27 guests' feedbackOur family of four camped here for 3 days and didn't want to go home. The campsites are spacious and almost all under trees, so you feel part of the forest. The kitchen and bathrooms are very neat and clean, with the best showers of our trip. However, the baboons who walk into the camp out of nowhere in the morning are a big problem. Even though we tried to put away all food, one still grabbed our biscuit tin and ran off with it. They are not at all afraid of especially younger children, and my youngest was really afraid to stay at the tent alone in the morning if we might have to go to the bathroom. Despite the fact that we locked all the food in the wagon when we went to Storms River, the baboons unzipped our tents and among other things took my whole
Our stay was awesome, went hiking and fishing with the family. Place was clean and pleasantly welcoming. A definite return from us.
No canoes? It's a shame.
Good will come back again.
Wonderful stay, baboons were a bit scary, but no need to worry, they were not aggressive.
The linen was very neat and the place was spotless.
Very nice. Just a pity we had to ask for a grill, wine glasses and barbecue utensils. It was always there. They also did not sweep the cottage or porch during our stay. Other than that, everything was wonderful and beautiful.
The forest huts are cozy and cute, the paths through the forest are magical for the kids to explore, the kayaks are well maintained. Lovely safe swimming in the river and estuary. The booking process was an absolute nightmare. It took so many tries to pay the deposit that the bank cancelled our credit card. The website indicated no availability, but when we got there, 90% of the accommodation was empty.
Absolute circus to try to make any arrangements with the stay. We got there on February 5th at 11h55 and according to their records there was no reservation for us. They did have "loadshedding" during that time and informed us that their system would arrive 5 minutes later, and that they would "double-check" again and let us know only after 12h00. Bear in mind that we walked the Otter for 5 days, and were quite tired and sore by then. Another hour passed without any feedback, and we just fell into the road to look for alternative accommodation in Plett. 2 hours later they then let us know that they were through each other, and that the booking is indeed our way. Terribly unprofessional and definitely not a pleasant experience. Hope I never have to cross paths with them again. Accommodation was already paid, and lost everything.
The forest hut was as expected, it was great to stay close to the water.
We were late arrivals and all was organised exceptionally well.
Everyone was absolutely friendly except the lady in the main office. She was impatient and in a hurry to get home.
I would definitely go again. Definitely my new favourite spot along the Garden Route. Highly recommended.
Lovely and peaceful and very recommended.
Beautiful nature and environment. Unit clean neat well equipped. Bathrooms need attention.
Off season this is a gem!
Our stay was excellent, Jamima was extremely helpful and friendly, we felt so welcome and our forest hut exceptional. The staff at De Wasselot Restcamp made our stay very rewarding.
The chalets are awfully crowded, so if you want to get away and not feel compelled to talk to strangers, this is not the place to go unless you book both chalets, because between the 2 braai areas there is 1 table to be shared. Check-in times are quite late, only 2 hours, so if you want to do anything nice, just book 2 days or longer. We wanted to go for a hike, but we were told she would only give it to us the next day. SANParks in general are very good. I'd much rather go to Ebb & Flow for the money, but I don't think I'll go to Natures Valley Rest Camp again.
Beautiful surroundings with many birds. Cabin 1 has a view of the water. Clean, tidy accommodation. Friendly staff. Very fair. Would stay there again anytime.
The most beautiful and peaceful place, not too expensive and lots to do around.
Would have liked power connection at stand for fridge. Ablution was not clean with little space for clothes when showering. Garbage container at sites under trees not baboon-safe. Monkeys were troublesome and could not keep anything open.
We would have loved more time to explore the area further from this convenient base.
No pillowcases or towels. No teaspoons or braai utensils or dishcloth.
Took my 78 year old father for an as near camping experience as possible. We loved the accommodation and the facilities. The view in front of the forest hut was not maintained. Had two bushes that needed to be trimmed or removed and would completely change the experience of the view and stay. Litter everywhere. Baboons were a problem, but messes where not cleaned up at all. Place is fantastic. Price was good. Did not enjoy paying additional conservation fees. Should just be included into the price so that it feels less like being taken for a ride. Will definitely go back.
De Vasselot is currently managed by the baboons and monkeys of the area. Until Sanparke starts managing it, it cannot be recommended as a safe environment especially for children. The baboons and monkeys are not at all afraid of the people, and everything must be locked in your hut. Your food is grabbed by them even if you are inside the hut, and the door is open. They are not afraid of you, and do not stand back at all if you chase them away. They stole our food rations by gaining entry through a window, and sow chaos inside the hut. We couldn't let them go wild. If you are at the cabin, you must keep your doors and windows closed. Furthermore, the environment is fantastic, and there are wonderful hiking trails to do. It is a wonderland for the whole family, but unfortunately not safe because of the baboons.
The nature is clean and breathtakingly beautiful. We are unhappy about the ablution facilities that were not clean. Although we stayed in a cabin it would have been nice to have a fresh towel the next day due to the torrential rain the previous night/day. We are not dismissing it at all, just expected a bit more compared to other SANParks.
Pay attention to check-in times - they differ from the times on the website!
