SANParks Addo Nyathi Rest Camp
SANParks Addo Nyathi Rest Camp
SANParks Addo Nyathi Rest Camp
-
SANParks Addo Nyathi Rest Camp is nestled at the foot of the majestic Zuurberg Mountain range surrounded by hills, and offers exclusive self-catering accommodation. The name of the camp means ‘buffalo’, which is something you are sure to see. A slow and steady drive through the Big 5 Nyathi section of Addo will have you hoping for a glimpse of the king of the jungle or the elusive lazy leopard. Only 12 km from main camp, Nyathi offers guests the seclusion and isolation that only nature can bring.
The rest camp offers accommodation in 11 self-catering units: 8 2-sleeper units, and 1 4-sleeper unit as well as 2 family units which sleep 6 each. Set on the banks of a floodplain, each unit has been built on stilts and provides a spectacular view from the bedrooms, lounges and even some bathrooms thanks to wide open glass panels. Each unit is inspired by the African culture with the architecture reflecting the dome styled and thatch homes of old. The décor inside the units takes its cue from the round leaves of the spekboom, which is abundant throughout the park. The copper pipes and taps also give the units a more authentic feel and make you feel right at home.
The seasonal river flowing just beneath the camp brings relief to many animals that are found in this section, be on the lookout for baboons, kudu, warthog and the main star, elephants.
For a more relaxed viewing experience, guests can visit a waterhole which is accessible on foot inside the small camp. A variety of game and birds frequent this area so if you who want to enjoy all that Addo has to offer, from a more secluded section of the park, Nyathi Rest Camp is ideal for you.

Unlike the Chalet #11 visited last year, the Braai Area is separated from the Terrace by the Plunge Pool. The beds were very comfortable and the air conditioning functioned excellently. Blacky, our Camp-Guard, was extremely accommodating and gave us some tips for wildlife watching on the next evening.
The accommodation is one of a kind in the middle of the most beautiful wild nature. The road to Nyathi Rest camp is a safari on its own every time you drive there.
This hidden hideaway was an absolute gem for us and our guests - it exceeded all our expectations and the added mini game drive from the accommodation to the exit gate when we left, was a great surprise and finished off a fantastic nights stay. Thank you so much.
Yes, if you consider the tranquility and natural beauty. No, considering general maintenance. This also applies to other camps in Addo.
One of those holiday spots in SA that is a must. Water hole nearby where animals come to drink water. Jackals calling in the evenings. Swimming pool for children. Most beautiful room views. Barbecue outside with the most beautiful view. Staff who come to ask if everything is ok and everyone is very friendly! Would love to go again.
We enjoyed our stay at SANParks Addo Nyathi Rest Camp.
Definitely a camp that can be recommended for any vacationer.
Hidden gem in Addo with all the comforts needed.
Additionally, basics such as tea and coffee were not provided. However, the staff was all very friendly and overall we had a lovely stay.
Well-located, the units are clean and certainly fit for purpose. When returning to Addo we would stay at Nyathi again. I would just suggest that rather than travelling to the Nyathi gate through the park as suggested at reception, it is actually better to return to Paterson Road via the main gate and travel along there (especially if it is raining).
With no signal and no WiFi it was the perfect bushland getaway. Beautiful view where we could see Elephants, kudus, warthogs and zebras from our wooden deck in the morning and late afternoon.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Nyathi Camp. The views are stunning and the private pool worked wonders in the extreme heat we experienced on Saturday.
Was very clean and tidy and perfect place to switch off.
We were able to rest a bit and appreciate the animals. Will definitely visit Nyathi again.
Beautiful place, very nice accommodation and friendly staff.
We were a family of 4 and although we were issued 2 huts far apart (2 and 11) it still was a memorable stay.
Very nice and peaceful. Crazy about the bushveld. Everything was right and neat and clean.
Wonderful experience. Just make sure you get proper boards from main camp.
We felt we picked the best accommodation option within the Addo Elephant Park. The sighting of animals was spectacular, from lions sleeping in the middle of the path to elephant herds accompanying the car in the evening sun and lots of other animals so closely. In comparison to driving through the main park this was very exclusive and extended our safari experience with truly amazing memories. The size of the bungalows were much bigger than anticipated.
Modern, clean, private apartment with beautiful views. No telephone reception. Very relaxing!
Units very close to each other, can hear neighbours talking, walking on the gravel paths, closing car doors etc. Advertised as a Big 5 park with elephant, buffalo and other game frequenting the watering hole, but only warthogs seen in 3 days! TV's in every room, spoils the tranquility.
We had a very nice stay and will go back anytime!
