Accommodation is offered in thatched open-plan self-catering cottages, each with their own equipped kitchen, private bathroom, and a TV with limited DStv channels.
The Matyholweni area of the Park is home to wildlife such as kudu, bushbuck, caracal, bushpig and warthog as well as smaller mammal species and birds. During 2009, the introduction of larger wildlife species such as Burchell’s zebra, red hartebeest and buffalo commenced. Elephant, lion and ostrich will be introduced in the future and eventually, the area will be joined with the main game area to allow natural movement of wildlife.
Visitors have access to the main wildlife viewing area of the Park via the southern access road which links to Addo Main Camp. The distance from Camp Matyholweni to Addo Main Camp through the Park is 39 km, however this route is not accessible to buses or caravans.
Amenities such as shops, restaurants, ATM's and a fuel station are available in the nearby town of Colchester or Cannonville, approximately 3 km away.

14 guests' feedbackThe house was clean and tidy. Enough towels.
We spent the night at the Addo Elephant Park. Our unit was spotless, well organised and comfortable. It had everything we needed. At our arrival we were greeted with friendly staff that explained everything to us. The park lived up to its name and we were in awe by the number of elephants in the park. It truly was a magical stay. We had breakfast at the main camp the next morning and it was excellent. We had a fantastic time and enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be back!
The camping units were privately isolated with a small view to a small mountain. The woods are very dense so one cannot see much. But the night sounds definitely make up for it. The drive through the park with its beautiful scenery and animals is food for the soul.
I would recommend for a maximum of 2 nights - there is no cell phone signal in the park. Make sure you have everything you need - the Spar in Colchester has very limited stock and there is no other store unless you want to drive to PE.
Lovely location with beautiful views.
The housing is very comfortable and the view beautiful. Reception was very effective and we were welcomed with kindness. The people at reception have good knowledge of the park and surroundings and are happy to share the knowledge. Only one negative from me, the air conditioning was not effective and blew a lot of dust into the house when I first turned it on.
A beautiful, quiet lodge with a deck for listening to the sounds of the park. Would have preferred to have WiFi to get information about the wildlife we saw. Unfortunately the welcome at the office was not very warm, but the gate guards always had cheerful smiles. Spar shop 10 minutes away. All other park facilities at the main camp. Highly recommended for independent travelers like us who want to get up early to observe the wildlife on their own.
The hut (Nr.5) where we stayed was clean, tidy and user-friendly, but old. The TV didn't work, despite us reporting it. We especially wanted to watch the nature programmes, to which the Information Guide refers. The park as a whole was a wonderful experience, many thanks to the Park management.
Perfect spot. Lovely facilities, basic but very comfortable with everything you need.
Very nice atmosphere. Neat and everything was in order.
On arrival, the woman who helped us at reception was not very friendly and everything was only temporary! There is nothing wrong with the accommodation, we had a great time here!
We were not told that there would only be 1 bed for 3 adults even though I specifically booked for 3. The description “Family” is completely misleading. No indication it would not be accessible for older citizens. No pan to cook in or an oven provided.
