Serendipity is the perfect spot for a nature-filled getaway. Each accommodation has its own unique charm while remaining comfortable and inviting. Lizzie, the host, goes above and beyond to ensure guests feel welcome and well cared for. The relaxed atmosphere really allows you to unwind and fully appreciate the beauty of the surrounding environment. Highly recommend for anyone looking to recharge in nature!
Absolutely stunning location. 'Hidden Valley' just outside Hogsback, beautiful natural forest, alive with birdlife, bees and butterflies! To top it off, the creek flowing on the valley floor has rock pools and melodic small waterfalls to enjoy. Amazing forest hike on the property is well marked. Not too long, but it doesn't have to be. Nice steep workout coming back to the cottage!

This was our second stay at Serendepity. This time we took our parents to experience this little piece of heaven. We love Serendepity. It feels like you're one with nature, with nothing but the sweet sounds of nature and the spectacular views.
Lizzie and Charl were lovely hosts. The location, with amazing views, was magical. The rooms were comfortable with a fireplace in one of the bedrooms. We were two families (young children) travelling together. Our house was probably better suited to one family rather than two. Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to go back soon.
We had fun and enjoyed the view of the forest.

We absolutely loved Serendipity. I've done a few trips to Hogsback over the years, but the combination of this location and the great service from the host was second to none. The whole family loved it. It has everything you need and includes a lovely forested walk to a rock pool on the property itself.
Lizzie is a wonderful hostess. Even Star is a lovely cottage with a fantastic view. We enjoyed every moment there.

The stay was wonderful. Upon arrival, we received the warmest welcome from Lizzie, who took us on a tour of the cottage. The personalised message on the board in the kitchen was a thoughtful gesture. The cottage had everything we needed. Besides the fact that Hogsback itself is a great place to be, Lizzie and Andries were so warm and welcoming, we didn't even feel like guests.

Serendipity is definitely worth it and absolutely beautiful, just be aware it's quite a rough road to get there, and small/low cars need to drive carefully.

Very beautiful home away from home. I loved the peace, tranquility, and calm spirit there, it's therapeutic.
We stayed in Evenstar Cottage, which has a double bed upstairs and a bunk bed downstairs. There is a bathroom both upstairs and downstairs, which was super convenient. There are several balconies and windows with stunning views. The cottage has all the home comforts you could possibly want, including a very good fireplace, loads of wood, a Weber, and electric blankets, which were very welcome as the weather was freezing. Our hosts had thought of absolutely everything and we loved our stay.

Loadshedding was a problem. 4 hours off at a time. Then no hot water to shower in the cottage. There was no one to welcome us. Looking for a house myself. Everything was neat and clean.

Nature tells you all about God's wonderful creation.
The hospitality and accommodation was superb. The view was head and shoulders above the rest as were the hosts. The self-catering cottage was fully kitted with everything you could need or want, with very thoughtful touches, like wood for the fire place and a box of cookies to enjoy snuggled up in front of it, upstairs and downstairs heaters, extra blankets and a homely touch. The only thing you need to bring are clothes and a smile. Honestly, it was more like being in your own home rather than an accommodation. With 3 balconies and all glass doors it was like being outside in the forest even when you were enjoying a stay in. I almost asked to move in.
Definitely will return for more exploring and hiking.
This was our first visit to Hogsback. It's a very peaceful town with interesting hidden places, e.g. labyrinth, walking paths, chocolate shop and CBD products. Everyone in town was friendly. We were very sorry that the pottery studio was not open. Lizzie and Charl were excellent hostesses and hosts. The kitchen was well equipped and very clean. The gas stove and fireplace were especially welcome during load shedding. It can get cold in the cottage, but the electric blankets on all the beds help against the cold. We definitely want to visit Hogsback again, because 2 nights is too little.
Unfortunately missed out on snow again but otherwise everything was very nice. The hiking trails and waterfalls make up for it.

Serendipity is more than what advertising can display. It is in the popular weekend visitor of the Eastern Cape but it is also the Gem of Hogsback.

