The cottage offers 2 spacious bedrooms. The main bedroom contains a double bed and the second bedroom contains 2 single beds. Moreover, 2 child-only mattresses can be arranged before arrival. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a shower and the main bedroom leads out through double French doors onto a patio area.
The kitchen is well-equipped and has great views of the olive trees. The living area has a large dining table with a library of books, magazines and games as well as a lounge with comfy seating, a sleeper couch and TV with essential package DStv and Wi-Fi.
The lounge area flows to the patio through double French doors, with plenty of seating on the patio. The patio has braai facilities and great views of the cottage garden and river. The grassy embankment next to the river is the perfect place for picnics or braai or relaxing under the large trees. The cottage has a small jetty ideal for fishing, swimming, canoeing and bird watching
Small house-trained dogs are welcome, please note the property is only partially enclosed. A small dinghy is available for hire.

All the extra comforts of home, DStv, books and well-appointed kitchen. Could not have wanted more.
The location of the cottage was exactly what we needed.
The house is spacious, light and airy. The balcony has a beautiful direct view to the river and taking the dingy out is a must-do. Would recommend taking your own tea, coffee, oil, etc. The mosquitos are also quite vicious so take some mozzie spray and a big torch if you’re going to braai in the evening. The river is quite shallow with lots of plant life growing under the water so it isn’t ideal for swimming but going out on the little boat for sundowners was amazing.
There were puzzles to solve, a whole bookshelf of books to read, the lovely porch to sit on and enjoy the lapping of the water with the birds. There are bedside lamps next to the beds and all channels when you want to watch TV and it's close to the town but on the side. We will definitely go again to ride the boat!
Beautiful resting spot by the water.
Some minor upkeep on the paving surrounds and a handrail for the older folks on the steps to the lovely grass verge on the river bank would be a great improvement. All documentation and the advice with regards to the stay cottage were all very well handled. Comfortable accommodation and everything worked well. Thanks to Shady Creek for a great week.
Great place and good value for money.
The area is picture perfect, some of the best wine in the country. The boat ride on the river was great.
What an awesome and spacious cottage to spend time away from home. It has a lovely entertainment area and well kitted kitchen. The bedrooms (2) were also spacious and were both en-suite. The outdoor space was truly amazing. The views of the river are sublime. The area has loads of birds and the gardens are beautifully kept. There are two braai areas. One near the house and the other closer to the river. The only negative point was the the cottage is on the main road and the sound of the traffic was a bit distracting (mostly from trucks). The access was also a bit tough for our minivan, but we managed to get in and out every time. Parking was sufficient and secure. All in all a super weekend away.
Workers were busy in the servitude until late, which made it difficult for us to sit outside and enjoy our drinks. On Saturday night there was no water in the hot taps but by Sunday morning it was there! My only advice is to place better quality towels. The towels were thin and there is nothing better to spoil a guest by a wonderfully fluffy towel.
It was a lovely peaceful and comfortable stay. The cottage is very fully equipped. My kids really enjoyed the Jenga! A few comments: The view from the stoep is no longer as in the photos. The trees and bushes have almost overgrown the view of the river. The jetty is smaller than we thought and you can't fish there. The reeds around the jetty don't make it possible anyway. It would be very nice if it was developed a little further. The boat cannot be used because it is heavy and has to be carried downhill and lowered into the river from the jetty. We weren't sure if we would get it back up the bank, so preferred not to use it. In any case, we had a very nice stay.
The cottage has all the beauty but unfortunately the small things like coffee, sugar, tea were not available and with the road works one would have expected a couple of bags of wood to be available. The shower in the main bedroom was also not working. The impression got was that the cottage was not checked before we arrived to ensure everything was available and working.
Roadworks were taking place within 50 meters of the front door. We were subjected to 2 days of constant "tok tok tok tok" of the hydraulic breakers, from seven in the morning until five in the evening. Entry and exit into the main road was also difficult and dangerous due to the construction work. We realize that this is not the owners fault but we feel that we should have been informed of the roadworks and possible disturbance. A most unpleasant stay.
Shady Creek Cottage offers a wonderful weekend getaway where you become aware of the nature around you and enjoy the silence and tranquility
