Ser·en·dip·i·ty (sĕr′ən-dĭp′ĭ-tē). The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident. Serendipity Cottage lives up to its name as this was certainly the case during my recent visit to Gauteng. What a happy discovery it turned out to be. This is without a doubt one of the nicest guesthouses in Gauteng. The booking via Lekeslaap was flawless, and Andrew is the perfect host ensuring everything is in place. Your "home away from home" (the cliché is an apt description) is a separate cottage in a beautiful, well-tended garden with mature trees. It has a spacious living room with cozy furniture and a large screen TV with DStv. The kitchen is well equipped, has a large microwave oven, and even has an induction stove if you feel like cooking yourself. Everything is impeccably clean, including the very comfortable king size bed and a variety of pillows. Starting the day after a great shower in a spacious bathroom makes it easier to face the big city, especially if you come from a small town, like me. Although safety is a high priority for visitors to Gauteng, they can rest assured that this place is as safe as it can be. It is located in a gated community with all the usual safety features. Load capacity is not a problem. The cottage is served with a solar power and UPS system which ensures that guests are unaware of those nasty blackouts. A complimentary and strong Wi-Fi signal connects you to the crazy world out there, although the tranquility of the area makes you wish it wasn't necessary. And best of all, it's affordable.

We had a lovely stay at Serendipity Cottage. The wonderful quiet in the middle of Douglasdale was a bonus. Andrew is a thoughtful host and was always available when we wanted to know something. A tasteful information booklet gave us all the information we needed regarding check-out, security, restaurants, Uber, deliveries, kitchen equipment and WiFi. The cottage is beautifully furnished and luxury quality linen and towels. The kitchenette has everything you need and there are excellent restaurants in the nearby area. We will definitely stay there again!
