SANParks Augrabies Rest Camp
SANParks Augrabies Rest Camp

Augrabies Falls National Park has only the 1 camp, but it is also the largest camp of all the arid parks. All chalets are fully equipped with self-catering facilities and are air-conditioned. More than half of the camp sites, all set in a wonderfully shady area, have electricity and besides the usual ablution facilities there is also a communal kitchen, laundry and ironing room.
For those wanting a break from the traditional camp braai there is a fully licensed restaurant and if supplies run low you’ll find a well stocked shop. The 3 swimming pools are for residents’ use only. Both the chalets and the camping site are within walking distance of the main falls and access to them have been made wheelchair friendly with an extensive network of boardwalks.
Set off the shady, secluded reception area of Augrabies National Park, the Augrabies Falls Conference Centre venue is an ideal venue for small to medium meetings, workshops and seminars. The conference centre can accommodate up to 70 delegates in a well-equipped, air-conditioned facility.

169 guests' feedbackWe enjoyed the time.
Lovely stay at Augrabies, cottage has a nice view, close to the falls and was well equipped. Friendly service. Directions in the park were excellent.
Our stay was wonderful. Everything was clean and tidy. The food at the restaurant was also excellent. Will definitely stay there again.
It was an experience to see. The accommodation was fantastic, comfortable, very tidy. Great.
Awesome. Will come back for another visit.
The park is well maintained, the units neat and clean, fully equipped with air conditioning. The falls weren't running strong, but it was still breathtaking. Definitely one of our country's most beautiful scenery.
Very nice and peaceful. Hiking trails are a must. Very neat and clean.
We had a great stay and the staff was super friendly. Would definitely recommend it.
This was our second time staying there and will go back again and again. Our stay was great as always. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
It was very good as usual, but no repairs to the flood damage to walkways were done for the past 2 years, which is very sad.
It was very nice, but the pool pump broke the silence a little.
Pleasant. Would have appreciated a complimentary tea and coffee.
It was a very pleasant stay, thank you.
Augrabies' natural beauty is incredible. Staff are very helpful and go out of their way to help where they can. Our chalet was equipped with a TV and air conditioning. All that was unfortunate is that the damage done to some of the viewpoints in last year's flood has still not been repaired, so there are some viewpoints (the most beautiful ones) that one cannot get to.
First time for us, what a surprise.
Staff was great, chalet and equipment need a bit of maintenance. Two nights was enough for the area. Overall a good experience.
Neat campsite with clean facilities.
Had a fantastic break. The chalets are well equipped with everything you need. Quality cutlery (and more than enough too). Everything was clean and tidy!
I would recommend it because the location. However, the air conditioners blowing directly on the bed and the hard mattress caused us to sleep very badly. It is simple but very neat and well maintained otherwise. Air conditioners were so welcome in the 39 degree heat, but very noisy and as mentioned, blow directly in your face when you sleep.
The unit was perfect, but I really feel that tea, coffee, and milk should be provided. All B&Bs do that, and it would be a wonderful addition as the accommodation is not cheap. Also, ice trays in the freezer to save one from buying a whole huge bag at the shop. And WiFi is a definite must - especially for overseas travellers.
Amazing location right next to the waterfall. There is a shop and a restaurant on site, which is nice, as there isn't much in the area. The park itself has great driving and hiking trails with lots of animals (mostly antelopes), but they are a bit timid. There are some quiver trees around (if you like nighttime photography, they do look stunning against the starry sky). Food selection in the restaurant is okay. There were a couple of small issues with our apartment, but they were fixed very fast.
Nice, thanks. Can only pay more attention to the water in ambusio blocks and the shower heads. Low water pressure makes it almost 2 hours just to shower.
Enjoyed it. The baboons are a problem though; they were quite aggressive when we saw them at the reception buildings. It would have been nice if there was coffee available at the chalet.
The park's facilities are really neat and clean. The restaurant's food is excellent and the shop provides everything you will need for a few days. My only negative is that no form of game drive is offered. Since we were touring by motorcycle, we were hoping for a game drive that might have been offered.
