Excellent overnight stay, quiet and comfortable.
We arrived on a very cold day and the host welcomed us kindly and there was already a heater burning inside the cottage. The house was very neat and clean and everything you can think of was there to use with the small detail like shampoo in the shower. We could freely walk around the farm. It is a working sheep farm and we were there in the middle of the lambing season.
We arrived later than planned and were warmly welcomed. The cooked meal was delicious. Very comfortable accommodation.

We had a wonderful stay. The units were spotless and tidy. There was a generator on during load shedding and extras like cookies for the children.
We arrived early but this was no problem to the host, and my travelling companion wanted her own room, this too was no problem to our hostess. Though in the end we just occupied one unit, which did in fact provide us with 2 separate rooms to sleep in. This farm was classically South African, providing many photo opportunities for me to send home to the UK. The accommodation was all we needed and more, set in beautiful gardens with gorgeous purple roses round the door and a bowl of roses on the table. The kitchen was well appointed with everything we needed or could want, rusks and delicious biscuits in jars as well, to cap the pleasure of our experience. The host gave us a delicious supper, and we had an excellent night's rest before heading out the next morning to our next destination.

Our host was very helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. The room was comfortable and offered everything that we required. We had a nice braai in the stunning garden. It is definitely an overnight stop that we will use again. We also stopped in at the butcher in Steynsburg, which was a good bit of local knowledge!

We enjoyed our stop over at Shanks Farmstay. We were travelling to Great Brak from Durban, and it was a great place to stop. We enjoyed some delicious lamb and koeksisters for dinner. The continental breakfast (rusks, cereal, yoghurt, filter coffee, and juice) was very helpful as we didn't want to drive to find supplies in the town.

I'd like to go back for a longer visit than my quick overnight stop between CPT and PMB.
We were on a 1470 km bicycle tour from Witbank to Mossel Bay and the rest at Shanks was the highlight. We were warmly welcomed and all the facilities were excellent. Morene took care of us and even helped wash our cycling clothes, it is truly appreciated. Lovely farm dinner and breakfast spoiled us a lot.
We were accommodated with all our requests and nothing was any problem for our hosts. The cottage was perfect with TV, aircon and lovely extras (fresh buns, milk and tea and coffee). Highly recommended for family as well.

Our hostess was very accommodating and went out of her way to assist us with fridge and freezer space for the contents of our 2 cooler boxes. We were informed that the table top oven/hotplates appliance had recently burned out and was soon to be replaced, so cooking was restricted to the microwave. Accommodation is fine for an overnight family stay.
The farm is well situated and easy to get to. Maureen is very welcoming and contacted us beforehand. The infrastructure does not really cater for easy self-catering. One of the dogs howled on and off through the night. I did not have a restful nights sleep. It was not what I expected. I did try to call Maureen about the dog but the call went straight to voicemail.

We had a great stay at Shanksfarm. It was neat, enough provision for heat if it is cold at night and even extra effort to provide us with breakfast even though we had already started driving the day before. Would definitely recommend!

There is a peaceful atmosphere for people who want to rest after a whole day on the road. The dinner and breakfast were particularly delicious. The hostess was very friendly. There was enough hot water and bedding for the cold outside. The room was comfortable and clean. Only complaint is that the towels are very small for the cold winter after a hot shower.
