. If you're looking for a peaceful setting in nature away from the hustle and bustle of the city, then this place is a hidden gem.
Sani Valley Lodge is a picture perfect place to break away from the everyday. The cottages are very private and have every conceivable item that could be needed for a perfect rest. The breakfasts are delicious and the optional self drive boat trips were a huge bonus. Silindile is the best host one could ever ask for.
Calmness.
Quiet and remote. Ideal for a Sanipas excursion. Great bedding and this is at the top of my list of importance. Short renovation and replenishment of basic items such as tongs. Everything works, showers, sinks, etc. is only a few years old.
Beautiful views and well-equipped and beautifully decorated accommodation. There are paths for hiking and MTB on the premises and canoes to use free of charge on the dam. They are located next to Sani lodge, where there is a variety of hiking trails. I thought the unit could have been cleaner (the extractor fan was sticky-dirty), but on the surface, everything was well looked after.
A secluded destination in a wonderful chalet (Early Mist). Catered dinners were great! Unfortunately it rained the full 2 days we were there but the fireplace and wood supplied, underfloor heating and electric blankets made it so comfortable. The outside jacuzzi struggled to heat up properly in the cold temperatures and the road out after the heavy rains damaged our car a bit but still a highly recommended stay.
The scenery and surroundings are beautiful. The cleanliness and neatness is definitely not 4-star as advertised. Towels were old and ragged, oven and extractor hob very dirty, showers need some mold treatment, carpet in main living area need replacement. Not value for money compared to the price charged.
The dirt/mud road from the tarmac to our unit was in extremely poor condition due to the rain and because it had apparently not been scraped for years. But when we got to the unit and saw how beautifully situated it was, the stress of the road was forgotten. The location between the hills and mountains and next to a lake is unbeatable. The zebras and goats that graze around as well as the waterfowl create a wonderful, natural atmosphere. Our unit was wonderfully spacious with plenty of room to unpack our luggage. It is perfectly equipped with everything one could need, and the wood for the fireplace is replenished every morning. The place wasn't spotless, and I just had to stop myself from scrubbing off the black tack between the tiles, but if it could get some attention, I'd give the lodge full marks.
We thoroughly enjoyed our three days at Sani Valley Lodge. There is really nothing we can complain about. The accommodation is of a high standard, the view beautiful and the owner, Gareth, went absolutely out of his way to make things pleasant. The breakfast was excellent and we decided to enjoy dinner there (delivered to the chalet) rather than drive elsewhere. It was the right decision. The fried chicken, oxtail and the chicken curry were excellent in terms of quality and price. We can't wait to go there again. It is highly recommended.
The scenery was magnificent, the staff were very friendly and helpful! The fishing was very difficult, maybe just the time of year. Will definitely go back!
It is a place where one feels in a day or one rests for a week. Pictures can't describe it. It looks 100 times better than the ad. I hope to visit there many more times in my life. Thank you very much for everything.
Unbelievably beautiful views. Friendly staff. Value for money.
It was awesome! We booked 3 nights, but then on the last day decided to stay another night!
Loved waking up to the panoramic view of the sun glimmer on the lake with surrounding mountains with Zebras and antelope grazing close by. During the day the sight and sound of many birds but particularly fish eagle and at night jackals. We did a horse ride which we loved - wish we had booked longer as so much to do at Sani Valley Lodge.
As real as the pictures: great scenery! Great accommodation for self-catering. Great location in the Southern Drakensberg.