Very neat campsite!
See stars.
Well laid out. Clean and tidy. Very friendly service.
Was surprised at the cleanliness of the park and will definitely use them again.
Clean, tidy, fantastic environment, baboons can be troublesome.
The chalets have all the basic kitchen facilities except a breadboard. Furthermore, everything was very nice in the chalet.
Great stay. Nice patio with barbecue, beautiful views. Central to visit surrounding places. Will return for sure.
Cute furnished place, very conveniently located! Friendly help from the people.
Must definitely form part of your bucket list.
SANParks Augrabies Rest Camp has too much to see to spend just 2 days there. One has to stay there for at least a week to see everything. Can't wait to go back. Restaurant's food is good.
We were there at the right time just before all the viewpoints were closed. Very pretty.
An incredible experience! Accommodation was clean and tidy. Staff friendly. Facilities in working order. Thank you very much! We would definitely advise people to visit and stay at Augrabies.
It was a lovely, peaceful visit.
Must be visited. The waterfall was in flood and beautiful to see. Staff very friendly and helpful when we wanted to deny other availability in SANparks.
Beautiful, lovely, peaceful environment.
Reception friendly and helpful.
The camp is nice and clean. The bathrooms are also clean and tidy and all facilities for dishes and washing are available and tidy. We were disappointed in the fact that we were not allowed to camp on the grass, but had to stand on sand. Everything else was pleasant, staff friendly and helpful and the natural beauty of course breathtaking.
Everything was clean and tidy.
The two nights we were there the shower gave problems every time. We could not stop the taps again. We called the given emergency number and within 5 minutes a staff member came to help. It was very nimble.
After the third move to various chalets, the last one was the best by far. It could be cleaner and looked after properly. The buildings are old so things are falling apart.
Very peaceful atmosphere. Chalets are very neat and everything you need is in there.
Lovely location, a pity that it is run a bit like an army camp.
In my opinion the best Sanpark in SA! The houses are spotlessly clean, the staff are incredibly friendly, the restaurant has the best view and the food is top notch (and affordable!) Fantastic! 100% recommend.
We really enjoyed our time here. Delicious barbecue in the evenings and you could hear the falls from our porch!
The best accommodation we have ever experienced in a SANparke resort.
An absolute pleasure to stay at Augrabies. The place is well-kept, clean and neat. Of course, the biggest plus point is the nature, a jewel in the desert.
See stars.
It was delicious, enjoyed it.
Staff friendly and helpful. Chalets clean and tidy.
Nice and quiet. Accommodation was adequate and the park beautiful!
Apart from the falls being in full flow, which was an incredible sight and experience, we were pleasantly surprised with the overall cleanliness and location of the main camp. The bedding, beds and pillows are of excellent quality. The self-catering has everything you need for your stay and a comfortable shop where you can buy forgotten spices and other articles. Of course we were also spoiled with a unit right on the edge of the river with a view of the main falls. We were there for three nights (two full days) which is enough to enjoy the park and experience all the beauty. Unfortunately my vehicle was too low to drive through the park as the tributaries to the falls were also in flood, so 4x4 is a must in that case. However, this did not make my stay with my mother there any less enjoyable. If you haven't seen the falls in full flow, do it, it's absolutely worth it.
Staff is very friendly. Felt safe, car was safe. All equipment in the residence worked. The park is very neat.
Pleasant surprise from efficient friendly staff. Campgrounds ultra neat and well maintained. Chalets well equipped.
The houses are 100 m from the falls, as now the falls were running very strong and in the evening silence you hear the roar of the water as it tumbles over the rocks. absolutely incredible.
Had a great time camping here. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The park offers great value for money.
The falls are special, but also explore the rest of the park. The staff are friendly and professional - always ready with a smile.
Our stay was pleasant. The chalet was neat and clean. Restaurant offers delicious meals.
Breakaway weekend for me and my wife - away from Covid and the hospital work. Back in nature for the best relaxation possible.
Nature and facilities were top-class.
