Tsitsikamma offers 2 rest camps, each with their own magic and charm; Storms River Mouth Rest Camp and De Vasselot Rest Camp in Natures Valley. The Storms River Mouth Rest Camp, is situated some 615 km from Cape Town, 195 km from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) and 68 km from Plettenberg Bay.
Choose from well-placed Oceanettes, open-plan chalets, family cottages, forest huts or a standalone honeymoon cottage, all with living rooms and fully equipped, self-catering kitchens; something to meet everybody’s requirements and pockets.
The heartland of the Park stretches some 5 km to sea, protecting a wonderland of intertidal, reef and deep-sea life. Dolphins frolic in the breakers, surfing and playing for the sheer joy of life, and the gentle giant of the ocean, the southern right whale visit here, coming inshore to breed. The African black oystercatcher, a red data species, is one of South Africa’s most threatened bird species and several pairs nest along the Park’s rocky coastline. The beautiful Knysna loerie, with their gruff call, are common sightings in the forest. The Cape Clawless otter is a shy and elusive species that hunt crabs along the Park’s coastline. Blue duiker and bushbuck are seldom seen but can sometimes be glimpsed browsing around campsites.
Enjoy beautiful seascapes that contrast with the dense indigenous forests, well laid out walks, hikes, suspension bridges, boat trips and all from within the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp.

128 guests' feedbackIt was unbeatable, everything in excellent condition in the oceanette. Beautiful view with the sea right in front of you.
Perfect in every way the place and the accomadation were perfect.
One of the best parks in SA, we stayed in the Forest Hut, everything was in the hut that we needed, so much to do at the park, best view, very clean. We went on the Otter Trail to the waterfall that was amazing and beautiful.
Wonderful location, friendly staff. Once again, thanks to Cathy for assisting us with our booking. Lovely reception. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The shop had lekker braaiwood and meat, so it was not necessary to drive anywhere once inside. Neat and tidy, well-equipped chalets. Breathtaking views and well-maintained hikes.
Rest for our soul! Very nice.
Lovely on the sea and beautifully equipped place.
The stay was wonderful. It is a pity that there is no water in the hut itself, but the taps were close by. The bathroom that served the cabin is basic, but okay. The larger communal bathrooms were better.
Fantastic. Excellent service.
Too short to enjoy totally, but it was awesome.
It was a great experience.
Nice place! Always nice to be there.
Very friendly, helpful staff. The dead batteries in the TV remote were changed at 7.30 p.m., no bother. Kitchen worked, although only 1 very small Pyrex and lid. Another veg dish or 2 would be helpful. Small things. Good breakfast and a dinner at the very innovative Cattle Baron. Lovely walks. The boardwalk to the suspension bridge needs some attention. We enjoyed our stay and will return.
It was good. The scenery is magnificent, and the whole experience is hard to beat.
Place is beautiful. Everyone should visit once.
Wonderful place. The Lord made beautiful. Burns perfectly, every time. Beautiful beautiful beautiful.
The bathroom needs to be renovated. Many tile problems. Not up to the same standard as the rest of the chalet. Blinds in the kitchen and bathroom need to be replaced.
The park is beautiful!
Unreal location, beautiful nature and surrounds.
Storms River is simply wonderful. offers different types of accommodation for all groups and budgets. The shared kitchens and ablutions are clean, and I liked that each room received private cutlery and crockery that they could utilise in the common kitchens. The only restaurant inside the park is pretty disappointing.
A few small touches would have made a big difference, for example, soap in the bathroom, notification of load shedding awareness.
It was delicious, what we expected. Inside, very neat.
The conservation fees and tourism fees are misleading as this should be shown upfront in their rate. This would make you reconsider them as an option. We had a power failure for almost two hours. No attempt from the rest camp to advise what the problem was. They had our contact numbers and could have alerted us. No complimentary coffee or tea. This should have been noted upfront as we did not take any with us. Just a disappointing experience overall.
The overnight was a little disappointing; the cabin smelt musty and damp and the bathroom door was off its rail, with a cover, so trying to hook it back on was an unnecessary chore that made me feel I was at home, doing maintenance, unsuccessfully at that. Beautiful setting, the ocean sound in the background calming, but the cabin itself could do with an upgrade. Will book something with an ocean view next time.
Was not clean and dirty.
Very peaceful among the trees, enjoyed it a lot.
