It's exceptional if the hosts receive you outside by the car. We booked as two couples for one night to explore the area around Waterval-Boven. Shamrock Arms Lodge was ideal, especially also because Sue and Belinda put on a wonderful dinner, despite load shedding from 7pm to 9pm, and also a lovely breakfast the next morning. They made an effort to make us feel at home, as did the owner Terry, with whom we hung out on the porch until late. We will visit here again.

Terry and Martin were just too amazing. They shared the village's history as if they were part of the 1900s. Awesome place to stay and nothing is too much trouble.
Martin's food was very tasty and beautiful. If the history of the area interests you, it's just the place and people.
The owners as were always on their post. The food was delicious and comparable to the best. We were very well received and communicated with.

Once again we really enjoyed our visit to Jaco and the guest house. Jaco has the ability to quickly make you feel at home, he is also very friendly and helpful. We arrived in pouring rain and it was not too much for him to welcome us outside and take us to our room in the rain. Can definitely recommend it, it's value for money. Would stay there again anytime.

More a convenient stop-over than a place for a long stay. Clean and comfortable rooms with all expected amenities. Generous and tasty food and a cosy and warm bar/lounge.
\We spent one night on a trip through the Lowveld. Jaco gave a lot of individual attention and made us feel very special It was my birthday and he put extra flowers on the table that morning, at breakfast, with a beautiful card, chocolates and rose petals! It couldn't be more special! The cooking skills were also top notch and Jaco makes a wonderful omelette. It was indeed a delightful experience to spend the night there.
Jaco is an asset to any organization and his food is exceptional! We really enjoyed our stay.

Jaco and Terry are both very friendly and the room we stayed in was very nice and big with all the DStv channels available. The food was very tasty and Jaco knows what he is doing in the kitchen. There isn't much to do in Waterval Boven, but it's a good, central town close enough to activities. Would perhaps suggest that breakfast should be included for the price per night!
It was fun and although very rainy, there was never a shortage of company. Jaco certainly knows all about the history of the place, and his potato soup was top notch.
I would recommend the guest house any day. It's value for money. The friendliest people with the best hospitality! Their meals are top notch.
Always such a pleasure to stop over at Waterval Boven. Even more so at Shamrock! Terry, Cheryl and Jaco, thank you for a great welcome - like seeing old friends again! Being past the hiking and abseiling age, the get together at the pub prior to a lovely braai, fitted perfectly. A comfy room and comfy beds awaited us (great pillows, Jaco!). Can't wait for our next trip as we know where we will be staying. Gail and Lynn.

Nice stay! We found the photos and knowledgeable owner interesting. The guest house is on a busy and noisy street, but if you are used to traffic at night, this is no problem. It's nice not to see high fences. Unfortunately, like everywhere in SA, we have the crime problem and the countryside also runs through. Parking is not very secure and later heard of break-ins at guesthouses outside the town. Would try to upgrade security. Very nice people and comfortable place to stay. Good directions and easy to find. Neat and clean with everything you need, plus extra attention for special occasions, such as birthdays. The general impression was very good. We stayed and ate well the two nights. Thank you very much!