We booked 2 camping pitches and 2 chalets. The park is well maintained, very tidy and the location is fantastic. Right by the falls! I took one star away from value for money because there were a few things that needed fixing in the chalets. There is also almost no cellphone signal, but that may not be a bad thing. We had a great time and will definitely go again.
We really enjoyed the hiking trail.
We really enjoyed our visit to Augrabies. Just staying so close to the falls was fantastic. My city kids were amazed to see so many stars!
Tell visitors in advance that persons over 60 receive a 40% discount during the off-season week. Recommend persons try to book units on the falls side (field view). Persons MUST also visit the park ride with the four viewpoints (ask at reception). It is nearby and only a few kilometers drive.
After a long journey it would be great to have (as with most overnight facilities) a container with coffee/tea and shelf milk in the chalet. Think most overnighters will enjoy and appreciate it. Can't they just factor the conservation fee into their rates? A better shower head would also help!
Spacious and well-equipped self-catering accommodation.
Many beautiful places to visit in the park.
Beautiful park. Neat and clean. Staff very friendly.
It was my first visit to the Augrabies, it exceeded my wildest expectations.
Quiet and peaceful accommodation with fantastic views of the falls.
Friends together had a great time in the peaceful surroundings.
Was very nice to spend the night here. Just a bit expensive for what you get. At least you can hear the waterfalls while you barbecue. The place is very beautiful. All complaints were that our barbecue was dirty. It wasn't cleaned so I didn't grill at all and the unit we had only had one chair outside on the porch so I just stood and sat my wife. Other than that, it's a nice place.
Very nicely rested in a neat, clean unit, with the murmur of the falls in the background, lets you admire nature again.
Very friendly staff. Pleasant stay with aircon. Shop and restaurant prices far above the average expensive environments in SA.
Very friendly service, nice surroundings, average restaurant. Will definitely stay there again.
Shower in master bedroom did not work, even though we reported.
Housing well could improve maintenance a bit, baboons were a problem, warn guests against them. Other than that, very good.
We camped for 2 days, saw the falls and rode our bikes on the vehicle route. We had a good swim and rested well.
What a great experience. The unit exceeded all expectations and was very clean and tidy. Can be recommended to anyone who wants to visit the Augrabies and surroundings. Just a pity we didn't have enough time to explore the park.
Very neat and comfortable.
The chalets were comfortable and value for money. Path along the falls in good condition and safe.
Accommodation was great and service was good.
The units were spotless, the service top notch, the experience unforgettable. A must for everyone.
Go there often to clear your head and it's successful every time. Service is great.
Wish we could have stayed longer!
The staff are welcoming and always helpful. This really is a home away from home for us. A great place to recharge. We fell in love with the landscape, sunsets and sunrises.
Accommodation was great, service was excellent.
Everyone is welcome to visit this park. It's peaceful and beautiful. It's a different world than we know, but also breathtakingly beautiful. The falls were exceptional and overflowing. It's an experience! We would love to visit there again!
Professional it met all my expectations!
The staff is very helpful and friendly.
My mother forgot her iPad in the room and the team at the lodge went out of their way to return it to us safely. Very honest, friendly and good service!
Staff was friendly. Accommodation was perfect. Very spacious and luxurious.
The place was clean and tidy. The staff is friendly. It was an experience to be able to experience the waterfalls yourself.
This was a fantastic weekend, spotless place to stay, with everything you need. We were pleasantly surprised with air cooling and indeed a generator when load shedding kicked in! The park is fantastic, the waterfall, the route through the park, the cleanliness and friendly service!
It's a must for everyone once in their life.
Was delicious and very beautiful.
Would like to see a light installed at your braai area at the chalet.
The unit is equipped with everything you will need and has a nice braai area. The park also has a small shop, petrol station and restaurant which is very convenient. The view from our unit was incredibly beautiful, words cannot describe how beautiful the waterfalls and sunrise and sunset are. It is definitely a sight to behold. We will be back again for a longer time.