Unbelievably beautiful view, with nice and safe walking routes.
Unique nature area, beautiful birds and comfortable cabins that fit in with nature.
The park is beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Will definitely return for another holiday!
Nothing was missing.
Beautiful scenery! Neat accommodation in the forest huts. Everything nice clean and tidy. We had a great time with the sea on your doorstep. Calm and quiet. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves the natural beauty and the most beautiful hiking trails. All that is bad is the extra storage fees that have to be paid.
Nature is indescribably beautiful and you can recharge your "batteries" there.
Forest hut 19 (Witstinkhout) in which we lived is the best of the Forest Huts. Great location!
From our arrival to our departure everything was just wonderful. Friendly staff, comfortable and clean unit. The scenery is just fantastic. I will definitely come again.
We had the most beautiful new house. The house is clean and tidy. We could sit on the balcony and look at the sea. The sea broke against the rocks down here. It was like music to our ears. San Park was able to make a nice plan with the store and restaurant that burned down. We enjoyed delicious meals there and the shop has everything you need. Nice, San Park we can make plans. Keep it that way.
Despite the poor weather, I absolutely loved my stay and enjoyed the Forest Hut!
Beautiful unobstructed view of the sea, easy access for hiking trails and convenient restaurant.
Very cute place but cost would be better without extra gate entrance fees. Houthut is cute and fully equipped with all the necessary facilities.
Winter may not be the best time for a holiday, but it's a beautiful environment with lovely walking trails.
It's a lovely place to stay with a good restaurant. The boat ride was a highlight.
The environment is breathtaking. The monkeys and baboons just bother.
It's always something special to stay at the SANParks Storms River Mouth Rest Camp.
Housing is well located. It's quiet and blends in with the forest environment. Variety of accommodation to accommodate everyone. Well established area and many activities nearby.
A big baboon was pestering us on the first day we were there. I can only assume that the previous residents were feeding it. We felt a bit intimidated as it is a big baboon.
Would not stay in the Forest Hut in future if we intend to do self-catering. The Forest hut is ideal for a strictly one-night stay with no self-catering. Probably more suited towards tourists who are part of a group.
And it very wet in the house and the clothes wouldn't dry. . And it was no soap in the toilett for washing hands, that would be nice. . The floor was dirty and the chairs outside as well. But the location at the ocean it's awesome. Greetings and blessing.
Surroundings are beautiful. The house is small, no cupboards, too few pans.
Accommodation very run-down. Doors not closing and no door handles. Missing kitchen utensils and not clean. Hornet nests in the showers and braai dirty when we arrived and still had not been cleaned when we left. No official checking up.
Sea view is very beautiful!
The accommodation has all the basic items required. Possibly the accommodation is overpriced as there are no kitchen facilities apart from a fridge and microwave. The toaster didn't work, and there was only 1 teaspoon instead of 2. The linen was very neat and the bed slept great. The cabins are ideal overnight accommodation, but due to the quantity and placement of the cabins there is little privacy between the rear cabins. Front cabins with sea view might have compensated for the higher rates.
We had a great time in our chalet. Very central, right by the road to the Storms River mouth and ate at the Cattle Baron every night. Could also walk around nicely.
Very nice stay. It's an experience to wake up in the morning and hear the sea while you're in the forest. A suggestion: bring Doom for spiders, nothing serious, but there are small spiders.
Best coast line in South Africa and best place to view it.
Was very nice and comfortable.
We haven't stayed somewhere so nice in a long time. Place is clean, beautiful and so peaceful. Staff are so helpful and friendly. Can't wait to go again.
The scenery and fresh air was just what we needed.
Was our first time and won't be the last. I told my friends at work today what a beautiful place it is and also recommended them to visit you too.
The accommodation is not very well described on the platform. I expected a kitchen facility within the unit. Thankfully a camp kitchen was available. Please describe units more specifically.
Had amazing sightings of a whale feeding right opposite our sea cabana. Dolphins close to the shoreline and even a Rock Hyrax (Dassie) and striped field mouse. Awesome views.
Exquisite setting. Staff were helpful. The hikes were superb.
See stars.
Would love to go again or stay longer.
SANParks Storms River Mouth Rest Camp is perfect for if you need to stop over for an evening. It is also very close to a lot of adventure outings. The accommodation is pretty basic but if you only need a place to sleep it is perfect. There is a great restaurant and a shop where you can get whatever you need for your stay. Do not miss Untouched Adventures kayaking when booking your stay here. It is one of the most incredible experiences.
