4 guests' feedbackJust a pity the roads are very washed out, because they had a lot of rain in February. The park board did their best to scrape the roads, but still not in good condition.
The bedding is very old, full of Jik spots and holes. Toilet door cannot close. The blinds don't work. The roads are almost impassable. The direction signs can no longer be read, they are completely faded. A 20 km ride that we had planned turned into an almost 90 km ride due to direction indicators that are no longer legible. Luckily we drive a 4x4, because the roads are so bad that it would be impossible with a normal car. We are provided with a bag of wood for the donkey for hot water, but take at least another bag of wood with you, because one bag makes the water almost lukewarm. The silence and tranquility is wonderful. I believe the biggest problem lies with the management who sit at the office by the WiFi and do not know what is going on in the park. We drove to a campsite further past the house, but had to turn around about 1 km before the campsite because the road was washed away. This after the person at the office said we could drive to the campsite.
Paulshoek is the right place if you want to be quiet, do little. I had a lot of fun cycling up Gannaga pass, and just experienced our country's natural beauty. Don't expect luxuries, for that you can stay in a hotel. Expect a farmhouse, in reasonable condition, with oil lamps, a good fridge, and a donkey, struggling to heat the water for showering, and poor water pressure. The access roads are very poor (zinc plate). We stayed 2 nights, a third would have made the visit perfect. Imagine, no cell phone, no internet, no noise.
