Located in the northern part of South Africa where the country meets with Botswana and Zimbabwe. Mapungubwe National Park is rich in history as it is in wildlife and flora, and is filled with numerous patches of land that poses traces of ancient civilizations and artefacts. Mapungubwe serves both as National Park declared in 2004, and a World Heritage Site declared by UNESCO in 2003.

Tshugulu Lodge is a luxury lodge located in the Western section of the park, approximately 23 km from the Main Gate, along the R572 Pondrift Road. Experience bushveld lavishness where the large and dangerous animals like to roam. Unguided walking is not permitted, as guests will be sharing their stay with the surrounding wildlife inhabitants of Mapungubwe. A striking setting of giant regal Baobab and Mashatu trees, riverine forests and allied plains makes the experience memorable.

This luxury lodge sleeps 12 people in 6 bedrooms, making it the unique retreat for intimate groups of people who enjoy gathering around the campfire to share stories of the day’s wildlife sighting.

Added facilities include an equipped kitchen, a bath, swimming pool and an exclusive eco-trail where one gets to learn the secrets of the surrounding environment. The lodge is accessible with a normal sedan vehicle.

Mapungubwe’s restaurant offers a comprehensive menu, and pre-packed dinners are available on request. Other facilities at Mapungubwe include picnic sites and a day visitor centre, a Limpopo and Shashe rivers Confluence Lookout Point, a treetop boardwalk, Maloutswa Bird Hide, and an auditorium ideal for educational groups or small conferences and can seat up to 50 guests.

The Mapungubwe Interpretive Centre, an amazing building that won the World Building of the Year in 2009s World Architectural Awards, was constructed to house a museum with many of the artefacts uncovered from archaeological sites in the park. Information on the park's fascinating history and biology is also available at the interpretive centre with knowledgeable guides on hand to take visitors through the centre.

All Mapungubwe’s camps are accessible by normal sedan vehicles, but it is advisable to have a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle to ensure an enjoyable drive inside the park. There are also a number of eco-trails for which a 4x4 is required.
Approximately 35 km of roads are suitable for normal sedan vehicles. A further 100 km is accessible to all-terrain 4x4 vehicles. All the roads within the park are gravel.

Mapungubwe National Park is divided into an Eastern and Western section, separated by private lands in between which does not form part of the Park. Bookings at Tshugulu Lodge, Limpopo Forest Tented Camp, Mazhou Camping Site and Maloutswa Bird Hide requires one to drive outside the park in order to rejoin the Western section of the Park where the camps are located.
No caravans are allowed in the eastern section of the park due to roads conditions. We have a caravan park at Mazhou camping site on the western section of the park.

Guests should take precautions against malaria when visiting Mapungubwe.

Mapungubwe has a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as a curio shop/mini confluence shop selling snacks and refreshments. The restaurant and curio shop are located at the main gate.
The restaurant operates from 07:00 a.m. to 16:00 p.m and offers a comprehensive breakfast and light lunch menu. Pre-packed dinners are available on request; orders have to be placed before 14:00 p.m. and collected before 16:00 p.m.
The closest shops and fuel supplies to Mapungubwe are in Alldays and Musina, both about 70 km from the Park.
There is no cellphone reception in all the camps, only at the main gate.
The are no debit card facilities available in the Park. Payments can only be made via cash or credit card. Cheques are not accepted.
Mapungubwe National Park is an area with large and dangerous game animals and unguided walking is not permitted. Guests, who would like to arrange activities such as walks, drives and visits to cultural attractions, can do so directly with the Park.

Mapungubwe has a designated picnic and day visitors’ centre, wood is available at the restaurant. Please note that open bakkies with people at the back are not allowed.

The use of drones inside (and over) our national parks is strictly prohibited.
No smoking is allowed inside the accommodation.
