Accommodation units are situated within easy walking distance of each other, and of the camp facilities such as the swimming pool, an a-la-carte restaurant and a shop selling curios, snacks and basic supplies. A picnic and braai area is available for day visitors.
A unique feature is the waterhole lookout point, floodlit at night, within the camp as well as the underground hide, allowing close encounters with wildlife at the waterhole. The evenings are punctuated with the calls of lion, spotted hyena and jackal, while francolin and bokmakierie herald each dawn.
The main game area of the park is home to the Big 5 as well as antelope such as red hartebeest, eland, kudu, common duiker and grysbok. Spotted hyena and Burchell’s zebra occur as well as warthog, vervet monkey, bush pig and small mammals. About 250 bird species occur in this area of the park.

47 guests' feedbackBest sightings of animals we have ever encountered. A black rhino, rooi kat with cub, hyenas and of course elephants. Amazing!
Accommodation was lovely, comfortable and clean. Friendly and helpful staff.
Fantastic place to visit if you want to see loads of elephants, in the wild, in their natural environment. The campsite itself is typical SANParks style, above average and well maintained. They also have a full load shedding backup power supply. This particular cottage lacked a great view because the bushes and spekboom have grown too tall, it would be amazing if they cut them right back.
Addo is always a winner for us. We live in Port Elizabeth, so it's nice and close. Our stay was very nice and we can't complain about anything. The tent etc. is pretty clean. We think it's just time for a bathroom upgrade please. Bathrooms are very old. Can get Noah and his ark there. Saw many beautiful and beautiful animals. Addo we will see again.
It is a special park and always fun to be there. The environment is beautiful and peaceful, even the animals seem calm. Forest Cabins are clean and met our needs and the staff are very friendly. Photo opportunities galore! We will definitely visit again.
We really enjoyed our overnight stay with our two granddaughters. The log cabin was tidy with everything needed. The braai area was nicely sheltered and private.
The stairs were broken, very dangerous. Shower was clogged. Grill could not stay on top, adjustment screw broken. Half of staff super friendly, other half grumpy and aloof.
We stayed in a Rondavel overlooking the waterhole, which was the perfect location for wildlife. The accommodation at SANParks Addo Rest Camp was lovely, but the bathroom was in need of refurbishment. Overall, Addo was a great place to visit.
No rugs/mats next to beds on cold floor in the rondavels! Rondavels also need some maintenance, taps loose, on basin at number 1, leaking tap on basin in unit 2. Airconditioners old and noisy. Pathway to units breaking up and needs maintenance! Units need TLC for the price one pays, they are very basic! However, beds are comfortable and linen was clean! Communal kitchen nicely set up!
Dressing rooms can be renovated.
Awesome - everything was fantastic.
Great facilities at the camp eg restaurant, shop, swimming pool. Plenty of parking near the restaurant. Did find the outside seating at the restaurant was uncomfortable and ended up sitting inside which was a bit dark to read a menu. Staff are helpful.
Some chalets are not maintained. Some are.
Friendly and helpful staff. However, we carried linen and duvets for two single beds with us during our entire holiday, as it was indicated that we should bring our own linen, which was unnecessary at the time.
The accommodation, Forest Cabin 6, was full of flies. So bad that we couldn't even drink coffee there. By the time you take out the 1st fly there are 2 new ones in your coffee. We think it's sewer flies, caused by poor maintenance of the bathroom/shower. We complained about it to the customer service of the park. The wildlife park, Addo Elephant Park, was wonderful. Saw lots of elephants, and zebras, buffaloes, warthogs and rhinos.
The visit in Addo did not disappoint. The field is currently incredibly beautiful green with unexpected flower splendor in certain parts. However, the maintenance leaves much to be desired. The porch light of the Houthut (HF4) didn't work and so we couldn't have a barbecue the first night, because it was pitch dark at the barbecue drum under the porch. The wooden steps were also pitch dark and therefore unsafe in the evening. We tried all the numbers that appeared in the cabin but got no answer. An SMS message to the manager also did not go through. The next day we reported it to reception early in the morning and followed up 3 times the same day without any response except to be assured by reception that they had passed it on to the right person. That night we did have a barbecue, but had to use 2 headlamps. The day after we reported it to reception again and followed up 2 times without any response. When we left at 6 o'clock the next morning, we had to unpack the fridge on the porch in the dark and also walk down 4 very worn wooden steps in the dark with all our luggage. The general maintenance in the cabin is also not up to standard and it's really a shame that visitors are exposed to such poor service.
