The self-catering cottage has 2 bedrooms and 1 full bathroom. There is an open-plan kitchen nook, a dining table, a lounge area, an indoor fireplace with a renovated coal stove and outdoor braai facilities. The first bedroom has a queen-size bed and the second bedroom has two single beds. An additional single bed can be added on request, to accommodate families. The bathroom is newly completed and equipped with a bath, shower and beautiful view.
There is limited cell phone signal, and the farm uses solar power as well as wind turbines for water and electricity. Access is via 500 m of the reasonable farm road, most cars like sedans manage fine.
Guests are welcome to take a hike up our 3.5 km hiking route into the back of the dome and climb up into the koppies or to access the stream at the bottom of the property for a picnic or stroll. On arrangement, guests can collect their own free range eggs for breakfast or take home.

Rest for the soul. The cottage has so much more than advertised. Makes you feel at home. The view, clean air and farm life make one calm. For sure you will see us again soon. We miss our "pet Chicken".
It was great. The place is very well furnished with beautiful views.
Absolutely stunning location! Excellent tranquil space for unwinding without actually being too far from civilization. The cottage was wonderful. Love the free range eggs provided from the friendly chickens on the property. The caretaker was super nice, as was the owner. A lovely hiking trail too.
We had a wonderful 3 nights. Very neat and clean as well as well equipped with all you might need. The trail was very nice, challenging at times for the unfit but worth the effort.

We rested well. The farm is quiet and peaceful, located in a very beautiful environment between the hills of the Vredefort dome. Warrin the host was very friendly and welcoming. All the facilities were very neat and clean. The farmhouse has everything you need with a little extra, from excellent coffee to delicious sweet honey, 6 fresh farm eggs and nice dry wood with fire lighters. Warrin thought of everything to make the stay as comfortable as possible. We ventured on the hiking trail between the hills and got very nice views. If you don't have time for a walk, there is also a very nice view from the braai area at the farmhouse. We would go back again anytime, it's ideal for a relaxing break in nature.
My boyfriend and I were looking for a quiet place to get away and Shallow Pig was perfect, had everything we needed and the host, Warrin, is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. We definitely recommend.
Was a short visit but will definitely go again and stay longer. Perfect for a weekend away from it all.
I would highly recommend Shallow Pig to someone who wants to do nothing and rest. I don't think this is a place for children.
Shallow Pig is a peaceful and quiet place. So it's an excellent place to go if you want to get away from the city noise. I recommend it to any one.
It's a very neat place against the wooded hills. It is definitely exceptional value for money, especially if you want to explore the dome from there.
Wonderfully peaceful, except for the rooster at 4:00 in the morning, but that's part of farm life. Place looks exactly like the photo - no surprises. Excellently equipped.
Lovely location. Very accommodating. Travelled alone with medium size dog. Lovely safe hiking trail, that is well marked. Simple but easy living.
