The main house was built by German Schutztruppe in early 1900s and is now the residence of the von Schauroth family. Rich in history and culture, Savanna Guest Farm is a traditional Namibian sheep farm where true Namibian hospitality, local food and good wine dominates.
Savanna Guest Farm is owner-managed and offers relaxed and tranquil accommodation in safe surrounding without having to off-load your whole car. This is an opportunity for foreigners to experience a typical Namibian farm and to meet the friendly local Namibian people.
The guest farm provides guests with stylish tranquil surroundings, set in a Colonial-style, with a focus on elegance, incorporating both old and new. Stylish, spacious, self-catering family en-suite units are available. These units are air-conditioned and equipped with ceiling fans, and a shower en suite with a toilet. 2 double rooms are also available to guests. All rooms have their own tea- and coffee-making facilities.
A hearty breakfast is served to guests, with the smell of freshly made coffee and bacon, filling the air. You will be served by friendly staff, ensuring you get a good start to a beautiful day. A fully licensed bar is available to our guests. Fine wine is served.
Dinner is available by prior arrangement. Dinner consists of local food, specializing in lamb from the farm and prime venison cuts. A romantic candlelight dinner is prepared for our guests from our local farm kitchen. Good food and good company with a glass of good wine is the best way to end the day. All food is freshly prepared in our kitchen from the best organic foods locally available.

57 guests' feedbackWe had a very nice stay. Arrived later than we planned, but we were still warmly received. Dinner was kept warm for us!
We had a lovely, warm overnight stay here. Perfectly situated for travel from or to South Africa. Very affordable and the host was very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend. The breakfast was also lovely!
Excellent stopover from the Cape en route to Windhoek. The host welcomes you warmly. The meals and cash bar are some of the best. It's wonderfully quiet, beautiful surroundings, far enough from the main road that you don't hear traffic. Can't help but sleep well.
Clean and tidy. Had a wonderful overnight stay.
Very nice stay and visit. Savanna is a bit "rustic", but we have stayed here before and will again. The peasant food dinner is very tasty and value for money. The owner and staff are very friendly and he chats well. One of our favorite stops in Namibia. Swimming pool is a pleasure in the hot weather.
Lovely stay in beautiful surroundings. Dinner was, as usual, very nice. Beautiful place to go for a walk after a long day of driving. We come again.
Best value for money place, host was even very friendly and welcoming.
The welcome was very pleasant. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The buildings are old, but very neat and clean inside. We asked for a cold room and they specially put one on for us. We had a good barbecue and danced at the closed braai/shed. The owner and I had a nice chat until late at night. Definitely going to sleep there again in October 2024.
Clean, safe accommodation perfect for an overnight stay on the way home.
Beautiful farm located between the heads at the Karasberge area. We were welcomed by Aora, the biggest and friendliest boerboel dog you've ever come across. Monica prepared the most delicious peasant food dinner for us and together with Erich, our host's hospitality, we experienced one of the most enjoyable evenings in Namibia. If we go that way again, we definitely want to stay a few nights longer. Only criticism would be that the WiFi signal was a little weak in the rooms and also that the hot water pressure struggled a bit with the showers. Other than that, 10 out of 10! Thank you very much!
Delicious dinner, friendly hospitality and excellent value for money.
Nice for a stopover between Cape Town and Windhoek.
Lovely spacious room, attention paid to smaller details, such as homemade biscuits, extra coffee and also made a plan to accommodate us for a barbecue!
We spent the night after driving from Grootfontein in the morning. The next day drove to Durbanville. Will definitely stay here again. The dinner was very nice after the long drive. The room is well equipped, beds are comfortable and deliciously warm.
An ice cold glass of wine and beer refreshing on arrival. Comfortable overnight stay. We enjoyed the space and lawn after many hours in the car. The children enjoyed the goats and horses on the front step. Dinner was delicious cooked food.
Savanna never disappoints. We always feel at home there and we are happy that their facilities and service have only improved over the years and are not declining in any way. Hospitable, convenient and comfortable.
We only needed an overnight spot on a 2500km trip and Savanna was about halfway. No complaints except for poor WiFi connection.
A comfortable overnight stay with a delicious home-cooked meal was just what we needed. The chalet's air conditioner was welcome for the cold night.
What a night to remember, having dinner together with the host and other guests and sharing our stories and memories. Feeding the baby goats with a milk bottle and the beautiful Boerboel-dog walking side by side with us. Such a beautiful dog.
Savanna was basic but clean accommodation with the option of meals. The scenery was something special.