The pristine environment is currently being disturbed by the construction work. If I had been aware of this I might have chosen a different destination.
Unit toilet was broken. Oceanette E.
The location is beautiful, but the accommodation is not worth the money. The place wasn't the cleanest, the microwave didn't work, the toilet didn't flush properly etc. It's a shame, because the SANParks are our country's pride. For the same money, I would rather stay in another place near the park and just go through for the day to enjoy the beautiful nature.
Mom and son booked for 5 days, paid in full. Only to find that we still had to pay a parks fee daily, even though we did not leave the park. R136 daily! Secondly, the massive baboon allowed to roam freely amongst rubbish bins, eating and stealing food from visitors without anyone doing something about it, is a serious life threat and discomfort. Thirdly, we ran out of drinking water. Both got tummy bugs from drinking the water. Not pleasant! No signs up to say not to drink water. Fourthly, they randomly placed us in huts, first night without a bathroom. There is a number on each hut which makes choices easy.
Beautiful nature that makes you adventurous for life. Little birds that sing so beautifully the sea's hissing in your ears. Is rest and peace for the soul.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. We just enjoyed the environment and clean atmosphere.
Restaurant cold, no atmosphere, food OK. Couldn't get rice with my calamari.
Beautiful forest cabin with everything needed to break away from a busy town life. I love the place where we stayed, next to a clay waterfall and beautiful sea view. The suspension bridge and its views are also stunning, and the waterway on the way there. I wish I could stay longer, but would definitely go again and recommend it to anyone, the staff were professional and friendly, the little shop had the essentials, and a restaurant by the sea. I just loved it.
A place where you can just be. Immaculate and pristine! Beautiful view and the most delicious breakfast at Cattle Baron. A real piece of heaven on earth.
Great stay, wonderful nature, splendid sea views, wonderful suspension bridge experience. Great restaurant. Conservation fees an unwelcome extra.
Beautiful clean place.
It was everything and more than we expected. So close to the sea, incredible views and just great rest. Sorry we couldn't stay longer.
An awesome place to visit, well worth the long journey as well as the costs we had in order to get there. Everyone should it experience it at least once in a lifetime!
Very neat and beautiful camp.
On entering, one is slightly skeptical about the "forest hut" with its limited, basic content. We were also disappointed that we didn't have a sea view, but changed our minds very quickly. Sleeping in a forest while hearing the roar of the sea was an experience and one becomes so attached to the cabin that you leave with a heavy heart. Walking opportunities are unlimited and the nature is beautiful.
An experience in nature which one should not miss out on.
See stars.
Friendly staff, A place worth going.
Friendly staff.
Very friendly and helpful staff!
Amenities are deteriorating. Refrigerator in unit had to be replaced over the weekend. No grill at the braai place. Had to search for one.
We stayed in a Forest Hut. The scenery is amazing. You must visit to experience it. Cattle Baron restaurant situated on the rocks with awesome views. Food was delicious and service great. You are allowed to do the first day's hike along the Otter Trail if you stay in Storms River. Very steep and tough to get back up but worth it. Forest huts are small and no running water in huts. Make sure you arrive with water containers. Huts have heaters, cutlery and kettle with table inside and braai facilities outside. Self-service laundry is situated near ablutions.
Everything in and around was clean except the fridge was dirty and the water ran out onto the cupboards. Maybe they can just pay attention to it. However, the environment compensates for everything and it remains an experience to spend the night there and the rushing water.
No hot water in the ladies ablutions, the huts way over priced. We managed to get a hotel room cheaper with amazing landscape and views.
A quick getaway with my mom. Just what we needed. We lost my father a year ago to bone marrow cancer and then right after that Covid started the whole lockdown. It has been a mixed year for all people. This was the perfect getaway with a beautiful view of the sea and then at the same time waking up in the morning with birds chirping around you. Was privileged to be able to see the Knysna Loerie just above our heads while we were drinking delicious coffee on our densely wooded cottage's "porch". Enjoyed the Waterfall trail in particular. Didn't realize I was going to have to climb on all fours over the rocks but it was definitely worth the climb. Beautiful! Everything needed is available in these huts. Cute little bathroom and beds sleep great!
I will definitely visit the place again, just for longer than one day because of a lot to do. Ablution for Forest Huts can improve.