Experienced good customer service and the campsite was extremely neatly maintained. A lot of effort has gone into the built walkways to provide safe access to the falls. In our chalet, there were no bowls for use in the microwave oven, which made it difficult to take full advantage of it. Overall a very positive experience.
One of the best visits to Augrabies ever! Service that is exceptionally good, also the friendliness of everyone. Everything was very well cared for and tidy.
The waterfall was impressive.
I am a single female traveler who stayed overnight in the campsite. I felt safe.
Was there with full moon - most beautiful landscape at night. The drive through the entire park (72km route) is really recommended. The units are neat and the camp clean, only a very big pity the restaurant and shop are closed.
Unlike any other part of our country! Loud, but it touches your heart!
Comfortable stay with excellent aircon in room of chalet. View from no 52 was breathtaking.
It was a shame that the restaurants were closed and the store didn't actually have stock - wasn't prepared for that. With so many visitors, the stock in the store is low. Otherwise we had a great time.
We only had time for the waterfall and we drove out to the Gorge Lookout. It was beautiful, but there are still walking paths and a pool that we will discover next time.
Chalet very well located. Quiet in the camp. Pool a bonus. Took granddaughter (4 years old) with me, had to pay extra but didn't even get extra towel.
We stayed in the 2 bedroom unit during the Feb 2021 floods. The view of falls is absolutely unbelievably beautiful. One can feel the water spray right up to the house. The unit is neat and clean and well equipped. The little shop offers basic essentials. Come prepared with your own food. Restaurant still closed.
The facilities at the waterfall are comfortable and tourism friendly. Enjoyed it a lot.
Will stay longer next time to explore the park.
See stars.
Spectacular place; especially worth it when the river is in flood like at present.
We are two elderly people and found the entrance to the chalets is sloping and the stairs are high without railings.
Everything was good and tidy. The unit we stayed in could do with an overhaul of the shower because the door is oddly built and the shower head no longer sprays well, but otherwise it was nice there.
TV does not work, no remote control for the air conditioning, outside windowsills and windows dirty, kitchen is comfortable; bottle pieces, plastic and cigarette butts along the walking areas. Doorknob screws pull out. Baboons very quickly in/out of the kitchen with our bread, at least a good laugh. The housekeeping and the maintenance teams may work better together with good management and high standards. Customer service was very good and friendly with picking up keys and giving general information. The man at the main gate immediately made us feel at home, providing comfortable and friendly conversation and information.
Reception neat. Restaurant decision, reason unclear. Allusion's neatness needs attention. The rest of the park is good.
Floors were dirty and dusty.
Experience with masses of waters.
The neighbour helped to get it switch on. I reported this to the office the next morning at 08:00 and a remote was delivered at 10:00. The small safe could not be locked since you were asked to press # but there was no # button? The door knob on the inside was loose and will fall of if the screws are not screwed back.
See stars.
Just wouldn't stay there again, done.
We enjoyed it very much. Nice walking, swimming, cycling.
Everything clean and tidy. We had a nice stay. Will stay there again. No problems and there was everything you need.
See stars.
Also felt very safe in camping camp, ablution is very nice and clean and staff were lovely and very helpful and friendly. Thank you for your hospitality and good service, and can also recommend the restaurant's food.
The falls are breathtakingly beautiful, and the service from the staff is great! Naughty, drunken students blew off my wheel, took our chairs from unit 10 to their unit 4 and burned them with coals, stole the mop and I don't know what they did with it. Was throwing up and making noise until after 2am. Krish and a nice lady (forgot her name) helped me nicely to get my tire inflated and immediately went to confront the 2 male and female students. Thanks again for great service and help! I really appreciate it!
Our stay was a pleasant experience. Initially booked into the Gorge Cottage but on arrival realized it was a further 40 min drive to the unit. If you want to eat in the restaurant and you are staying in the Gorge Cottage, please note that the gate closes early. We went to visit the cottage the next day and it is indeed beautiful. Just be informed that it is at least 40 min from the camp. The pools were full of algae and clearly hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Overall we had a great stay and our chalet was very well equipped and the air conditioning saved our lives.