Ons tydjie was perfek, selfs die weer. Mooi olifante gesien en ook ander diere. Winkel bied alles wat jy nodig het.
All people working at Addo are very friendly.
Good stay, nice food and saw plenty of animals.
Nice game runs especially to the south at Hapoor and Ngulube. Try entering the South gate instead - you need a 2 hour leisurely drive to the main camp, but much better than the outside road to the main gate. Cottages are neat and very comfortable - fully furnished.
This is the place to go for intimate experiences with wildlife and most especially, elephants.
Wonderful family experience.
Accommodation was good and it is one of the nicest SANparks to visit.
The park is awesome, but the office where you check in and the accommodation itself was a complete let down. Very unfriendly and rude staff at the check in. We went for dinner at the restaurant, kitchen closed at 20:00, so we were back in the chalet by 20:30. Our DStv was not working, so we could not do anything else. The next morning we wanted to make breakfast in the chalet, two stove plates not working, no egg lifter, no complimentary coffee, tea, sugar and no proper utensils. For the costs of the chalets, they can at least check if everything is working before they check in clients. Really disappointed.
Camp is disappointing. Toilet is not fixed. Even after we reported it, no one bothered to fix it. The general maintenance in Sanparke is quickly falling behind.
Perfect breakfast and very nice employees. Thank you!
Exceptional park with calm, calm animals. Could capture special moments in photos.
Ablution need lots of maintenance, although clean very, disappointing especially for international tourist.
Could only see elephants from a high vantage point looking down on the bushes.
Will go again. But for longer. Everything was just perfect.
Good breakfast.
Had a wonderful stay and enjoyed looking for and watching animals like in a wildlife park. Dirt roads not very good.
We had a lovely few days in Addo Elephant Park. We saw most of the animals, except lions and hyenas. Some of the gravel roads need urgent attention in some spots after the heavy rains - it becomes a challenge for a normal sedan car to drive there. All in all, a great experience!
Advance communication and follow-up through the website to confirm the arrangements is appreciated. Facilities at Addo chalets are really clean and tidy. Would highly recommend. Although well intentioned, the room freshener spray affected me badly (allergic to perfume). But, my mistake, didn't report it beforehand. Just a pity the only restaurant at Addo is not recommendable, give them 3/10.
Addo was one of the best destinations I've ever been to. The staff is friendly and helpful. The facilities are clean and of good quality.
Coming from Switzerland I have visited your park during the past years many times, either by myself or with Mike from dungbeetle, top guide! Driving myself was always very good and every time I saw many elephants at different waterholes. What could be improved is the service at restaurant, I tried to get breakfast after the sunrise trip, but there was not enough staff. I understand that the park is not responsible for the restaurant. I also did not understand why the buffet-lunch is only available on a Sunday? Anyhow, Addo is a top attraction in South Africa.
Enjoy beautiful viewing of animals. All I encountered was my numerous telephone attempts to call the office at the south gate with no success.
A wonderful experience once you find some ellies. The only down side is that the bush is very dense and thus not always successful at finding them. Very rewarding watching a herd interact at the waterhole.
We are very professionally received. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We saw all the animals in about 2 hours. There is so much you can view. The forest cabin was clean. Maybe they could just give a little more attention to the bathroom. We felt safe at all times.
We enjoy visiting SANParks. The people are friendly and all the facilities are spotless. The accommodation also offers everything one needs. Will definitely visit again.
The TV didn't work in our room which was a bit disappointing as we just wanted to watch some news. Otherwise we were really happy with our stay and will certainly come again.
The trains were a little bothering but we had a good experience in the park.
The bathroom was blocked and in disrepair. Disabled friendly but not wheelchair. Found dead bugs and live bugs inside so needed a better clean. Ramp to chalet very steep for wheelchair. Cannot do alone chalet 28.
Poor customer service: Struggled to get booking on system, no after hours help available, given wrong key for cottage, and had to struggle after hours to find real house. Park facilities have deteriorated, rooms not equipped as desired for the price paid for accommodation. Parkways need a scratch!
The accommodation is overpriced and reception rather unfriendly.Housekeeping is poor. The stove had not been cleaned, light bulbs out and bed not properly made.No rack or similar facility to put personal bathroom items.Handles may be considered in the shower for older people.
Always a treat to stay in the park accommodation. Yes, there are cheaper options in surrounding area but here the stars shine brighter and the animal sounds remind you that you are in Africa. The cottages are lovely, well equipped and there is plenty of living space. Showers were fantastic!