Had a great stay, thank you.
A scenic place with a really friendly host.
The farm road is beautiful, the accommodation very tidy and the view is incredible. We were kindly welcomed by a giant guard dog. The evening was peaceful and we were able to rest well after a long day on the road. Breakfast was perfect for energy for the day ahead.
Rooms contain the basic stuff.
Booked and paid in full only to be told by guest house that I only paid the deposit! I had to go find my bank statements and show them to the guest house to prove that I made the full payment with booking.
The owner knows that I made the booking, but did not confront me about a balance that he claims was outstanding according to him. The owner spoke to my friends who were with us about money owed to him instead of confronting me. He could have just confronted me about it and I would have shown him the proof of payments.
Our maltese hung out together. The host and staff are so helpful. We ordered barbecue packs, served with salad. The other guests got a delicious meal. Will definitely stay there again and again and again.
Very nice host. Made to feel very at home and was very friendly and helpful. Peaceful setting with a farm feel.
Beautiful farm, Erich is a friendly and welcoming host who thinks of the small details. Delicious food!
Owner was particularly friendly and helpful. Nice walk with the boerboel and listening to lovebirds. We had a great time, delicious dinner and breakfast. Would definitely recommend it.
Easy booking, quick response. No additional charges. Wood also provided without additional charges.
Erich was friendly and made me feel at home. The whole atmosphere is relaxed.
The rooms are very comfortable, very good beds, mattresses and nice and warm bedding.
WiFi only has strong enough signal in dining room ─ not in rooms.
Really enjoyed, clean, tidy, beautiful nature, very good food, cool pool and good company.
We were 2 couples that stayed with Eric at Savanna for 2 nights after the Fish River Canyon hike. From the delicious dinner and braai the next evening to the flock of rosy-faced lovebirds and Auro, the beautiful Boerboel, we thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and will definitely recommend it. The facilities were more than sufficient and the peace was just what we needed to think back on our hike. It is conveniently close to Hobas. We really had a nice time.
Our family stayed at Savanna Gastehuis twice on the way between Bloemfontein and Windhoek. Erich is an excellent host and will make sure everything is perfect. The family rooms are comfortably furnished with white linen & towels and attention to detail. Dinner is top notch home cooking, definitely consider booking for this!
Heerlike atmosfeer, gasvry en welkom.
A nice farm feeling with clean and spacious rooms. The hospitality is top notch and the chef's dinner is a must! Would definitely go back again but would like to stay longer then. Thank you very much!
Far enough from the B1, no road noise.
Nice quiet environment.
See rating.
Enjoyed the dinner that was prepared for us.
It was pleasant and as advertised.
We had a great time at Savanna. The room was neat and clean and had everything you need. We took the braai parcels option and were very impressed with it. Staff is very helpful. Will stop there again!
Was 'n baie aangename ervaring, sal weer terugkom.
We are so glad we chose Savanna Guest Farm to stay at. What a gem of a place that takes you far back in German history. We had a warm cordial welcome and immediately felt at home in the neat, fresh rooms that were offered to us. We will not forget the hospitality and the delicious dinner. At bedtime it was quite cold on the farm and what a treat it was when we could turn on an air conditioner in the room to sleep nice and warm after a long journey. We regret we couldn't stay there longer, the stone heads around the farm are incredibly beautiful, especially at dusk. The tower according to the old stone house reminds of the fairy tale about Rapunzel. Will definitely stay there again on our next Namibia tour!
Quality linen (in white) is appreciated. Room 2 is sufficient for two (at the beginning of May 2019 we did not need to test air conditioning or roof fan). Kettle, milk for coffee, biscuits suitable for type of room. Self-catering in combination with Room 2 is not recommended: it's just a room with 2 beds and a chair (there is a larger suitable room with its own braai available for this). The dining room looks very comfortable and friendly (we didn't use it). We pay R800 (for 2) without breakfast which feels a bit expensive for a very ordinary, but neat room.
See stars.
A lovely place in the middle of nowhere! Spectacular view from the top of the hill right next to the farm!
I would have liked to meet the boss of the farm as well, but unfortunately he was away on family commitments. Know each other since student days.
Very clean and tidy. Nice farm food for dinner and breakfast!! It's a "Must!!" Owner (Erich) went cycling with us and told interesting stories. Could easily stay on farm for a week!
We really enjoyed staying there. Lovely farm atmosphere with friendly, helpful service.
Was a quiet breakaway and everything we required was provided for.
The children enjoyed swimming. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful.
Can definitely get better value at some of the other guesthouses.