Had a guided tour down to the river and back by Gabriel, the cat. So peaceful and welcoming.
We had a great week, an afternoon on Treebeard cottage's porch felt like a weekend away. It's so quiet and peaceful and the view is incredibly beautiful. Children were obsessed with Gabriel, the cutest ginger cat ever. The garden and walkways on site are beautiful and there are interesting decorations everywhere. The fairy houses were a big winner. Lizzie and Charl are wonderful people. We would love to vacation here again. Hogsback is a very special place.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Serendipity. It offered more than we expected. Words can't really describe the beauty. We've been to Hogsback many times before but we found this much more tranquil and quiet. The bird song is lovely. Only "complaint"electric blanket didn't work. Parents with small children should note the size between the bars on the balcony is quite large. Everything in the cottage is comfortable and tasteful. Complimentary tea, coffee and chocolate on arrival was a special touch. We would love to come back.
Traveling on a budget we booked into Serendipity budget accommodation. we arrived to find that Lizzie and Charl had upgraded us to a fantastic bungalow with stunning views. At no extra cost. We were offered a third night at no charge but we had to get back on the road so sadly could not stay. I recommend them without hesitation.

The views are spectacular. We stayed in one of the cottages/house with bedrooms and a large deck upstairs, so the kids and I spent most of our evenings outside taking in the forest and mountain views. Then we huddled in front of the fireplace in one of the bedrooms every night. Pity we didn't get around to taking a forest walk on the premises due to rainy weather. Looking forward to our next stay!
I would love to have spent more time here, especially alone, as it is the perfect place to relax and self reflect. I would note that this is not the accommodation for elderly or physically impaired people, as it can be a bit harder to reach all the beautiful spots, but once you are there, the views are mind-blowingly beautiful.
Haven't experienced so much kindness in a long time and when we wanted to drive to buy bread upon arrival, Lizzy simply gave us 1 from her own kitchen!
Serendipity is a hidden gem! Excellent location, most beautiful view, safe, and with its own walking path. Charl and Lizzy are excellent hosts and immediately make you feel welcome. Faith Cottage was more than what I expected. It was bigger than what I thought it would be. Had a beautiful 3 night stay. It was a lovely "recharge to our batteries". It is so peaceful and relaxing there.

The hostess personally took us to the unit and explained how everything works. The unit met all our needs. After we left, host contacted us to make sure we traveled through the Katberg Pass safely, as the weather deteriorated. The walking trail on the site was a surprise. The silence and calm of the area also fell to us.

If you need to get away from the rat race or need to find time for your partner again - Serendipity is the place to go! This is a special place to re-connect with nature and God's creation. Sleep warm and comfortable. Do the walking trail through the beautiful garden and amazing woods. Enjoy a sundowner on the deck in clean fresh air - and decide when you are booking your next visit. We travelled with our 8 year old and our much older daughter and stayed in the Evenstar Cottage. For a family with toddlers it could be challenging. The view over the valley from both the upstairs and downstairs is beautiful and the whole property has a relaxed atmosphere. We were able to see Samango monkeys and a Knysna Turaco from the room. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a private braai. The beds were comfortable and lots of very hot water from the shower. The hosts were very accommodating and helped us with anything we needed. WiFi worked better upstairs. We could've stayed longer.

Rainwater is harvested into Jojo tanks. It is recommended you boil the water before drinking.
Please refrain from smoking indoors and use ashtrays as provided.
Please extinguish all cigarette butts in the ashtray and not in the forest.
1 Basket of firewood is provided and thereafter it is R50 per bag.
Please turn down loud music by 10 pm to respect other guests and forest creatures who need their sleep.
Please note we have a septic tank so please do not throw anything besides toilet paper in the
toilets (See signs in toilet rooms).
Please note that all showers have one inlet water tap.
Turn this tap on full to allow hot water to flow.
Please do not feed the monkeys, you will be doing more harm to them and us as they will then expect to be fed on a regular basis by all guests.