Great getaway and overnight stay.
Will vissit the falls again.
Very tidy with everything you need.
Take powerbanks with you. There are no power plugs to plug things into.
The house was spotless as always and the scenery is breathtaking. One forgets how beautiful the stars can be
A very hot day, luckily the air conditioner was working well and the swimming pool was great.
Clean and tidy.
This is probably the worst experience I have ever had because the people are not trained.
I will not visit Augrabies again because above reasons and also not recommending friends for bookings at Augrabies.
The air-con of the place where we stayed 1st did not work, so they put us in a family unit which was excellent. Their service was good, just a pity the time was too short.
Big improvement since I was there many years ago. The paths are unsurpassed but the woodwork is in urgent need of moisture treatment. The wooden doors at the main building likewise.
Augrabies is a once-in-a-lifetime-must-see-experience! Breathtaking scenery, tidy ablution facilities, large pitches that give you the opportunity to camp with a lot of privacy. We were two families with small children, were there for four days, and it was great!
Was great, thank you very much!
Wonderlike ligging, sal verseker weer gaan!
What an amazing experience for a tourism teacher. We enjoyed it so much!
We and our friends stayed in West Coast for two of the chalets overnight. Chalets were clean and tidy, with everything you needed. Walking distance to waterfall. Braai facilities at chalets, but we ate dinner in the restaurant on the premises (quite expensive).
The park is well maintained and wonderfully peaceful. The cottage is very spacious and well equipped. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The footpaths to the falls are very well maintained, safe and it was a pleasure to also see the falls in the evening with parts of the lighted path. We will definitely come and visit again!
We enjoyed it, the chalets are well designed and offer all the basic facilities one needs on such a holiday.
We slept at Augrabies for a night. The cottage we were in was very nice and all the necessary plates and cups and cutlery were there. We also had a very nice view from the veranda. The dinner in the restaurant was well prepared and tasty. The only negative thing was that there was no water in the morning to shower or make coffee. We reported it to reception early, just after 6am. And by 10:00, when we had to leave, there was still no water. But we still had a reasonable stay.
Unfortunately, there was not much water to witness fairy tale world.
No complaints except that the monkeys really are a problem. They open windows and even doors.
We will always make a detour to come and see the waterfall again. The restaurant's meals are something special and always something to look forward to, especially with the region's fine wines.
Peaceful area. Easy access. Covered parking would be appreciated.
I can recommend Augrabies National park for campers. The park is safe and the ablution block is centrally located.
See stars.
The thundering sound of the water rushing through the narrow slit in the river is awesome, yet it had a calming effect on my soul. When you go further down stream the river almost come to a stop. Typically the calm after the storm.
The service is not that awesome. Very cold reception and service.
Had a nice stay but checked out highly frustrated - see above.
It's very beautiful at the falls, the place is neat and clean. This is one of many SANParks that you must visit in your life. It's just the price, but it's the same with all the SANParks camps. If you are a single person you pay a base rate of over R1 300 and that for one person to stay there for a few days, that's an awful lot. Wish they could cater for single travelers as well, that's all SANParks included. The prices are aimed at foreign tourists.
Camping 2 days. Never cleaned braai and bathrooms. No dustbin on your stand. Bathrooms outdated.
It was good to use SANPark. Just surprised when we checked out we had to pay day visit again even though we were already inside the park, but we have no problem with that.
What an experience. Neat well furnished accommodation. And the view is indescribably beautiful.
See stars.
We had a wonderful stay. Did our own 4x4 drive as well as the sunset game drive booked via reception. All 3 units were facing the path to the falls and the swimming pool in close proximity was most welcoming during our 38 and 40 degree days we spent there. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the falls. We had problems with the air-con in 2 units on arrival, but it was sorted out in no time by Augrabies staff.
Augrabies is the time and trouble worth as a one-two-night destination.
We enjoyed our visit. Breathtaking!
Just one shower and one toilet were in working condition and not clean at all. A pity such a beautiful place is deteriorating like that.