First time here and we will be back!
Friendly and helpful staff.
We stayed in the Honeymoon Cottage (there are 3). If you want privacy and tranquility this is a must. The view and sea breathtaking.
Storms River is a nice place for a holiday.
Will return in a few years.
Nature makes anything else unimportant
We slept very well in the cute, cozy house (it was cold and rainy) and the view is amazing. We saw dolphins and whales up close and squinted at the spectacle of waves against the rocks. Unfortunately the shop was closed during our visit.
Would have preferred that we were notified in advance that "Shop" burned down. Nearest shop several kilometers away.
Chalet in bad state of disrepair.
Unit was beautifully clean, only a stones throw from the sea. Sufficiently equipped to meet basic needs. Will definitely come back again.
The staff was helpful and friendly. Our cottage was neat with the most beautiful views. We will definitely go again.
It is a beautiful place and a visit here is a must!
Breathtaking scenery and location. A must for nature lovers.
Very clean, lovely setting and definitely one of the best parks.
See stars.
We had a very nice stay. I hadn't been to a SANPark in years and didn't know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised by the overall cleanliness of the entire park! Our little house was clean and nothing was out of place. The day walking routes are also well marked and very nice to explore the area a bit. We would recommend Stormsriviermond to anyone!
It's the best place to go to just chill, would recommend to anyone. The place we stayed in was small but with everything you need was there. There is only one description for the place: fantastic. Can't believe we've been driving by all these years and don't even know what a fantastic place it is.
From the moment we arrived at the rest camp we were amazed. It is very well looked after and the experience was priceless. Bathrooms etc. all was in very good and clean condition. Will definitely return.
In order to feel like you have been on holiday when you have only one weekend available, this is the place to go! Beautiful coast, lovely walks and a restaurant with the best view possible! Will definitely put this one on our favourite list.
Stroms River Mouth is great.
Forest cottages are ideal for 2 people. Everything you need - fridge, microwave, cutlery. You get forest experience but are by the sea. Delightfully cool under the enormous trees. Will definitely go again. Deliciously relaxing.
For us it was the perfect stay and one of the most memorable experience in South Africa.
We had a cottage with a wonderful sea view. The place is small but has everything needed and we stayed lovely.
Lovely stay with beautiful views. Everything clean and tidy. Very good service.
Accommodation excellent, reception service was rather slow but staff were very helpful units were very good with plenty of hot water.
Incredibly friendly and professional service. The resort is simple and efficient. The cottages have everything you need, even a spotless grill that is cleaned again during your stay. The resort is peaceful and quiet.
The location of the chalet was unbeatable.
Really value for money. Beautiful surroundings. Here you can rest while surrounded by the most beautiful scenery in the whole world. Why look overseas for something that is on your doorstep.
On arrival, reception was very busy, only having one person to attend to and we waited very long. Otherwise, it was great!
Ideal nature break with the sea on one side and the forest on the other.
The Forest Hut is hidden under the trees almost on the beach with the birds chirping around you and the waves in the background. The only objection was the amount of day visitors that were bussed into the public areas on a Sunday, although access to the paid camping area was blocked off, it was still a bit awkward to move around the public areas.
Accommodation is expensive when compared to equivalent elsewhere but it is worth the investment.
Unit acceptable, but needs urgent maintenance on building work. Windows do not close fully. Floor in bedroom sloping. Furniture dated and old. Overall it looks sad and neglected.
Nature in the area is definitely worth the money. Unfortunately, the maintenance of the cabin (number 24) was not worth the money. Kitchen cabinet door that fell off, heel that had to hold the front door was broken, the sliding door to the toilet had to be opened or closed with all force, the shower taps had to be tightened as tight as possible otherwise it dripped all night. After a long drive, a little ice will be welcome in the fridge, but unfortunately no ice and no ice tray. This is unacceptable for the amount you pay.
Beautiful environment, fantastic half day hikes to viewpoint and waterfall. The chalets are basic, but clean and comfy.
Over a year ago the restaurant burnt down and still nothing has been done to rectify this, the temporary restaurant is cold and uninviting and I'm sure has a negative to many tourists.
When we booked we were made to be under the impression that only a few spaces were available. So when we got there we saw empty accommodation that we would have preferred. We booked and were told that that space wasn't available and were given a cheaper room. We have paid for the more expensive space so need a credit.
Beautiful area. Very peaceful. Friendly staff.
