It must be insanely difficult to manage such a remote place, and I want to say well done. Power is an issue, and I think solar should be considered because a generator is not only noisy, but was not working properly either.
Really enjoyed the mountain views and did the two self-driving loops twice.
The view is beautiful. Huts are quite cold because they are not properly sealed.
Excellent location. Sorry about the neglect of the facilities. Paying dear, plus conservation fee, and the roads are not maintained, the cottage's taps are broken, no water in the bathroom sink and TV that doesn't work. Very sorry about the reputation.
TV has no reception. Remote control has no batteries. Refrigerator not working. Boiler is broken. Faucet in the kitchen is broken. Tiles and paint need urgent attention. No electricity through the night. Electric blankets have no connections, so do not work. Toilet seat is loose.
Sink faucet in kitchen in unit 5 was loose. The wooden decks and the floors' grout inside the unit need attention.
Dis die mooiste, rustigste plekkie tussen die berge, baie cosy en ons het die beste tyd daar gehad.
Very nice stay and breathtaking view.
Dit was asemrowende uitsigte, en stil afgeleë. Baie wild gesien rondloop. Dit was regtig iets om te ervaar. Sal dit aanbeveel as jy bietjie wil afsluit om te rus.
Set high in the hills, the views from here have to be seen to be believed. Well worth a visit. The log cabins are simple but adequately equipped and with a fire at night can be quite cosy. On the slopes above there is scope to watch the wildlife. When the clouds come down, nothing can be seen of course, the cabins can draughty too. The double beds are not very generous.
Perfect for a couple, but I wouldn't take my small children there as you are in the middle of the mountains and they can fall off the slopes.
Mountain Retreat is a place where you find peace. It's quiet and incredibly beautiful. My negative comment is the place was not very clean.
We were at the Mountain Retreat just after 2pm and after 30 minutes of struggling and calling around, we were informed that we had to collect the keys from reception. Reception said it's always like this: get the keys from them. After 18:00 the keys must be picked up at the hotel.
We had a great stay at Mountain Retreat. The accommodation is nice and clean and well furnished. And the view is amazing!
There was a lot of effort. They gave wood and lightning. The view is out of the books!
We went in July. It was very windy but the chalet comes equipped with electric blankets, warm blankets and a fireplace which I thought were sufficient. My only suggestion is to maybe take extra lighting, as the lighting in the chalets are not adequate enough. Other than that, wake up early, stand on the stoep and breath, listen to the silence and enjoy. Would definately book here again.
Rest for the soul and beautiful landscape.
We really enjoyed everything about the place until midnight when the mice came out. A whole gang of very assertive little guys running on the bed headboards, the beds, the couches, the walls. Could not sleep and my daughter was petrified. Had to leave early in the morning as it became to crazy.
During our stay our food was eaten by mice. Visitors must be warned to store their food safely in the fridge. Even our coffee bags were gnawed on. The fire place is very dangerous and I bumped my head so it bleeds. Very sharp point that sticks out.
All that is not nice is the shower - the shower heads are very small and clogged and on day 2 there was no water. Would love to go again.
The view from your log cabin's porch is breathtakingly beautiful! Unfortunately, some of the cutlery in the drawers and cupboards were dirty and only half washed. The freezer drawers were also very dirty. The cabins have definitely not been maintained for years. If it wasn't for that, I would love to go there again.
We enjoyed and absorbed every second we were there. The views are beyond belief, the silence is so soothing and it is just such a special place to stay at and really truly rest.
The location was fantastic. Much more beautiful than in the photos. We received very good service. Really made an effort to accommodate us.
Pleasant stay in a wooden cabin with a breathtaking view. Well equipped with everything needed - crockery, cutlery, microwave, fridge, stove, fireplace, braai. Highly recommended. Just remember to take matches or a lighter with you.
The unit needs some attention, one of the windows in the master bedroom was broken, the lace curtain was torn, the front door had trouble closing. The unit was very clean and the view was breathtaking.
The log cabin, the park, and nearby Clarens is a must for a romantic getaway!
Amazing time spent and ladies at reception went the extra mile to ensure we had wood in our cabin. Will definitely visit again.
We had a wonderful stay. Beautiful setting and very private. The log house is well equipped. However, better braai facilities would be appreciated. The Weber grill outside on the porch was broken!
Staff friendly and helpful. Mountain Retreat is located in a beautiful setting, enough privacy, scenery and fauna and flora are excellent. Definitely value for money.
Reception was poor - didn't know who I was and had to produce all my booking proofs first, didn't know I'd been there before. Had to pay an extra amount because I'm not a member of SANParks - I didn't know that. There was no braai/weber at my unit. Borrowed from one of the other units. Leaving 2 bags of wood with 4 pieces of wood in a bag for the indoor fireplace is a joke, should have gone and bought my own wood. Was there 3 nights and the staff stayed next door and noisy with loud music at times.
